IMO. Marijuana being illegal isn't doing much but putting people in jail. It doesn't deter the people who use it, and the people who don't do it probably wouldn't even if it were. I, in fact, am one of the few who don't do it because of it being illegal. I can't because I'm in the military, and there for, would be kicked out if it were revealed I had any in my system. But I probably wouldn't become a regular user to begin with anyways. I've never bought my own alcohol, and I don't smoke. Somehow I don't see myself becoming addicted. Millions of Americans have, or do, smoke pot, and without any REAL harmful effects. I can understand harsher drugs such as meth or crack which are literally poisonous, but pot is pretty much a cigarette that'll get you drunk. Alcohol is legal, cigarette's are legal. Pot isn't for illogical reasons I believe. It being illegal is just clogging our already crowded court systems and prisons. Jail and the courthouses should be reserved for rapists, killers, robbers, and the like. Not a bunch of confused, harmless pot-heads. That's my opinion.

I know that "Can You Suggest Any Good Hardcore" is already a thread similar to this in concept, but I wanted one where we could more openly discuss bands and such rather than just tossing out band names and such. Talk about bands we like in more detail, or talk about new bands, exchange bands that we've come to find and enjoy. Also, this broadens the spectrum of what can be discussed. Extreme Music is catergorized as forms of music that use elements that the average mainstream fan might find unappealing or even repulsive. Genres include hardcore punk, death metal, metalcore, grindcore, noise, and others. My favorite genres within the "spectrum" of Extreme music are: Hardcore Punk, which uses excessive speed in both drums and guitar playing along with scream and growl vocals. Notable bands for me are The Devil Wears Prada, Gallows, and Circle Jerks. Technical/Progressive Death Metal, which uses a more metal approach to the hardcore punk style with deeper growls typically and more technical guitar playing and very tricky, switch-tempo drumming. My notable bands include Tales of the Black Freighter and Opeth. Metalcore, which combines traditional metal riffing and solos with a combination of clean vocals and hardcore screaming and death metal growls. The drums are also along the level of Death Metal as well. Notable bands for me are All That Remains and Killswitch Engage. and my favorite of the genres, the one that I listen to more than the others... Deathcore, which is a complete combination of technical death metal and hardcore punk. The vocals are very, very rarely clean, and usually exclusively screams, growls, pig squeals, and other distorted forms of vocals. The instrumentation is almost always fast, technical, and brutal. Lyrics often center around horror, gore, violence, and generally edgy topics. Notable bands include Bring Me The Horizon, Job For A Cowboy, and Winds of Plague. Currently, my "extreme" play list is looking something like this (I'll go alphabetically): Abigail Williams All That Remains All Shall Perish Avenged Sevenfold (old) As Blood Runs Black Because of This Born of Osiris Bring Me The Horizon Bury Your Dead Dethklok Gallows Job For A Cowboy Maximum The Hormone Rise Against Senses Fail Suicide Silence Tales of the Black Freighter The Black Dahlia Murder The Devil Wears Prada The Irish Front Through the Eyes of the Dead WhiteChapel Whole Wheat Bread Winds of Plague With Dead Hands Rising I'm still discovering the genre, but I'm already an enormous fan and I'm attempting to train myself in the vocal style of deathcore. I love it. The music, the vocals, the 'dance'/mosh style. Great stuff. So lets discuss it all, shall we?

I recently downloaded a handful of new songs and artists. Notables include: Suicide Silence: a deathcore band for people who love deathcore already. It's not so much "special" as it is a great represenation of deathcore/death metal style. I like them alot. Their vocalist is amazing, and their songs are all "melt-your-face"-brutal. The Black Dahlia Murder: another deathcore/death metal band. Probably one of the most popular around, along with Bring Me The Horizon and Job For A Cowboy. They have a very strange, very cool vocal style, as well as a dope and weird sounding guitar duo. Not to mention how amazing their drummer is. Good stuff. Going to go see them next month at the Summer Slaughter Tour where they will be headlining. International Superheroes of Hardcore: A joke hardcore punk band comprised of the members of New Found Glory. Such songs as "Superhero Sellouts" and "Brush Your Teeth" let you know the kind of songs they will be singing. They are like the Superfriends of Hardcore bands. Fun stuff. Lil' Wayne: Tha Carter 3 is coming soon, so there are alot of great tracks floating around the ether. Recently, I've become obsessed with the song "A Millie" ft. Cory Gunz. Crazy awesome beat and sick flows are bountiful. Love me some Weezy.

The Old-School: When I was a kid, as in, birth through seven years old, I was fairly unaware of popular music. I listened to whatever my parents put on and enjoyed a varied mix. However, I showed an early appreciation for Hip Hop, and I would search for early-mid nineties Hip Hop records that my young mind could appreciate. My first favorite rappers were Coolio, LL Cool J, Will Smith and Snoop Dogg back when he had a 'Doggy' in the middle. My favorite songs growing up were "Gangster's Paradise" and "What's My Name". My father also engrained me with a life-long appreciation for classic rock and metal such as Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin, amongst others. Growing Pains: Around the ages of nine through 12, my musical tastes began to steer towards alternative rock, rap rock, and popular hip hop. I started to search for my own music and listen to things that my parents didn't (nor were they fans of it). My first bands were Smashmouth and early Kid Rock. On the Hip Hop front, Sisqo entered the line up and Nelly (which I now hate myself for). Then I began to slowly gravitate towards harsher music. The likes of Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, At The Drive-In, Eminem, DMX, and others began to show themselves. Over this time, however, I began to mature. Gorillaz, Blink 182, Rage Against The Machine, Daft Punk and Lenny Kravits joined the line up. I still listen to them, along with Eminem and DMX. Grew Up A Screw Up: From ages 13-16, things really matured. I dropped some of the "kid" bands that I liked, including Limp Bizkit and Smashmouth and began to mature my tastes in Hip Hop. I began to study the musical form and explore the roots, and the things I missed as a child. I started listening to alot of underground and burgeoning southern music as well. On the popular level, I listened to Dem Franchize Boyz, Ludacris, Lil' Wayne, and Lil' Jon, as well as Houston movement artists Slim Thug, Lil' Flip, Paul Wall, and Chamillionaire. As for the GOOD Hip Hop (which I still listen to 'till this day) I began listening to Tupac Shakur, Jay-Z, Beastie Boys, Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, KRS-One, and other early-mid-nineties MCs. I also developed a taste for underground and intrumental Hip Hop. MF Doom, Murs, Quasimoto, Danger Mouse, Invisibl Skratch Piklz, amongst others. Today: From 17 to the present, my tastes have matured even more than before. Being exposed to a more varied music scene has helped. Once I had moved to my current location, I connected with the local musicians of nearly every genre within a year. Hip Hop, Indie Rock, Death Metal, you name it, and I know a peforming musician within the genre more than likely. Currently, I'm trying to get some of my own music going. I've performed my own Hip Hop a few times on stage at a local venue, and I'm also trying to break into the Deathcore scene. As for the bands I started listening to, I began to get into alternative flavors. Indie Rock, underground and pop punk, folk, anti-folk, techno/house, hardcore, metalcore, Death Metal, and deathcore make up alot of my musical diet now-a-days along with the regular dosage of Hip Hop. I started listening to All That Remains, Born of Osiris, Winds of Plague, The Moldy Peaches, James Brown, Justice, Chromeo, Suicide Silence, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Hello Tomorrow, Set Your Goals, All Time Low, Senses Fail, The Black Dahlia Murder, Job For A Cowboy, Bob Dylan, Bloodline, Michael Jackson, Genghis Kahn, Despised Icon, and All Get Out, among others. I'm listening to such a broad spectrum of artists right now, its hard for me to focus on one for a very long amount of time. A song has to be very special for me to remember the lyrics to it. Currently I'm obsessed with "Reloaded" by Winds of Plague, "Bow Down" by Born of Osiris, and "A Millie" by Lil' Wayne. Most of my current diet, though, is majority Deathcore and Hip Hop. I have a thing for both genres I suppose, and I am burgeoning within both scenes currently.

So next week, on this day, I officially graduate high school and get pushed into the real world, alteast until I start college next year after my whole basic training/military training thing. Though it is unfortunate that I have to wait until 2009 to actually attend college, I will be taking courses under the military, so oh well. Anyways. Are there any other peeps graduating this year? Or am I the only one? How do you feel about graduating? Dissapointed? Excited? Scared?

Juno: I'm a huge fan of indie-comedies, and I am definetly a huge fan of Juno. It has a definite "Wes Anderson"-feel to it, but it still has its own spirit and uniqueness to keep it from being "Anderson-rip-off". Diablo Cody did amazing on the script, which kept me laughing for alot of the film. Michael Cera and Ellen Page are also two of the most convencing high school students I've ever seen, both physically and in attitude/swagger. I love the flick, and is one of my new favorites. Cody deserved the Oscar. Amazing. And so I leave you with "Pork Swords".

I've started listening to a underground deathcore band from L.A. called Winds of Plague who are simply awesome and one of my new favorite deathcore/hardcore/death metal bands now. My favorite songs by them are Decimate the Weak,Reloaded, and Anthems of Apocalypse. Great stuff indeed.

Ho, ho, ho, have I got a treat for you. One of my new favorite bands (ever), Winds of Plague. They are a very, very awesome Deathcore band. I suggest you check out the songs, my favorites, "Decimate the Weak" and "Reloaded". If they don't make you want to punch people in the face, then I don't know what will.
That's just my point, if you're skipping songs to get to a new set list you aren't beating every song on expert. If you want those bragging rights, you have to go back and play the song anyway! I guess I just always enjoyed playing through the game on Hard, beating it, and then attempting to beat Expert mode from the very beginning. Making a song isn't going to be anything special. You can't add vocals and I doubt it will have much depth at all, though I guess we'll have to wait and see. I haven't heard anything about design an instrument so I can't comment on that but as far as the create-a-character thing goes can they really improve on Rock Band in that department? I've had Rock Band for a solid 5 months now and my character is still changing. Tons of clothes/hairstyles/instruments/tattoos (which, in itself, is a blast) make for completely unique characters. I have never run into anyone online that looked even remotely similar to my character. Guitar Hero 3 had what? 10 characters to choose from? Of course their character creation is going to be considered a "re-enhancement." It didn't even exist in previous games. And what new controllers? So help me god if you mention the drum kit. That hardly counts as "new."
Well, as some people are already saying "fail" to a few of the songs, I don't see the problem in letting them skip the ones they don't want to beat. Regardless, all of them are going to be different in difficulty, and I'm sure there will be so many songs available that skipping songs won't even be a big deal. And again, if you want bragging rights, then you can get them, and if you're the person who's like "I don't really care, I just want to play this song without beating a handful that I hate" then you can. Like, it's very, very, very annoying that I can't play or even see "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" on Expert because... 1). I made the mistake of starting Guitar Hero 3 on Expert, and 2.) I can't beat the last, like, three songs on Expert, even though I beat the rest of the game. I don't want to go back all the way and beat the ENTIRE game again on hard or normal, just so I can see that one song. So if you are a player searching for bragging rights, then you can go right on ahead and beat every song and get your props. But if you are like me, where I play for both, but I want to play my favorite songs first, then you can. OR if you are just a casual player, you can go through out the set list and find the songs you like. While making a song may not be something special to regular fans, its obvious by the various hacker-songs all over the internet that there is a definite market for easy-to-use software. And so what if you can't add vocals? I'm sure that if you are dedicated enough to convert an entire song to the GH4 format, I'm sure you've atleast remembered the words to it, so if you and your buds want to do your version, tell your buddy to just put up with it. There are just too many legal issues with created songs using vocals, its self-protection that you can't blame Neversoft for, since they are allowing an online community for song sharing and apparently "signing" people who put up quality songs. So if me and my buddies decide to convert a version of "Bow Down" by Born of Osiris onto GH4, then I guess I'll just grab the mic and a lyrics sheet. Since there was some falling out between the Gibson name-brand and GH, the creators have decided to implement a "create-an-instrument" thing, where you can choose everything about the look and shape of your own custom guitar. And while I will admit that the Rock Band create-a-character is great, there is room for improvement, particularly stage moves, attitudes, and, with any luck, maybe even (real) band t-shirts, name brands, and etc. Also the hair styles, while some are great, are mostly terrible. It's either various degrees of normal length, or just freaking nutty. So while I'm not 100% on what GH4 is offering, for me, there is clear room for improvement on the create-a-character. Also, the GH4 has already gaurunteed detailed character movements, so I'm very happy about that. Luckily, my imagination is decent enough to create an original character myself, just as you have. But then again, that may be because my characters consist of God himself, and a Punk-Rock version of myself. But it'd make me no happier if I could give my character a hardcore fitted cap with b-ball shorts and colorful skater shoes like I actually wear, instead of super-tight jeans and converse, because that's the closest to normal clothes that are available. All the original characters are returning, also with inter-changeable costumes amongst themselves and cross-dressing aswell for some reason. And when I say new intruments, I mean re-designed ones. Along with the drums, which pretty much has an extra pad, the new guitars will have some mysterious new feature that Neversoft is keeping under tabs because they have yet to patent it. Apparently, however, it is going to change the way, or atleast, the possibilities, of which the guitar can be used and played in game. So while the controllers will be backwards compatible, the new guitar will somehow allow for an extra feature to be used while playing. So while GH4 is obviously copying the good qualities of Rock Band, as it would be foolish not to, they are also improving upon it and doing their own original things with it. So enough of your flim-flam.
...dude, you can do that in Rock Band. Save for eventually having to play every single song in a row if you want to beat the endless setlist (which I still haven't) you can easily fly through World Tour mode without ever playing crappy songs. As for single-player career mode, which is what I'm assuming you're referring to, I think the ability to skip songs is bullocks. Are you really beating the game if you can't bring yourself to beat every song on a certain difficulty? By allowing people to "cheat" they're taking away the whole "I finally beat Guitar Career on Expert!" thing. What? At what point in Rock Band does it ever make you play a song more than once? In Single-Player you play it once and that's it and in World Tour you can avoid playing certain songs entirely! I think Guitar Hero IV will be good. Heck, it will probably be great! But only because they're sticking with what works. They aren't bringing anything new to the table (although the touch-sensitive drum pads IS a nice addition, I'll admit).
See, I'm talking about the career mode, where, you beat a song, say, Mississippi Queen in one club as a bonus set or something, then you go to another club and Mississippi Queen is the first song I have to play. It has happened more than once to me. Also, there are ALOT of songs on Rock Band that I dislike playing, such as Long Time, which I was forced to play in order to get to the next set list on Expert (see, I don't play on any other difficulty, atleast on Guitar). As for the whole "I beat the game on Expert thing" it's just as good as saying "I beat every song on expert". I mean, you can play the entire game and set list on hard, normal, and easy, this is just making it where you don't have to do it over and over again until your at expert level for the song. IF you want, you can just go back, and re-beat the song on a higher difficult when you are ready, and if you are a beast, you'll beat all the songs on expert eventually, and I'm very, very sure, be rewarded for it. I don't see the difference other than it being a plus. They are also bringing the "make a song", "design an instrument", and enhancing the create-a-character, along with two new controllers.

I just finished reading a worn copy of American Gods by Neil Gaiman, setting him in concrete as one of my favorite authors ever, without a doubt. The book was by far one of the best reads I've ever had. The concept and story is just mind-blowing-ly interesting. The mix of serious drama, humor, and 'mythology' is really amazing. I loved every bit of it.
