So far i've watched up through episode 10 of [W-F]'s subs and i would say it's still worth keeping up with. when i watched episode 9 i had kinda thought the series had hit a low point with the entire episode just focusing on Harima sulking and being depressed, but then i watched episode 10 and it seems like they had picked it up again, the whole thing with the animal fortune telling and the curry shop was hilarious. It looks like they just released episode 11 too, so we'll see how that one goes.

In Bleach, (manga, not the anime) there are several instances that make me almost tear up. First off the "Memories In the Rain" chapters in vol. 3 really hit me, where Ichigo
reflects on the death of his mom and how his life and the lives of his family members completely changed after those events and how he blamed himself for it. also the second Memories in the rain chapter later in the series involving Rukia and the death of Vice Capt. Kaien was really impactful.
Though when they did that scene in the anime, it really didn't have the same kick that it did in the manga. Another part that kinda made me tear up was in vol. 13, I pretty much hated Zaraki Kenpachi at first, but after
his fight with Ichigo when he was on the verge of dying and it flashbacked to his past and how he was alone and nameless his entire life until he met Yachiru when she was just an orphen, and named her "after the only person he ever loved". my aspects of him completely changed and he's one of my favorites now.
And lastly in vol. 15 when Hinamori
practically looses her mind after the murder of Capt. Aizen and forces herself to fight Capt. Hitsugaya until her hands bleed from holding her sword so tightly.
that scene really got me. theres tons of other great scenes in the series, but i'll just stop there.

I really liked episodes 11 & 12. they seemed to stay very true to the manga and i think Ishida's character was pulled off pretty well. I also thought
the scene with Chad and his fight with the hollow was spectacular, it helped give a much deeper look into his character and it just looked really cool :D

I'm having trouble getting a handle on Ishida.
He has a real chip on his shoulder, obviously.[/spoiler']
I agree that at first Ishida appears to be just a pompus ***, but the reasoning behind his actions will be revealed soon and his character develops really well as the series goes on.

A friend of mine turned introduced me to this series a few weeks ago, and after watching the first couple episodes I became hooked. I couldn't find any existing threads for School Rumble so I thought i'd go ahead and start one. The general plot for this series seemed fairly run-of-the-mill at first sight, dealing with an average Japanese high school and the students and their various 'crushes' and i was kind of reluctant to get into it at first. But characters in this show is what hooked me. All of the characters in this show are extremely diverse and have their own little hillarious quirks, after just a few episodes Tenma Tsukamoto is already one of my favorite characters in anime. I guess one of the best ways to describe this series is that it's like a combination of Love Hina and Azumanga Daioh, so if you're a fan of either i would highly recommend it. Anyway, has anyone else been watching this series? your thoughts/opinions on it?

I was raised as a Christian but hated the religion throughout my entire childhood, my mom is native Japanese (she moved here when she was 20) and my dad is from Georgia (very heavily christian area). when my parents split up my mom ditched the christian religion and so did i. following my mom, i align myself to the Bhuddist faith now.

wow, i thought the average would be older than 11-15. anyways im 19

i pretty much buy everything off of EBay, dvds don't usually get much higher than $20-22 brand new. although i did pre-order the Samurai Champloo vol. 1 w/box off AnimeNation for $30, they occaisionally have some good deals.

If you're looking for an Action/Drama series i would recommend Neon Genesis Evangelion (still my all-time favorite), Last Exile, Tenjou Tenge, Samurai Champloo, Ghost in the Shell, Noir and of course Cowboy Bebop. For Comedy, Azumanga Daioh is hands down the best there is. some other good series' are Love Hina, Mahoromatic, School Rumble and Girls Bravo. For Romance/Drama some great series' are Ai Yori Aoshi, Chobits, Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, and Koi Kaze. (i guess Love Hina can fit under this catagory as well) and for some completely bizarre but still very good series' FLCL (furi kuri) is great as well as Serial Experiments Lain. hope that helps.

i dunno about a series/movie with a christmas theme, but many series' will do christmas episodes or specials. to name a few: Love Hina did a special, Mahoromatic had a christmas episode, so did Azumanga Daioh and Ai Yori Aoshi. I dont think most of the more serious or action oriented series' will do christmas themed shows though. If you're looking for a good christmas anime to get into a christmasy mood, i would suggest the Love Hina special, i havent watched it in a while but i remember it being really good, in fact i think i'll go watch it myself now.

Gaming How to ruin a perfectly good match (Xbox Live-Halo 2)
QuincyArcher replied to Muad'Dib's topic in Noosphere
This topic reminded me of an old PA comic, it pretty much sums it all up. http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2004-03-19 -
hmmm... i've watched Neon Genesis Evangelion countless times. Cowboy Bebop twice, Azumanga Daioh 4-5 times, Love Hina countless times, Chobits 4-5 times, FLCL twice, Mahoromatic countless times, Last Exile 3 times, and Ai Yori Aoshi 4 times.

i just watched episode 10 and i thought it was actually pretty good too. Although there was a really good chapter focusing on kon that takes place after the whole grand fisher story that was completely left out of the anime, so im kind of bummed out about that. and to straighten things out, in the original japanese manga its pronounced "Bo-hahaha" not "Bwahaha" as lunar put it, that kind of annoyed me. As for Don Kanonji. His character was spot-on from the manga, even the voicing was exactly how i would have expected it so that was really nice. but as for what you were saying dagger
Don Kanonji actually does not appear again in the series except for one very small part, which will probably be left out of the anime since it appears they are jumping straight into Ishida's chapter.
Im really getting psyched about the next episode though since Ishida is finally going to show up, i just hope his character is done right because he happens to be my favorite character in the series (if you havent noticed by now).

In almost all of the cases where i have both read the manga and watched the anime. i tend to like the manga much better just because the story is much richer and the characters are usually much better developed because they're not limited to 30 minute episodes to squeeze everything in. some good examples of this are Love Hina, Chobits, FLCL, Bleach and Neon Genesis Evangelion. but occasionally i do find that the anime is much better as well. For instance i think that the Azumanga Daioh anime is stellar, it's one of my favorites. but the manga is kinda lackluster i think mainly because the manga is broken up into 4-block chapters which makes it a bit hard to follow at times or just not enough substance there.

Well when i said the outcome will probably be vastly different from the manga, i was right for the most part. I really dont like how the anime handled the situation with
ichigo's mom as well as how the fight with grand fisher ended. and i still don't get that new shinigami character either. (most of what he says and does contradicts a lot of things relating to the shinigami as well as some very major events that happen later in the series.)
but i think most of the events from this episode played out much better in the manga. Though one thing i really did like was how they portrayed
grand fisher's character, they did a great job of making him appear very evil and creepy like you said dagger.
just watched episode 8 and im not sure i like where they're going with it.
i don't understand the point of throwing in this new shinigami character. if anything it just seems like they're putting him to fill space in the episodes at the expense of tons of great scenes that were cut in the transition from manga to anime.
but its already starting to look like the outcome will be vastly different from the manga. which i guess isnt necessarily a bad thing, but we'll have to wait and see.

the series is 14 episodes long. i would say if you've already watched the several episodes you might as well finish it, its not horrible but its not great either. several things are left unexplained and the ending just leaves you saying "why the hell did he do that?!" but all in all i'd say its worth watching if you have an interest in finding out what happens.
I thought the first three episodes were exciting and dramatic, with beautiful animation and a decently likeable cast. But as the series progressed, I found it increasingly difficult to watch. Previously sympathetic characters--most notably Mitsuki and Takayuki--became painfully weak-willed and annoying. For some reason, I had eventually had trouble identifying with anyone at all.
I just finished the series, and i completely agree with that. i thought the first few episodes were stellar. but then the series just kinda starts to drag on, and you just start feeling sorry for everyone and it doesnt go anywhere. the ending was incredibly disappointing too. i would say if you're looking for some other romantic/comedy type anime along the same lines as this one (but not as dull as Kimi ga Nozomu), i would highly recommend Ai Yori Aoshi. i thought that series was superb from beginning to end with excellent characters and the perfect mix of drama and comedy.
Anyway, who here knows who Renji is? My friends love this series, but when i told them about Renji and
Rukia's brother[/spoiler'], they practically had question marks above their heads.
I've been reading the mangas for a little over 2 years now and have read up through mid volume 17. (as far as manga-rain has covered) and as for Renji, hes probably one of my favorite characters. he has one of the coolest swords in the series IMO, especially his
ban kai
Anime Music: Does it really "Make or Break" a show?
QuincyArcher replied to Sol-Blade's topic in Otaku Central
i think that good music could really make a series, but i dont necessarily think bad music would break it. for instance series' like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Evangelion & Noir rely failry heavily on music and it really helps the show out a lot. but i dont think i can name a series where the music alone ruined it. -
Just watched ep 7 (many thanks to Dan Rugh for informing me) and it was ok. Though the "memories in the rain" chapter from the manga was one of my favorites and it was almost completely cut from the show except for a tiny bit of it. hopefully they will cover all of it in the next episode. and the end of the episode kinda blew me away
i have no idea who this new shinigami being sent to "investigate" Rukia is, he never showed up in the manga. it was actually Renji and Byakuya who show up later in the series to investigate Rukia's whereabouts
so im wondering how that will effect the outcome of the show. I also liked that Ishida made an appearance if only for 5 seconds.

I own both the manga's as well as the dvd set. and although both rank up there among my favorites i have to say that i like the manga a lot better than the anime. I think the artwork was much better in the manga and the characters and story developed much better in the manga. the ending panned out a lot better i think too. Though the anime really had its high points too, the action was done really well and i couldn't help but laugh my *** off in episode 5 when
they parody south park's animation style
-
I really liked the azumanga daioh manga's as well but i was a bit dissapointed when the volumes were broken up into 4 cel sections rather than chapters. it makes it a bit harder to follow compared to your standard manga. As for the anime, it tends to stay very true to the source material, which i liked. Ayumu Kasuga (Osaka) is probably my favorite character cuz she's always so out there. her dreams about chiyo and her pigtails was hilarious. btw, since when was proper grammer and punctuation required for posting for chissakes? i don't see anything like that in the rules but i apologize if we've offended your queen's proper english.
