No gun in the car, 50 shots from the cops, no punishment. Excessive force beyond anything else I've heard before. Has anyone else heard of this case?
2. I just watched Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street for the first time yesterday and loved it. I subsequently downloaded the soundtrack today. "These are the worst pies in London..."
3. Normally I will hop on, check out my PM's and answer anything of concern. Then I'll check the Lounge for the threads that I have posted in or for anything new and interesting. Then I'll check the Amphitheater for the same topics. After that I check the Auditions and Backstage like 8bit does for new RPGs or ideas and the Anthology as well for any replies to The Hit or Contracts. Then I'll either write something for The Hit or an RP I'm in. Then I usually repeat the process depending on new posts or conversations in my active threads. Normally I'll jump on atleast once a day unless I'm in the midst of one of my hiatuses. Usually, I'll keep OB on a tab while browsing during the night and check in every so often in between MySpacing and reading stuff on Wikipedia (or just watching TV, being that I have a laptop). So yup.
4. I've been getting into some Death Metal recently, particularly local acts around Columbia, SC such as Because of This and Tales of the Black Freighter (who's singer I've become friends with). Both are very good, and I enjoy my city's local sound more than others because of the emphasis Columbia's metal vocalists put on their deep, harsher vocals rather than the high-pitched, often annoying, screeches and screams popular else where. I've also become a fan of Born of Osiris, particularly the song "Bow Down". Apart from that, I've started to listen to more Johnny Cash, downloading a small cashe of his greatest hits after watching Walk The Line again. I'm impressed by the work he did near the end of his life. Songs like "Hurt" and "God's Gonna Cut You Down" really hit me well. I'm also enjoying some of his more classic songs like "Ring of Fire" and "Cocaine Blues".
5.
Donnie Darko This might be my new favorite movie. I loved the psychological aspect to it, which greatly reminded me of The Chumscrubber. Three of my favorite songs were used, as well: Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart," Gary Jules' "Mad World" cover, and my top favorite song of all time, The Church's "Under the Milky Way." The film's soundtrack was quite awesome as well, and now I feel inspired to write music in a similar fashion.
Funny thing, I also just watched Donnie Darko for the first time last week myself. I loved it for pretty much the same reasons you do. The philosophical and psychological aspects were great, and the whole metaphysics angle was interesting as well. Definetly shows the things possible with film story telling. I loved it, and it is also one of my new favorites.

The Hit 2

I'm sorry for the obscene hiatus, it's been a busy week for me. Enjoy. Chapter 27: Rest In Peace Gavin stood heaving through his clenched teeth, his armed raised stiffly, holding an automatic weapon in each hand. This was the man I'd grown to fear before he became my self-appointed guardian. I could feel his intent to kill in the air around him. "DIE!" he roared in a monstrous tone as he began to pull the triggers of his AK-47u's. A burst of bullets erupted from the barrels at the downed Joe, who's body reacted with surprising speed and agility. Leaping from the ground, he rolled and ducked behind a near-by steel mailbox while Gavin continued his onslaught. A feminine grunt directed my attention away from the current conflict, bringing my eyes to Erica and Raiha, who were in the midst of battle with Annie still. Both women dodged dead-aim shots from Annie with amazing agility and reflexes. Erica ran low to the ground and attempted a sweep kick at Annie, who jumped into the air in order to dodge before being assaulted by a flurry of needles up high by Raiha. The thin pins lodged themselves into her guarding forearms, but I knew immediately that once they had made contact, things were over for Annie. The poison would soon work it's way through her body. The immediate pain of the needles left her off guard, and Erica was able to land a more potent attack on her with a rising three-sixty turning kick into her midsection, a forceful blow that sent the woman tumbling across the ground in a heap. Both Erica and Raiha made their way to her, probably to finish the job. I was in no mood to watch her demise so I refocused on Joe and Gavin. Both were trading gunfire, Joe still hiding behind the mail box while Gavin simply stood out in the open, slowly approaching the steel box firing consistently. This provided me with an opportunity to sneak up on Joe while Gavin distracted him. I started to run to the far right on the side of a neighboring building and made my way quickly to Joe's cover. The clattering gunfire disguised my footsteps as I swiftly sprinted to his position with my blade drawn and ready. Sliding across the pavement to a stop, I leapt into the air as I came down onto Joe's position. His eyes widened as they looked up to me falling from the sky onto him, my blade pointed down in a stabbing position. Quickly leaping aside, he barrel-rolled into a kneeling firing stance and unloaded at the mail box, but I had already disappeared. I fell from the air once again, this time my sword was raised high over my head, and coming slowly down onto the assassin. He wasn't fast enough this time, and my sword slashed him across the collar-bone and chest diagonally, causing gore to spill onto the pavement as he leapt back. The cut was deep, but he was saved from death by his last jump. This didn't help him escape danger, however, as Gavin was already behind him, aiming his gun into his back. Joe's instincts served him well, though, and he quickly spun around and brought a harsh elbow across Gavin's face. Both men were disarmed from the impact, the four heavy Russian fire arms falling to the ground. Joe continued his hand to hand assault on Gavin, showing off surprising close-quarters skills as he unleashed short punches and knees onto vital points all over the giant man's body. I ran into the fight myself, but Joe had been expecting this, and spun his body around Gavin, keeping me from using my blade on him. As I hesitated, he pushed Gavin's body onto me, causing me to also drop my weapon. I felt another huge push as he lunged forward with a front kick and knocked both of us down with his brute strength. As I lay with Gavin's heavy body on top me, I looked up to see Joe coming down onto us, airborne with both knees pointed towards Gavin's back. Then, as if in a flash of lightning, Gavin's body jerked forward onto his hands, and bringing both legs into the air, he double mule-kicked Joe back with amazing force. Continuing through the motion, he stood back up, and ran towards Joe while he recovered. He brought a heavy leg across Joe's side as he landed, causing the man to tumble to the side. However, he did a fast kip up and was back on his feet, going at Gavin once again. Gavin leaned forward into a heavy straight right, but Joe's martial skills showed still, as he dodged and grab tightly onto the arm with both hands before heaving his body upside down, hanging from the arm and bringing it in between his legs. A flying armbar, I couldn't believe it. Gavin's strength held him suspended for a long moment, and it looked as if he were about to powerbomb Joe onto the concrete. But Joe jerked his body sharply back, arching his spine and flexing all his body's muscles. A sickening sound resonated through the air as he dislocated Gavin's elbow. Gavin's face showed no expression of pain, but we all knew that his was in trouble. Joe released the arm and landed back onto his feet and brought his boot up again to kick him. However, Gavin's dexterity and endurance shined through and he instinctively caught the kick with his left arm. Joe's expression was surprised and I instantly knew now was the time to end it. Throwing myself across the battle-ridden courtyard, I arched my sword across my shoulder and with a growling war cry, I brought the blade across and through Joe's neck. My body landed several feet away from the two, but a loud thump on the concrete followed by the crumpling of a body let me know my job had been done. Not a second later, Annie came rolling across the ground. She layed onto her back splayed out and helpless, her body now limp from the poisons circulating through her veins. Tears ran down her face as she looked upon Joe's decapitated body and I saw her mouth begin to speak his name as she wept, but a foot dropped down onto her throat, effectively killing her instantly. Erica stood over her triumphantly as she removed her shoe from the dead woman's neck. Raiha walked up to the dead woman and began to collect the several needles sticking out of her body. It was over. The Riot was dead. We'd won.
8. I'm liking two models so far. I like Shy's model if we are going for the pre-existing music stuff like "Across The Universe", but I'm also up if anyone wants to do a "create-your-own-lyrics" thing too. But yeah, I guess it just depends what people want to do. I like both builds.
9. The Moldy Peaches: a quaint little anti-folk band/duo(?) who sing old-styled folk-blues types of songs with self-parodying and goofball lyrics such as "Who's got the crack?" and "...A, B, Select Start. Just because we use cheats doesn't mean we ain't smart." Fun stuff, they were featured heavily in the "Juno" soundtrack, but it was a recent crush who turned me onto them. Killa Army: a sub-set group of Wu-Tang Killa Bees (basically related artists or label mates) who take the Wu-Tang rawness and kung-fu style and add an extra layer of lyrical complexity and flow to the normally harsh Wu-Tang Clan style. I like them ALOT. Particularly the songs like "5 Stages of Conciousness" and "Wu Renegades". Maximum The Hormone: as Korey said, they did the Death Note second season opening and closing titles, though I listen to some of their other stuff. I enjoy their hard-rock/hardcore approach, which blends near-metalcore style with hard rock. Dir En Grey: I'm a little late to the party, I know. I'm just sorta giving them a listen lately, downloaded a few of their songs and seeing what I dig. So far they are pretty interesting. I like them better than Manson, if that says anything. Though I hate Manson. FLOW: Did a handful of anime theme songs, including my second favorite next to FLCL "Days" from Eureka Seven. Good for anytime I want to listen to something really, really wussy and Maroon 5 ain't cutting it.
10.
I hope I'm not too OT, or getting too personal, but... @ Zen: From your service and experience in the military, are the majority of people in service from lower-income classes? Of course I've heard this, and I've always found it interesting, but it'd be great to get first-hand views from someone in the military.
It's a mixed batch. My father came from a relatively high class family then living in Greece. He moved to America (where he was born and raised for the most part) to make a life for himself rather than working for his parents. He ended up joining the Marines, and has been a career soldier since. Though, admittedly, my father didn't have much of an education, he gained one through the military in the medical field, where he became an orthopedic technician eventually. I myself, come from a middle class family, though I was raised in the lower class progressively to where I am now. And some people come from high class and end up as officers, others are lower class, so its no way really to predict. though I do admit that the military offers good ways to raise up from the lower class, it should also be noted that any kind of criminal record prior to joining makes it VERY difficult to join. So yeah, its a mix bag I suppose. I was raised military also it should be noted, my entire life.
11. Being that I'm unfamiliar with Captain EO, but very familiar with Thriller, I'd prefer that. I think the horror/action genre would provide itself to interesting opportunities and fit itself along with the songs better in the modern era anyways, rather than forcing his songs onto a sci-fi setting. I like the idea of maybe an Underworld type of thing, or something with a similar premise with his songs added. I think the albums Bad and Thriller would provide themselves well to that, especially if it took place in a modern era.
12.
uh, high. um. i'm kinda new here....so.......um, phew. are you serious? i can't believe people can be so close when they don't even know each other. question. will i come to love evryone like this. p.s. whoever started this, are you leaving. i don't even know you, but (sniff) your message really touched me, i cant hold it in anymore!:animecry:
Well, personally friend, I've known most of my OB people for several years now, and a great deal of my life. So I've grown reasonably close to them on a personal level.
13. No, no. We gotta, GOTTA, do an extension or story based around Thriller if we do the Michael Jackson theme. Shy, I'll work with you if Roxas isn't down with creating this.
14.
Perhaps we could do it like Across the Universe, or Mamma Mia! We could select a series of real songs from a single artist (or various ones, but they would need to share something in common) and juxtapose it with a story. My immediate recommendation is the work of Michael Jackson. No, I'm serious. -Shy
That's actually a pretty awesome idea. I love Michael Jackson's music, personally, and I'd be down with doing a story with his music. This might actually start up a new genre of RPs on OB where different music and genres are used, heh. I'd be up with the MJ RPG, though.
15.
While Sandy's intial comments were a bit overstated (in my opinion), I think there is some truth to them. Let's not fool ourselves here. The armed forces kill civilians during wartime -- both intentionally and unintentionally. To say otherwise would be a ridiculous denial of recorded fact. I know the US Army has carpet bombed residential areas, shot all on sight, taken no prisoners more than just once (to say nothing of the situation in Iraq). The incidents that make it to the news with a soldier killing a family are not isolated or "bad apples" -- a lot of the time, they are indicative of a systemic devaluation of human life that might be intrinsic to the armed forces. On the other hand, I'm absolutely unwilling to say the armed forces are all cold-blooded murders and rapists who have zero regard for human life. There are countless good men and women doing what they believe to be the moral thing. I respect this greatly. I know that without our volunteer army, I wouldn't be able to enjoy my rights, my nation couldn't be protected. I express the sincerest gratitude for this service.
Boy, o'boy, I sure hope you count me in as the second group.... I mean, my primary goal in the military is to avoid killing somone, and I'm sure the people who work in supply or the medical field within the military are focused on that goal. My primary duty is paralegal after AIT, and after college, I want to be a psychologist with the Military and heal the kind of mental wounds that battlefield experiences create. The military is a necessary thing for society, I believe. But I think the military should be used as a way to protect one's country rather than invade others, which is a primary reason why I disagree with our involvment in Iraq currenty (not that taking out Saddam Hussein was a bad thing). But my primary goal is to aid the military and the soldiers who fight for the country. I think that's noble enough.
16. Well, I think, as lame as it does sound, I can relate to what you're saying. I've known my OB friends longer than any of my real life friends due to my moving alot over my life time. Retribution (Alex), silpheedpilot (Joe), Dragon Warrior (Gavin), and Gavin (Gavin) are like brothers to me, and I'm certain we would be just as good freinds as we are online. I've known Alex and Joe for a good part of a decade, and the Gavins have been good buddies of mine for about two years now. Raiha (D'Ann), Revelation (Erica), Sakura (Mary), and Ezekial (Jamie) are like sisters to me to the same degree. And while I have some friends I've made and lost on OBs, and I miss most of them. Even the ones that I didn't know as well. DeadSeraphim, PoisonTongue, and wristcutter particularly were all interesting people, whom, while I didn't talk to them often, I did enjoy reading their input on topics. I still value everyone as a freind regardless, all the various personalities and characters. I respect everyone's opinion, and I'm interested in hearing it. So group hug to all the OB peeps whom I've grown to know I guess.
17. Well, being that I can compose beats on my computer, and my best musical talent is writing rap lyrics, I think my originality won't be a problem as long as it is taken that my character has a general Hip Hop form when he makes his songs. So I can post, like, my character, my lyrics (unfortunately I can't record myself), and my own original beats for my songs, and the modified tracks when I join in songs for my character's bit. And with the OB Band, I don't think we'll have much trouble making up music. Or we could just use YouTube if we got lazy. I think it might be cool if we take more of a "war torn" approach, because I don't know many musicals who's characters are like, warriors or whatever. Battle ballads and what not, war songs and dances, it'd be kinda cool. Maybe take kind of a Samurai Champloo approach where the musical genre is transposed over the setting, I think it'd be interesting. That's my two cents.

19. Being a huge fan of the movie Hairspray I can definetly dig the idea of an Otakuboards Musical. Let's just not let this go the way of High School Musical, and I'm down.
20. Wow, that's really awesome, I appreciate it. I love it, haha.
21. The dark saloon was dim, light coming in only from its open windows. Several unlit candles sat on the tables and inside ceiling-hung lanterns through out the mostly wooden establishment, waiting to be lit later in the evening once the sun set. Kent sat alone in a shadowy corner, a short mug on the table in front of him, still filled with the ale he'd ordered upon entering. His wide-brimmed hat was cocked forward, covering his brow and casting a shadow over his eyes. He sat with his arms folded underneath his poncho, in a posture that looked as if he'd fallen asleep. Still no one approached him, as his still body gave off a foreboding aura to the busy and boisterous people surrounding him. Beneath the darkness covering his eyes, Kent followed each individual carefully, his ears tuned in acutely to the conversations being held. Words of past accomplishments, drunken tirades and complaints about catching the clap from local prostitutes polluted the air. Still, he selectively cut through the garbage and tried to hear any loose talk about the man he was hunting. Clark Winslow. A man Kent had yet to see in Lore stepped through the shudder-door, his boots clunking heavily on the creaking wood. He was armed with two pistols on each hip, however, he walked in an unthreatening manner. His face held a friendly expression as he approached the bar and laid his hands down on the top. "Hey, barkeep! Any chance a thirsty man could get some water here?" "Mr. Winslow!" the barkeep shouted out happily, Kent's eyes widened and his head raised up. "Water you say?" "Yessir." Winslow pulled a stool up to the bar and hunched himself down onto it, then withdrew a canteen which he slid to the bartender. The bartender turned around and began to prepare the drink for him, and spoke from his back, "So, how's Lore treatin' ya so far, Mr. Winslow?" Kent raised from his seat, and picked up his mug. He took a deep drink from the ale before placing back on the table. He recrossed his arms beneath his poncho and made his way across the bar towards the man named Winslow. "It's been alright, sir. People are kind enough, treat me well. I think I might settle for a bit." the bartender slid the canteen across the bar to Winslow, he raised it up with a smile before taking a deep drink. "Ah, now that hits the spot, I tell you.." Kent stopped behind Winslow and stood for a moment, looking into the back of his head. "Clark Winslow..." he said. "That's the name, honcho." Clark turned around in his seat and laid his eyes on Kent. "What'll it be, Redman?" "I've come here to kill you." Kent spoke with an intimidating tone, purposely. "Let's step outside." "Well, sir..." Clark's hands whipped across his hips like lightning and brought his two pistols up, aimed squarely at Kent, who just as quickly had pulled his own massive Model 29 up, aimed at the outlaw's head. "Why don't we give these people a show?" Clark said with a devilish smirk.
22. Mr. Dance-A-Lot was bestowed upon me by a classmate who still calls me that to this day due to my ability to dance, and my enjoyment of the activity. Karate Choppin'/Kung Fu Mike was given to me by several people, either Kung Fu or Karate Choppin' followed by my name. Comes from my martial arts skills and my ability to fight I guess. I think it's funny. Mikey comes from my family, to distinguish me from my father, also named Michael/Mike. Mk Zen my Hip Hop name, used for B-boying, graffiti, and rapping. Half-self established, however, other people still call me it, even when I'm not doing one of the previous activities, so its a nickname I guess. White Chocolate, a name given to me back when I played basketball, it just kinda stuck. Affleck, or Ben Affleck, as Dragon Warrior used to call me due to my unobvious resemblance to the actor. We used to be somewhat of a writing team, referring to one another as "Damon and Affleck" of the OBs, in reference to the two actors writing "Good Will Hunting" back in the day.
23. So, Sasuke basically just wasted his and everyone else's time, invariably led to the death of several people who could have lived, and abandoned all his friends and his home just to kill a guy who was actually trying to help him and everyone else. Good job, emo boy. I think the next chapters might end up being like Kakashi Gaiden with Itachi instead.... that'll be cool I guess.
