1. I live in the Philippines, and we've seen a lot of anime already. The average Filipino teen would have seen at least 5 new anime titles on TV each year, on average, which is more than what is shown in the U.S. Of course, the balance is offset by the number of videos released there each year. And hopefully, another great title in the same genre as YYH and DBZ should be shown there: Flame of Recca is my favorite, and in many ways, IMO, it is better than YYH.
2. Just watch the show further--it's just 5 episodes out of 106 episodes, so you won't see much yet until later. I would say that it gets more interesting as you go on. Funny, though, thatthey should just show it once a week--it is very long, and at the rate it's going, you will see its conclusion next year. We had Yu Yu Hakusho on here daily, and at 7pm the second time it was aired (it's now on its second replay, or third showing, at 5pm daily).
3.
Originally posted by GokusDarkLover i dont get how anybuddy can really hate DragonBall
Let's see--pointless fighting, long fight sequences that almost leads to nowehere--oh yeah, I'm talking about Dragonball Z, but then again, Dragonball isn't all that much better. And if there's another pointless show, it's Doraemon. Yes, it's a classic, but then there's almost no point to the show.
4.
Originally posted by Shyguy I always see you talk about Oh My Godess! Milliardo. Do you really like the show that much?
Funny, I don't recall mentioning OMG that much here. Maybe in PGamers, but not here. But even so, yes, I like the OVA that much.
5. Personally, I would like to see more coverage of Oh! My Goddess! It's a short OVA (5 episodes, plus the movie, and not counting the Adventures of the Mini Goddesses), so covering it wouldn't take too much work.
6.
Originally posted by Zidane Ok just a quick question, I';ve heard this Japanese word a couple of times, once off GTA3. 'Gaijin; (sp?) I presume it means white person, I'm not too sure.
Gaijin means 'foreigner'. But, not to knock Japanese down, since anyone who loves anime would somehow love their culture, but they are quite biased against Koreans, and it's only now that they are opening up to Koreans...somewhat...

8. I'll make just one comment on a series, and that's Yu Yu Hakusho, since I've seen the whole series. If you thought you've seen it all, you haven't seen the best there is there yet. It has about 106 episodes, so there's so much to look forward to. If you liked Dragonball, you will love YYH. They're the same genre, though YYH is so much better, and that's no exaggeration.
9. Everyone has been a loner in his life at some point. I wouldn't say I'm a loner--a loner is someone who practically avoids any social contact, and would just be with himself. I don't do that--I still go out and meet my friends.
10. As far as I know, the Gundam X Divider didn't use the satellite cannon in any way. Only the Gundam X, and the Double X, relied on the satellite cannon. Don't exactly remember the anime (I last saw it last year), but that's as much as I remember.
11. There are two things at work here: one is that priests have made a vow to serve God, and serve faithfully. Since that is the case, then, the Church takes their word for it if such people don't admit it, since their vow makes them liable for their actions. Until it is proven otherwise, the Church will stand by these people because they have vowed to be fauthful to their calling. If found that they have not done so, the Church often will not hesitate to take them off the priesthood. However, the Church also conducts its own investigation on the matter, to see the other possibility: that these priests might also be victims of malicious intent. Another point is that there are not too many priests who are like that, and indeed majority are still faithful to the call as servants of God. Media, however, makes a fenzy of such issues, since it is news. And news like that sells.
12. I don't understand by what you mean about the changes in relationships, then again I haven't seen the dub, since I live here in Asia. Anyway, if you made an example of those relationships you've listed, as far as I know they're the exact same relationships in the original, unless you uninentionally used the dub names instead of the original.
13. Here we go again, the ever-misguided notion that anime is not cartoons. That's just Western, and particularly, American distinction; Japanese doesn't make the same distinction. Or, in short, they do recognize Powerpuff Girls as anime as much as, say, Dragonball Z or Rurouni Kenshin. I guess it would be helpful in knowing which definition people go by when they talk about anime: is it the American definition, which confines anime strictly to Japanese animation, or is it by Japanese definition, which encompasses all (and let me emphasize that one) animation as anime?
14. Malaysian is actually almost like Bahasa Indonesia, actually. Not that I'm Indonesian, but I've been to Indonesia. I do live near Malaysia, though.
15. Good thing I don't live in the U.S., and have to suffer through the crapiness of the U.S. Action Figures. I've seen samples of the Action Figures, and compared it with the Japanese MSiAs, and they're very far from each other. The difference lies in the painting: MSiA has panel lines, making its painting actually more detailed than the Action Figures. I think what we have here is the Hong Kong variant, though, which have the gold paint on those that are yellow; the effect is simply stunningly different from that of the Action Figures. As an example, I have seen the Action Figure of Epyon, and not only is there no panel lines, but the claws on its forearms are painted a hideous yellow. Contrast that with the excellent painting of it in the MSiA, and the difference is strikingly brilliant. Also, MSiA have more spare parts, I noticed, than Action Figures.
16. Well, to get a serious topic on this forum, as well as discuss an issue, here is something that I found in another board. I think it has deeply concerned the anime community online and off, in some way: The death of Subtitled VHS: In recent months, a new trend has begun among the U.S. anime companies, the complete cancellation of subtitled VHS releases. This sudden move is so shocking that it caught many fans off guard. Debates are being waged on the Internet about wether it is an attempt to retire all subtitled releases permanently. Before things get out of hand, people should look at the facts and the reasons behind this sudden universal industry trend. Why are subtitled VHS releases being canceled? The reasons are twofold, lack of retail support and the advent of anime on DVD. Let's look at how the situation began. Around three to four months ago, Central Park Media announced all subtitled releases were being placed on moratorium. Some new releases and ongoing series such as Slayers would still have subtitled versions, but for the most part, they were no longer producing subtitled tapes. Soon after, Bandai announced there would be no subtitled release of Gundam Wing. ADV was next in line when they made a similar announcement. AnimEigo shocked the entire anime community by announcing that they were switching to DVD exclusively. For years, anime companies have been trying to target the non-anime consumer. This is why dubbed tapes have always been priced lower to lure them in. As a result, only hardcore fans purchase subtitled tapes. Since subtitled tapes don't produce enough profit, retailers such as Suncoast no longer wish to buy them from manufacturers. Declining retail sales are also caused by the factor, the explosion of anime on DVD. In the last year, anime DVD releases have become a major part of the DVD market. With DVD, anime companies can present their product in near perfect visual quality and sound, as well as offer lower price box sets. Compare the pricing on a VHS and DVD release. For thirty dollars, one could buy two subtitled episodes of Cowboy Bebop on VHS. For the same amount of money, one could buy the DVD, which contains five episodes in both languages, as well as many extras. Who would buy the tape in this situation? Not even considering dual languages or bonuses, the episode count on the DVD gives it the clear advantage. In response to this, VHS fans state that anime companies are forcing them to buy DVD players against their will. The answer can be let go of VHS. Fans are unfairly lashing out at companies. Robert Woodhead, CEO of AnimEigo, stated "The subtitled VHS market has gone to hell in the last six months." He made a bold move by switching to DVD. Look at it from his perspective; AnimEigo is a small company, and its lifeblood is rooted in subtitled releases. If retailers don't want to buy subtitled tapes, what is Mr. Woodhead would do? Should he sell subtitled tapes on the street or college campuses? Of course not. He's seen how the market is going, and his company has to adept if it wishes to survive. If AnimEigo dies off, who will release the classics like Macross and Urusei Yatsura? Although other companies have more resources, they share the same concerns. Fans who can't see this are trying to stir up trouble. Recently, someone started an online petition for ADV to release a subtitled VHS version of Sakura Diaries. So far, he only has a handful votes. The reason is that it's a pointless battle. Some say we must let go of VHS and embrace DVD; it allows anime to look and sound better than it ever has before. Chris Beveridge, who runs the popular site animeondvd, best summarized the sentiments. On the title bar of the website is a quote that reads: "Anime on DVD: no longer the future, it's reality." Well, that's the topic. And hopefully it will make for a good discussion.
17.
Originally posted by SuperSayian But for us, it's as normal as daylight.
It doesn't mean it's right, just because people use it now, does it? And yes, we were raised to be decent and good. If you're raised otherwise, I'd question the wisdom of your parents. But I would think they're wise. Anyway, to be back on topic (again): what anime would be shown in Toonami? I doubt that there's really much that can be shown unedited. Most would involve some form of editing, though of course some would be more heavily edited than others. One anime that might pass without much editing (only minimal would be done) would be Oh! My Goddess!. I don't know how many would view shoujo anime though, and a romantic one at that.
18. I don't even know why they edit out such words. We adults use that often (I'm 32), and such words as 'damn' is not even very string language; it is, in fact, the shortened form of 'condemned'. It has even found its way to legitimate usage for a long time now. I would censor strong language such as the 'f' word, but not this one. Anyway, to be on topic, I hope that Toonami will continue on, and that they show more anime. It is good to know that anime has become more regular now, and that even American cartoons are starting to copy the style of anime.
19. It's impractical. The very first problem is, what will the story be about? And it's hard to have all characters in one story, since the focus won't surely be on one character only, making it hard to follow the story.
20. I'll answer that with a resounding 'yes'. Anime has been available here for many years now, starting with TV and now on video. We've been exposed to anime since 1978.
21. You might want to go over at ADV Films' website for details on getting the Sorcerer Hunter videos.
22. I like Pokemon Crystal. I have to play it extensively, but it has become my favorite in a short time.
23. I've seen parts of it, since it was shown here on TV two months ago. I wanted to get it for my collection, though, so I purposely didn't watch too much of it.
24. For some odd reason, everyone suddenly wants to see Ranma 1/2 for those scenes. If you do want to know...the anime is actually a romantic sex comedy, though it is not hentai. The jokes are mostly implied, though at times they can be quite overt in the jokes, especially when it involves happosai.
25. I've only seen the alternate series so far, and I would put in Gundam X first, followed by Gundam Wing, and then G Gundam.
