Suppose it's time for Dawlish to finally show up then and estrange himself to the remaining members of his extended family he may have been on good terms with. Oh well, screw the rules I have money and all that jazz.
And a glamorous assistant to clean up the mess afterwords. No rich gentleman should be without his gold digger. I mean secretary.
2. DARK TOWER There are three arcs out at the moment; Gunslinger Born and Long Road Home both being in hardback now. Treachery is the current arc, but I think it'll be finishing soon. The art is done by Jae Lee and coloured by Richard Isanove. I ADORE Jae Lee's artwork, and he's also worked on X-Men, Batman, Fantastic Four and loads of others, so you may already be familiar with his work. The story is adapted from the fourth of seven novels by Stephen King, if you've ever heard of them, and are fantasy mainly, for genre, so maybe it isn't your thing. The story is so good though and the characters are so colourful I'd recommend them to anyone. 3. Currently I'm watching Code Geass R2, which is far more enjoyable than I at first thought it was going to be. My boyfriend and I watch them together, and I'm trying to get him to watch Gundam Wing next. If not, it'll be Black Lagoon or Gundam 00 next. I'm also watching the new Hellsing Ultimate OVAs. I have up to volume III, which I'll watch over the weekend. Hellsing makes me smile. I've loved it since I started reading the manga, and I think Ultimate is doing a pretty decent job. (Because, you know, Crispin Freeman. Unf.) Reading at the moment, weekly, is Eyeshield 21 and Bleach, and monthly is Deadman Wonderland. Also, Gurren Lagann Gakuen when it comes out sporadically.
4. I'm with everyone else on 'dork'. My boyfriend calls me a dork all the time, after I do something spastic (again, all the time). I'm actually the opposite to Darren in my immediate thoughts on a geek/nerd. To me, a geek is someone obsessed with sci-fi/anime/video-games etc to an unhealthy level. Like, I enjoy a lot of things and have my obsessions, but I wouldn't bestow the honour upon myself of saying I'm a geek. To me, a geek is an EXPERT title. You have to sacrifice things like food and general hygiene or something to watch that Star Trek marathon. Nerd is science/maths and other such intelligent, academic pursuits to do with numbers and equations. Again, applies when someone goes above and beyond the required knowledge in a subject. I honestly don't know if that's the official(??) definition for any of these things, it's just what springs to mind immediately. But someone could interchange geek/nerd and I would still know what they meant. Interestingly, Firefox objects to me typing 'geek' but not 'nerd'. HM.
5.
MANCHESTER! =D To summerise, my home rocks. Muchly. And I bet none of you knew any of this =p.
ALSO, JEREMY KYLE. I really need to go to Manchester more. The only times I've been there have been for concerts, which have always been a blast. I am probably one of the few UK females to have never gone shopping in Manchester, and people seem astounded when I say this. Is the Bird Cage there or am I just imagining things? I hear it's awesome and I want to go. @DeLarge: That would be the most underpopulated but AWESOME meet up ever. 8D This has actually been quite interesting. I'm sure a lot of us by now can remember vaguely where some others are from, but it's nice to know about those places, too, and appreciate the pride people have in their home cities/states. It's quite heart-warming.
6. Even before Dawlish had so rudely accosted her, Esther had known he wouldn?t have let her hand over those budget plans without some sort of weak protest. But she was ready, she always was, and even though she realised he would resent her professionalism, she knew jobs had to be done. It was what she was paid for, after all, and Esther couldn?t help but feel that if she didn?t still work as hard as she could, her generous salary was nothing more than Dawlish buying her company. And anyone would know what that meant. She allowed him to lead her a little way down the long, opulently decorated hallway before turning, pressing a hand against his chest firmly and giving him a stern look, trying to keep her lips from quirking up into a playful grin. ?Mr Almagest, I believe you have work to do. I?ll know if you haven?t done it,? she saw how he almost pouted, a man of his age, and rolled her eyes, moving her hands back to put them on her hips. ?Honestly, Dawlish. Just read the papers, please? I can deal with them tomorrow if you?re that distracted.? ?Ah, my love, you do know how to keep your man happy.? He seemed to move towards her again, but the look in Esther?s eyes told him to think otherwise. He bowed his head slightly, sighed, and cupped her cheek again lightly before turning back towards his office. Esther watched him go, knowing that he?d probably get through three pages before giving up, but at least he seemed to listen. Sometimes she missed his old demeanour, when he?d hardly pay attention to anything apart from his company business and his weapons. Perhaps she had spoiled him too much. But for now, that was neither here nor there, and as her boss disappeared back into his office Esther headed towards her room. She reached up to untie her hair as she stepped inside, kicking off her plain, flat shoes casually as she padded over the polished wooden floor, before feeling the thick rug under her feet. She had tried to resist Dawlish spoiling her with gifts and a larger suite, they were supposed to be a secret, after all, but the few luxuries she had in her quarters were a comforting touch. The dress that lay on her bed was stunning, one of the finest she had ever seen of the Grimoire company's creations, though the fact it was hers probably made her slightly biased in that assessment. She stroked her fingers over the fine, dark purple silk, feeling the coarser lace lining that edges of the bustier, smiling faintly at the very thought of being seen in something like this. Even on her salary, if she and Dawlish weren?t so close there was no possible way she would have been able to afford this outfit otherwise. That was a perk, she had to admit. As she ran her bath and washed her hair, Esther couldn?t help but ponder on their relationship. She knew Dawlish sometimes didn?t understand her forced professionalism, her insistence on telling no one, not even her mother or brothers, whom she had always thought she could tell everything. Not only was the age gap so dramatic, though she supposed not unheard of, it was the nature of Dawlish?s work, and the reason for his huge fortune, that upset her mother, especially. She didn?t like Esther working for the man, and would likely faint if she found out they were sleeping together. But Esther never felt she could tell Dawlish this, and when he asked she would simply shrug it off, shuffle awkwardly and change the subject, or distract him with kisses and caresses. Even she wasn?t sure if that was the whole reason, and often had moments like this when she would just think. She knew she loved him, but she also knew that she had never experienced love before, at least not like this, and not with a man who, supposedly, understood how adult relationships worked. To what extent Esther didn?t feel comfortable asking. As the bathwater began to cool, Esther realised she?d been thinking far too long, examining her hands and groaning at the way her fingertips had wrinkled. Pulling herself out quickly she began drying her hair and making the most basic of preparations, creams and powders and perfumes, to make herself feel more respectable. It was only when she had managed to wriggle her way into the dress, standing in front of the mirror with her hair pinned up tightly, that she frowned at the idea of what ridiculous plans Dawlish had for this ?exciting? public display. She sighed deeply and cupped the back of her neck, the skin feeling hot with nerves under her touch. Her stomach was a mess, too, and she wasn?t sure of how she?d be able to hold out this whole event without running away and hiding. With Dawlish at her side, she hoped, it would be more bearable, but even then she would still be his assistant, nothing more, nothing less. Barely a friend in the public eye. She heard voices in the corridor outside and supposed Dawlish?s team were letting him know of final preparations, last check-ups and, she almost hoped, failures that would put this whole silly thing off. Sometimes she wondered if he was more trouble than he was worth.
7.
I live in a small(ish) town called Reading
READING. My dad lives there. 8D I actually quite like it when I go to visit. There are a lot of nice areas in easy driving distance to go walking in. I, myself, live in a suburb of Liverpool, European Capital of Culture 2008. On the downside, Liverpool is known for a high rate of violence and thievery, which I...won't deny, as I'm not a native. I don't like it here. But some redeeming features are the gorgeous architecture, the highly rated universit(ies), and the two Cathedrals on either end of Hope Street. Oh, the football club, too. I suppose they deserve a mention. And the Beatles. I was born in Cape Town, South Africa, though, and still consider it my home even if I probably won't ever be able to go back. I've also lived in Essex, Thailand and Johannesburg. My dad's a contract engineer, so we used to move with his job, which was lovely.
8. The realism ones are absolutely stunning! I think I like the one with the little girl the best, for the detail you put into the wicker basket and her hair. The second one is amazing, too, but I've never been as captivated by still life, even though I can appreciate the skill. For the anime one, I'm not as hot on. I think if you can carry off realism to the amazing level you can, it would be nice to see it implemented in a more cartoony style, rather than going pure anime with the big shoujo eyes and the sparkles. Like SPX said, that may just be personal preference, though. I do, however, envy your use of copics. I can never understand how people manage to make them look so soft and well blended. The hair especially is lovely.
9. Hey guuuys. Some of you may remember me, as I used to lurk here some time ago, but it's time for me to ask of you all for a banner/avatar set. I've pretty much forgotten to how to make my own, and checking threads like these is like opening presents on christmas. 10. As with everyone else, I don't see a problem with hugging and kissing. Also, I don't see it as bragging. The point of being with a person isn't to think OH GOD I MUST HIDE OUR LOVE FROM THOSE WHO ARE WATCHIIIING. It's to show each other with subtle affection that you care, and exactly to NOT be ashamed/worried/nervous/whatever about doing so in public. Saying that, you do get couples who are, quite obviously, trying to show off. I have seen some, usually older, clinging to each other as they walk down the street, grinning at anyone who looked their way. But, you know, it's their right. More power to them if they have someone to shop with and I don't.
11. Your name: Esther Blake Your age: 26 Your connection to the Almagest or Achard family: Esther is personal assistant to Dawlish Almagest, handling his busy schedule and trying constantly to keep him on it. Your portrait: Your occupation/location: Esther began working at Icarus Industries when she was 23, with a view to becoming an experienced weaponsmith to support her three older brothers in Fort Blanc. She did not initially find herself fitting in well, and so turned her sights to management and finances. From there she was ?spotted? by Dawlish Almagest as Icarus grew in size and importance, and she was given the position she now holds, as his personal assistant. While she would like to say that she owns a modest home in Le Monde, living with her elderly mother and her younger brother, she is, in truth, wherever Dawlish is. She jokes that he has made her a drifter. Your Story: Esther has always considered herself lucky to have been born into a family that took great pride in their name and reputation. It is because of this that she and her four brothers were made to work their hardest and to the best of their abilities, in whatever fields they found themselves in. Esther, taking after her father, a banker, showed an interest in the less arduous paths in life, finding comfort in music and numbers above physical activity. As such was sent to Lumière Academy, in the hopes that should would study music and make a name for herself. While Esther studied orchestral composition and an expansive history of Anovian culture, her three older brothers trained and worked in Fort Blanc tirelessly, steadily gaining more glowing pride and admiration from the rest of her family. It came about that, despite her parents? attempts at being fair to all their five children, the three brothers policing the streets and striving for military success became the favourites. Esther?s younger brother, too, joined Fort Blanc when he was of the right age, leaving Esther as the last cultured member of her family, or so she?d like to say. Her stubbornness did not last long, however, and she eventually found herself at Icarus Industries, as soon as the opportunity presented herself. She was not quite equipped with the body and mind of a soldier, but saw an opportunity to help her brothers and country through making the weapons Fort Blanc so frequently invested in. Of course, her current career goes to show just how little sticking power Esther has in most facets in life. When her hands ached and her arms were bruised from handling metal and tools, she tried her hand at number crunching, finding herself a much more comfortable and less nerve-wracking job behind a desk, dealing with Dawlish Almagest?s budget. Only after quite a few months did she get the courage up to approach the man himself and suggest that he was, perhaps, being a little too spend-thrift in his dealings. When Esther first met with Dawlish, she found in him a person she could aspire to, despite his increasingly more outrageous stunts. She found him exciting, and fascinating, and seemed to feed off his creative energy and grim determination in his craft. It?s because of this that, for the first time, she truly strived for something, that being a position in Dawlish?s inner circle. Her hard work paid off and Dawlish eventually hired her as his personal assistant, seemingly glad to have someone to deal with the messy, small details while he could concentrate on the more important matters of his creations, even if he was at first bemused by her boundless enthusiasm for monetary matters, and making him spend less of it. Esther still holds a very close relationship with her family, especially her younger brother. Her father passed away in the last few months, leaving her with a comfortable amount of money kept safe for when she eventually decides to settle down. While her older brothers are increasingly travelling more and training harder, she lives in the family home with her mother and brother, when he?s away from Fort Blanc. She is of the opinion that a person should live every day to its fullest, and this is especially true since the passing of her father. As such, she has always, regardless of current occupation, made time for writing and playing music, giving her time to escape, and this is no different now than when she was a child. As always, things are subject to change, but I doubt it will be anything major. At least, I hope not. Unless Gavin has some complaints ): He hasn't been on yet but I want to get this up, seeing as it's done.
12. *returns* Vicky, your hair is epic. I've just spent, like, half an hour of my (clearly wasted) life going through this thread and you are still the most amazing person in it. None of these are particularly recent, because I'm camera phobic, but HAVE A LOOK ANYWAY From oldest to newest; GLASSES FUNNY FACE PRE HAIRCUT (also, ridiculous static? idk) POST HAIRCUT The only difference from when those were taken is that my hair is longer. I'm such a boring person ):
13. Oh god, oh god, I wasn't expecting to do one so soon D: Someone else can grab it because I won't have the time. I don't want to hold this up by taking ages to do a piece. At least I know now how it's working so I can jump in a bit later. Thanks jigglyness!
14. So, I have no idea what number or anything we're up to in this, but I'd like to join in again. If someone could tell me when I need to watch out for it, that would be good? Thank yoooou.
15. Think of your 'hatred' for your art as a gift, honestly. When I was about thirteen I thought I was AMAZING at art. Seriously, like the best person ever because every one said I was really good and I let it go to my head. I was rubbish. I didn't draw chins, no folds in clothes, my colouring was awful etc. I didn't improve because I thought I was great until someone said to me 'are you jealous because your friends are better than you?' That was the first time anyone had put me down, because he wasn't my friend and wasn't bothered about being polite. Since then I have on and off loathing for my art, but it's because of that I get better. So basically, I'm trying to say use this dislike to better yourself, not turn you away from something you love. As my boyfriend always says when I'm angsting: If you don't like it, make it better. (Also, show us some of your stuff 8D)

Can't find a really good quality Hakkai stock, which disturbs me, because I'm sure there used to be pictures all over the place. Hn. Hope this is okay~
17. Dunno if this is what you were looking for. Let me know if you want changes or anything. :)
18. Am I the only one not surprised by Gavin's comment? Clearly I've known him for far too long. I'm not proud of many things, in that I don't think about them. I don't pat myself on my back and say I've done a good job, I work on things until others do that for me. Being proud only leads to the opportunity to get cut down. Saying that, I have a few things: -My recent AS level results, I managed to get myself three A grades and one D, which is a little bit of a blip but one I'm not too worried about. Chemistry was a bum, anyway. I didn't think I'd do so well and ended up doing better than friends I know for a fact are smarter than me. I just worked a lot harder. -I'm at the point now, almost, where I can say I'm honestly happy with how I look and don't care if others aren't. I am me, and that's all that should matter. It's taken me too long to realise that. -I'm over halfway through my novel, and I've never stuck at one thing for so long without getting bored. Maybe I'm starting to grow up at last.
19. Name: Nara Temari Age: 38 Gender: Female Physical Description: Temari Temari is still similar to her old self, though having done away with the top two pigtails she used to sport, having only the bottom a little longer, though still just as spikey. She wears a basic black kimono with boots reaching to her knees, the toes exposed like most other ninja. She also now wears a long red scarf around her neck and middle which acts as not only a nice accessory but is looped to be a comfortable holder for her fan. She will still wear the Sunagakure forehead protector when on missions, never forgetting her roots, though is also fiercely loyal to Konoha, home being where the heart is. Weapons: Giant iron fan, that acts as a club as well as the known fan, which can be used as a glider. Fighting Style: Temari is a skilled analyst, second only to her husband, Shikamaru. Due to this, her approach to battle suits the opponent and environment she is presented with. She can use her fan as a blunt weapon, or use it's specialised powers and combine with her chakra to use wind techniques. Jutsu/Techniques: As she folds out more of her fan, more of its 'stars' (the purple circles) are revelaed, leading to more power. The more she has, the better the techniques she can use. Once all three stars are revealed, she can use the Kamaitachi no Jutsu (Cutting Whirlwind Technique) or the more powerful Daikamaitachi no Jutsu (Great Cutting Whirlwind Technique). She can also summon a weasel, Kamatari, to create strong gusts of wind for her in battle, as well as other wind techiques to blind the opponent or trap them. Short Biography: After growing quite close to the ninja of Konoha, Temari had no real problems with moving to the village when her then long-term partner Nara Shikamaru asked her to marry him, quite unexpectedly. Though she still holds her relationship with her brothers and her country dear, the people of Konoha are just as important to her. Still a hard working ninja, Temari struggled at first to fit into the routine of married life, though knowing Shikamaru wasn't handling it that much better certainly calmed her fears they weren't actually meant for each other. Their relationship was one not many expected to last out, due to her quick temper and sharp tongue and Shikamaru's laziness and apparent disinterest in anything remotely romantic. However, it's probably due to their quirks that the couple have been together for such a long time, and now Temari couldn't be happier in her life. She has continued to grow stronger, especially now she has someone she loves dearly to protect, and is one of the respected, high-rank ninja in Konoha. She didn't expect to be asked to lead a Cell of Genin, though happily took the chance when she found out her husband would be doing the same. The pair still constantly challenge each other, so Temari views this as her chance to gain the upper hand once again, determined to lead her squad to great glory and have them graduate as Chuunin before her husband's do. As a team leader she is stern and passionate for missions, pushing her young team to go past their breaking points and reach new levels. If they happen to come across each other with their students, Temari will bicker with Konohamaru and tease Shikamaru, always having been a strong woman since she was young, always eager to exert her self-professed supremacy over the two men.
20. Yes, birthday PMs will be expected. As Des pointed out, my birthday is on January 4th. I don't share it with many people I myself recognise, so here's a choice few: -Emperor Zhezong of Song Dynasty in China -Sir Isaac Newton, English mathematician and natural philosopher -Jakob Grimm, German philologist and folklorist -Louis Braille, French inventor of braille -1893 - Yone Minagawa, Japanese, became worlds Oldest living person January 29, 2007. And there are many more, a lot of artists and composers, it seems.
21. I'm honestly very glad of the decision you made, Sandy. Shy put a lot of effort into the article and despite my best digging all I could get was some extra info from James in the form of a PM. He put in a lot of effort to get as much as he did. I'm dissapointed in my team, one person didn't reply to a single PM, others just appeared to lose interest. It's a shame to lose out at this point, but I'm really, really pleased the better team won. Good luck you three, it'll be hard to decide on the winner!
22.
Good The article was very comprehensive, and written in a style that was clear to understand with subheadings and appropriate links. A format like this means anyone looking for specific information, dates, etc could find it pretty easily. The links in themselves were a positive all alone. They lead to outside information that others could find interesting and informative pertaining to the subject at hand, especially when outside opinions seemed to be involved. The date system lead to a style of article that was like one that was found in a textbook, rather than a big block of text like others. Seeing as the forum was quite old, it would be good for members who weren?t around for as long to be able to see a timeline of how it developed, or, as was pointed out, perhaps didn?t. Bad The article was long and ?fluffed up? with a lot of information that has nothing to do with the Yu Yu Hakusho forum. Frequently, I found myself thinking I was reading a general article on ?separate forums? For example, the deviation to the Suggestion and Feedback thread and a more general background on the other forums around at the time. A lot of information was taken from interviews with Shy and others, rather than occasionally referred to. It would have been much more reassuring to see the information conveyed more factually with occasional quotes from Shy dropped in to enforce your writing, rather than big chunks of text taken straight from what he said, making it seem like less effort was put into the writing. As far as the linking goes, if there was information that was important enough to be linked, then possibly filtering it into the article itself would have been better. If it didn?t have much to do with the Yu Yu Hakusho forum then they weren?t really necessary at all. Overall The article was clearly very impressive and well written, with everything catalogued nicely by date. However, it seems as though the Sunflowers took all the information they found even surrounding the YYH forum and put it all in, even though a lot of it only alluded to the subject at hand. The article could have been a lot more concise, and some points appeared to be repeated. The ending comments, for example, are all basically the same. I see they were just trying to make a point that, yes, people found it ?spammy?, but there seemed a lot of text to say just that when smaller quotes would have been sufficient.
Woah, yes, finished at 2:17 of the AM. 8D Damn, I'm good. Sorry to have taken so long, little bit of confusion and such on the team caused a delay.
23. I wasn't going to join as I don't have my tablet with me for the next ten or so days but, uh, yeah. Can't resist. Last time was so much fun, and very good practice. Glad you've started us off once again 8D.
24. Same, Shy, same. I'm out for most of today, as I get my exam results in...er...under two hours. OH GOD. After this I'll be under significantly less stress so I can work full-steam on the article. Just tell me what you need me to do, cap'n.
