you can watch it chibi but i refuse to allow you to play competitive soccer! it turns cute innocent girls into viscous monsters... and monster girls into abominations.
I am highly offended at your implication that I am in any way more resistant to flow than the next girl who doesn't play competitive soccer =P

Just sayin'. Hating the time difference a little, I'm gonna be up at 5:15 tomorrow morning to watch the SKorea game TT_TT hope it's good. Edit: Yay SKorea 2-0 against Greece. And Argentina beat Nigeria 1-0, not a huge surprise. The England v. USA match is starting soon. Let's go England ;D
South Africa's Makarabas made me mute my TV at one point.
yeah they're getting more than a little deafening. o_o For anyone who didn't tune in, South Africa tied Mexico 1 - 1 in the opening match. Decent game. The SA goal was wicked. Uruguay - France match is on right now, and so far it's scoreless. Love love love this tournament.
Also kudos to Deena for posting the official theme for the world cup....I love K'naan and his music. Its one of the best themes ever.
From what I was told, they changed the official theme from K'naan's Waving Flag to Shakira's Waka Waka which I posted above. I think because it was used for Haiti or something, and Waka Waka was actually made for the World Cup. Edit: FIFA.com confirms the actual song is Waka Waka, doesn't mention Waving Flag which I think is weird. FIFA announces Waka Waka as Official World Cup theme.

I'm actually always surprised when I don't have weird dreams. Honest to God, my regular night consists of some really effed up brain activity. I've had sailor moon themed dreams, super power dreams, weird school related dreams, murder related dreams and everything in between. But to this day, the one that stands out the most is one I had a few years ago. I'm 16 or 17 or so and for whatever reason the whole adult world, basically anyone over 18, has turned black and white and gone... mute, I guess, would be the best word. They go on about their lives, day to day like it's normal, but they can't see or hear or interact with anyone under that age. So the whole rest of the world is black and white and then there's us kids left and we need to find a way to save it. So i essentially go to this safe house where everyone is gathered and try and rally up support to fix things, and figure out how. I don't know why or how this is, but I'm living in New York or something? And I know that the only way we can save the grown ups, is to go to the sky to find the golden Buddhas hidden in the clouds. So I assemble a team of kids from 6-17, and we pull out these gigantic tea pots. Like big enough for you to sit on. And I'm like, okay everyone, get on your tea pot so we can go. So, we all get on our tea pots and push off the ground and suddenly we're flying, going straight up. As we break through the first layer of clouds there are these gigantic spiraling towers with big platforms going side to side all the way up. And inside these towers, which have no real walls, are tigers. So we're flying past these tigers in towers and break through the second set of clouds to where the top of the towers are, and the sun is out and there is colour up here. And the tea pots don't really fly, they actually just go up and down, like those bouncy balls with handles that everyone had when I was a kid, so we had to like direct our tea pots in the direction we wanted to go. And then we set off to find golden Buddhas. Yeah it still makes like no sense. It was pretty sick, though. The same year I had one about traveling through this market in a 3rd world country, but we were traveling in a train cart... thing. Anyways we got dumped in the ocean just in time to see Bruce Willis jumping out of a helicopter and this big oil tanker thing set on fire. So the water was on fire. Awesome. More recently I had a dream where my friend's best friend passed away in surgery but I was at the hospital and they weren't and I was sent in to see the friend and it was actually just her head. And the head was actually Sarah Jessica Parker's. And she had kept on donating body parts til she was just a head. Wat.

There was this sub that taught me from Jr. High to High School... his classes were an absolute joke. In fact, he even has a facebook group dedicated to him. He was really old. Like probably well into his 70s, and just didn't seem all that with it anymore. You could make the worst excuses ever and get out of class, you could tell someone to say 'here' for you, and he wouldn't notice. He was just so ridiculous and made the most awkward jokes possible. He would turn around and people would sneak out of class. Oh and there was also the issue that he couldn't teach. Not a damn subject. For reals. There was one incident where his fly was undone for the entire class. Hawt. And then there was the guy's gym teacher in my Jr.High. Creepy is an understatement. He was essentially a hippy, had longer hair than all the girls, and thought he was gonna be a rockstar one day. He played guitar sometimes at random, and sang for us at assemblies. He 'wrecked' his voice one day singing, and from then on obnoxiously had a microphone headset (which he left on when he went to the washroom once. Good times.) He seemed waaaay to interested in this one guy in my grade who was a star athlete. He was an awful athlete. He showed up at our grade 9 graduation and some parents thought he was a hobo. D: OHHH teachers. Also, I can't believe I forgot, this past year I had a Japanese prof who effectively said "You suck, you should drop this class." no wonder I don't want to keep taking it anymore -___-;

We've finally had a smattering of summer weather, up north here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It's been a month of absolute weather chaos. I got back from Vancouver around May 3rd and was greeted with snow. Yep. The white stuff made an appearance. And it stuck around, too, for a bit. Then it went away and was just windy and cold, and then there was some more snow... point of the story being, in a month we went from winter to Summer. Not a lot of time to get used to warmth here... And it's dry dry dry heat when it comes so it usually feels even hotter than it is which is yucky. Once summer is finally in full swing (probably about 2 weeks til that kind of weather sets in) we'll probs have 30+ C weather every day for awhile. When that finally happens, I will hide in my basement like the lurker I am. And have lots of popsicles.

That was one of the best moments in sporting history and the world needs more of those these days. That really united the population of South Africa. But as far as hosting goes, Atlanta had a bombing during their Olympics in 1996 and I'd like to think of Atlanta as a safe-ish city.... we can only hope people won't go ape-crazy when this event is going on.
That would be incredible, I would absolutely cheer for them if they got far in the World Cup. It's like when we had the Olympics here in Vancouver, it really did bring people together and yeah it would be great if they got that again. I think I remember hearing that women need to be really careful/possibly have defensive stuff on them at all times because of the really high incidence of rape =/ scary stuff.

Seriously. Oh right and all of my Hispanic friends are obsessed and in Germany we call it FuÃ?ball. The Ã? is a double 'ss' for the record. I think I saw a guy headbutt a goal once and thought that was cool. And I met Mia Hamm at a Take Your Daughter To Work Day in Silicon Valley. That's...where my knowledge of all this ends. But I'm 99.9% sure I will hear all about it through facebook when my frenzied latin friends shriek the news to the world through their status updates. Speaking of which, I remember hearing people complain that South Africa is as bad a location for the World Cup as Bejing was for the Olympics. Is there still a furor?
There were some issues about whether or not SA could actually handle the tournament, because I think for awhile things were moving along really slowly in terms of construction - but they did finish up all the stadiums in advance so that's good news. There were also some concerns about safety of fans, just because of all the crazy violence and such, but people who are gonna go, are gonna go anyway. I think the really sad part is that most South Africans can't even afford to go.

1. It's pop. Well, in Canada anyway. But I'm not weirded out by people saying soda, and the whole "we call everything coke" thing is an idea I've come to accept (though I'll never use it, haha because I do think it's pretty ridiculous.) 2. Tally another vote for the good Dr and his delightful Pepper beverage. I don't particularly love any pop, but if I'm gonna drink it, Dr Pepper please! (plus it's great to mix with alcohol. Regular rum? Check. Coconut or spiced rum? Check. Soju? Absofrigginlutely.)

[s]I'm having trouble adding some people to my friend's list :C It says Loading... for ages and then after awhile I'll refresh and it'll still say "add me as a friend" and they won't show up on my friend's list. And if I go and try again it'll say "member is already on your friends list." but they still aren't. WAT DO?[/s] I might understand now, but if it is what I think it is, you need a "friend request has been sent to ____ for approval," rather than friend has already been added message. lolz.

Hello, hello everyone. Now I don't often* (read: never) make threads, but I just feel like since it hasn't been made yet and it's only about a week away, we need a World Cup 2010 thread. I don't know about y'alls but I'm ridiculously excited. There are going to be some incredible matches, sweet bar gatherings with friends, and general "friendly" rivalry (My team got farther than your team, nyah nyah nyah). There's just something about soccer tournaments. I love the atmosphere, you can feel how charged up the fans get at the matches, and I love the upsets and surprises. The teams who have made it to the tournament are as follows: A. South Africa Mexico Uruguay France B. Argentina Nigeria Korea Republic Greece C. England USA Algeria Slovenia D. Germany Australia Serbia Ghana E. Netherlands Denmark Japan Cameroon F. Italy Paraguay New Zealand Slovakia G. Brazil Korea DPR Cote D'Ivoire Portugal H. Spain Switzerland Honduras Chile I'm pullin' for Spain, Portugal, Brazil and Argentina, Spain being my favourite. My underdog team is Korea Republic (i love them, i'd love for them to do well, but it won't surprise me if they don't.) Canada, my country, has never and it seems like will never get to the World Cup :C Don't heckle me, but I personally don't want the USA to do well, because, they win at everything else! Why do they need soccer, too? Just for them to get into the World Cup is pretty impressive for a nation that's not really a soccer nation. What about you guys? Anybody else planning on watching? Favourite teams or players (Torres. Hnnnngh)? Is your country in the World Cup? If so, will you be cheering for them? And are there any lucky bums who are actually going to get to go to the World Cup? Discuss! Hopefully I can update this thread regularly once matches start. if it stays alive that long, that is. Lol. Natalie stepped out from the apartment building that brisk Sunday morning, the rusted metal door of the apartment squeaking closed behind her, desperately in need of oil for what looked like years and years. She had tucked her hair into an oversized white toque, and wrapped a large grey scarf around her neck, which covered completely the lower half of her face. I hate the cold. Natalie grumbled to herself, rubbing her gloved hands together for warmth. She adjusted the Satchel slung around her shoulders, before starting her walk to work. Since her run in with Second Sight agents a few months back in Barcelona, Natalie had moved to the town of Petrovsk, Russia and had found herself a job helping out at a small family-run bookstore. She crossed the street, the snow muffling her footsteps completely. She moved quickly. Although it had been some time since sheâ??d encountered Second Sight or even anything remotely suspicious, Natalie still found herself wary, watching. It was only a matter of time until they caught up to her. It was always just a matter of time. It wasnâ??t necessarily that she didnâ??t want to fight again â?? she always did. But she had become settled here â?? it was familiar and comfortable to her, and she hadnâ??t felt like home in longer than she cared to remember. Stopping in front of the shop door, she pulled out her keys. First, unlocking the reinforced outer door, and next the inner wooden door. She stepped inside, quickly shutting the lighter wooden door behind her, trying to keep in the warmth of the store. She inhaled, enjoying the warm, musty air. Natalie pulled the hat off her head while simultaneously unwrapping the scarf from her neck, shaking her hair out. She dropped them, along with her coat, on the floor behind the counter. She reached the small backroom and flicked on the lights. Seconds later, the little bell above the front door rang. Goddamnit. Who would come to the bookstore at 8 in the morning? Jesusâ?¦ her inner monologue barked out several obscenities, but her outside voice inquired tentatively in heavily English-accented Russian, "Dobroye utro!" But no response came back, just the creak of heavy boots on old hardwood. Military issue boots. One of those things you donâ??t forget, when youâ??re being hunted. Natalie stood, back to the wall, facing the front of the store, the intruder hidden by the rows of books between her and them. The person moved slowly but with purpose in her direction. She fumbled, panicking, in her pockets for a lighter, the piece of flint, anything. The steps continued on until the reached the row directly next to her, stopping just out of sight, a tall shadow cast on the floor in front of her. Shit. Shit shit shit. Natalie suddenly remembered. The lighter and flint were in her coat pocket. She had put it there for easy access on her walk to work. So much for being extra careful, idiot. She chastised herself and crouched, trying to make herself as small a target as possible. â??Callahan? Is that you?â? A familiar voice tugged on her memory. â??It might beâ?¦ depends on whoâ??s looking for her.â? She cautiously called back, looking desperately in the vicinity for something that could double as a weapon. â??This is an unusual hideout for you. We had a heck of a time trying to track you down. Very uncharacteristic. I like it.â? â??Just trying to keep you bastards on your toes. Make you puppets work for your pats on the back by superiors.â? She was met with a laugh. But a kind one. She pulled a particularly hefty book off the shelf. â??You must be rusty, Callahan. Hope it doesnâ??t take you too long to get back into top formâ?¦â? The man stepped out of shadow to reveal himself, as Natalie reached back, ready to launch the book in his face. â??Alex!â? she dropped the book and it fell to the floor with a thud. â??I could have killed you, you fucking idiot.â? She sighed at him, exasperated. He looked from her, to the book on the floor. â??What were you going to do, exactly? Bore me to death?â? He grinned at her, jamming his hands into his coat pockets. â??Oh, haha. Still witty as ever, I see.â? â??Like fine wine, I only get better with age.â? â??You wish.â? She walked over to the counter and hopped up to sit on it, facing Alex. â??Enough pleasantries... nice as it is to see you, what do you want, anyway? Weâ??re all unsafe enough as it is on our own, but two for the price of one? Second Sight goldmine, Alex. You know that.â? â??Of course I do. I wouldnâ??t do this if I didnâ??t think it was absolutely necessary. Itâ??s about the team.â? She cocked her head to the side. â??Go onâ?¦â? â??We need to be a team again. We need to take Second Sight head on, and we need to win.â? Natalie laughed mirthlessly. â??Alex, my sweet, Iâ??m a lot of things. Iâ??m impulsive, Iâ??m insane. But I am not stupid. I like living. I like killing, maiming, destroying. All of which require being alive.â? â??You call this living?â? He turned both his palms up, gesturing to the room, to her. â??This isnâ??t living, Natalie. Itâ??s hiding. Itâ??s being afraid.â? Natalieâ??s cheeks flared red in response. She clenched her teeth. â??I am not afraid. Not of Second Sight. Not of anybody.â? He rolled his eyes at her. â??Yeah, Natalie? Really? Because all this,â? he gestured again â??Says otherwise. Arenâ??t you tired of this? This isnâ??t you. This isnâ??t any of us. We served our purpose. We have a right to live again, Nat. Really live.â? Natalie lowered her eyes to the floor, thinking. â??Kainâ??s in. Thatâ??s how I found you. Heâ??s helping me track down everybody else. He also thinks we need to solve this problem, once and for all.â? She lifted her eyes to sweep the old dusty room, dimly lit by both the too few light fixtures and the grey, sunless sky, before meeting Alexâ??s own. â??Will there be fighting?â? she asked thoughtfully. â??Lots of fighting.â? He replied. â??Alright.â? Natalie cracked a sideways smile â??Alright,â? she said again, â??Iâ??m in. Just let me call my employers, to thank them and let them know that something's come up and that I canâ??t work for them anymore.â? â??Attaâ?? girl.â? He grinned. â??Iâ??ll call Kain and let him know Iâ??ve found you and that youâ??re in. And then weâ??re out of here. We've got a plane to catch.â? OOC: Hope this is okay! Let me know if I need to change anything.

Right now I'm playing FFXIII on the PS3, and, as much as I love it, it's got some very very annoying parts. For one, as much as I love the Crystarium (great mechanic, like a better Sphere grid from FFX), I hate that it's capped. So you can grind and grind all you want but it'll still stop you at a certain level until you unlock it further. I also don't like that some characters, at the same level, can still have abilities miles apart. I'm also not a fan of how some monsters/bosses are ridiculously stacked and overlevelled and whatnot. It's all fun and games until it's so hard it's not fun anymore. I guess my issue is really with the Crystarium, so I'd love if it were a) more even among characters and gave you more opportunities to grind. (& I'm really not a fan of the Eidolon fights. Meh.) Tenchu Wrath of Heaven for the PS2, rented it a billion years ago when it came out, can't remember much about the mechanics or anything but I do remember finding it super aggravating because I think it was similar issues with stupid-powerful enemies. Mirror's Edge mostly because even when you got a weapon, it was still pretty useless when you were being swarmed by the SWAT Team. It really let me down, I don't think it lived up to it's potential. Personally I think the combat system could've used some tweaking, to even it out a bit. Or maybe I'm just a n00b. Who knows.
