I like the text in this -- how'd you manage to do that? I can never end up making my animations that smooth. Good looking on the whole, but I don't like the transition from the wheel to the text -- it feels like these two halves of the signature aren't united at all. Perhaps a motion blur of the wheel to giving it the illusion of motion or something. Perhaps you could just have a bigger picture of a BMW with the text over it so that it doesn't look as split as it is now.

HeartStopper, please keep in mind this is a Request Forum, and common practice around here is that those who want something done post a thread requesting it, and the artists respond accordingly. If someone needs an avatar/banner set, they will ask for one, and you can reply there. Familiarize yourself with the Rules so that these kinds of things can be avoided later on down the road. I'll keep the thread open solely because it has the potential to fulfill Sora's request. I ask that no more requests are placed here. Thanks

Who's line is it anyway?-Otaku lounge style comedy corner
Retribution replied to Nomura's topic in General Discussion
Since my life is generally boring, do you think you could open up the criteria to online conversations as well? I find those to be much more hilarious, and Trillian automatically logs them, so they're saved already. How about it? -
Well, considering it's been a week and two days since the last post, I'll take it that we're not getting any more. Honestly, it was a bit disappointing getting only three votes for submissions that took us a while, but that's how it goes I suppose. I'd love to battle you again, White. Good match.

Although this is somewhat of an old topic, I'm going to move it into Art by Request because it sounds like you're looking for an artist to help you. I'd also recommend giving some more detail as to what exactly you'd like done for you -- you'd get more people willing to help if you did that. So please read the Rules and good luck with your project.

Art A Graphic Made In Paint (It's not a anime graphic)
Retribution replied to Cat's topic in Creative Works
Truth be told, I'm completely in awe that you did such a great job in MSPaint. I'm assuming that you got the bubbles from somewhere else, but even so, putting Green Day on top of that without help of layers looks like it'd be hard. And how'd you manage to "extract" the band members from their backgrounds? I know Paint doesn't really have those tools, so did you use the paint bucket very carefully? Once again, a nice job overcoming the limitations of Paint. I'd also recommend downloading GIMP for free if you're serious about graphic design. -
It's no big deal for me, just wondered why with all the avatars Matrix has it was never given it's own category. I think another soultion that would work to pad-out the plethora of Matrix avatars would be to make some more movies ones up to add movie variety. I'll see what I can do in regards to submitting some.
It think it's because there are some movies that don't have enough for their own catagory, and others that do, so instead of going halfway, Des was going to keep it as is. I think a solution to it might be a "Misc. Movies & TV" or something for all those movies that don't have enough for their own gallery, but it would also let you move all your movies to their own catagory. And I know I might be getting a bit too complicated, but could there just be sub-galleries? That way you'd have the "Movies & TV" sub-gallery, and within that every movie would have their own section. I think it'd be pretty organized that way.

Yeah, my Valentines Day was a love-hate relationship -- not because of the lonelyness, but because of ... alright, nevermind. :3 Firstly, I dig the angsty vibe I'm getting from this, in all seriousness. The little dude you drew (yourself, obviously) is actually a very well-done chibi. I'd recommend not using what looks to be the airbrush next time, but you pretty much hit it spot-on there. As for the rest of it, well, there's just too much open space. If you brought down the text, or maybe had a scene involving the chibi guy on the bottom, things might be interesting. It's a good touch the "SUCKS" you added in a semi-graffiti font at a cool angle. Unfortunately, it overlaps some iffy heartyweirdy text. In other words, I don't think the "Valentines Day" doesn't really work, solely because it looks stoic, but it has cute little hearts in it. I'm confused. Next on the list is that bloody pixel font that I told you never to use again, you evil man. It was just downright hard to read this time around, but I could see how it'd be hard to find another font to use in its stead. Finally is the background, which actually took me several seconds to realize. Very nice touch, and I think it'd be complimented by the addition of more elements, whatever you want those to be.

How about a drawing of the classic Iwo Jima shot, but with a twist? I originally had an idea for the twist (the flag being hoisted on top of America's enemies), but realized it might not work out. I'd also recommend keeping that 10% to yourself -- the person who gives you the idea doesn't deserve it.

Call me a square or whatever, but... I don't like any type of piercing except for the ears on boys or girls. It looks very ... hm ... unnatural and unattractive to me. As for colored contacts, those can be very cool if they're not the kind that cover your whole eyeball (the ones that make your eyes all black or all white, for example). I suppose I like more natural-looking eyes, but as long as the color isn't really crazy, I'm alright with it. And by the way -- I saw Sharingan eye contacts, but they didn't rotate. Still, very awesome.
Hitler vs. Al Gore (two lying nit-wits)
I know you're not talking about Gore. I must've heard you wrong.
A basic samurai vs. a basic european knight ( that'd just be sweet)
Aw, c'mon! That's not even fun -- a basic european knight would destroy a samurai. The katana was actually a weapon designed to hit flesh and not steel, so the katana would break after about two clashes with another sword, let alone a broadsword. Then again, the main weapon of the samurai was a bow. I'd like to see Jesus versus Buddha or Gandhi ... lmao. Godzilla versus Japan would be pretty awesome too.
Too much time on their hands, boredom?
Superior technology that allows for these patterns to be layed in a fraction of a nanosecond by lasers from trillions of lightyears away? But really, I think that the crop circles are a load of BS, but it's interesting how perfect they look from above. I wonder how the farmers do it when they don't really have a good vantage point of what it looks like from the sky.
well today i was watching Azumanga daioh's last episode and i was thinking what's going to be like when i graduate? i couldnt stop crying and all but it really made me think. i still have two years left in high school and i was wondering about everyone else. is graduating a really big thing for you? i mean my middle school graduation really wasnt a big thing because everyone i graduated with went next door to the high school. but now its going to be really hard to part after being with everyone for like 7 years. i will be even harder for me because all my friends are a grade higher than me , which means they leave earlier..:animecry: whhaaaaaaaa!!!!! i hope im not alone!!!
Well, I found that my middle school graduation wasn't a huge deal, even though I went to a different high school than the rest of my friends. When I was an incoming freshman, I had three vague aquaintances. I basically knew I was going to start from scratch and leave all my old friends behind. Yes, I got a bit teary-eyed (NOT crying, you wussies!), but I kept in touch with my really good friends, and all is still well. High school graduation feels like a huge step that will occur in my life very soon. This time, it's going to be extremely hard, as I've made two phenomial friends whom I expect to keep in close touch with throughout college and beyond, as well as a slew of other great buddies. I've noticed that all my other friends that graduated last year told me "It's a chapter of my life that's now closed." In a way, it sounds sad, but it's also very true. You cannot live in the past -- rather, you must look to the future, be brave in the face of whatever you may see ahead of you, and let life go on. You can't go back in the past and live high school over again, so live it how you'd like to live it, because once it's over, it's over. I'm taking [a lot] more [social] risks this year, as I realized that I don't want to look back 30 years from now wishing that I had asked some girl out, or maybe made friends with that one person. No regrets.

Perceptions of Self vs Social Perception
I see you as a very intelligent individual, although I don't really know you that much, that's just what I get from your presence on the board.
Thanks for the compliment and the reinforcement of my point. I don't think it's a problem if people see me as intelligent -- it's a problem when they dismiss me as some intelligent kid who spends all his life on schoolwork. That's the part that really bugs me. -
I was also disappointed when Michelle Kwan dropped out... it's really a pity that one of the most talented figure skaters in the world cannot win the gold medal in Olympics now.
Eh, after hearing my dad's spin on the story, I don't feel nearly as much sympathy as before. Apparently, she wasn't even first in the qualifying round for the Olympics -- she got 2nd place to some other woman, and they were like "But she's Kwan, sooooo she's in. Srry!1" Now that Kwan's dropped out, they called her back up and were like "omfg get on a plane right now and get over here plzzkthxbai" I'd rather have the better competitor earn their place in the Olympics.

My god, Kiyana -- there's no reason to take your life because of a holiday. The picture you posted was rather disturbing. I suppose this wouldn't be a good time for me to voice my opinion on how I feel about those who 'hate valentines day.' >_>

Perceptions of Self vs Social Perception
Retribution replied to elfpirate's topic in General Discussion
I think there's always going to be a huge difference between what you yourself see yourself as in comparison to others, even your closest family and friends. Who knows yourself better than you? I think that people dismiss me as the short, slightly annoying, too-smart-for-his-own-good, didn't-he-skip-a-grade? type. I'm compared to "my little nephew!" a whole lot, so I'm aware that I look [painfully] young. In contrast, I see myself as only slightly short, and people are just really skewing things out of proportion because of my boyish face. I also see myself as pretty smart, but I do other things aside from school like any other human. I see myself as a pragmatic cynic with a humanitarian soft-side. And that part is never lost on my aquaintances. I'm pretty sure the only stereotypes people file me as are 1) 'genius' little boy 2) immature child or 3) annoying little boy. There's really nothing I can do as far as the little-boy stereotype is concerned except for keep living life so that my face looks a tad bit older, but it bothers me alot sometimes. And I'm taking AP Psychology next year... I've already been doing alot of reading on it -- Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud primarily, but I've also been picking up little pieces of information on human behavior from Wikipedia. I'm also been conducting my own mini-experiments on people -- Gauging reactions and how emotions change -- that sort of thing. So far people have gotten a bit frustrated with them... I'll give you an example. I was testing to see which friends of mine were good at planning ahead, weighing benefits, and delaying gratification for a higher payoff layer. I told everyone in (what looked to be) complete seriousness "Alright, I owe you some money from a while back -- would you like a dollar today or two dollars next week?" Most everyone asked for the two bucks next week, save for one who just wanted the dollar that day. When I told them it was just a test, the reactions ranged from "Oh, f$ck you Alex," to "Ohhh... you're evil (fake smile)." -
Art SuperPlant! [Updated when I feel like it]
Retribution replied to TheShinje's topic in Creative Works
Tell you the truth, I'd say that Slackers in Slacks and this have different types of humor. Yes, you're gonna get screwed by DW's satire, but for the moment, you've done well. The crude line drawings are endearing in and of themselves, and the only thing I'd work on is the punchlines. For instance, the one about the robber totally went over my head. And try to do multi-celled comics as well -- it might be right up your alley. -
Oh, yes, millitarily the US will be formidable for some time, barring somthing drastic... the US' biggest strength is the willingness of it's people to defend it, and the ease with which they can be armed. But being a superpower means more than being able to bully your way around with a millitary, a superpower is a country that excels in all aspects... not just millitary, but agriculture and economy and trade and foreign policy and everything... once the US is gone, which it argueably already has, from superpowerdom, there will be no one left. It sure as hell won't be China :animestun
So you're saying there will be no superpowers once America declines? I'm confused. Of course China will be a superpower -- they pay their workers close to nothing, so they can produce more than any other nation thanks for their huge population. They're catching up with the US so fast it's hilarious/scary, depending on how you view things. And plenty of Europe will be a superpower -- I think you're really underestimating Europe's capability both economically and militarily. I agree with you that to be a superpower, you have to be strong in more respects than just one. But I don't think America's going to decline into some dark-age state where we end up like Niger or something. I'm pretty certain that as long as we're in Iraq, we're going to go downhill, but I think that lost ground will be easy to pick up once a wise President reaches office. The first step will be to pay off this monumental debt, which will really be something, but I wouldn't count America out of the world scene.
Most non-partisan (OK, maybe a bit partisan...) economists project America's debt to reach 1.3 TRILLION dollars. [...] Basically what I'm saying is... the US is ******. The days of being a superpower will, soon enough (if they don't already), exist soley in the self-made image (aka propogandga) that the US has constructed for itself. Have fun.
Eh, try a bit higher on the debt-estimate. We're really screwed. But we're still a superpower, despite our huge debt. We're certainly one of the strongest nations on the block -- I mean, whether that'll change or not is up for debate, but for the time being, we're still a formidable foe.
I'm sorry, I know we all have pretty diverse opinions on the issue, but all this jargon and rhetoric is kind of redundant. Yes, smoking ANYTHING is bad for you and your lungs. No, just because I smoke pot doesn't mean I can't read or that I'm an addict. Yes, I do smoke pot everyday. No, I do not suffer withdrawl symptoms from going without smoking pot. Yes, I can smoke pot everyday and still read WELL, in fact, I enjoy reading. Don't lump pot smokers with the rest of those chemical drug users. Why don't we start talking about something we can all agree on, cokeheads, e-tards, the growing issue of meth, and how these three drugs as well as others are becoming increasingly MORE available than pot.
What I was saying was that, while you don't notice it right now, you will later in your life. If you smoke pot every day (especially during Adolescence), then for sure your brain will not have developed to its full potential.
No. Square. This statement pisses me off. Some of the replies here have knocked drugs, but have respected the fact that whoever wants to do it, can do it, because it's their life, and that you should be able to do what you want to do... contrary to your beliefs.
Every other one of my statements that I'd made basically said that it's your life, do what you will. This one statement was there to say -- It's your life, do what you will, but it's not good for you. I have friends who do pot, but I'm not about to report them to the police, or tell their parents or anything. I just tell them that they shouldn't smoke pot, and I'll be damned if there's something wrong with speaking your mind on the issue.

I might be able to help you if you gave me a specific topic to help you out with. And I'd recommend using www.pixel2life.com as a tutorial site if you're unsure about how to do something in your graphic-making program. For some basic info on some tools in Photoshop (assuming that's the program you use), click here.

The sad thing, or perhaps the hilarious thing about this is I can actually see him doing something like persuading his parents to take him to Venice for "cultural enrichment *coughandthechixorzcough*." But the Olympic games only last a few weeks -- he doesn't have much time to work with.
I watched the snowboarding highlights earlier as well, and man, that Shaun White is bloody impressive. I'm so glad he got gold.
And he's American, baby! It's hilarious -- I was reading an article in the Post about him today. When asked what he wanted to accomplish in Torino, he answered "I'm just here for the babes." I'm assuming he was joking, but I still found it hilarious. But really -- I think for a long, long while, America has always ended up with the most gold medals after everything was said and done. I might be wrong, but I doubt it. EDIT: Uh-oh, folks. I'm back with proof! [clicky], but Germany did in fact have the most medals in Nagano.

These look pretty good, to tell you the truth. In general, the character feels a bit 'clunky' (the hands and feet most noticably), but for your first character, it's great. I'd recommend a study of feet/shoes on pixel characters, as that seems to be one of your weak spots. Truth me told, it looks like the characters are walking on parallelograms, but that might just be me. The hands are similar in the respect that they look like a mitten rather than a glove, if you get what I'm trying to say. The hair has minor errors, like it looks a bit 'thick,' but that's not a huge deal to me. You might do well changing the color of his pants -- they're too close in color with his hair. But again, as your first, really top-notch job!
