1.
I'm not doubting the evidence Alex, what I'm saying is that because this was not a solely police conducted operation, there is a chance a skilled enough lawyer could argue that his client the pervert would be unable to get a fair trial because of non-judicial interference, leading to a potential mistrial. I'm not rooting for the perp, just saying it'd be better this was not a media driven thing.
Ah, I gotcha. However, I don't think that the presence of a camera and interviewer at the bust would jeopardize a trial. The evidence wasn't aquired under pressure from the camera -- all that would be prior to the bust. Any confession they make wouldn't be able to be used, sure, but that doesn't mean there'll be a mistrial. Besides, it makes great TV.
  2.
No matter how much we need smart censorship, it's not plausible. Eventually, those in charge of the censoring will start making decisions with selfish, human motives, and that can't be helped. So no censorship at all has to suffice, unfortunately, and solve what problems it can.
That's not entirely true. We have censorship right now. ****, there it is. That's what the FCC is, when you think about it. They exist so that radio stations don't all turn into Howard Stern without the funny. So far, things have been working out relatively well. I don't think it's quite all or nothing; there's certainly some middle ground, and that has benefits that should be considered. That is, unless you were talking more about Big Brother dictating things rather than our current system.
  3.
Everyone who's saying they deserve to be caught on national television should just get over themselves. It's people like you who make cases like Terri Schiavo get plastered all over the media, resulting in idiotic back-and-forths and wasted time in Congress. If you're that freakin' concerned about it, do something about it yourself. Jesus.
Oh, c'mon. It's all in good fun! The utter shock and bewilderment on their faces when they don't find a young girl to rape, only national humiliation and then arrest. Hilarious. And Gavin, I highly doubt that these guys would be acquitted with all the incriminating evidence stacked against them. Chat logs (and I'm assuming tracing their screen name to their computer), them coming to "meet up" with these girls, etc. I vaguely remember seeing female cops pose as prostitutes, and when guys asked to have sex with them, she said "Alright, meet me behind that building." Behind that building, they were arrested. I'm not sure if they were found guilty, but I'm assuming they were, even though they didn't technically do anything wrong. *shrug*
  4.
My, my. I can't choose between my favorites: Gmv, both of you.[/SIZE']
Why'd you bother with such a long post if you're not going to vote? lol. Boo: There's alot I like about this, first and foremost the background. The colors and shapes that are present are pretty amazing. I wish the design was a bit more behind Gaara so that it looked as if it was is aura; as it is, it's sort of awkward/random. I initially didn't like the white outline, but it's grown on me a bit. However, I think there's a better way to distinguish him from the background (maybe moving the colors behind him was the way). Anyway, the thing I don't like at all is the character just hanging out in the middle of things, on the top, disturbing the simple and interesting composition. It strikes me as an afterthought, and I really can't stand it. Ezekiel: Simply amazing job, Jay. The background is perfect and fits Gaara well, as is the top text (both font and placement). However, it bugs me a bit that Gaara's extraction is poor and evidently so. It also seems you couldn't make your mind up about the glow/stroke around Gaara (near his leg is thin, while near his head is thick). The text at the bottom is well positioned and a great font. However, the red really kills it and literally destroys the "k" in "darkness". In the end, very close batter. I vote for Ezekiel. Great job both you.
  5. Hm. Aaryanna: I think your background could've been smoother/less grainy. As it stands, it looks like random shapes. Your text is the same color as your background, and I don't like the grainy outline they have either. However, I do like the font and position of "Uzumaki Naruto", and the font of "Believe it!". Overall, I think clarity and more effective text could've dont alot for this. Kitty I like your background, but your text is rather awkward. It leads you to the bottom right corner, yet Naruto's in the middle-right. The text bubble for Naruto is a bit awkward as well, but a nice touch. I think what I like most about this is that it's easy to make things out, even if its composition is confusing. I vote for Kitty.
  6. Do you mean you want to know how to make a 1 pixel border around something in Photoshop? Your question is confusing.
  7. Whoa, it's been quite a while, Drix. In any event, I felt this was more a request for help for your cause rather than art discussion and critique, so I moved it here.
  8.
For most small blogs you're looking at $10 a week tops. And that's a blog plastered in ads. Also, if you get into blogging for the money you're doing it for the wrong reasons, and readers can tell, so I'd consider it carefully.[/color']
I'm actually in the middle of building my site, and I was going to blog anyway. I just wanted to know if it was something I would add banners to my site over.
  9. Hm. So how much do you make on average for one blog site/community? That, and do you get money through page hits or ad clicks? I understand that the payment would rely on you advertising your site, and I don't mean to pry, I'm just seeing if it's something worth looking into seriously. Thanks.
  10.
Blogging just really keeps your out-of-pocket expenses in check.
That sounds pretty interesting... how does that work? I remember hearing something about blogging for money, but I didn't really pay much attention to it.
  11.
Sure, it deters crime. You're less likely to kill someone if you yourself are going to get killed for it. If I really loathed someone and was going to kill them even though I'd get caught, I'd be more likely to do so if all I got was jailtime.
Your statement is a logically sound one, however...
The murder rate in the U.S. in 1992 was 9.3 murders per 100,000 population. 16 States had a murder rate higher than the national average. Of those 16 all but one, the sixteenth, was a death penalty State. (Uniform Crime Reports, Oct. 3, 1993. U.S. Department of Justice, F.B.I.)
While this is more than a decade ago, I can't imagine a substantial change in the basic concept. The death penalty has changed little, just as crime has changed little over that period of time.
And how can it cost less to give someone a shot than to jail, feed, and clothe them for life? That.. Doesn't even make the slightest bit of sense, but if you'd like to prove me wrong go right ahead.
I didn't really believe it either. I'm still looking for a more veritable source, but for now... (Well, this is a decent source.)
Full article here. Mr. Jackson, my judgment in this matter must be dictated by higher ideals. One could argue that the cost of keeping you in prison for life would actually be less than that of executing you. No doubt, it will cost a great deal of taxpayer money to reject your appeal of this sentence. But the proud and noble state of Texas has never listened to the bookkeepers and accountants when the decision to kill a man must be made.
True, it's some old guy from Texas, but he's also a judge. Take his word for what you will.
It doesn't make it a tool of revenge whatsoever, anyway. Do you think the judge is thinking 'I just hate this guy, let's give him the death penalty to suit my whim' when he sentances? No, he's thinking 'This man/woman deserves to be punished to the extent of the law for his crimes, and he should never be allowed the chance to commit them again'.
With those in mind, I can't really see any other reason for capital punishment aside from killing them just to do it (i.e.: satisfaction, closure, revenge, etc). When there are more effective ways of delivering justice, what's the reasoning for still killing a criminal?
We all know that the US has more crime than nearly any other country, bringing that up doesn't help your argument. It probably means that we should make better use of the death penalty, if you ask me.
If we already use the death penalty, but we still have a comparatively high crime rate, isn't that indicative that something's not working? Perhaps we should take a page out of their books and do what they're doing; if those aforementioned countries have lower crime rates, shouldn't we be trying to emulate what they've done?
I know how I must sound, but I think there's just no help for anyone who would rape/torture/murder another human being. This speaking from a severely neutral standpoint with absolutely no thoughts of revenge/bloodlust/satisfaction, I think that people who commit crimes that severe don't have the right to continue life on this planet, and should likely all be shot.
I used to think like you did, it's not like it makes you sound ignorant. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, especially when there's no cut and dry answer.
  12. ...Wow. I?ll try to be brief and to the point. The death penalty is not a deterrent. The death penalty is not used in most of (if not all of?) the European Union (and Canada), yet the EU/Canada does not have a great deal of crime compared to the US. Therefore, what is the point of the death penalty? Considering it does not deter crime, it costs more than jailing someone for life, and only takes another life, what is the point? With those points in mind, the death penalty does nothing but kill the murderer for the sake of killing the murderer. Yes it is technically the law, but does that change the fact that the only incentive to seeking the death penalty is to kill the criminal? Does that not make it a tool of pointless revenge and nothing more? Call it what you will ? satisfaction, revenge, closure; it does not matter. There is no rational reason for the death penalty to exist in this day and age.
  13.
I really like your sigs. Very colorful, yet simple. Great job.[/FONT']
I'm almost certain you know what the rules are around here. Offer critique or meaningful praise instead of "Great job". Why is this "great"? Be specific. Thanks.
  14.
If I truly wanted revenge and wanted them to suffer I would want them to be in jail forever knowing that they could never be free or I would desire that they suffer great pain before dying. It?s not the same thing at all. If such a decision was allowed to happen solely due to anger and a desire for revenge, we would see it a lot more than we do. The death penalty is something that is only for severe crimes and even what happened at the school is unlikely to even be considered for such a sentence. The person who makes this choice of giving a death sentence is not the family or person who lost the loved one. Even if they wished it they are not the one?s allowed to make such a decision. This is done to keep decisions from being made based on a desire for revenge.
That's completely wrong. If someone were to kill someone's family and rape that person's mother before doing so, they would be elligible for the death penalty. That family does have the ability to tell their lawyer to seek the death penalty as their sentence. Of course the judge does have the power to make whatever judgement he/she sees fit, the plaintiff still can ask for whatever sentence they wish.
So how is it revenge when the due process of the justice system decides a person?s crimes are severe enough to warrant the death penalty? You make it sound like the average person can simply demand such a sentence when in fact the law prevents it from happening unless the crime is considered severe enough, and even then that?s no guarantee that the person will get such a sentence.
It's revenge in that you're killing that person because of what they did. It's apparent the death penalty has zero benefit when nearly all of Europe, Canada, and even Mexico have abandoned it without ill consequence. Therefore, the exercise of killing them must be done just to do it, under the guise of "justice" and "the law." I have to go, but I'll be back later. :)
  15.
There is a very fine line between wanting someone to suffer because of their crimes and dealing justice for the crime. In one you want him to suffer since others have suffered pain due to their actions. The other, you are dealing out punishment not revenge. Law is required to avoid chaos. The death penalty is something that is usually decided after a trial and after much deliberation, it is not a spur of the moment deal nor a ?I want them to die a horrible, painful death.? sort of deal.
When people want the death penalty, they usually want that murderer to suffer. In any event, the death penalty is oftentimes both justice and revenge. It's technical courtroom "justice," and at the same time usually sought out of desire for revenge. It is sought after much deliberation, but that doesn't mean the decision isn't borne out of anger and desire for revenge.
If you are to follow the logic you are presenting then following up on any crime is pointless as the deed in question is over with. In this case it means people are dead and others are hurt. If he had survived would we have let him go? No, he would be in jail and the legal process of prosecuting him would have begun.
My argument stands if you think about it from the perspective of death penalty for revenge. If the death penalty is sought out of revenge, that is wrong. It is pointless from that perspective to kill a murderer just because your loved one is dead.
You have misunderstood me if you think my supporting the Death Penalty is some sort of bloodlust on my part. You have also misunderstood me if you think I disapprove of you or anyone else for wanting him to suffer. My point was that on a personal level I think it is wrong to deliberately inflict pain just for the sheer purpose of causing pain. It would be more accurate to say that I find such an attitude sad. I have lost loved ones in my life so I know how hard it is to lose someone you care for, especially when the foolish actions of another person is to blame.
Pardon me when you said
So even if there isn?t a Hell and such I still support dealing with them and that includes the Death penalty.
Bloodlust may have been strong, but from the above quote, I gathered that you were for the death penalty as a means of vengeance. I don't think I made any huge leap of logic there.
Perhaps the best way to describe my attitude would be I support the law when it comes to dealing with crimes and if the process leads to the people deciding on a Death Penalty sentence, then I support that decision. In all honesty I wish we didn?t need laws, but events like what happened at the school make them necessary. Part of why I support it is I have lived long enough to see that there are some who no matter what you do or how you try to help them, they insist on hurting others and breaking the law.
You have to understand how contradictory your points of view are. On the one hand, you are fervently opposed to wishing a murderer the worst, yet on the other hand, you firmly support the law and whatever comes with it. Please understand that the death penalty is most often a tool of revenge under the guise of a necessary tool, without which society crumbles. That being said, the death penalty exists only to kill murderers; and you support that. But you said...
I?m sure that there are those who will disagree with this, but wishing pain and death on others and wanting revenge is wrong.
Tell me what the death penalty is aside from "the law". I personally think it's just a wish of pain and death upon a criminal.
The prisons are more overcrowded every day and it is so expensive to keep them working that there is honestly little space. If we didnt have the death penalty then im not sure what we would do.
I suppose you didn't know that it costs the state more to execute a criminal than to give them a life sentence? That, and criminals are rarely executed, so this excuse of "it clears up space" is moot as well. The last person who was executed in my area died almost nine months ago. Before that, I think it had been several years.
And i don't get where Retribution got the idea of Aaryanna_Mom having bloodlust, she never said anything about it. Blood lust usually means a hunger for it i think, simply just for the satisfaction. She would get no satisfaction out of it.
But she still supports that institution, no matter what she feels. It does not change the fact that the death penalty exists as a means of vengeance. And it certainly does not mean it is necessary. Most of Europe has done away with it (as well as the right to bear arms, but that's another debate) and they're doing fine. Of course she feels satisfied with the death penalty. If she were not satisfied, she would not support it.
  16.
So even if there isn?t a Hell and such I still support dealing with them and that includes the Death penalty. In some respects I do feel that we are too kind when people who do what they did are simply put in jail and then later released. Crimes like that deserve a more severe punishment to keep it from happening again.
You support the death penality, yet you disapprove of us wanting him to suffer? Aren't both an exercise of vengeance? The victims are already dead, what good will it do to kill Kimveer as well, save satisfying our desire to see him meet the same fate? It seems to me you can't tell us that wishing for another's suffering is wrong, but turn around and support killing him when the only thing it does is satisfy your bloodlust.
  17. Spamming your merchandise only earns you a ban. I'm assuming you only joined to advertise; you'd know that's against the rules had you read them here. And you may want to refine your skills before you start offering to sell it. ;) Thread closed.
  18.
You don?t do to a mad rabid dog what it did to you. You kill it with a clean quick shot and put it out of it?s misery or you risk catching the very disease you just got rid of. The type of person who does this sort of thing is sick. Which is why we have laws to deal justice to such people.
I dunno, I think there's some merit to chaining it to a tree and letting it sit there if that dog hurt/killed someone you care about. But onto a more pertinent point...
So though I am glad he is gone as he will no longer be able to hurt anyone, I do not wish that his death was painful. I am a Christian and based on my beliefs, God will take care of the rest.
This concept never really made sense to me. We're not allowed to want this person to suffer however temporarily, but God's allowed to damn them to Hell, where they're doomed to burn in a lake of flame for eternity. I think it's a comparatively small and meek request to want this guy to reap what he sowed for a few minutes when their destination would be eternal suffering. I wish he just commited suicide and removed his sorry genes from the human pool instead of taking others with him. People, if you hate the world, just kill yourself and die quietly.

    TMNT (2007)

I was a fanatical follower of TMNT back in the 90s. However I, like many others, have grown up quite a bit, and that zealous fanbase is no more. TMNT's fanbase has degraded to apathetic children who casually watch it on Saturday mornings, and change channels halfway through to catch the rest of the 9th version of Pokemon. I think it'll have alot of people going to see it out of nostalgia (myself included), which is where I expect to see most of the films money being made.
  20. What do you render your backgrounds in? Cinema 4D? They look pretty good for the most part. I think I saw these on your dA a week back. Anyway, one thing that you could improve on would be making the stocks stick out more, but blending them as well. As it is now, most of your sigs have a stock standing apart from the action (Although you do a good job here and here). I enjoy the colors you use, and you have a great grasp of composition, but I'd like to see what you can do without the displacement filter.
  21. Oftentimes, when I recieve a fair sum of money, I go to mall and 'window shop.' But this is a depressing and self-defeating practice, as I quickly realize that the money I just got is never enough for what I want. So in short, bringing money with me ends up being more a curse than anything. I feel frustrated and annoyed, thinking "If only I had ten dollars more..." But it's even more frustrating when you're strolling along and you see something you covet. For me, it's a MacBook, and I die everytime I pass the Apple Store at my mall. I get this gripping feeling of jealousy, envy, and in the end, frustration that I don't have enough for one. In conclusion, window shopping brings only pain.
  22. Good luck to you, Katana. I need to post this now because I don't think I'll be able to get it up any later.
  23.
Well taking into account everything that has happened, is it possible that your sister still has the receipt for the whale she gave you? You could take that and go to the girl?s parents and explain what happened. If they don?t believe you show them the receipt and ask them to get their daughter to show them her receipt for buying it. It?s a given that she won?t have one.
That's easily countered by just saying "I threw it away already... why would I keep it?" And logically, that makes sense; when's the last time you kept a receipt from your last purchase under $20?
  24. I'm glad you read enough of the rules to know that blatant advertising is prohibited. If you wish, you may put a link in both your signature and public profile. In any event, I'm moving this thread to the Art by Request, as your thread is more suited to there.
  25.
...she's out. Now there's a complete stranger hunting me across campus...again. No one knows who it is, except the girl who persued me and the other guy. I think i'll ask her who it is. Now is when the vigilance thing really comes in handy.[/COLOR']
That's a gamble. On one hand, she could tip you off and give someone to watch out for. On the other hand, she could intentionally decieve you and you'd be watching for the wrong person, leaving you relatively exposed and unaware of when you're about to be killed.
