This is the first poem ive done in a long time, and, regrettably so... Black Acres The park of Black Acres of makers, of takers lays in the recess, at rest, at rest until the awakening, the speaking, the freaking takes the takers, the makers The trees hear not their cry, their sigh, their sigh the water hears not their plight, their fight, their might the black clouds hear not their despair, their nightmares, their frightmares only can I hear their hopeless bind, for they are crying, lieing in my mind

hmm... you seem to be about 6 months behind the buzz.... Of course the PSP can go on the internet. Ive spent literally hours in school just browsing while teachers give lectures. Also, ive played online games on the PSP for hours. And after a while, you get used to typing things into the psp via its "keyboard" it hardly takes much time for me to type a message online with it...

well, I live in Park City Utah, one of the homes of the Olympic winter games '02. There are 3 ski resorts here, so yeah I go boarding almost every weekend. Im pretty good, as I have been going for about 4 years now. I can handle any terrain, really. In fact, my friend and I are looking for a good place to go backcountry snowboarding/skiing. but there have been so many backcountry deaths here recently that its really unnerving. So, anyway, yeah I like to go snowboarding. Its fun, but theres been a lot of rain/slush in the last week.... yeah right after all this awesome snow, too. And, this winter marks the first winter that Park City has had to declare a "Snow emergency" and theyre hauling truck loads of snow out of town.....Interesting, no?

Anyone fans of Flogging Molly and The Dropkick Murphys
Falkon replied to James P. Galvatron's topic in Noosphere
I love Dropkick Murphys and Flogging molly. Their music is awesome--irish Punk rock sad thing is... only my group of friends at my school (which consists of about 50) are really he only people that like these bands. More and more people tese days are turning to mainstream "punk" music or whatever, like green day, and Good charlotte *shudders*, less than jake, *shudders again* etc etc. so its good to see that some people really do have a sense of music ^.^ -
I have to say that, personally, I am REALLY really looking forward to the release of the PSP. I mena, how COULDNT you want something that has a pretty damn good processing power, damn good graphics for a handheld, and the ability to play wirelessly online (using wireless BlueTooth technology.) It will double as a translator for I believe it said 28 different languages (source: Newsweek, October 25 (?)) Newsweek also stated that it will be able to have up to 8 hours gameplay, though I believe that figure has changed from 8 to 6.
With Sony's pre-show conference now in full swing the Playstation Portable has been fully unveiled to the awed masses. As well as the first images of the wee beast in action, we've news herein on the specifications and other such details, including clues to the titles that we'll be playing on this device Sony claim can produce full-motion "3D-CG" visuals similar to the PS2. The PSP will initially be available in black, and will include a 16:9 ratio TFT LCD wide screen, centred on a sleek, ergonomically designed controller that Sony hope will fit snugly in the hand. The dimensions are 170mm x 74mm x 23mm and it will reportedly weigh 260g. The screen will support the full sixteen-million or so colours of the spectrum, in a resolution of 480 x 272. The positioning of the PSP's D-Pad and buttons are apparently based on the Playstation's - for convenience - and the device will incorporate stereo speakers, a headphone jack and volume/brightness controls. Connectors offered include a full 802.11b wireless LAN option (for connection in the home and to the wider network), as well as USB 2.0. The wireless functionality will allow several PSPs to connect and enjoy multiplayer gaming or take the player online. Data will be downloadable wirelessly, via USB, or using the Sony Memory Stick compatibility offered. PSP software will come in Universal Media Disc format, which supports 1.8gb of data, despite being only 60mm in diameter. This format will offer support for movie and music files as well as games and other software, and a robust anti-piracy encryption system is touted. Here's the cold hard technical truths of this prodigious new handheld: Product Name: PlayStationPortable (PSP) Color: Black Dimensions: Approx. 170 mm (L) x 74 mm (W) x 23 mm (D) Weight: Approx. 260 g (including battery) CPU: PSP CPU (System clock frequency 1~333MHz) Main Memory: 32MB Embedded DRAM: 4MB Display: 4.3 inch, 16:9 widescreen TFT LCD 480 x 272 pixel (16.77 million colors) Max. 200 cd/m2 (with brightness control) Speakers: Built-in stereo speakers Main Input/Output: IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi) USB 2.0 (Target) Memory StickTM PRO Duo IrDA IR Remote (SIRCS) Disc Drive: UMD Drive (Playback only) Profile: PSP Game UMD Audio UMD Video Main Connectors: DC IN 5V Terminals for charging built-in battery Headphone/Microphone/Control connector Keys/Switches: Directional buttons (Up/Down/Right/Left) Analog pad Enter keys (Triangle, Circle, Cross, Square) Left, Right keys START, SELECT, HOME POWER On/Hold/Off switch Brightness control, Sound Mode, Volume +/- Wireless LAN On/Off switch UMD Eject Power: Built-in lithium-ion battery, AC adaptor Access Control: Region Code, Parental Control
I just got this game yesterday! After hardly playing the original NFSU, I decided to go up to my local Wal*Mart. In fact, I am very surprised that I found it there, since the damn store hard;y has any games other than the goddamn Football and Basketball games. So i got home, and, after reading some rather dissapointing review (like gamespots 7.4/10) i played it. I think it is one helluva kickass game. I have only played for about an hour so far due to school and whatnot, but it is a wicked game. Does anyone else think so? If so, what car did you start with and whatever elkse youd like to say about the game. As for me, I started with the Mazda Miata MX-5. So far I have only upgraded the cam gears and fuel accessories, A great game, and personally I would give it a 9/10. the only thing i have found wrong is that the story is told in a "slide show" type style, with drawn pictures--not animation, mind you-- and voice overs. they should have made them cinematics. I had 1-3, planning on getting four and five, but my 3rd one got juice spilled all over it! it really pissed me off, because my fave character is Sakaki, and she was on the cover *cries* Soo... continuing the above statement, my fave char is sakaki, because shes quiet, mostly, like me. fave strip? thats a toughie.... its been soo long since I have read it.. I cant remember. I like them all. But yeah, anyone reading this thread who DOESNT have this series, Id suggest you go buy it. Very funny, good art. ^.^

ok. First off, mods, if this seems not "worthy enough" of staying open, I can understand. Ok, I am looking to buy a new CD and/or open my music horizons a little. I want to go down to my local music shop to get a new CD, but I really can't make up my mind. I like things like Evanescence, Tool, A Perfect Circle, all types of "dance" music, aka "techno", but mostly dark and fast, The Beatles, Metallica, Anti-Flag, The Distillers, Marilyn Manson, Nirvana, Flogging Molly, and Dropkick Murphys, to name a few. I was kinda thinkin about getting a new Tool CD, or a Perfect Circle CD, but I just cant make up my damn mind. So, if anyone has anything similar to this kinda stuff, or thinks I might like something you like, lemme know.

Yeha I have to agree with that last post. When I first started kissing, I felt like I was in the same s**t you are. Then, I just told myself to pull it together and kissed my gf on the lips. Again, agreeing with Lalaith, its not something you can be "taught," its just something that comes naturally. Of course, one peice of advice I can give you, that I have learned over the... um... past couple months-- close your eyes. It realy helps. Close them at the same time you touch lips. If you close em too soon, you risk "missing" and getting a bad kiss, if you do it too late, the girl thinks youre not serious and/or definitely dont know how to kiss, or that you dont have passion.

Wait. So bananas, now that scientists have found all these great things that they do for you, are they gonna be illegal now? I mean, they do basically the same thing as drugs: Make you feel good, give you energy, take away some pain.... Sooo.. .Yeah. But oreos.... they dont even give me a sugar high... Oh, wait nothing does. Hmm... Never mind.

Hmm... a SINGLE favorite character?? No can do. However, some of my favorites are Princess Mononoke, Ashitaka (from princess mononoke) Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X, Excel from Excel Saga... Princess mononoke because shes raised by wolves, and just plain kicks a**, as well as Ashitaka. Kenshin because I'm obsessed with Samurai. Excel because shes loud funny, good-looking, and different. So a single favorite character=not happening.

No. And the secreting endorphins thing? wow, looks like america has stumbled upon another drug. OOOh get this: bananas:
BANANAS After reading this You will NEVER look at a banana in the same way again ! Bananas. Containing three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost ofenergy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet. Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier. PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood. Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia. Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke. Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist lear ning by making pupils more alert. Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives. Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system. Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief. Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness. Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation. Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system. Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady. Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach. Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotion al temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer, tryptophan. Smoking: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal. Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack. Snacks: According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine,"eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40% ! Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape! So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills ! When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!" A new illicit drug for america ;)
Sorry, I know that had nothing to do with the sheer sexiness of oreos, but since I got onto the topic of oreos being Americas new Illicit drugs, I figured I might as well mention this!
First things first, dude you are reading way too far into it. The oreo cookie is just that, a cookie. Two crunchy chocolate outer pieces sandwiching a layer of creamy white...creamy stuff. Nothing more, nothing less. Next, "They sexify whoever eats them." not true. Otherwise, I'd most likely have my own personal harem by now. Lastly, just take it at face value. An extremely tasty, and errily addictive cookie snack. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must finish watching this hilarious flash toon, "Dad's Home." Goodbye.
Dude this thread was meant for awesomeness, not anti-awesomeness. (aka its a joke) I think that oreos are as awesome... as a supernova because there are no other cookies like them.,.. That are black and have... white... filling... Did you know: They have oreo stacking CONTESTS!?!??! yeah I got like 15... but someone got like 50. yeha I felt bad about myself then. Oreos are just plain goodness. They go well in or on ice cream, by themselves, in milk, to compliment chicken, to beautify our pantries, to serve as a boredom reducer... there are billions of different things oreos are great for. Oh, and yeah, theyre "America's Favorite Cookie."

I was gonna say this in my first thread, but I decided not to: I have played SSX 3 a LOT! I am going to buy that game as well AND, take a look at my siggy... it explains some things. As for MGs series, it is an awesome series, but rated M. Parents wont allow it. Yeah. But if you go to Merqury City Scoreboards >>>> http://merqurycity.com/ssx3/scoreboard/ssx3_bestscorestimesframe.html then youll see my name in the number five spot ^.^

Im sorry if a similar thread has been created, but if one has I couldn't find it. Ok. I'm sick and tired, bored and lulled by my game colection for the PS2. I need some ideas for games, not rated M, that you people reading this can suggest. I already have: Gran Turismo 3 Tokyo Extreme Racer 0 and 3 (GREAT racing games, BTW.) .Hack part 1 Final Fantasy x and X-2 Shaun Palmers pro snowboarder Silent Hill 3 (Please dont suggest #4. I am already planning on buyin it.) Also, I would appreciate if you denoted whether the game was online capable or not. Seeing as I have an adapter, I am looking for online titles as well. If you could please help me get the ideas of some games, I will be indebted to you fore- wait... no just for a few days until I beat the game. Thanks Merged this with the game recommendations thread, since they're basically the same thing. - Desbreko

Im not saying that theatre employees are not well educated, Im simply implying that some teenagaers really dont care if a younger child is admitted into a theatre. More and more these days are teens getting less and less responsible. I acknowledge that as a teenager myself.
-
The being accompanied by a parent rule is just a suggestion. The choices vary from Theatre to theatre on how they will conduct things. Personally, I have seen a movie theatre not care who gets into an R rated film at all. I have also been to a theatre that simply asks for permission of the parent for their child to see the movie. And I have been to theatres that require some adult buy your ticket and be in the theatre with you. Each movie theatre decides what it wants done in terms of kids seeing restricted films. So, I hope that everyone can clearly see that the movie theatres' restriction polocies are not an issue here.
Also keep in mind, Mischief, that some theatres hire workers that dont really give a s**t whether a little kid goes in or not. Sure, it might have to do with the theatres policy, but some people, teenagers, for example, who work there, think, "Ahh, whatever. I watch R rated films, so what's it gonna hurt if a year old sees the film?" So, what I am saying here is that a lot of the time it may not be the theatres restriction, but more of what the ticket salesman thinks is right. It's like any job: you'll have some slackers and some hard workers. It's just how things work.

Jesus. You two sound like a pair of bickering old people, trying to get to eat the string beans first. You are making such a big deal of it. You could have just stated which side youre on, and let that be the end. In fact, why don't we just do that. I'm against the damn system.
-
You mean other than to just pass life on? (Just kidding) I think that people love so that they can have something to feel secure about in life. Personally, with my girlfriend, I feel that we can talk about anything and when I, or she, needs someone to talk to, they will always be there. It's a sense of social... security and confidence, I guess you could say. So, why continue to love? Again, to ahve that place in your heart where you fel that you're accepted, because, whether or not you recognize it, eveyone wants to be accepted.

Ok... I know its already out, but I would have to say one of the most anticipated games that I have waited for was Silent Hill 4. The reason is this: I loved Silent Hill 3, and still do, by the way, so much that I'm practically hyperventialting over getting SH4. The game series is the scariest I have ever played (and yes, much scarier than Resident Evil. Resident evil is the type of scare that surprises you. In this game its like: youre walking in a construction site at night, you go into a bathroom (Not a porta-potty), then hear "step step step..." *clunk* *smash* *scream* and theres no one else there.. also, in one part there is a mannequin with a head in a room, and you walk around a shelf, hear a scream, go back and the head is chopped off, and blood everywhere. Scary. Oh, yeah and there are subliminal faces... i guess you could call them that anyway, in the walls.) This is the only game that has ever scared me ^.^

Ok, Sciros and Siren, i can appreciate where you are both coming from, and Siren your examples of quotes are kinda giving us all something to think about, but honestly, this thread is turning into a "love-hate" thread, if you will. In no way did I intend for this to become a world war controversy. i dunno, just seems that we're starting to get real pissy here. However, Sciros, I must admit, you are controversially debating your opinions, saying that you are for it, then against it, back for it, then not decided. I dunno. Back to the topic. Supposing we were to let a child see a violent movie, what bad or harm is going to come of it? I mean, maybe if we let them see a violent movie every day, no, even every week, then it could harm or corrupt them, but I mean letting them see a violent movie every once in a while isn't going to make them "oh-I-am-so-gonna-kill-you-because-of-the-way-you-look, you filthy b*****d" Like I have stated before, I have known no one who is "killingly violent", if you will, from a movie or video game. This is why it really should be the parents discretion if a child sees a movie. Then again, thinking about that, that is really al that the rating system is doing, because if you get a parent to come with you or whatever you can see it. Hmmm...
-
On a side note, I'd like to ask everyone: If you are for a system of restrictions set by theaters, is it because you don't want your child to see stuff he/she you disapprove of? Or is it also because you don't want other people's children to see stuff you disapprove of?
Well, for me, being 15 years of age, I can't really answer this question, but I can, however, answer with my parents... "ideas." Most of the time, in a scenario like one such as this, my parents would agree with the system because they don't want me AND other kids to see the content of such a movie. See, and this goes back to a memory of mine. Ok, so my brother was supposed to write a paper for his college English class about how the media affects children. In his paper he stated that its not the media, per se, that "corrupts" shildren, but more of their personal life. I mean, for me, playing games like Driv3r and GTA, Devil May Cry and the Silent Hill series, (which are all M rated games, BTW) doesn't make me want to go out and kill people. Instead, these games provide a relief for when I am mad or pissed off at something. Same goes for a lot of movies I watch: I get pissed off at someone or something, and I'll go watch Fight Club, or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, both of which are rated R. These kind of activities lower my anger level. Karate does too, but that's a different subject. So, what I am ultimately saying in this post is that by exposing a child to a violent movie/game, (s)he isn't going to go out and go on a killing rampage throughout the streets of their city because they think it's cool. I know I don't want to go out and kill everyone in my town for playing violent games, watching violent movies, and reading violent comic books (Johnny The Homocidal Maniac, Squee.)
-
Personaly, I agree here with Sciros DarkBlade. See, if we let our parents decide what movies we could and couldnt go to, I think that would bemore appropriate because our parents know more about what we can handle than just a general visualization of a group of people. However, there is a bad side to this. A child could just go into any movie he/she wants to, saying that their parents said it was ok, whether it was or not. To fix this, maybe we should have parents come with their child(ren) to the ticket counter, have the parents give verbal or written permission for the child to view the movie, then let the child in. Eh.. just lost my train of thought from here, but that is the general idea.

Er... I cant find the post I was going to quote but Oh well. What I was going to say is: Most bands these days (not all, but a lot of the popular stuff), the artists are making music for the money, so they can sit back, enjoy their "perfect life" and have girls all over them. Were ratting a lot on Good Charlotte and Avril Lavigne, so lets change artists. Brittney spears, 50 Cent, hmm... I am so not in the pop music world... who else does a lot of pop music? Anyway, people like them do music, like I said, for money. They dont do it because they like the music, per se! They go out, see that X Band is a hit, so they style their own music on that, because X Band is getting a lot of money, so they will. That is pretty much what is happening any more. Bands basing themselves on other bands. NO ONE FEELS PASSION ABOUT THE MUSIC THEY PLAY ANYMORE! THAT is why a lot of interesting music is dissapearing and you can listen to like 4 bands that sound the EXACT same when they say they made up their own music. On another note, I was watching Warped Tour Reunion '04 last night at my friends house, and Good Charlotte came on. You could see in their eyes that they weren't passionate about the music, but wanting to perform for money. You could also see that they werent singiong, but "syncing." Even I admit that the DJ's I listen to most of the time are starting to copy others work, and new DJ's are starting to copy others work. The world is getting flattened.

Ok, well all this brings me to my next point. Before I state this, I am saying this: I have no opinion on this next topic. Ok, so a movie comes out in the theatres, rated R. X amount of months later it goes on television. Now, before you blatently say "PARENTAL CONTROLS!!" think about this: Almost every person I know who pays for television does not have parental controls. Little Johnny wants to see X movie, rated R, and, since it is on TV, he can, because his parents dont have controls on. Now, such an example of this is at my friends house. My friend is 15, in tenth grade, like me, and has two younger siblings: a sister in 4th or 5th grade, and his little brother in 7th grade. Both of them, as far as I can remember, watch "R" rated movies on TV. Defeats the purpose of this restricted rating, no?
Question 1: What city do you live in? Where I live, there's barely anyone on the streets who isn't in a car. Therefore, there isn't any violence/language/sex. If you see that stuff every time you walk down the streed, then you probably live in the wrong part of town. Question 2: What school do you go to? At my school, the closest thing I've seen to sex is a couple talking about how much they love each other while looking out a window. As for swearing, saying so much as '****' gets a stunned silence from the entire class. And yes, I'm in high school. If your school is like an R-rated movie, it's probably not the greatest school. Personally, I think that the ratings are too lenient instead of too strict. If you dissagree, just go see Alien vs. Predator, which recieved a PG-13 rating, and see if you still dissagree.
1: I live in Park City, Utah. I go to a 9-12 grade school, about 2000 people I think. Park City has like 20,000 people all together, + or - a few thou. Plus, it is just normal behavior for a teenager to swear, have some sexuality, etc etc. 2: PCHS. The closest I have seen in terms of sex... lets see.. oh, yeah, I know a whole bunch of girls who have lost their virginity, many times in high school alone. As well, now I have no standpoint on this next statement, but according to Newsweek magazine, PCHS is one of the top 200 schools in the USA. To see someone not swearing here is like seeing someone walking down the middle of the street with a solid gold robot 5 stories tall next to him.
