Which leads me to my question--is [spoiler']"Maniwa" still present as his young self in the new cycle established at the end of PA? Wouldn't that make him the only character able to exist on two different levels at the same time (as Maniwa and as the prophet)?

Episode 13 Spoilers ahead. Do not highlight unless you've seen it.
Just another warning, BIG SPOiLERs.
Dagger-dono you just made me curious enough to rewatch the last two minutes of my fansub. (Can't wait for the money to get DVDs >.

Hey Ænigma and Exotahu, I don't mean to be rude, but just to you know, usually administrators frown on such short messages unless they are a bit more insightful and add to the conversation. I'll agree with you though. The eidts in the English version annoy me. Why were they being threatened by a finger? Sometimes censors can be very ridiculous. But you still can't please everybody. The original series would never fly in the United States unless it was targetted at a much, much older audience. And you can't make as much money with them.
I found Yu-Hi-Oh a bit like pokemon...Made for children but yeah...
Really? I never found Yu-Hi-Oh like Pokemon. Actually... maybe I should watch the series first. To be honest, I've never seen Yu-Hi-Oh. Though I used to watch Yu-Gi-Oh a lot. ^^;; *cough* Sorry, couldn't help myself.
Actually, Yu-Gi-Oh! R is written by Takahashi, and is more of an "untold story" involving Pegasus' apprentice, Bandit Keith, and the dark god cards.
Really? Hm... Not what my sources tell me, but heck, what do I know. I stopped following a while back. Damn soccer moms... Damn dubbies... on my nerves. -ArV
It's come to the states and now I'm curious. Obvious question first, were there any edits to the first ep.?
I haven't seen the English versions (I have to get them as soon as I can) so I can't tell you if there were any changes. But I love this series. I'll agree with you on the Opening and Closing. ^^ I had to get the songs for them after seeing the series. XD As for the comparison to Serial Experiments Lain, I don't think there's much similarity except maybe at the beginning. For one, PA follows more than one character's story line, unlike SEL, and some episodes add more setting than plot. Also, the ending for SEL just seemed to make everything worse and more confusing (of course it was years ago I saw it, I'll have to rewatch it properly >.
Actually there are Three Series, the last of it being Yugioh GX which currently is airing over in Japan.
I forgot about GX. There's also a new Yu-Gi-Oh! Manga. It's not made by Takahashi and it takes place in an alternate universe. I think it's called Yu-Gi-Oh R.
They actually emphasize fate over free will, which is quite a surprise in this day and age.
Isn't this a common theme in Anime? Eastern religions are based more around circular history than semitist religions. Therefore it's easier to swallow the fate concept in that part of the world. A great example is the anime stereotype of the "destined one". -ArV

Thanks Retribution. ^^ I'm downloading Qdig now, and if for some reason it doesn't work I know what kinds of things to search for. The website says it's PHP does that mean it doesn't make the actual thumbnail images? -ArV

Yu-Gi-Oh! (King of Games) is a series created by Kazuki Takahashi in 1997. It ran in Shounen Jump until last year I believe. I've been following the series for I'm not sure how long, but a year longer than it has been here in North America. I liked the manga for a while, but was turned off from the fact that it was either in Japanese, Chinese, or French. There were actually TWO series for Yu-Gi-Oh! Not SEASONS but SERIES. The first series had a better voice actors, but crappier animation. It was also darker and involved less card games. In that series Yugi was really king of games, not just king of Duel Monsters. I think the best part of the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise was the movie. Not the one that came out in theaters in the United States, but the half hour movie from the first series. It involved Read Eyes Meteor Dragon I think... >.< I stopped paying attention to the series when it became too popular in the United States. All the misconceptions and "know-it-all" 12 year olds were pissing me off. -ArV

Hi, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong thread, if so, please Mr. Moderator please feel free to move this. I just took over two hundred pictures and I need a program or system that will convert them all into thumbnails. Because of time restraints, I don't want to go to photoshop and resize each image individually. Does anybody know of a program or method of doing this? What do the artists here usually do/use? Thanks ^^ -ArV

Hm. If they're in disguise. They're not wearing their forehead protector right? If they are... Oh, there's supposedly a lot of controversy over one of the most recent Naruto chapters. I haven't read 261 yet, but according the end of 260
Gaara is supposed to die in this one.
I JUST READ IT.
AHHHHHH. >.< AHHHHHH. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Bwahahaha I am faster than Anime News Network. At Anime North, voice director Rob Bakewell officially announced the license of Hikaru no Go. According to Bakewell, Hikaru will be played by Sam Vincent (Martin Mystery's Billy and Martin, Gundam Seed's Athrun, and Hamtaro's Dexter) Touya Meijin will be played by Paul Dobson (Reboot's Matrix, Ranma's Happosai, Inuyasha's Naraku, Transformer's Sideways, and Fatal Fury's Krauser) and Touya Akira will be played by a new voice actor.
Bakewell was the Talent Coordinator on "Gundam Wing", "Mobile Suit Gundam", and "Zoids". He was voice Director on "Trouble Chocolate", "Project ARMS", "Infinite Ryvius", "Galaxy Angel-season 3 and 4", "Popotan", "Earth Defense Family", and the future "Junkers, Come Here".
>.< I hope he wasn't mistaken when he said "official announcement" otherwise I might get burned... -ArV

Was the game club a school activity? If so, you can probably email one of the people you do have the emails for and ask them to get the email from her for you. Was hers the only email you kept? What if you tried looking up her name in a directory? -ArV
-
Don't the other friends have her email too? If you're the only one that transferred, maybe your friends could ask her at the game club again. Also, send her an email at her old address. Tell her that you want her new email. That way if she ever does check the old address (sometimes people do) she'll see your message and email you. -ArV

Nerds, Goths, Punks, The Popular Kids, etc... What do you fall in?

I think stereotypes are funny. I especially love how people who condone stereotypes can hardly ever categorize themselves unless they call themselves "outsiders" or "different" somehow. In this thread, there was only one person that didn't considered their self to be either gothic (the latest trend apparently) or uncategorizable. And he didn't even create categories, he just described his interests. Why do you think you can't label yourself like you do others? Because you KNOW you're HUMAN and you can't be described by just a single word. Why not show respect for others and accept they're human and uncategorizable too? Guh. Ok, so I hate stereotypes. Sue me. I just don't see how propagating stereotypes gets you anywhere. -ArV -
The Anime has almost caught up with the Manga. Episode 135 is the first Filler Episode after the
Rasengan vs Chidori
battle. Apparently there'll be a few of these before the Anime continues on with the Kakashi Gaiden and current plot arcs. Is anybody watching these? Is it worth downloading? I usually only get the Manga and I was considering getting these episodes since they're side stories that never happened in the manga. Edit: I read the update wrong. >.< 136 is the first Filler Episode. If anyone watches it, it'd be great if they would report here on it. -ArV
In Japan, otaku DOES NOT IMPLY ANIME. V_V
Uh... From what I can tell Umbra II never said Otaku had anything to do with Anime. The only time he mentioned Anime was when he mentioned how both of the meanings changed once they reached the United States.
Clearly, the transfering of the word "otaku", the same as "anime", has differed from its original.
I agree with him on this point. The meanings of Otaku and Anime have both changed in the West. As many have said, Otaku in Japan means an obsessive fan. It's usually used in a negative extent. An example of an Otaku is the Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons. A perfect Otaku right there. And as many seem to agree, Otaku in English does not necessarily mean somebody who is obsessed. Many casual watchers believe themselves to be Otaku. (Though, the ones you were talking about MistressRoxie -- the ones that refuse to watch dubs, etc. -- I also find very, very annoying.) Anime too has changed in its meaning. In the West we recognize only Japanese Animation as anime. In Japan, though, the meaning of Anime is _any_ animated series. Er, anyway. In all honesty. I think this thread is just repeating itself... and there wasn't much point to it in the first place. -ArV

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: Teaser Trailer Now Online!
r2vq replied to EVA Unit 100's topic in Noosphere
I fell in love with Rowling's books before they became the fad in my area. I'm still in love with the Potter books, so much so that I refuse to read any copies of them unless they are my very own. For that reason, coupled with my current financial situatoion, I have yet to read the Fifth book, Order of the Phoenix. I hope I can have my own copy before the release of the next installment, The Half Blood Prince. As for the movies, I never watched them on my own accord. I've seen the first for my sisters, and the second for my girlfriend (who doesn't like HP but was bored). With the little knowledge of the actors I have, I have to disagree and wonder about the statements about Emma Watson. Maybe she's just not my type. ^^ Katie Leung (Cho Chang) on the other hand is cute. Hm.. It would probably be in my favour if the aforementioned girlfriend doesn't happen by this page. XD Unlike the previous movies, this installment has caught my interest. I just might see it in theaters. ^^ -ArV -
I loved Fried Green Tomatoes. Such a touching story. I saw it on TV a few years ago and its name hasn't left my mind since. Sorry, I can't help putting this in. Name your favourite book, movie, and food. The answer to all three is, Fried Green Tomatoes! A movie I saw my girlfriend watch recently was Finding Forrester. Another touching story about a boy from the bronx with the hidden talent of being a genius writer. ^^ Something I'm not. I guess I'm just a sap for sappy movies, or maybe it's just because it's a Sean Connery movie. Still, I suggest Finding Forrester to everyone out there. -ArV

I liked how they used the original Marvin robot in the scene where Arthur, Zaphod and Ford where going to rescue Trillian from the Vogons. I thought it was the original, but I had doubts until the ending credits when they credited the use of it. I also like how they used the original Arthur actor (Simon Jones) as the Ghostly Voice who greats the crew as they arrive on Magrathea and tells them the missles are being launched at them.

I noticed both of those. The latter was my favourite part of the entire movie. I just love the original actors for the series, and how all the little things they put in for the devoted fans were a delight to see. It's a strange little thrill seeing
Arthur watching Arthur
. Though, I doubt cameos need spoilers. After a little searching, I found a picture with
both Marvins
beside each other taken during production. It was cute. ^^ To Nomad and anyone else that's seen this movie. I didn't stay for the credits, was there a gag I missed halfway/after the credits? If there was could you describe it? With spoiler tags if necessary. -ArV
it seemed more like the trailer for a low-budget action flick than something based on a Douglas Adams book
I saw the movie the day it came out. I skipped school to see it. Mind you, I've been a big H2G2 fan since I read the trilogy in five parts so this post might be biased. ---- The Graphics were beautiful. Except maybe the unrealistic feel Zaphods extra limbs gave at times. Dagger-dono the extent at which the Jim Henson puppets were controlled were closer to realistic than anything I've seen in the past. Also, the Guide itself was more beautiful than I could have dreamed. The scenes Arthur shares with Slartibartfast were my favourite. Almost made me more so of an environmentalist. The script, as Manic Webb stated, was written by Douglas Adams himself. It stayed true to the original spirit of the series and any changes that were made only proved to improve the story. Unfortunately many of the jokes were cut out, namely my favourite: BEWARE THE LEOPARD. A few other things I would say are a negative would be the "love" relationship they stuck in, and the lack of digital watch jokes. (Honestly, I think Arthur fit with that girl from So Long and Thanks for All the Fish) My other complaints are as near to nothing as makes no odds. ;) 5/5 Sue me I'm biased. XP
The book was different from the original radio show, which was different from the TV series, ect.
So that nobody gets confused the Radio Show (in 1977?) came first, then the Book (in 1979), then the TV Series (in 1981). The appearance of the TV Series scared me... Edit: Actually, since Last night I've been listening to the most recent addition to the radio show. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Tertiary Phase (2005) and I can't wait for the Quandary and Quintessential Phases coming out on May 3 2005. ^^ MP3 Trailier - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/media/hitchhikers_trail2.ram -ArV
I voted for the Silent Mobius girl, because I don't really like short hair on a girl :animesmil
*gasp* But you mustn't! Caska is too great a character to be destroyed by hair! She had a deep, conflicting past, and her relationship between Gutts and Griffith just grows on you.
By the way if you don?t know who Elisha Cuthbert is ill give you some titles she?s been in. She was on the show 24, she was in Old School, and my favorite The Girl Next Door.
I remember her more for Popular Mechanics for Kids. I am extremely jealous of the person that met Bill Nye. I would love to meet him. A former classmate of mine actually became one of the kids for the show after doing a Tide commercial with him. If memory serves right... I haven't met many celebrities really... I went as a volunteer with the special needs program in my school to a miniature special olympics once. We met a bunch of athletic personalities, but since I'm not into sports the only ones I can remember are Darryl Sittler and a WWE Wrestler named Taz, or Tez or something. I've talked to Sugar Baby and saw Carlos from YTV (a Canadian TV network that helped make Reboot, Beast Wars and other great shows. One of the only sources for Anime on TV in Canada) but Sugar didn't talk to me. Either what I said was too weird or she was in a hurry. ^^;; Since I was a geek, I wont repeat what I said. bwheheheh. I guess Convention Guests don't count. ^^;; Scott McNeil heh. Hugged Atsuko Enomoto... etc. Other than that, a girl from Degrassi the Next Generation went to the same school as me, but I didn't see her much. -ArV
