1.
I could never get into BTMH or Architects. I'm really, really into mathcore, but as for deathcore...meh, it's a genre I've only found a few choice gems in, personally. As for what I've been listening to, it's been a lot of progressive metal, metalcore, mathcore, progressive rock (new and old), experimental rock, post-rock, post-hardcore and melodic death metal lately. On the prog rock side, I've been listening to Coheed and Cambria a LOT recently; not only are they my favorite prog rock band, but they're my favorite band in general. I've also been listening to some Mars Volta, Pink Floyd, Circa Survive, The Dear Hunter, King Crimson, and 3. As for progressive metal, Between the Buried and Me. Between the Buried and Me. Between the Buried and Me. Misery Signals. Between the Buried and Me. Mathcore-wise, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Protest the Hero, The Human Abstract, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, The Number 12 Looks Like You, and Norma Jean are all good bands I've been listening to recently. All great examples of the genre, too. Metalcore isn't a genre I really enjoy, but Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying are guilty pleasures. Experimental rock gives light to The Fall of Troy, Fear Before the March of Flames, Thrice, and The Sound of Animals Fighting, all of which I've been giving listen to in the past couple of days. Post-rock bands I've been listening to are 65daysofstatic, Explosions in the Sky, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Post-hardcore is such a hard genre to narrow down and multiple bands I've already listed could be considered post-hardcore, but I really felt I should list The Blood Brothers and At the Drive-In, two really good bands I haven't tired of yet. Melodic death metal-wise, Amon Amarth, The Black Dahlia Murder, Arch Enemy, Mors Principium Est, In Flames, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, At the Gates... I listen to way too much ****ing music.
You confuzzle me. You lsiten to Black Dahlia Murder AND Killswitch Engage AND Misery Signals AND BTBAM AND The Human Abstract, but you don't like any deathcore or much metalcore? How do you feel about ABACABB? They kinda straddle deathcore/mathcore. Also Ion Dissonance. How about August Burns Red? Also, have you ever heard of At The Throne Of Judgement?
  2. I've been listening to alot of overseas heavy music. Parkway Drive's songs "Boneyards" and "Carrion" are my current 'play and replay' songs. I'm also slowly becoming familiar with Architects from England, a mathcore band, probably one of England's best. I can't help but see them as the friendly rivals of Bring Me The Horizon. Like Gary Oak to Ash Ketchum. Only with super heavy hardcore bands.
  3.
You know Zen, I'm beginning to believe Oli may just be the best vocalist for his genre. His vocals in Count Your Blessings were really good, and they're even better in Suicide Season. So I can't wait to see what the next CD is going to dish out. As for his vocals being vicious, I can agree. I love the emotion in his vocals. In my opinion the song Suicide Season is one of the best examples of the emotion he puts into songs. The same can be said for This Sadness Will Never End. Also, No Need for Introductions, I've Read About Girls Like You on the Backs of Toilet Doors is one of the most amazing song names ever.
The way he switches between different scream styles on the entire Suicide Season album is amazing to me. He does a really amazing Frank Carter-style old school hardcore yell, his signature, vicious highs and some damn brutal lows. With the exception of clean vocals he has the most range out there. So I agree, he is the best of the best when it comes to screams. Other favorites include Leo Miller from Animosity, Jeremy McKinnon from A Day To Remember, and Mitch Lucker from Suicide Silence. I have alot of idols.
  4.
You're lookin' good, Mike. & I'm fairly certain that tattoos are bomb. I have four little ones. This is the newest:
Much appreciated. Yeah, my chest piece cost a little over $300 and I'm out of cash now. I told my parents that from now on, if they want to get me any kind of gift, just give me a tattoo fund. I'm hoping my next will be the start of my right arm sleeve.
  5.
Stuff all you hipsters enjoy.
Me, you, Jabberwocky, Nomurah!, and Botar are what you would call "in the scene".
  6.
Thanks here is the rest. Oh and Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, Starbucks.:animestun Well this is it. Almost. I have seven more but really love the fish and skulls.
You just got like, a collection of small tattoos? Anyways, here's some new ones: I got the jersey at Vans Warped Tour. It was beast. I've since had a hair cut.
  7. I hate to say it, but I do often. But that doesn't top the time that I watched my Sergeant text while behind the wheel of a military humvee. Respect.
  8.
What genera is Abigail Williams? Also, good to see we meet eye to eye, Have you tried ska out? You might dig it, I do.
I file Abigail Williams (and band I discovered very shortly before their big break) as somewhere between Behemoth and Black Dahlia Murder, so... Blackened Deathcore, hahahaha. I tried out a little Ska. There's not to much that I'm really, really into. I mean, I liked No Doubt when they were out, they're kinda ska-ish. I downloaded a bunch of Less Than Jake, Big D and the Kids Table, and Streetlight Manifesto after I heard that Less Than Jake were doing horns on Four Year Strong's cover of "Spiderwebs" by No Doubt, which is excellent. Speaking of Four Year Strong, are there any fans here? Pioneers in the happy hardcore/pop-punk genre. They are amazing. They just released a new album called "Explains It All" which is cover album filled with big singles from the nineties that influenced them.
  9.
Anyone listen to post hardcore any more?
Lots. Glassjaw anyone? Or how about some Alexisonfire and A Skylit Drive? And yes, Jabber, Oli Sykes is definetly one of the best, if not the best, screamers/vocalists in music ever. His range is basically untouchable. And he just puts out such a vicious vibe. It can't be described in any other way... just vicious.
  10.
...Bring me the Horizon... P.S. Suicide Season is an awesome album.
This is truth. Nobody has their sound. Nobody.

    Hip-Hop
Get the album "The Minstrel Show". Classic stuff. I know you asked for songs but this is somewhat of a concept album, and definitely worth it. Holy ****. I'm a huge hip-hop head and I managed to miss this somehow. Thanks for posting. incredible. Anyway, people just checkin in to say get ready for Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Lynx 2. It's finally coming out in Sept. and the single "Wu Ooh" is great. Throwback to the Wu's golden days.
I used to be a huge hip hop head. Though since I started listening to hardcore and metalcore and stuff like that, I've kinda also stopped listening to hip hop as much. But I still have a huge knowledge and repitoire of hip hop artists, popular, classic, and underground, and on the history of hip hop.
  12.
You tell me if you met the biggest inspiration in your life if it wouldn't, at least, be one of the greatest days of your life.
Nah man, it's just funny playing that series of events out in my head. I'm happy for ya, bro.
  13.
Went and saw Maylene & the Sons of Disaster in concert on friday in Omaha, Nebraska, and they killed it. KILLED IT. Met Dallas Taylor, the lead singer and my inspiration for singing. I was giddy as a girl and as I turned to leave I stopped, spun around and said; 'Hey, Dallas?' He looked up and said; 'Yeah?' I responded; 'This is the greatest day of my life.' He laughed.
Wow, Joe.... really? Hahahaha.
  14. Brick killed a guy.
  15. Maximum The Hormone Dir En Grey Polysics FLOW The Pillows The Loudness Orange Range
  16. These two songs, on like, repeat. (BTW- neither are as long as the videos, they are just messed up)
  17.
Lets just say a little movie called Tropic Thunder, worst piece of **** to ever rape my mind. Also, Jack Black acted, looked, and was a complete ***. Oh, and to top things off, I ban any comment made about Christopher Walkens that is bad, exept for when he played in Balls of Fury, which sucked, but thats the only movie you can bash him in.
I'm going to assume you have no sense of humor. Anyways. Um, I really, really, really didn't like the movie A Walk To Remember, basically a film made for cheap tears, the worst kind of chick flick barely above the level of Lifetime channel movies. I basically all movies like that.
  18.
lulz, Underoath? Define The Great Line was a great cd, they're utter sh!t live though. No idea why they got mentioned in this thread though, haha
Their early work was and is considered deathcore/metalcore, I don't see what else one would consider them other than maybe post-hardcore. But whatever. I picked up Suicide Silence's new CD, No Time To Bleed and I am very pleased. While not every song is necessarily original when compared to the songs on the CD, Suicide Silence's sound is extremely original and it's own amongst the extreme music scene. Goodness it is.
  19. What the **** is a Transformers 2?
  20. I've been getting really into underOATH recently, particularly the songs "When The Sun Sleeps" and: I'm super excited to seem them at Warped Tour, along with A Skylit Drive, A Day To Remember, Attack Attack!, and many others. It's going to be super beast.
  21. Well I'm going to Warped Tour, so suck it! But Despised Icon, while I'm not a big fan of them usually, put on a freaking amazing live show. I saw them at Summer Slaughter Tour last year and had my mind blown.
  22.
I just recently started getting slightly into WFAHM... Good stuff. Have you heard TDWP's new album, Zen? It's by far the best, quite different than the one prior to it. By the way, check out Her Demise My Rise. They're amazing. You'd like the song "Straight In Your Throat"... The opening line of it is: "I'm cumming straight in your throat!"
Hahaha, yeah, because there's nothing I like better than sexually explicit lyrics screamed at me. I'll check 'em out. I bought I bought The Devil Wear's Prada's new album like, the week it cam out sir, and I agree, haha. As for you, just listen to Decapitated. Over and over again. Especially the songs "Spheres of Madness" and "Three Dimensional Defect". Straight, brutal, Polish death metal.
  23.
Hence the name and the two genres listed people... Saw Emmure Wednesday night. Was beautiful. I like Veil of Maya, boothten. Considering most of the bands you pointed out as generic don't sound alike other than yes, they use breakdowns, considering that's a big part of what metalcore and deathcore is... I'm sure you havn't heard most of them. If you want technical stuff, the best technical deathcore band is probably Born of Osiris.
You are correct sir. Also War From A Harlot's Mouth.
  24.
I regret nothing.
Every time I hear that phrase I think of Gazpacho from Chowder.
  25.
Which part?
The part where you watched The House Bunny.
