Read the thread, man. Just 'cause you're not Aber doesn't mean the thread creator's rules don't apply.
I just got owned. Oh well. I'll still try for it. The After Life Life had never been good to me. So when that drunk driver t-boned my car, I wasn't necessarily dissapointed to be dead. No, my disappointment comes from the fact that I'm still walking around. Somewhere in between the morgue and the funeral, I woke up completely surrounded by total black. See now, I would have panicked. That would have been the normal thing to do, but what's weird about being dead is that your emotions kinda go out with the life-support system. So instead of panicked fear or confusion, I responded to the situation with more of a mild suprise. I wondered where I could be. Hell maybe? Purgatory? Or was this just what it was after you died? Blackness? That sure would be lame, I thought. But then I noticed the smell, this wretched stench of rotting flesh and what must have been formaldehyde. However, I couldn't see anything. I started touching the area surrounding myself and felt cold steel. I felt some light resistance and felt my body move on a slab or platform when I applied pressure. Pressing a bit harder, I pushed upward on the metal above me, causing the slab I lay on to slide out into a room filled with blinding florescent light. Air rushed into my lungs, but for some reason it didn't feel like normal breathing. Like drinking water when you weren't thirsty. Strange. I looked down and realized I was completely nude, wearing only a set of bloody stitches on my chest, shaped like the letter "Y". Totally ruined my boobs. I slowly tried to get off the cold slab. Again, the cold didn't bother me, it felt like it belonged to me. My whole body felt cold. I figured this is what lizards and fish must feel like. My feet landed with a fleshy slap onto the lanolium floor. I realized that I had been inside a one of those weird body-filing-cabinet things you see in all the movies. I felt a weird pressure on my big toe and realized that tag with my name on it was dangling from it. I reached down to snatch it off when I realized that I wasn't alone. Standing in a darkened corner of the room stood a strange looking man. He wasn't dressed like a coroner or anything. He wore a trendy outfit comprised of dark-denim jeans, black Adidas and an tight-fit blazer, a white-shirt beneath it. He wore a black fedora and matching sunglasses to go along with the outfit. Raven black hair hung from beneath the hat in silky strands. I'll admit, he was pretty nice looking, but still, desire had left with my other emotions. As soon as I had noticed him, he withdrew a cigarette from his jacket's inside pocket and lit it with a chrome zippo. He must have been trying to instill a scene. I had to admit it was working. I decided to speak first. "So... do you chill in morgues often or is it a special occasion?" He looked to me with a smirk, "Special occasion. I was waiting for you to wake up." His skin was a smooth brown, and his handsome face reminded me of an Egyptian prince or Pharaoh. Dignified, and strong. "Care to explain what's going on, here? I mean, I know if I were where you are, I'd be a little weirded out by a talking corpse." He began walking towards me, his sneakers squeaked as he stepped across the floor. "Well, Michelle, I need you." "Your not one of those... ugh... weird necrophiliacs are you? Because, honestly, your nice looking and all but that's a little weird for me." "Disgusting... Listen, I'm the reason you're walking around. I have domain over your kind." "You mean single white females?" "No, I mean dead bitches who don't know when to shut their mouths." "Easy there, slim. I was just, well, come on." "Yeah, weird, meaning of life, blah, blah, blah. I've heard it a thousand times. My name is Anubis, and I need you." "Anubis as in Jackal God of Death Anubis?" "You got it." "Wow." "Yeah, wow. Anyway, every other century, the Gods like to get together, and have a little 'competition' to decide who has reign over the next hundred years of human society." "You're Gods, why would you care?" "Aaru is kind of boring, its just reeds and rivers and pompous Pharaohs trading stories... so, yeah. We have a competition to see who gets to play on Earth." "And why is it you need me, again?" "What do you know about your ancestors, Michelle?" "Uhm... Not to be rude, but... still naked." Challenge: Write 300 word story about romantic love. Pertaining to the subject of Summer Slaughter Tour, I just picked up my ticket yesterday from a friend who's band is opening for the South Carolina leg of the tour. If you want to see a cutting edge technical death metal/deathcore band, here's a good one that I definetly like. They are called Tales of the Black Freighter from Lexington, SC. They're named after the comic book within the graphic novel The Watchmen about a man who is marooned on an island by a demonic crew of pirates. After making a corpse raft, killing his own family, and doing many other metal things all under the influence of complete insanity, he joined the crew of the Black Freighter. So, their music is generally themed around the premise of that story, pirates, war, and etc. So check 'em out. My favorite song right now is "Legions". They are currently finishing a five-song demo right now. Tales of the Black Freighter Myspace Enjoy and discuss, shall we? The vocalist is a friend of mine and the closest thing to a vocal mentor that I have. Lemme know what you guys think, because I love it, particularly live.
thank ya thank ya, but you also did it wrong :P (fixed your html)
Question mark? Anyways, there's an arcade a little ways away from my house that has a DDR machine and some other similar game. I plan on visiting there more often and playing, because I thoroughly enjoy it.
I used to wrestle a lot back in highschool and ever since that's been over, all I've been doing is playing myself to oblivion with DDR. The game keeps me in some sort of shape and I play often enough in the arcade to be pretty good...and if you don't believe me...proof's in the pudding
Ur doin' it wrong. Lemme helpz. Korey: I love myself some DDR also. I'm definetly not great at it, but its fun. I wish I could play more often.
I try to work out every other day, but admittedly my routine isn't rounded enough yet. So far, I've been focusing on my pectorals, biceps, triceps, abs, and shoulders. I've totally neglected my legs for now. Aside from leg press, I'm thinking about doing sprints to build up strength and definition (particularly in my calves). Could anyone tell me if that's a good/effective idea?
Ain't nothin' wrong with lookin' good, baby. I know that's why I try to excercise often. I'd say do squats and calf-raisers to supplement the sprinting. I know that those work, but I'm not sure on the sprinting. It might, it might not, I don't know about it really. I sounds like it could work, and it'd probably be fun. It'd also probably be good for breathing and blood flow. Doing them back to back will help your cardio-vascular system also I know. So I'd say go for it, but if you want make sure you're getting definition, do the squats and calf-raisers along with it. And I also love playing the occasional game of soccer, though it has been a while. It's dangerous playing with me, because I'll kick head level ALOT, haha.

The topic is simple. I know the OB isn't populated by a bunch of lazy couch potatoes (atleast I'm not). So the question is, how does the average Otakuboards member stay in shape, and what are some of your favorite physical activities (i.e., sports, games, what-have-you). For me, its as follows: Martial Arts: a big passion for me that started with four years in Tae Kwon Do. After getting a black belt, I moved onto doing other forms to broaden my horizons. This was helped along with my love and interest in mixed martial arts (such as UFC, WEC, etc). I love the thrill of a sparring match, grappling, and what not. I've picked up skills in kickboxing, submission grappling (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) and I even joined my school's wrestling team for a season. Me and a few of my friends occasionally get together and have friendly body-shot/grappling fights (no one gets hurt really). It's a good time, definetly the most entertaining physical activity for me to take part in. And when no one is around, nothing is wrong with a little shadowboxing and hitting my punching bag. Good stuff. I've also since picked up basic tricking and free-running from martial arts, which is another acvitivy unto itself, and very fun. Dancing: I've been dancing for sometime now, but most of it was self-taught or through watching music videos. None the less, I became good enough at it for people to ask for me for lessons, which I always turn down. Of course, my main style is Hip Hop, and that was my only style until this past year when I joined my school's latin dane club, and made the ensemble group. My horizons have since been broadened. Dancing is really, really fun. I love doing it, and I've been put on stage several times over the past year in order to show what I can do. Just give me a beat, and I'll be dancing. Also I've picked up what most call "hardcore dancing" or "throwing down" at Death Metal and hardcore punk shows, which is just as fun, though often dangerous. My skills in martial arts definetly flow over into this in an interesting way. Fun times. Basketball: I've loved basketball for a very long time. I used to play on a team in my Jr. High days, but after my first season, I realized that I loved playing streetball one-on-one or three-on-three far more than having a whole team relying on me. There's nothing quite like a good game of basketball. It's just an exhilarating game for me. My family used to own a goal, and there is one in my neighbourhood out front that I play on often. I love the game. Go Celtics! Heh. So what about you?
I'm really reading much of anything right now, and that's a bit of a shame. When I do read things, I get really engrossed and I sit and read for hours at a time and I really enjoy it. Must be something I get from my mother. So, maybe it's a little off topic (but whatever), but maybe somebody could give me some suggestions on something to read. I'm really partial to anything that has maybe Vampires, magic or some kind of fantasy setting. Never hurts to have a little horror/scares in there either!
If you want really superb modern fantasy, go with American Gods by Neil Gaiman as I just read. Anyways, I just finished reading the graphic novel Wanted by Mark Millar. It's a FANTASTIC comic and self contained. The new movie coming out is very loosely based on the original comic. I loved it. It puts a whole new spin on comic book supervillains. Its good stuff.
Then talk about metal. As long as its extreme, why does it matter?
Because Hardcore punk and hardcore techno don't fall under metal.

While I really want to contribute to this thread, I really can't be on the cutting edge of games due to me not having the money to buy every new game. But I can provide a "greatest hits" section for the PS2 and Xboc 360. I probably won't rate many games under a 9 or 10, otherwise I just won't take the time. So here goes my first, one of my favorite games of all time: Resident Evil 4 Producer: Capcom Released: 2006 Systems: Playstation 2, Gamecube, Wii. Rated: Mature Graphics: For any system you get it for, RE4's graphics are top notch, particularly for the Gamecube and PS2. The attention to detail, gory blood shed, and head-popping action are all amazingly presented. The enviroments all provide an eerie, dark, and often disgusting back drop for this haunting game. The animations are all smooth, the bit-rate never misses a beat, and the enemy designs are all terrifying (particularly a little guy you will come to know as "that crazy blind thing"). Story: Great, all in all. There are some weird parts, particularly a creepy little man child you will come to meet, but all in all the story adds depth to the Resident Evil saga. Leon S. Kennedy, last seen in Racoon City, starting his first day on the police force the same day that the "incident" occured. The scrappy little blonde has since grown up and raised the ranks of the government, becoming the personal bodyguard of the President's daughter. But bad news, she has been kidnapped by a group of crazy spanish cult members. So its Leon's job to go rescue her. Little does he know that his enemies are playing around with a dangerous parasitic organism that turns its host into ruthless zombies... hilarity thus ensues. Gameplay: The best the Resident Evil series has ever offered. The combat system has had a total facelift, and allowed for a combination of the classic item management, along with a swift over the shoulder aiming system which allows Leon to effeciently dispatch his foes. The only draw back is that you cannot run or strafe while aiming or firing. However, most players should not find this difficult to deal with. Our hero is also equipped with a handy combat knife which comes to use very, very often if you are a resourceful player, and an array of awesome martial arts moves. My favorite is the suplex, where Leon makes the WWE look like The View (i.e., he makes freakin' heads explode). Another nifty thing is that the puzzle system, while still in tact, is not so darned annoying. Plus, the addition of the boobie trap system is really fun. It basically turns Leon into a modern-day Indiana Jones (you will literally be running from a boulder and leaping out the way). The system works like this... you are walking, minding your own business, and then suddenly some bad guys start throwing giant rocks at you. A flashing button will appear on the screen indicating which to press on the controller. If you manage it in time, you survive. If not, you can either be harmed, or be gruesomely dismembered depending on the trap. This system is also worked into another amazing part of the game... The Boss battles... Easily some of the best in gaming. They are very fun, numerous, creative, and challenging. Each one provides its own unique challenge, and you will always be left with a sense of "Wow, I can't believe I actually survived that". And heck, even if you don't survive it, usually you'll die in a manner that will leave you saying "HOLY ****!". Yeah, it gets gruesome. Did I mention this game had an M rating? I actually played through the game a whole nother time just to see how many different ways the bad guys could kill Leon. There's alot, and most of them look really, really cool. Couple all this with a really cool weapons system, loads of unlockable content (depending on the system, you will be treated with different things. I suggest the PS2 and Wii version to get the most bang out of your buck. You get more weapons, more costumes, and even an entire side-game featuring a play through with Ada Wong), and entirely seperate, and highly addicting side game called "Mercenaries" where you own as many zombies as you can, and you got yourself what we call in the business "a classic". Resident Evil 4 is, and always will be, one of my favorite games of all time. It has provided me with countless memories of awesome zombie disposal, and getting owned myself. If you haven't played it, you are simply missing one of the greatest gaming experiences of the past decade, and I dare say, of all time. Buy it. You can probably find a few used copies for under twenty bucks these days. If you don't, then hate yourself. Forever. I give Resident Evil 4 a 10/10. It's just that good.
ZOMFG I KNOW! hahah, ahhhh. Listen to "Alaskan Flounder Basket" from 00:15-00:34, that beats sounds fantastic. Especially the beginning little beat from 00:15-00:23. It reminds of another song, but I can't think of it for the life of me right now. The same applies to the final breakdown in "Ulrich Firelord" that start at 02:30-End ha. Regardless, it's all soo danceable/tear-upable hahah. And the video they have on their is just ridiculous. All of their songs are just fantastic, to be honest hah. Everything about them is just incredible for me right now. I think they're easily one of my favorite bands for the month as of right now. haha
I want to see them play so bad man... and that Inspector Gadget breakdown in "Ulrich Firelord" is just so classy. Also the novelty horn in "Smells Like Kevin Bacon". I love the stuff man. Its nice to see some deathcore/grindcore with a little sense of humor and what not. I love it. I added their vid to my myspace page because it was so "Tim & Eric Awesome Show"-cool.
iwrestledabearonce ohmygod. They're crazy good, awesome breakdowns, really chill parts during songs, and insanely random. Just listen and we'll all have some coffee and talk about them, haha. AND THEIR VOCALIST IS A GIRL, BUT SOUNDS BRUTE AS F**K. hahaha She sounds really good, I could go on. I'm really into them right now. Listen to every song completely that they have on their MySpace before coming to a judgment. I promise you, they are worth the listen.
I nearly sh^t my pants when I heard that dude.... wow... amazing... like seriously... They might take a top spot for me... thats crazy. That chick is brutal. I want her as my girlfriend just from the voice alone... I just love their whole theme and craziness and everything. Crazy awesome. Downloading time.
zomfg, I'm going to that too! Not all the way over in South Carolina mind you, haha, the one here in San Diego. I'm hoping to destroy in the pits they'll have, along with a few friends. Ahhhh, I can't wait. Especially for Born Of Osiris, Despised Icon, and ESPECIALLY Whitechapel. How dare you not post them Zen. How dare you. hahah
Alas, you are correct... I'm so dissapointed in myself. I guess I'll just have to throwdown extra hard to make up for it. That's the main reason why I'm super excited to go. I mean, I've thrown down alot. And the music is definetly the reason to go... But to throw down to "Bow Down" live? WHAT?! Skulls will be split by my flying spin kicks of death.
Zen, have you seen Born Of Osiris live? If you haven't, you should. ASAP. They sound perfect. You know how the majority of bands tend to sound somewhat different live, whether it be the vocals sound sh*ttier than on the CD, drums sound lame, guitar sounds too distorted, or whatever? Yeah, it's like you're listening to their CD, only it's live. INSANITY. And Knights Of The Abyss won't release "Shades" until 6/23/08 if I'm not mistaken. You must have seen links to make a Pre-order. ;D!
Summer Slaughter Tour 2008. June 30th. Spartanburg, SC at Ground Zero. Zen and a couple of buddies are going to that baby. I'm excited for the majority of the bands, but definetly AMPED to go see Born of Osiris, Despised Icon, The Black Dahlia Murder, and an AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING local death metal group, Tales of the Black Freighter (look them up on myspace, ****ing awesome). Yeah. I'm ready to see it go down.
Whitechapel- "This Is Exile" This just sounds like insane secks. Enough said, to be honest haha. The Irish Front- "Universe" They announced this CD like last year, and they're still working on it? wtfsauce. haha, the new songs they have on their MySpace sound sexy as hell though, so I suppose I can wait. hah Bring Me The Horizon- "Suicide Season" I'm quoting what I said on the 1st page, ha. I'm nervous for their next CD, on an interview with Kerrang! Magazine, Oliver described the new CD/sound as being " 'more rock than metal. It's heavy though, and sounds a lot more fatter and beefier. We've also done some mellower tracks too.' Oliver Sykes, vocalist, also states that this album will see the band 'moving away from the sound' of their first album." ;D!
Particularly "Suicide Season". Oh yes, oh yes. And while it hasn't been said yet, I'm sure it is inevitable... I'm ready to hear some more Born of Osiris. 20-something minutes isn't enough for me. I want to hear more, because I love those guys.
Zen, my friend... those clean vocals are everywhere in metalcore. Most metalcore bands carry on the whiny pop vocals, because it is a trend. None the less, listen to "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord", this album was more raw. Before pop vocals had grown so trendy in metalcore, I suppose.
Of course they are. I wasn't saying that Metalcore doesn't have clean vocals. On the contrary, the fact that I hadn't heard them use clean vocals was the reason why I thought The Devil Wears Prada wasn't a metalcore band, but rather hardcore. Believe me, I listen to Metalcore, one of my favorite bands right now are All That Remains and I'm also a small fan of Killswitch Engage. They use clean vocals often, so I understand that clean vocals are in metalcore. In fact I think for something to qualify as metalcore, there needs to be clean vocals at some point.
-
If you like The Black Dahlia Murder's vocals, definitely give me me Bring Me The Horizon a listen, both vocalists have very similar vocal styles. Especially as far as high screams go, both Oliver of BMTH and Trevor of TBDM have very high, raspy, throaty high screams, haha. And Zen, take a listen to both "Plagues" and "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord" by The Devil Wears Prada, and listen to all of their songs. If they aren't Metalcore at its finest, then I deserve to be punched right in the teeth. They are Metalcore though, so :p haha ;D!
Alright, I listened to the song "Hey John, What's Your Name Again" and I'll agree, there is some Metalcore in there with clean vocals and the opening riff. But still, the style of singing (more pop-punk than metal) and the frantic-ness of their guitars still make me think punk than metal. So I think Hardcore/Metalcore is agreeable, being that they have songs of both genres. As for Bring Me The Horizon, I personally think Oli Sykes has the best high vocals in the current scene, and yet he still has a pretty suprising range. He's definetly one of my idols when it comes to highs and mids. I love Black Dahlia also, but I like his voice because it's more definable and unique than anything. But yeah, "Pray For Plagues", "Tell Slater Not To Wash His Dick", and "For Stevie Wonder's Eyes Only" are some of my favorites by BMTH. Not to mention how awesome the video for "Pray For Plagues" is. Also, recently I started listening to a bit more Despised Icon. Man are they awesome. I really would like to see more dual vocals going like that. If they experimented with over-lapping and trade-offs more, they could really create a really unique sound.
-
I'm basing my judgement of genre on The Devil Wears Prada off of the songs "Reptar, King of the Ozone" and "Still Fly" off of Punk Goes Crunk. Those defintly don't sound metalcore to me. I suppose the lack of clean vocals and metal-like solos are what influence that. Or maybe its the fact that they catergorize themselves on MySpace as Hardcore above metal. But I suppose I can't make a fair judgement since I just started listening to them. As well, I just started listening to As Blood Runs Black. So I can't be all "lolz, you're right they are covering themselves" since I have no real point of judgement on it at this point. Right now, my top five is: Born of Osiris Winds of Plague Job For A Cowboy The Black Dahlia Murder Bring Me The Horizon. As far as I'm concerned, they are the best of the best next to the local scene that I got.

Cultural Cuisine Preferences?
Zen replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in General Discussion
Being the son of a Greek man, I have experienced Greek food as it was meant to be. Perfect. Gyros, I will agree, are amazing. But you ain't had nothing until you've had lamb on a spit, souvelakia, or chicken reganatto. Delecious. It's what I was raised on. to Greece and knowing several Greek families in America have definetly allowed me to experience the food best as possible. Next to that, I love Japanese food. The steakhouse meals are good and all, particularly the shrimp/steak combo. But I'm a huge fan of sushi and sashimi. My favorite type of food, I actually had some today in celebration of my graduation. Great stuff. Gimme a slice of fresh red tuna over rice with soy sauce over anything. I love me some Mexican food, particularly my favorite meal, Fajitas Texanas, which is pretty much a plate of sizzling win with tortilla on the side. Shrimp, steak, chicken, onions, green peppers, and other veggies still hot on a griddle. Awesome. Also I enjoy myself a good ol' Grilled Stuffed Burritto every now and again. Apart from those, I'm a fan of Chinese American foods, particularly General Tso's chicken, and Southern Cuisine such as fried chicken with mashed potatoes and brown gravy and Maurice mustard BBQ chicken. And don't get me started on some baby back ribs... beautiful. With pepperoni, it's the only time I'll break my no pork diet. That's all.
