Now, BlueEyedAngel, it sounds kind of like you respect the rights of members of other races, but generally care for your own. I can't hold it against you. For fun, I think i'll side with you. You do seem to be overwhelmed and then some by the posts. The only person otherwise siding with you is John. Now that I see where you're coming from, let's give this a shot. Affirmative action=bull****. If all races are truly equal, than why put all of them in front of one. If white people truly aren't the majority, then why act as though they are? Its discrimination against white people. Someone, please argue pro-affirmative action. Please, argue that discriminating is good.
"You do not wipe away the scars of centuries by saying: 'now you are free to go where you want, do as you desire, and choose the leaders you please.' You do not take a man who for years has been hobbled by chains, liberate him, bring him to the starting line of a race, saying, 'you are free to complete with all the others,' and still justly believe you have been completely fair. This is the next and more profound stage of the battle for civil rights. We seek not just freedom but opportunity - not just legal equity but human ability - not just equality as a right and a theory, but equality as a fact and as a result." - President Johnson (interestingly enough...)
Just for your information, but a whole lot of painters let their students help them paint. Anyway, this wouldn't have much to do with this topic anyway. The point right now is that you use someone else's brush to make something cool. They don't actually do something themselves. But Van Gogh didn't really make all of his own brushes, now did he?

Welcome to OtakuBoards, [[new~new]]. Panda already told you about your post quality, however you should also read the Art by Request Rules as well. Your post is incredibly vague and unhelpful to those who would like to make a banner for you. Please be more specific in your threads, read the rules before posting, and post with quality. I think it'd better if we just started from scratch. Thank you for your cooperation and patience. Thread closed.

For your two "Fly Me Away" pieces, I have two recommendations. [1] I'd recommend toning down the contrast on these two pieces. I understand that high-contrast images are the cool thing nowdays, but it's so high that the colors are washing out and bleeding all over the place. That, and the amount of white in the sky (near the bottom) is a bit overwhelming. [2] Because the contrast is up so might, your text is sort of blending into the background and fading away. Also, consider a font and/or position that works more with the powerlines. As it is now, they're sort of dividing things up there. Keep working at it!

Thanks for all the love. :3 Here's a piece I did today. What's it missing? It feels like it needs another color in there, but I'm not sure how to do that. Comments are welcome! Note: Entrada is spanish, but "aolo" is just a fake word I made up.
You're right, that was not the perfect analogy. By far. They just use an already existing tool to create the leaf.
Just as one would use an already existing tool (pre-made brush) to design a component of the piece (the tree as a whole)? Sounds pretty similar.
Now, you might be right about people being just lazy, but like I already said: they could also just like the brush, or think it fits what they want to create.
And they either lack the ability or they don't want to put the ability forth to make that effect. This is why I have such disdain for pre-made brushes. Many times it's an excuse, a quick fix of sorts.
If you let just a random person go nuts with brushes on Photoshop, I?m pretty sure their pieces won?t be as loved as yours were. If the end result looked like something you liked (and very importantly: a lot of others liked), you did something right and you obviously have skill.
Do you understand that most people who use pre-made brushes to excess are loved? Something I've noticed through the years is that whenever someone posts a flashy piece with all sorts of interesting effects, they go "Oooh!" Sure, if you let a random person go nuts it'll look bad, but if they have even a slight bit of skill it won't. It doesn't take a genius to toss brushing down on a few layers, color balance it all and toss on a stock. Oh, here's something where I went crazy with the brushing and it was absolutely loved. It's painfully apparent this piece lacks skill.
Just a personal opinion, but I prefer the pre-made one, over the latter.
You missed my point.
Tell me. Have you ever took the time to not just download a pack of fonts and use them because they looked awesome? Apart from pixel text, I, for one, have never made my own fonts. There are a lot of great fonts on the web to use, and I don?t blame you for using them. The same counts for brushes.
I would argue there's a distinct difference between downloading and using a font and using brushes that end up becoming a huge part of the piece. Most of the time, the font is secondary, and all else is before it. That, and the degree of difficulty between creating your own brush and your own font is enormous. I can label you lazy for using a pre-made brush, but I cannot do that for fonts. Creating a font requires special programs, extensive training, and expertise.

If you want to look like you can do fancy effects, but you don't feel like putting in the time or effort to learn how to do those fancy effects, pre-made brushing is for you. I personally see it as a lazy cop-out to use them. Sort of like using stencils of leaves when you're drawing a picture of a tree... not a perfect analogy, but it's getting there. I have great respect for those who throw away the brushes and do their own work. I must admit, I had stretches where I just made pre-made brushed piece, and everyone loved them. They took five minutes to make (literally), but they were loved. Those took no skill at all, and I'm extremely ashamed of those. I began using pre-made brushes after about three months into learning Photoshop. I was frustrated; I wanted to do what all those cooler artists were doing, but I didn't want to wait months, possibly years more before I could do that. Pre-made brushing was that quick-fix solution. Granted, I was doing alright, reading tutorials and slowly learning to make my own brushes, but it just wasn't nearly as quick or easy. That's one of my own brushes, done with the help of a tutorial when I was first learning. It took about half an hour to get all those specific values to look good. Now, someone could distill all that work into about two seconds, click click, and they've now done what I did. Below is one of my pre-made brushed pieces. In the end, your work ends up not only more versatile because you can easily create your own brushes, but it's a better reflection of your skill. With hard work and dedication, you can achieve the same, and often better effects than pre-made brushes offer. See below for an example. In conclusion, I have much respect for those who persevere the tough times and keep working at it. The tempting thing to do is to just download that brush pack and start doing those awesome effects, but if you have the dedication to not do that, just know that I think highly of you.

Request Graphic Design Request For Retribution

Let's talk about sex (Mature please)
Retribution replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
So hopefully my wife knows what it means to "Get your tubes tied,." Only one kid for me. Otherwise no sex afterwords. Not getting a visectamy. No way are my boys going to get killed. So to speak.
So you're not willing to get a vasectomy, but you expect your wife to tie her tubes? That's a lame double standard. How about you just use contraception so that neither one of you have to deal with all those procedures? -
Let's talk about sex (Mature please)
Retribution replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
@ the relevant people: Is American sex education genuinely so bad that you learned more from porn? Because we had it covered in cringeworthy detail at GCSE level - I think that's eleventh grade? - I say cringeworthy because I went to an all-male high school, with a female biology teacher. Up till that point I thought the verb to giggle[/i'] applied exclusively to the fairer sex...
Nah, I learned quite a bit from sex education. Perhaps its because I have five total years of it under my belt, but things were covered in great detail at the upper grades. Of course we didn't get into sexual stimulation, but rather the function of it and how everything worked. I suppose it varies from place to place, with the South [I'm assuming] being more vague and conservative and the North being more open and to the point about things. For example, my class had an unrestricted question and answer session (slang included). And like you, my class was all male with a [hot] female teacher. -

Alex had arrived extremely early, and had beat Security to the office. Upon arriving, he realized he was locked out and an hour early, but immediately opened his laptop and resumed work. Nearly finished with a project assigned a day ago and due in a week, he fervently typed, intent on finishing before everyone else had arrived. ?Are you gonna move or what?? He glanced up, and a tall Hispanic man loomed over him, jangling a set of keys, and looking rather intimidating. ?Oh, I?m sorry! One second?? he said quietly, shuffling out of his way, anxiously waiting for the doors to open. On the elevator up to his floor, his bodily needs began to overwhelm his mind. No longer would they be ignored. He barely remembered what he had eaten, much less if or when he had. Finally the doors opened, revealing the deserted and dark office, completely silent and undisturbed. The sight gave him a strange sense of comfort. He had finished his work, and set off to go meet the two new interns with a sense of overarching dread. The receptionist?s reaction wasn?t much more enthusiastic, either. ?Are you here to pick up the new interns?? ?Unfortunately, yes.? ?What did you do to deserve that?? Alex?s eyes widened in fear in response. ?Well, may god have mercy on your soul. Here they come.? Seconds later, two balls of hell burst into the door. He followed protocol, despite their fruitless search for ?bangin?? women. The tour came to a welcomed end as they returned to their office space, but Mike and Myers showed no signs of maturing. ?So Alex, how are the women here?? ?Your cubicle is right over there, if you need anything, I?d be more than willing to help.? The persistent intern would not be thwarted by his evasion, and asked the question again. ?C?mon man, you got a crush or something?? ?Yeah,? Myers chimed in, ?Anyone hot here?? ?Office romance is a big no. Go back to work,? he defensively swiveled back to his computer. Mike and Myers accepted his retreat, only because their interest turned to the photocopier. It was a while before anyone else arrived at the office, and if they did, they were preoccupied with eating or socializing. He hated when people made a mess of the office, eating cereal in cubicles, talking during work hours. Shoving his nose and thoughts back into the spreadsheet in front of him, he finished up the report and sent the memo to his boss. He stood up victorious, beaming at the water dispenser with pride. He had finished the project by himself, a week before hand. Not only that, but this opened himself and his team up to other more challenging tasks this week. Once his head came down from the clouds of success, he saw that almost everyone was at work, including his boss. He gloated internally as his boss sat down to his computer and opened his memo. In the meantime, he walked over to the water dispenser, desperate for some sort of sustenance. In route, he crossed paths with Quyen who was focused on a report of some sort or another. Perhaps it was insanity that made him speak up and talk, perhaps it was the sleep deprivation that was making his head spin, or perhaps it was that he was just dreaming. ?Hey, Quyen,? he started nervously. She walked past him before the greeting registered with her. ?Oh, hey Alex. I was just, well, what?s up?? He was halfway hoping she hadn?t heard him. His wish was thoroughly negated by her response, and further smothered by her eye contact. ?I just finished the report due next week,? he said, ?so we can focus on bigger things this week.? He finished the sentence confidently, glad that he had worked up the nerve to talk. She raised her eyebrow, and suppressed a laugh before speaking. ?Alex, that?s ridiculous. There?s a reason we were assigned a week to finish it.? ?Well, it?s only one night of sleep, no big deal,? he remarked. He despised how he sounded so passive, how he glanced around the room during the lulls in the conversation. ?I?ll get the next assignment from the boss then,? she said, slowly starting to walk away. ?But get some rest, you?re not a machine.?
You see, the ability to see the difference between "good" and "bad" are what make people human. Dogs, on the other hand, can only be trained and conditioned, giving them no choice in the matter. That key word, "choice," to me, is a deciding factor in the determination of whether or not Fido has a soul. You can have all the intellect you want, but it's worthless if you cannot make choices. Then again, one would have to be in my mind to see where I'm coming from. I simply do not have the ability to fully communicate my feelings through mere words.
You do understand that humans are "trained and conditioned" as well, right? They have as much choice to play dead when commanded to as we do when our parents ask us to do the dishes. Both are things instilled through "conditioning" (read: nuture). Humans are above dogs in the respect that we are sentient while other animals are not. The "mere words" bit is a pretty lame excuse. People can argue and communicate effectively through words; perhaps you're lacking vocabulary or something. Edit: Whoops. Sorry, sakurasuka for rehashing one of your points.
Let's see here - when it comes down to it, animals are no more than organic machines with their own individual niches in the ecosystem. Furthermore, the dog has been bred throughout the years to be 'domesticated' (another term for 'stupid') for its use as a 'companion' to the human, and, by doing so, warping its place in the ecosystem. And to the animal rights activists out there: Face it - animals do not have souls; they are not people. Animals are governed by nothing more than basic, primal instinct. If an animal appears to 'show emotion' then understand that emotions are simply responses triggered by neural synapses in the brain in accordance to the current stimuli level in a situation. Now, I apologize if I offended anyone, but this truly is a 'pet'-peeve of mine.
For your first point... that's why everyone is so heated about this. Because dogs have become our companions, we now see them as a lower-version of ourselves. Many dog owners see their dog as a part of the family, subordinate only to their children. Your second point is somewhat funny in the respect that you're arguing that intellect gives you a soul and a lack of it means you don't. I'm not sure if you were making that claim, but that's what it seemed like, and the claim is a rather presumptuous one. You didn't really offend me so much as remind me of how unsympathetic people can be. I mean, c'mon.
This picture is slightly disturbing to me. British Foiled Plot to blow up 10 Planes from UK to US
Retribution replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
The only thing I'd like to add is that these terrorists are resourceful as hell. True, their intent was malicious, but seriously... who thought of using perfume and food containers to blow the plane up that way? As a side note, it's disturbing to hear that British police are questioning "anyone with a beard." It's really too bad that in times of crisis, people forfeit civil liberties in the name of "public safety." -

I think that the "Prince of Nowhere" banner is your best. Not only does it have a clear focal point, the background works with the stock, and Vegeta's high contrast definitely enhances the picture. My only problem with it is that the background sort of seems to stop, leaving this gray space on the right. I absolutely love the effects on "bloodstain" ... how'd you do it? Brushing? As for the rest (God, I hate to lump in some of these with the others... this is a pretty strong group), the contrast is so high that the main focus of the banner is somewhat lost. I know this is your style, to up the contrast to the point where pixels start appearing (i.e. Prince of Nowhere), but try to separate the stocks from the backgrounds.
