1.
He made a new viewing on magic, AND created new languages for a book series.
Wrong. He stole the entire thing about a magical language from Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin. The kid's a professional thief. Honestly, the ENTIRE thing is a rip of Star Wars, but instead it's fantasy rather than sci-fi. Young boy grows up on a (moisture) farm,
family dies due to Empire attack, boy flys off with old man, old man just happens to be a master of ____, who imparts upon him knowledge before he sacrifices himself for the boy, etc, etc, etc.
And inventing a new language really isn't all that big a deal. Anyone can throw together some strange letters and call them a new language.
 2. Welcome to OtakuBoards, uchiha-marcus. Introduction threads aren't allowed here, and we prefer if you just dive right into the action by posting instead. If you'd like to show us some of your art, feel free to create your own thread here. But before you get started, please read the Official OtakuBoards Rules. Thanks. Thread closed.
 3. By the way, would you like a few pieces, or just one? I know you said a (one) piece, but hey, why not offer a better representation of ourselves, right?
 4.
I would love to get another shot at something like this again. Count me in.
*smirk* I see you've really run with the typography since you've left. I had to drop out of OG2005 because I went on vacation, but this year... this year... Citrus Explosion (Stock photograph done by me.) 5. I believe there is no conclusive evidence either for or against the existance of God/afterlife/whatever, and therefore, I am Agnostic. I would like to go to Heaven if one exists, but I wouldn't be surprised if all that is left after life is a black void.
 6.
But that second part of this paragraph is absolute rubbish. I've never even heard of those words, and I read a lot of material. I'd go so far as to suggest that whatever those are, the knowledge of their names is unimportant. You don't need to be taught about infinitives or gerunds to be able to speak 'proper' English. Grammar skills can't be formed by ROTE learning some ridiculous rules. You pick up the necessary abilities by reading. That's all you need to do. Read.
It's true that you don't need to know the official words in order to speak correctly, however it is a basic thing to know what a gerund is, as the infinitive or proper verb conjugation. It's true that you don't need to know the names of such terms, but if you don't know what it is at all, you have a problem. Learning the basic mechanics of English really is a must.
 7. Domon, your first and last links are broken. I think that might be why no one is taking your request.
 8.
can anyone make avies? if so can someone teach me or make one for me. none of the ones they provide are ones i want to use. i really want a yu yu hakusho-kurama avie.
If you'd like to learn how to make an avatar, please visit a tutorial site. They're not too hard to find on Google. It would also help if you were to supply images for artists to use. Since they're doing you a favor, the least you can do is make their job easiser by providing the image you'd like to have used. Further description (i.e. "I'd like for it to be sky blue, and the text to be pink") would also give you more luck.
 9.
Epsilon, thank you very much for your input. This is the kind of suggestions that will help this thing to work. From what Epsilon said, I think that we could have one thread for each artist; that would balance it out a bit more. And yes, I would only ask dedicated people to be involved in creating tutorials. I would tell them what would be expected, of course. Yes, it is similar to Art of Otaku, as I mentioned in my first post. Yes, well the tutorials would be posted as they're created. Everything wouldn't be released at the same time. PM's could be used if things start getting too cluttered. Or maybe there could be a separate request thread. Who knows, maybe we could even get our own section if it becomes popular enough. I think that definitely could happen; maybe in the next version of OtakuBoards. By the way, I agree that the FAQ posts may be a good idea. Keep the ideas coming ^_^
Assuming you have one thread for each artist, the forum would become extremely cluttered. Furthermore, if people were to request "______, please write tutorial on shading!" it would sort of exclude other artists if that one got all the requests. This reminds me of my Graphics Club Class Time idea, but there wasn't much participation and it died. There was only one thread, and one person would request a tutorial, and anyone could help out. Just an idea to toss around in your head. If this idea happens to get an extreme amount of traffic and the Art Studio cries out en masse for more and more tutorials, I don't think there'd be a problem creating a sub-forum for tutorials. Keep in mind that this idea would be in the far future, if and only if there is a burst of activity that sustains itself.
 10. @ Dragon Warrior: Sure, I'll do a show. I have a microphone and the standard software (Windows Sound Recorder, found in Start > Accessories > Entertainment). Give me a few days, as in at least until Tuesday, to record my stuff and get it up. I have one final and one project left, and once those are out of the way, it's summer. @ Ezekiel: It's funny because it's true. I suppose I should work on my positive reinforcement when critiquing, shouldn't I? Perhaps it's something I could talk about.
 11. I would like to speak up for American schooling, as it's getting knocked around in here. I attended public school all my life (except high school), and there was definitely stress on learning foreign languages. For the first four out of six years of grade school, we took ICAL (International Culture And Language, if I recall correctly), which did not teach us a great deal of any language, but was more geared to give us an appreciation for other cultures. The second two years we took Spanish (there were no other options at my particular school). By the time I got to middle school, I was still a novice in Spanish, and took two more years of it there. By the time I left middle school I was fairly versed in the language. Once I got to private school, I took two more years of it (both were advanced courses due to my prior experience) before I quit. That's six years of study of one language by my count. These six years were definitely not wasted time -- I picked up a great deal of grammar experience (verb conjugation, syntax, verb-subject agreement, etc.) and now I could get around Spain. My entire point is that American public school is what you make of it as far as foreign languages go. I won't lie; public schools here are definitely sub-par in many cases, and they're tough to succeed in. However, I went to public school for eight grades, and they taught me a fair amount. And by the way, the President is a learned man, but he sure as hell isn't jumping to reform schools. He'd rather fight a war.
 12. No, you don't need an iPod to do it. The term was just coined when people used the microphone on it to record some stuff and transfered it to the computer, I believe. It's just a general term used, much like how iPod has become synonymous with MP3 player.
 13. I thought that Podcasting (only audio) was relatively easy ... all you need is a microphone and some standard software. In any event, what type of hub would be used? A separate site, a thread where you post links to the files, something else? If it's just linking to the uploaded file, I would imagine a Podcast to be easier than a NetMeeting.
 14.
The end result isn't very funny...
Pardon? I was cracking up when I got to the "are missing and presumed dead" part. Sorry if that angers the animal rights crowd here. In any event, you read my mind. How exactly did seven cows fit into a Dodge Neon? Even calves would be difficult, as a Neon is extremely small.
 15. I would recommend that you at least think about making two (or three) separate threads if you want everyone to begin in Neo Chicago, Meteo City, or Paris2 for obvious reasons. And will we all ever meet up at once?
 16. I'm voting for Boo. White, your piece felt cluttered the moment I looked at it. The unaltered, pre-made brush makes the image rather bottom-heavy and unbalanced. I also think your subtext feels awkward - it's two lines long, one of which is longer than the other, and furthermore, the main text doesn't really work well either. Boo, I absolutely loved the gears and arrows idea. At first I didn't really like the arrows, but they definitely grew on me... it now occurs to me they're sort of directionals to the text, leading you upward. Once you get to the cut-off text (another element I was hesistant towards at first), you really get the full effect. Great job on this one.
 17. Perhaps she was suffering head-trauma when she gave her friend's name, as she was the last person she remembered. In any event, I'd have a masked joy after learning that my daughter were still alive. Masked because it's not cool to 'brag' about your daughter being alive after the other couple thought their child was the survivor.
 18.
The idea of race can also adverslely effect what might be positive change. If a study identifies black families as having more children out of wedlock than white families most social scientists keep their hands off of the issue as it may be too "racially sensitive". I think the ability for minorities to use the "race card" is also quite tragic and socially dangerous. So I guess it's a two-way street.
The race card really is lame, but if you're using this in relation to an anti-Affirmative Action stance, I must disagree. As an end-result, color-blindness would be ideal, however Affirmative Action is in place to get to that point. In any event, I sort of wish us black folk would get our act together. I'm tired of the fact that there are more black males between the ages of 18 and 25 in jail than college.
 19.
I love ya Retri, but since when did a Mod-Job constitute a superiority complex?
I don't think I asserted myself as superior. I was just giving my opinion. Take it as you list. Perhaps its because I lack of sense of humor [strike]after my mother dropped me as a baby[/strike]. I also feel dumb now that I don't know what a Mod-Job is. :p PS - I love you, DeathKnight.
 20.
People here are pretty sharp. I mean people here can spell the word "channel". That's a pretty big clue into how sharp they are. ;)
I was pointing out the fact that he was talking about people who aren't actually smart, but act like they are. I was pointing out that even his act was downright awful. I suppose you missed this... either that, or you were just being [strike]obnoxiously[/strike] sarcastic. Pseudointellectuals are annoying, and that's all there is to it. If you don't know something about a given topic, please, spare us and remain silent until you do.
 21.
Someone who repeats what they see on the Discovery channle and the learning network while trying to pass themselves off as knowledgable. Things like that.
Someone who misspells "channel." Things like that.
Obviously, this doesn't cut it with tests etc and my marks are crap, but I still act like I know more than everyone.
You're just ignorant.
 22. Once again, this thread is devoted to your manga in the making, so I'm moving it to the Manga Workshop.
 23. As this looks to be a manga in the works, I'm going to move this to the Manga Workshop. I think your thread would be better suited for over there.
 24. Welcome to OtakuBoards, Kagerayu. First of all, threads offering your services are forbidden -- if you'd like to do people favors by making art for them, check out the Art by Request forum. Secondly, double posts are strictly forbidden, let alone bumps. If no one is posting in your thread, frankly, live with it. You waited an hour, be more patient next time. A new post could be the within the next day (or longer in some cases). Please read the Official OtakuBoards Rules for information on how we expect you to post, and enjoy your stay. Feel free to PM me with questions or concerns. Thanks! Thread closed.
 25. I haven't read any of the stats, but I would assume that cameras would help the situation out quite a bit. They have them installed here in Washington (DC), and no one wants a ticket, so you just don't speed. However, the speeding problem isn't really solved on the highways and interstates, as there's no practical way to set up cameras for long-term usage. I know that everyone speeds here -- I was driving on the Beltway the other day, and the posted limit was 55 MPH. I was barely keeping up going 65 MPH, and many others were easily pushing 75, and they weren't the ones that I considered dangerous. I definitely think that we shouldn't speed, but I also think they should raise the speed limits. It's ridiculous to expect people to drive 55 MPH when you could drive at 65 MPH safely.
