When I was just beginning in Photoshop and looking for ways to improve, I posted on a friend's BBS. I got flamed out of there, interestingly enough, but I sought the guy's advice again since he was extremely good at graphic design. He told me "That looks absolutely horrible. Granted, it's better than most beginner's work, but it's really, really bad" (or something to that effect). These comments made me strive to do better, just so one day I could be better than him. About five months later, I beat him in a graphics battle. He's still a very harsh critiquer, and he can be pretty blunt. The moral of my little story is: use what they say to make you do better, even if it is completely negative. It's a game of determination. Had I been wishy-washy, I wouldn't've come this far.

FADE IN: We pan up on Dragon Warrior, a gruff and rugged pirate anchored in the City for a brief chat with Onyx. His attire is old and worn, suffering months of neglect at sea. His facial expression is equally tired. The pair sit within a wide, smoky room, neon providing a dim visibility. A harsh light is shining in his face, preventing him a clear look at Onyx, who sits on the other side of a table, addressing Dragon Warrior bluntly and without pretense. Onyx DW, you?re lookin? pretty damn tired, what?s the problem. Dragon Warrior I?ve been losing a lot of sleep over this shit for brains idea of yours. Onyx You?ll sleep like a baby once you get paid in full. (Onyx changes tone to from playful to serious) Onyx I?m not gonna lie to you. Both you and I know you?re one of the best RPers the Arena?s got. I know you like winning, but you like fast cars and groupies more, don?t you? Dragon Warrior Yeah, fair point. Waitas? Onyx See? There you go over thinking shit again. Just take the fall in The Bounty and you?ll be living like a king. I?ll see to it that you get yours and we?ll go our separate ways. Onyx slides a briefcase full of OtakuBucks across the table. Reluctantly, Dragon Warrior picks it up, not taking his eyes off Onyx. Onyx I?m no bullshitter, DW. But make damn sure that you don?t fuck it up. Don?t let that voice in the back of your head sway your good judgment. We?re men, not gals on our periods. Take the money and run. A month from now you?ll be thanking me. Dragon Warrior Alright. I have one more term, though. (Onyx raises his eyebrow.) Dragon Warrior Make me a moderator. (Onyx keeps eyebrow raised.) Dragon Warrior Don?t mess with me, Onyx. I know you?re a moderator and I know you can get James to hook me up. Onyx Take the money and run, DW. I can?t promise you anything aside from a broken face if you keep making demands like that. Dragon Warrior All or nothing. EXT. The Gentlemen?s Forum - DAY The Gentlemen?s Forum is large for a secret forum featuring live hentai. Its unkempt appearance reflects its lack of moderators. The Boss? search engine screeches into a nearly empty parking lot, narrowly avoiding one of the few cars parked. Retribution C?mon, you almost hit a parked car. Are you sober? (The Boss stares at Retribution, then shakes his head and starts to walk. Retribution follows.) The Boss knocks on the door. Several chips of paint fall off, and a slide opens revealing two eyes. Guard Password? Retribution Lemonlingerie Guard Invalid. Try again. Two attempts remaining. Retribution Do they change it regularly? Guard Invalid. Try again. One attempt remaining. Retribution Fine. EyeCandy. Guard Took you look enough. The door unlocks and swings open, revealing the fellow on the inside: The13thMan is a teenage Korean male, who has run several underground operations for Onyx, including The Gentlemen?s Forum. The13thMan Sup, Bossman! Come on in, bud. The Boss, carrying the black briefcase, strolls inside. The13thMan glances at Retribution, who waves him on. Retribution Don?t wait up for me. I wouldn?t be caught dead here. ?Gentlemen? my ass. The13thMan slams the door shut. INT. The Gentlemen?s Forum - DAY The forum is relatively quiet and inactive at this time of day. The clean interior is slightly startling after seeing the grungy exterior, but The Boss takes it in stride. The Boss So, where?s the man I?m looking for? The13thMan Just chill, he?ll be right with you. Dragon Warrior shakes hands with an intimidating Onyx. DW looks triumphant, while Onyx maintains a composed and reserved expression. The13thMan Stay here for a second, just wait for DW to leave. Anyway, I heard some interesting news the other day. The Boss And that would be?? The13thMan You?re taking Ezekiel out tomorrow. How?d that happen, and the more important question, are you going to live to tell the tale? The Boss It?s not like that, damnit. Onyx wants me to, and so I obliged. Why?s this so criminal? The13thMan Are you friends with Onyx? The Boss No, this is business. The13thMan Alright. Do you know Ezekiel? The Boss Vaguely. The13thMan just grins. The Boss (In a slight crescendo) You know what? I?m tired of all this bullshit I?m getting for doing this. Fuck you, fuck Retribution, fuck Adam for all I care. You dipshits acting like I can?t? The13thMan Calm down, calm down? Boss, we just like giving you a hard time, and I have a feeling Ezekiel will too. She?s a nice girl, just, well, she kills guys. You?ll be fine, though. The13thMan winks at him sarcastically, The Boss clamping his jaw in return. Dragon Warrior sits at the bar, spins around in the chair once, and looks at The13thMan. Dragon Warrior Could I have a scotch on the rocks? Hell, drinks all around courtesy of yours truly. The13thMan DW, there?s one other person here. The Boss I?ll pass. Dragon Warrior Right then. A scotch for me then. The Boss studies DW with a furrowed brow. Dragon Warrior Yes? The Boss Who the hell are you talking to, Cap?n Crunch? Dragon Warrior Excuse me? Dragon Warrior flashes the gun in his side holster, smiles, and returns to his drink. The13thMan None of that here, especially you, DW. After that last incident with the pole dancers last week? Dragon Warrior I thought I said no mention of that? There is a second of silence, followed by a sudden? Onyx Bossman, get the hell over here! The Boss is greeted warmly by Onyx, with handshakes and upbeat small talk. The13thMan Alright, DW, that?s your last round for the day. Get outta here. Dragon Warrior begrudgingly leaves his seat, glaring resentfully at The Boss before heading for the door.
This has probably come up already, but your art probably isn't that bad. I havn't seen it, so I can't back that up, but I'm sure it's true! Just keep at it. I began Karate when I was seven years old, and I continued until I was about eleven. I joined after watching Power Rangers and deciding "Hey, I wanna do that!" All in all, I got up to green belt, which isn't too far off from black in the discipline. I tried coming back when I was about thirteen. I went to all my little brother's sessions, and I got all nostalgic watching him, and begged my parents to re-enroll me. They did, and I stuck with it for about two months before realizing that I wanted to quit for good. I was very into Karate during my run. I went to my first tournament, where I placed seventh out of twenty, and I cried pretty hard because of it. I had won two spars but lost the third, and I had only done mediocre on my forms (kata) and so I was eliminated. I hope to pick up a less involving discipline than Karate in college, just as something to keep myself in shape with after hours of studying. But Karate will always hold a special place in my heart. Ah, the good ol' days.
Chabichou...you sicken me. You're even more vindictive than HAMAS and Hezbollah, and those are organizations who kill for the fun of it...who behead people on national television. They're the types of people who blow themselves up to try to prove some idiotic point. They're the people who tie bombs to their chest and detonate in public places. And after reading your reply here, I've come to the conclusion that HAMAS and Hezbollah are not the villains...YOU are the villain. Edit: I re-read what I said and think it sounded a bit harsher than I intended, and I normally would apologize, but in all honesty, I don't think you deserve any nice words at all. The Middle East has been wracked with violence for centuries now due to the exact same simple-minded, misguided, short-sighted, ill-advised, unwise, infantile, juvenile, blind parroting kind of tripe you're spewing here. You want the violence to end? Here's the solution. Shut your mouth.
Personal attacks aren't going to do anything here. Calling Chabi more vindictive than Hamas or Hezbollah is just ridiculous. Let's keep some semblance of civility in this thread. I was under the assumption that Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel with utter disregard to civilian life, and Israel launched a military incursion in response. I don't think that sounds outrageous or over the top here. Yes, Israel has taken civilian casualties, and I'm not trying to claim that they have clean hands here either, but it is nothing compared to Hezbollah's malevolence. Perhaps if Hezbollah didn't hide within the civilian population, fewer civilian casualties would've been taken. You should be angry at Hezbollah, not Israel. I absolutely despise how blind some people are over there. Even after Israel has given concessions, even after Israel has stated it only wants one soldier back, violence continues to brew. What do you want from Israel, short of completely dissolving? Israel gave back the Gaza Strip and the West Bank settlments, and still the fighting continues. And when Palestinian or Lebanese civilians are killed, guess who is mad, despite being the perpetuators of the violence? It's a childish battle being waged, and I don't think the Middle East will be in a hurry to mess with Israel after all of this is said and done.

Otaku Is A Child Predator's Heaven (PG Thread)
Retribution replied to Pagan's topic in General Discussion
I mean, what kind of child predator would pick an anime nerd to begin with?[/color']
What kind of person would be a child predator? I mean, no one is off-limits to those guys. In any event, I take a rather callous stance towards this. If you put up your personal information and offer to meet with someone you know over the internet, you get what you deserve. This isn't a new phenomina, you know exactly what will happen if you act like a naive fool. I suppose it's natural selection...? -

I hope I win something!! :)
We love you, Shin. ;)

I get 13 alot as far as physical age is concerned. But if we're talking strictly demeanor, I'd have to say about 16. I certainly act mature and responsible, but I also love acting up, having a good time, and enjoying cheap, immature thrills. I can also be an emotional downer (read: suppression), so I'll go with my current age. And is it just me, or do all girls between ages 14 to about 20 look approximately the same?

I would like to reiterate how awesome Brave New World is. Huxley pioneered sci-fi concepts such as cloning and social conditioning. It's definitely leagues better than 1984 (which is still a decent book). I'm also here to recommend Neuromancer. William Gibson is a genius, and if you enjoyed The Matrix [movie], well, the concept of a 'matrix' was stolen directly from this book. The Wachowski Bros. have no shame at all for ripping such a brilliant work.

This is a pretty good idea, but if this is to stay, open posting quality needs to be stepped up a bit. A brief explanation of your picture/style (see Ezekiel's post for a good example), and a bit of critique on another person's picture would make the thread worthwhile. I have faith you members can save the thread.
Oh, and I should mention that just by talking about the ads in this thread, Sony has already won.[/i']
I don't think that's necessarily true. Sure, this was a great way to get the word out about it, but it might've been a negative word getting around through some people. Someone might've heard a one-sided and biased view of it, and decided it was racist. That person probably would not buy the white PSP. Yes, they have recognition now, but amongst some it might've been notoriety.
Anyway, I use Internet Explorer. Why? Firefox sucks. I tried it once and hated it. I'm probably just so used to the look and feel of IE that a change from IE to Firefox is to durastic for me. I realize there is a way to make Firefox look like IE, but I did that and it just wasn't the same. I don't think it's fair for you to say that 80% of Internet Explorer users are ignorant. That's an insult. I know that Firefox is better, I just don't give a damn.
I had the same problem as you. It took me a few weeks to get used to the change in look and feel, but after that, I was wondering where Firefox had been all my life. It is shocking and odd to have to re-learn what the right-click options mean exactly. It is annoying to have a completely different set of Options. I would encourage you, however, to at least give it a fair chance and devote a few days just using Firefox. In fairness, IE does have tabbed browsing available now (>_>). I also would say that default IE looks much better than default Firefox, but I could care less what it looks like. So long as I can surf, I don't need all sorts of crazy customization. And John, I believe that the majority of sites are now Firefox-friendly, but there certainly are those annoying ones.

Since your post is riddled with rambling and inaccuracies, I'll go piece by piece. I think I already conceeded the point that this advertisement isn't racist in the light of these new panels, but here we go anyway...
Well most of the outcriers are white people not black people. So um huh? Don't tell me im wrong beacuse my school is prodominantly black and whenever they see something racist they usually just laugh at it. Then the small minority of white people are outraged. Maybe I know an amazing number of cool people who can laugh off rascism but I doubt it.
Then those white people are being politically correct and socially concerned, and I appreciate that. They too can understand just as well as a black person the racial tension that has plagued the States since the colonization of Northern America. How does this change anything at all? In either case, people are sensitive to this sort of thing.
Anyway this doesn't count as rascism beacause both of the ugly girlies are doing it.
Yes, perhaps if you had read my post you would've seen that I said that since they were both doing it, the two actions negate one another, so there's no grounds for accusing them as racist. Thanks for paying me such attention before gutting my opinion.
Also would there be a such a big outcry if it was a spanish lady being "discriminated" against? I don't think so. The spanish were being discriminated against as well as blacks. Actually they were probably discriminated more so bacuse almost all of south america was ransacked by the europeans before there people were enslaved.
To be honest, I doubt there would be such outcry over a spanish lady (And I think you mean Latin American, since Spain is European, and therefore white) being in the advertisement, but for a largely different reason. They weren't enslaved, exploited, or carved up nearly as much as Africa and the people stolen from their homelands. True, there has been a great deal of resentment towards them, and while they were enslaved and killed by the Conquistadores, their treatment pales in comparison to the treatment of the Africans. Africa was carved up by Europe, it's natural resources exploited for European benefit. The people of West Africa were enslaved in huge numbers, and then had to brave an absolutely sickening and brutal Middle Passage. Unless you were asleep in history class, you know how bad it was and what happened after that. Don't tell me that Latin America has had worse luck than Africa. That's a load of...
Also if the africans were not taken from afirica they would all still be there right? So which place would you rather be living in now africa or america?
What a lovely justification for slavery! Those civilized Europeans saved those poor savages and took them to a cultured land where one day they too could have their freedom. How beautiful. I fail to see how this supports at all your claim that the ad is not racist. It just seems like an ignorant and pointless tangent.
Exactly what ignorant rascist people did back then was wrong that is very true.( I say ignorant rascist people beacause not all white people owned slaves). Also if slavery never existed I doubt that this country would be where it is today. So in the long run even if slavery was a horrible act you cannot deny that there were benefits in the long run.
... Am I the only one who thinks you're being a complete fool in trying to justify slavery?
-
The entire reason there is such outcry is because in America, people are race-sensitive. I wonder why? It might be the fact that blacks had been enslaved for several centuries, on top of another century of oppression, and this injustice was done by whites. In the sight of the other images, I have to say it's not racist. In the series, it shows both women asserting dominance, thus negating the one in question. If it had showed the last panel instead of the first, it wouldn't've been called racist. This is because there isn't a long history of blacks oppressing whites, and so there is less care for things jabbing at whites.
-
I don't personally have a problem with it. I really don't think it's that big a deal. People just like to stir up problems and I think thats what this all boils down too. I mean if dave chapelle's and Carlos Mencias careers can flourish I don't see how this is an issue. Oh and in Japan(sonyies headquarters) black and white rasicsm isn't that big of a deal as it is here in america. So they just thought "man this is cool lets do this." But then again I don't beileve rascism exist sooo um yea.
I think there's a stark difference between comedic jokes and an extremely edgy and racially charged advertisement. Yee said he was "disappointed," meaning even though Japan doesn't have as much racial division, it was wrong to him. You must be blind for thinking racism doesn't exist anymore. In any event, I find this advertisement to be disgusting. It screams of white superiority -- the pose, the lighting, the facial expressions, and the text all point to it. "White is coming," as she holds a black man's head with a sullen, slightly angry look on her face. Yes, the point is certainly that white is newer and better, GTK. Thank you for refuting your own point for me. This ad is certainly racist, and if it was not published with those intentions, it still happened to be so. I'm rather suprised, Papa Smurf, that you're congratulating Sony on this ad-campeign. Sure, it drew attention to the product, which was their goal, but this attention in many instances I'm sure was bad attention. I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic, but high-fiving Sony for launching a racist ad is ridiculous. You're supporting discrimination and racial inequality? All I'm wondering is 'Sony, what the hell were you thinking?'
-
And to those that have seen Pulp Fiction before...I'm kind of insulted. It's perfectly fine to enjoy a parody, but to call this brilliance is a bit out of line, I think, because in my opinion, Edit-->Find-->Replace is hardly a sign of brilliance.
That's great. We didn't ask to be called "brilliant" or anything else. We're not trying to label ourselves as script geniuses or anything else of the sort. We were just thinking "Hey, I like Pulp Fiction," "Hey, I like OtakuBoards," "Let's combine the two and see what happens." Sure, this resulted in something pretty close to the original script and we're willing to admit that. We're not ashamed of that, because we weren't trying to claim this was purely of our own devices.
