I have decided that I would be the "Yo" Alchemist. My weapon would be the "Yo-Yo" that, because of Alchemy, can be used to create Wind elements. (Similar to the Fire Alchemist's glove somebody spoke of earlier). Bweheheh. ph34r m41 l33t y0y0 5killz0rz. Although lightning and fire are useful. I think I'd be creative enough to use my YoYo for transportation needs. Bweheheh. ph34r m41 l33t y0y0 l4zyn355. okay. I confess. I can't talk l33t. ph34r m41 5ukki3 "l33t" 5killz0rz. -ArV

x kakashi x I re-read my post and found the language terrifyingly unclear. Please don't blame yourself. Basically, my only reason for posting was to pull out your opinions more. I'd like to hear your opinions. Rather than agree to disagree (that's very boring to me) I like to have Philosophical debates that have conflicting sides. Nothing you say can offend me in anyway. Unless you talk about my hat. I like my hat. ... Okay I don't have a hat. Kawaii Seth Do you mean that the only meaning in this life lies in the physical domain you see before you? What do you think happens when somebody dies? Do our actions in this world affect what may happen? If they do not, why act a certain way? What's the incentive? Also, why don't you ask Why? -ArV
Question: I have never really kept up with the Naruto manga, but does the anime follow the manga or does it go off on its own?
This doesn't need spoiler tags since it doesn't refer or reveal anything about the plot. To answer your question, yes, the anime follows the manga pretty closely. The only deviations I could point out (other than minor changes here and there) are the filler episodes that are used so that the Anime doesn't catch up to the manga. If you see an episode that doesn't contribute to the main plot at all it probably wasn't in the manga.
so...why do so many people get upset over American dubbing and such? You have your fansubs. :/
A very, very good point. I like to think that I can see both sides of the argument here. ^^ Although the "subbies" will have their fansubs available and free, the creation of the official dub will herald a new wave of fans that many "subbies" may find annoying. Fans that only like the dubs are often referred to as "dubbies". Also, many people are afraid that the company that has licensed the series will destroy whatever artistic vision of the creator by (a-translations that don't match what the "subbies" want) or (b-over popularity and overmarketting as we've seen with Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!). Truth be told, I find that the nature of these people that vehemently attack the dubbing industry as annoying, and sometimes worse, than those they oppose. There are people that just wont listen to reason, or acknowledge facts and history. These people always assume the worst and, I find, only like the original because it's in a language they do not speak. Heh, sorry. I ranted. As you said Lunox, subbies have their subs. Nobody is forcing them to watch the dub. -ArV

Toonami and Cartoon Network don't do the editting. If they believe that the series is mild enough to show a younger audience, I would think it's because they like the amount of censorship done. I highly doubt the VizPro would change its dub to match Cartoon Network standards... I have this stance because of the following interview... I could be wrong of course, it's just how I interprete it. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/columns/sunday.php?id=21
With some of the shows like Fullmetal Alchemist and Naruto, there?s going to be some serious bloodshed and impalings and that kind of stuff. How are you planning with dealing with that? Actually, those shows are not edited by us. Toonami used to do a lot of premiere preparation, but over the years, we?ve sort of gotten out of that business, so these shows are going to come to us from the distributor. There?s going to have to be some sort of editorial that happens with the properties and I know that?s going to frustrate a lot of people, but it?s kind of the realism of the situation. There?s certain things that we just can?t do, like a lot of the more graphic violence. With things like sexual content, we?re limited in that we can?t show too much of it, so the show?s definitely going to have to be modified. But we always try to preserve the integrity of the work. But again, you make certain sacrifices to open up the property to a much larger audience. So that?s how we deal with it.
-ArV

I just remembered. Has anyone heard of the second Naruto movie? It'll be out August 6 in Japan. Link to ANN Article (kinda old) http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=6319
In an ordinary village, Naruto, Shikamaru and Sakura were rescuing a stray child's pet, but in the midst of their deed, a young knight, "Temujin" attacks. During the battle, the three become separated. Naruto challenges Temujin, and a terrible battle ensues, in the end Temujin and Naruto fall off a cliff. Additionally, before Shikamaru's eyes, a massive battle fortress appears. In order to understand his situation, Shikamaru sneaks into the castle. But inside, Shikamaru witnesses a scene that he should be afraid of...
XD I still have to see the first movie. -ArV

As for the opinionated thing, I'd just like to hear what others say when they're forced to rethink their ideas. That's why I asked about certain things.
Who says godi s a divine creature?
Well... definition of divine directly deals with God. "Godlike, or coming from, or having to do with a god." For the sake of continuing though, I assume that you meant compassionate. Somebody who wouldn't use lower life forms as a means of amusement. As I said before, as a creature becomes more enlightened comes the greater compassion. All religions and faiths agree that when one becomes enlightened (or whatever the counterpart) there loses a need for the worldy desires that humans have. Therefore, if an entity were powerful enough to destroy and play with our lives, it would have to be enlightened to the point of compassion. It would also be rid of the desires like the desire for entertainment from something so barbaric. -ArV
If all you can take out of a Kahlo piece is, "I hate it it is so ugly you're gay," then you are stupid for all earthly purposes.
Well, I understand the points of both x kakashi x and Godelsensei. Sometimes I find people, not just at school, to be challenging to deal with. The stubborn, the ignorant, and the plain stupid do exist in more forms than one. I don't understand the reason a girl must walk around with her underwear showing under her kilt. I don't understand why certain students enjoy the misery of others' pain. To counter this though, I try not to fall into their crowd, the cynical type of person that thinks their ***** don't stink. I understand my flaws and work hard at fixing them. At the same time I try not to take advantage of or offend others' through their faults. I don't think its necessary to start a war. Hate brings more hate. Anger yields more anger. I think tolerence and patience have helped me cope with the existence of certain people.
(No, [i]actually[/i'], I've been in the seventh grade for the past three years, genius. -_-)
hey, don't blame me for my bad memory. blame my years as a sleep deprived child. i don't remember when we met, and i don't remember how long ago you were at that gifted school. so XP. ...i think i'm in grade twelve... -ArV

I apologize if I offend anyone in the following post.
Since I don't believe in god I can't refer to him or why he created us. And if he did, it seems we're some sort of amusement for him.
Does it seem like we're just a form of entertainment? If there were a creature that was on a level so high that it could just decide to throw an epidemic upon the world, how much pleasure could it take in doing so? If one were so enlightened, how could it take pleasure in the suffering of others? Human philosophers have found that with an increase in intelligence and an increase in understanding comes an increase in compassion and empathy. A being who is enlightened to the point of God-like powers should thus be compassionate enough that it wouldn't just create an epidemic because of tea-time boredom. I don't necessarily believe in the creator image myself, but even if I bring myself to it, the reason I have can't come to the conclusion you came to.
3. Or perhaps to worship God.
Sometimes I really have to wonder why people devote themselves to anything. I don't mean to offend anybody religious, but honestly why? Some psychologists may say that humans need to belong. They need to find an answer to explain things and that's why myths, religion, science, and philosphy were created. Although this explains the reason religions exist, it doesn't explain why people will blindly sign on to a blatantly fantastic story that has no basis of proof other than circumstantial, biased letters and artifacts. Why would you devote yourself to something unseen, and unfelt? Why would you listen to what somebody thousands of years tells you to do? Why would you blindly follow rules without even understanding all of them.
Um...what? Did you mean "inconsequential"? : P Silly Arvie.
yes, that's what i meant. >P
Life is what you make of it, depending on what makes you satisfied and happy, is what will determine your "life".
Ah, the 'everyone gets their own meaning' argument. The problem with this argument is that it only eplains our purpose. It explains what to do with life, "the meaning of life is to be happy...etc." but it doesn't explain why we exist. Why does suffering happen? Why do some people have more chance than others? Why am I so fat/ugly/sick/(fe)male/unlucky etc.? Why are we on Earth? Are put here by a logical form? If so, why? If not, how and why are we here? Is there no reason but to enjoy yourself and satiate your hungers? Does that justify psychotic killers and rapists?
I wish I could take credit, but it's actually from Monty Python lol...
Gotta love the flying circus. That Viking(Or was it pirate?) bit before/after the movie was strange though.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The only difference between us and the animals is that we can reason. The meaning of life should be the meaning for all speices. Not just us humans. I belive the meaning of life is simply to live and then to die and continue the existence of our speices. Nobody knows what lies beyond this world. How can you even be sure that this is not a dream. What if the whole meaning of life thing is just a question to torture our minds in this world until we die. No theory can be proven in this world so I figure why ask when you'll more than likely find out when you die.
Ah... very nice. You cannot prove or understand the meaning of the universe because you are always a part of it. If you are dreaming, you do not know it. In that sense it is difficult to realize if this world is a dream. Although Lucid Dreamers can tell the difference between dreaming and reality (using simple techniques that anybody can learn) I like to think that the statement serves a different purpose. What I believe you're touching upon is that we cannot trust what our emotions tell us. Also, there is no way to prove anything unless you rely upon emotions to observe the results. Life is confusing, yes. Can we understand it? I think so. I believe that if we use our reason and logic, we can use facts and data that can not be altered by emotions or preferences (1+2 will always be 3). How long this will take... is a different matter. The knowledge of the Universe can come to you, but only when your mind is open and willing to receive. -ArV ps. Again, I'm sorry if I offended anyone. I just like to debate. ^^;; And I hope this made sense... I typed as quick as I could...

It's good to hear the ending was good. It's a shame it doesn't extend further than that. I find that Hikaru makes his most major improvements after that point. It was also the part of the series that made me want to get my own fan. The New Year's Special, from what I remember, does one of the short stories from the manga. It's an escapade of when Hikaru has to buy Kaga a tea cup. It's been a while so I may be wrong about it. The ending of the episode, I believe, was a match... hm. And you know Chinese Waya's cute. XP If you liked the Anime, Dagger-dono, I wouldn't totally ignore the Manga. At least from the point the Anime left off. ^^ -ArV

I'd like to answer this, but I don't know what kinds of alchemists exist since I don't follow the series. ^^ Would you be able to list the kinds of alchemists? Or do you want us to make up names for the purpose of this thread? Maybe, I'd have something to do with the elements. -ArV
The meaning of life is and will forever be 47[/B'].
Actually, the answer to Life the Universe and Everything is 42, not 47. Though, we shall never know what that means until we truly understand the question. Click Here for the Google Calculator and Here for Wikkipedia article on 42. Back on topic, this is actually a deeply Philosophical question that has been asked since the beginning of life itself. Many believe that our lives are consequential and have no purpose. Some believe that this life is a passage to the next and is either a test or a deciding factor for the next "life". Some Darwinists may argue that the purpose is to procreate and have our species prosper and suceed. Although my knowledge in either subject is embaressingly minimal, I am particularly interested in the Zen/Ch'an Buddhist teachings and the Chaos theory. Zen attracts me with its teachings of simplicity and importance of one's inate nature, while the Chaos theory is attractive because it makes the future so complex that things can only flow and nothing can be predicted. Although at the moment my life policies and religion in general are in flux, my purpose in life is to find my purpose and have turned to Philosophy to find my answer. Oh and "God's final message to his creation: Sorry for the inconvenience" -ArV

What Does your sig, avi and username say about you.
r2vq replied to shinji172's topic in General Discussion
Uh... Doukeshi03 Your signature reveals your interest in the beautiful culture of goth and vampirism. Although many associate vampires with Bram Stroker and Dracula, you associate yours with Anne Rice and Lestat. The header of your signature "...here endeth the lesson." reveals a particular confidence in your posts and in yourself. Although the quote has this statement, your avatar has a contrasting one. Its use of a mask show not of hiding from fear, but for security. It would say that you wish to hide yourself so as not to hurt others. Your signature's banner shows that you don't mind revealing your true self to those you choose. You can be beautiful and kind, or ugly and powerful. The final description "He wears woe..." reveal that your literary tastes are classical and developed. The use of similes in each of the sentances have an artistic backing that could only be appreciated by those of distinct taste. To sum it up in one sentance,
I wouldn't want you biting my neck.
edit: does your name also have a hinting to nameless or Clowns in general? -ArV -
North America Ontario Live in Toronto. Been around Ontario, but never left the province. Strange. Florida One of the first places I remember going. The water was cold when I took a shower so I didn't want to. I was still young. ^^ I liked Disneyworld though. Maybe I'll go back someday. California My cousins live here. Hollywood was great. Santa Barbara was peaceful. I'd really like to visit again. Nevada I loved the attractions in Las Vegas, and the rollercoaster on the border. I reccomend Las Vegas to those who haven't been there before. South Carolina I visited my great aunt there. Great weather when I was there. And the water was wonderful. There was also lots of beautiful birds and finned mammals when we went in the speed boat. One of my favourite trips, if only it hadn't ended so soon. Stop Overs/Short visits I got my YoYo from Jersey when visiting a cousin. Unfortunately didn't spend much time in New York except at the border. I stopped over in Anchorage, Alaska, Hawaii, and San Fransisco but those hardly count. Asia Philippines Born there, and spent two years growing my infant self until I was translocated to North America. I visited twice. It's a nice place to visit, and it's a beautiful countryside. Unfortunately the cities are pretty much filthy. Stop Overs My plane has stopped in Hong Kong, and Tokyo and I must say that the airports are beautiful (especially at dawn). But I didn't stay more than a day in either country, so again it doesn't count. Well, that's what I can remember off the top of my head. I envy you who can travel by yourselves. I plan one day to travel by myself to different locations... different locations... places like some of you have gone to. ^^ -ArV

Godel, you're in highschool? Although I'm in Grade Twelve, I can only partially relate to most of the threaders. School is tiresome, stressful, and disgustingly painful. A study says that teenagers should be allowed to sleep in on the weekends because of all the time they spend awake during the week day. At my school, homework is every day, all the time. You always have work to do. There's always an assignment on your lap and if you're done you can pick up the next one. I can't wait to get out of high school, but I also don't want to leave it. It gives me an excuse to see my friends every day, and a chance to express myself through projects. It also helps me improve my skills and knowledge, even if I have to "improve" in areas that I find useless or redundant. My main complaint with highschool, and most schools in General, is that although they insist that they exist to teach, they force students to complete useless assignments that don't teach anything at all. If my teacher understands that I understand, why must I complete a five-hour unit on it that has no chance of flexibility or improvement in my creativitiy or knowledge. -ArV
Yet I can't help but feel that HikaGo could easily use another 75 episodes. It just seems like there's so much left to tell.
I'm not sure if the series ever got repetitive. I felt that it could have continued. It ended pretty abruptly. I guess the Mangaka had more sense than the producers of the previously mentioned anime in that respect. Aw shwell. Dagger-dono, if you finish the Anime I'd like to know how far they got, if it's not too much trouble. hanashite mo ii desu ne? ^^ -ArV
And on the topic of the dub, the June issue of [I]Shonen Jump[/I'] has announced that it will be release in September '05 on Cartoon Network. I don't know how old this news is but noone seems to have posted about it so, there ya go.
Most people knew it'd be third quarter, but I don't know if anybody knew the exact date. Thx Cap'n. ^^ The most recent scanlation for the manga came out. It seems like another slow rollover chapter. We're still waiting for some real action. Of course the fight between
Guy's team
and Hoshigaki had a bit of action, but the team that "the sibling" is on is just talking. Hopefully next issue will be an improvement. ^^ The leader of "the sibling's" team seems to have gotten stronger. -ArV

Japanese has the easiest grammar structure I've ever had to learn. I've taken classes for three years, but they weren't University level. When I get the right age and University I'll definately take those though. A program I'm using right now to help me is JWPCE. It's a Japanese Word Processor, not the best my Microsoft Word does better, and a great Kanji dictionary. It's free for download, so Google it. ^^ Chabichou, your animations remind me of a Kanji teaching program called 555 Kanji. Take a look see. ^^ I think yours are better though. -ArV
Does anyone have any ideas as to how i can convince them to change their minds?
Explain to them the meaning of censorship. Show them the relationship between Haruka and Michiru, and how the television version pretended they were cousins. Show them the depth of the story *coughcough* and the deeper meanings behind the symbolism and classical story telling. If that doesn't work, get some Sailor Moon hentai and pretend it's official. Good thing Cartoon Network isn't using the same actors. ^^ The dubs do their best and you can't always assume that they're always going to suck. There are some dubs that are preferred over the originals. Naruto, with a lot of luck, will be one of those. ^^ Like somebody said earlier, one of the worst problems with Narutards is that they hope for the worst. So don't expect the worst, and don't automatically judge until you actually see the dub. On another note, who reads the scanlation to the manga here? It's just getting good. I hope we can finally see Naruto's new move. They've been holding us in suspense for too long. -ArV

What I find interesting is the amount of stereotypes amongst Anime Fans themselves. People I know use the terms like Dubby and Narutard freely. There are stereotypes from within, as without. -ArV o.o new pope... interesting.
I can trully understand....it is very expensive but i believe it is worth every penny :animesigh ...and for $90 you get twelve issues and two free ones.. Edit: ahhhhh... I'll make it look nicer. 1. Age:-□ 13-18 I'm turning 18 this summer. 2. Gender:-□ male Sometimes I pretend I'm a butterfly though. 3. Where are u from? (nationality, country) I was born in the Philippines, but I came to Canada. Now I live in the (self-proclaimed) most culturally diverse city in the world. 4. How did u come across anime?- friends- media I first came across anime as a child. Although, I didn't know that Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball were from Japan. The first series I knew from Japan was Pokemon. The first serii that got me hooked were Dragonball Z and Gundam W. 5. Do you think Anime influences u as a person? Explain Because of Anime, I have made friends. I have learned new things. I have been to places I have never dreamed of. Anime has changed my life. And because of it I play Go. ^^ 6. Research shows that anime is increasingly popular with the western world. Why do you think this is so? I think it may be the most recent fad. I believe people like it because it's different, and that makes them "cool". 7. What attracts you to anime? I like all forms of animation, whether it be anime or European Cartoons. I also like comic books, and movies. All of these I consider different genres with the same purpose. 8. Is your interest in Anime, in any way related to an interest in Japan or to learn about Japenese society? I grew an interest in Japanese society and culture from Anime. Now my interest in Japan and it's culture are stronger than my interest in Anime. 9. Have you taken a Japanese language class or been to Japan? My exam will be in about a month. This is my third year. 10. Have you learned anything about Japanese culture, and if so, give 3 specific examples? 1. Japanese people value their society and their country over the indiuvidual. 2. Japan is a sexist society that is deeply rooted in tradition. 3. Although Japan is so strong when it comes to tradition, they are just as open to new things and are influenced by many other cultures, especially American. -ArV

I've seen the Zelda cartoon /and/ the Mario Bros. show. The Mario Bros. thing was corny, but not that bad... in my opinion. A friend of mine, a Zelda fan, says the Zelda Cartoon was totally out of character. And I quote.
That's not Link! Link's supposed to be submissive! He's supposed to do whatever the hell you tell him to! "You I need this, go on a quest across the lands and get it so I can refer you to someone else who'll also force you to do something."
