1. Me! Me! >> I bought Sin City a while ago and I adored it. I wanted to make an RP, too, but I wasn't really sure how to go about doing it. If you would have me, I'd love to work on this with you. =) I had only a couple of ideas that weren't very unique, but if you just want someone to brainstorm with, I'm here. I'd love to see this get done.
2. I always find that buying for guys is helluva lot harder than girls. 'Tis annoying, when I'm staying with one for two weeks this Christmas. =/ My mum's getting an assortment of nice candles and a square display plate to put them on. I've also bought her a wooden frame and drawn a picture of her favourite flowers to put in it. Hopefully she likes it. My friends are getting...things that aren't expensive because I'm selfish. I'm buying them in America, so ULX has lots of shopping to look forward to. I bought my dad socks (yes, yes I did) and a nice, thick jumper. I also bought him incense sticks because...well, let's not go there. ULX is getting...various things which I hope he likes, and I'm getting lots of money...apparently. I'm also getting a new mobile phone (yay!), Terry Pratchett books and silly little gift things to do with sheep, no doubt. And CDs, lots of them. The reason I know what I'm getting is because my family ask me. There will be little silly things my mum buys me as stocking fillers that I don't know about, but I usual have an inkling as to what my main presents are.
3. Just letting you all know that I'm happy with the sign ups so far (and I look forward to yours, Alex). I know a couple of others have told me they'd be signing up, and I was going to leave this open for quite a while anyway. I won't be starting this until late next week, so keep your eyes open. I'll edit this with my sign up when my muse returns. =/
4. Phone calls are always nice, I find. ULX and I have been together ten months now and I know he loves me very much, but we've never done anything amazingly special online (At least, not in a general idea. The personal things we talk about mean so much to me). There are a couple of things, like nice little e-mails on anniversaries that do the trick. He sent me one on our two months and I still cry when I read it, hell, my mum even cries. That man has a way with words, heh. Words are the only thing you have in a relationship like yours and quite a few others, so it's a matter of trying to use them to your advantage, without sounding corny or anything. It?s the little gestures, I guess, that shows the person you're wanting to spend some of your time on them when you could be doing things in your life where you live with other friends. At least, that's how I view it.
5. I agree with all of the above. Like to add my two cents, too, if you don't mind. =) Suggestion 1: Don't save as a JPEG file. This may be a personal thing, but I hate them with a passion. I know it saves on how much space you use but I often find that JPEGs lower the quality of a high resolution graphic, making it look pixelated. Like the way your text is, for example. Save the file as a PNG, it uses a little more space, but preserves the quality. Suggestion 2: Have a look at some tutorials or just sit down and mess with a blank canvas. That's what I done, it's fun and lets you discover things about your program. Suggestion 3: Don't be confidened by things like bass pallette colours and gradients. When I first started making banners I used what PSCS gave me and they were looking plain, but as soon as you start messing with filters and brushes it works wonders. Last Thing: The edges of your image look rough, which is bound to happen until you're used to extracting things. I suggest using a smudge tool or soften (blur? I can't remember what Photoshop calls it). The tool will make your edges look smooth and blend in with the background. That turned out being more than I planned, but I hope it helped. =/ Remember, experimenting is the best way to learn. Like the others I'm eager to see what new graphics you come up with. If you ever want any pointers or suggestions, feel free to drop me a PM. ^_^
6.
I really really don't like those Hercules Beetles... They kinda freak me out, sorry Derald =( I do, though, like all types of Orb Weaver Spiders. My favorite being the most common of them, the Argiope.
I ran into one of those, once. While I was lost in a field on safari. Scariest moment of my life? Yes. I looked down to see one of those on my arm and made my friend hit it with a stick...while screaming hysterically. I don't like spiders very much. =/ I do however like snails. =D Why? Simply because they're adorable. I used to keep pet snails when I was younger and I had a little 'snail circus' in an old wooden drawer out in my back garden. One of the snails was called Speedy, how cute and cliché is that? Haha. I don't know anything about snails, really, but someone once told me that certain snails eat each other. Dunno if that true, but when I tried to start my snail village in a cupboard, I opened the doors to find empty shells. Probably due to the lack of oxygen and heat. I thought I was being kind. (It was that big one, he ate them!) ;_;
7. Save the banner and avatar to your computer, then upload it to a site like Photobucket [link]. That site will give you all the URLs you need to upload the banners. Hope that helped =)
8. Just letting you know, Wraith, that I'm very interested in joining this RP. I won't be able to come up with my sign up tonight, (Tonight being Thursday) but hopefully by the weekend I'll have it done. I thought I should let you know, in case you considered starting without me. (Haha, I'm not that vain) Hope I make the cut, when my sign up is complete. PS: I agree with Gavin, nice idea here, and I do love superheroes. Edit: Regretfully, I won't be signing up. I have much to be done before I leave on Thursday and I don't want to hijack ULX's computer for too long...besides, the power I was planning on having has been taken. Pity, really. Good luck with this, Wraith.
9. Beth smiled gently as Helios rested her back to the earth. His eyes had flickered briefly to her shoulder, but one nod from the woman told him that he was not to worry about her for the moment. Beth managed to raise herself to her elbows, wincing as pain shot down her side. She hissed and felt her head spin before she fell back to the sand, a puff of dust swirling around her head. She could faintly smell the scent of her blood mixed with sweat and adrenaline. She closed her eyes and wheezed as she drew a breath before she slipped into unconsciousness. When Beth came to her senses she was in a large bed, a comforting heat and pressure on her stomach and a dull ache in her shoulder. She couldn?t remember anything from the battle, except? ?Helios?? she whispered softly, her lips dry from sleeping with her mouth open, no doubt, it had always been a bad habit. She choked suddenly on the cold air before the pressure on her stomach lifted and Beth peered down to see Helios smiling groggily up at her. He flashed her than usual smile that set her fears at ease and rested his palm on her cheek. Beth smiled and brought a heavy hand up to rest it on Helios? before she relaxed again. ?Thank you, Helios, you saved my life.? ?Not at all, Elizabeth, I merely aided the process. Orlok was more than capable of handling a few stinking Knubrap, I?m sure.? ?You?re so modest, Helios.? Beth tried to touch his face, but the throbbing in her shoulder caused her arm to lose strength half way, and she ended up slipping her fingers down Helios? neck to rest on his shoulder. She mumbled crossly to herself and pulled back her hand, holding it to her chest. Helios chuckled at her pout and squeezed his friend?s hand. ?Always so stubborn, Beth. The doctor says you need rest.? ?We can?t,? Beth protested, ?We must meet with Kuroichi. I can heal on the plane and a Gwyar doctor can see me in Japan.? ?Beth?? ?We have to get there!? Helios yelped as Beth threw his hand back and tried to lurch up out of bed, stumbling a little as she attempted to find her feet. ?This means a lot to me Helios?I?m not a damsel in distress.? Beth gave Helios a pleading, yet meaningful, look as she sat, hunched slightly on the edge of the bed. She flexed her fingers and cast her eyes around for her shinai, attempting to stand again. ?So stubborn?? OOC: Justice, Mugen, do what you will. I know I moved the fight, but feel free to do a flashback or something. It would be awesome if we could head off to Japan in the next couple of posts and maybe meet with Kuroichi there. Hope this post was okay, you two, I know it was pretty much all fluff, but I have a soft spot for romance. ^_~
10. Kuja had to admit that he felt a little...uneasy around men. Especially men like CJ and Shadow. Who were angry often. And had guns. Kuja whimpered. Mario patted him on the shoulder and gave him a helpful smile, possibly thinking that Kuja was missing his old team. In actual fact, he was terrified that one of these barbarians was going to make fun of him. Then it happened. "So, you, da one wid da hair," Kuja looked up and fluttered his eyelashes as a 'Who, me?' gesture. CJ nodded, "Yah, you. So...you really a dude? I mean, no 'fence, if that's what'ya, y'know, into...jus'..." he seemed to falter and cast his eyes downwards. "I think what he means, is, why do you look like a chick?" Fox asked, seemingly politely. Kuja blushed and brought a hand up to his forehead daintily. He noticed Shadow roll his eyes and bit on his bottom lip nervously. "I just...feel comfortable this way. B-But I can do things," he smiled hopefully, "I once tried to kill my brother and his friends if that's any help?" Mario sighed and shook his head, while Kuja tried to understand just why everyone was looking at him that way. ?So?tea, anyone??
11. Just letting you know that I'll be finishing this tomorrow. I have tried and tried again to make your banner but Paint Shop Pro has closed itself out four times now for no reason what-so-ever. I'm going to have a huge headache if I attempt to do anything again. I'll edit this post with your set tomorow. Edit: Gah, these both suck so bad. I know I haven't followed exactly what you wanted, hell, I couldn't even work with the pictures you provided. I'm really sorry, I'm obviously not on the ball with banner making lately u_u Banner- Avatar-
12. I just felt I'd ask: The first picture you provided is really pixelated, I'm just wondering if you really want that picture, or if another one of the group would be suitable that was maybe a higher quality? I'll get to this as soon as I have your answer. =)
13. First of all: omfg, the pants are love. I like your style, too, but there's a couple of points I'd like to point out. With the hand, I agree with r2vq in that it looks a little off, I do believe it's because the positioning of where you're started the thumb and where the knuckles are is out of proportion, which makes the hand look too big when in actual fact, the thumb and knuckles are too far back. The 'back of the hand' should be longer and the wrist should be more defined. It?s a simple mistake; I do it a lot too. x.o Also, the face looks a little too wide to me, but that could be your style so I'm not going to say it's wrong. I know people's style varies so maybe I'm just being picky. ^_^; Apart from that, I love the pic. The position is interesting and you have lovely little details on the clothes. I hope you don't mind, but I'd like to watch you on devART. ^_^ Edit: Just looked at the pic again, and I think the reason why I thought the face was too wide is because of the position/width of the neck. My mistake, sorry. x.x
14. Here's an idea: get a puppy. I'm underaged, so I've never been drunk or anything. Personally I don't see the point; I've had alcohol, but only in small amounts. The thought of being drunk enough to 'escape from reality' doesn't seem all too appealing to me, what with the hangover, vomiting and splitting headache. Very attractive.
15. I haven't been posting because I have no idea of what situations to put Quincy in. =/ Just pretend he's at home or something, I'll pull him back in at the start of the dance and do a little flashback. I have been reading through the posts, there was just no where for Quince to fit in. Sorreh.
16. *is now teh sad* I actually had tears in my eyes at one point there...you meanie. u_u I think having me kill myself was a surprisingly good choice on your part, it kept the drama going, put the scene to a nice (haha, but not really >>) end and kept me in character. I'm sad Trevor and I had to fight, but at least we didn't hate each other while fighting, if you get my point. I do believe the writing of this has gotten better as the chapters have progressed, so well done.
17. This is a discussion/question thread. I realise I made it pretty vague as to what terraine the group of travellers would be crossing, but imagine it to be like a constant, dry wasteland. No green trees, just caves, putrid water and volcanoes. You know what I'm getting at. Mountains, too. Yeah, lots of those. This will probably come in handy moreso when the RP actually starts so people can discuss what's going on between their characters. And of course, if in doubt, feel free to ask me anything you want to know.
18. Distopia A group of scientists and leaders sat stone-faced around a large table. Each of them were focussed on a dusty screen in the centre of the table, a small laptop recovered from the Bad Lands on an expedition ten days ago. One of the scientists, a man with youthful looks but weary eyes, leant over to switch on the video that had been found on the laptops hard-drive. He sat back against as the video crackled to life and rested his chin on his knuckles, his expression turning to one of worry as a man?s face showed, his eyes sunk and his skin sweaty and pale as he spoke hurriedly into the webcam to record his account. ?It?s growing darker outside as I record this, th-the clouds must be moving in faster than we expected. I?m not sure what year it is, or even what day?the sky is always twilight and the sun is never out?there?s no way to tell time, it?s maddening.? He gasped and his eyes twitched away from the camera as it crackled again before he continued speaking, his tone more urgent than before. ?We were here on an expedition to d-discover the Old City, it?s rumoured that there?s an old hospital here that still holds many useable medicines that our people need for survival,? another break in transmission and the camera is adjusted, ?There was supposed to be food there, too but?we must have gotten lost, because all we found was a bunker full of only two days supply of tinned food. It must be an old military base or something.? He gulped and his breath quickened as it became obvious he was finding it hard to breathe. ?We were ambushed by creatures, no, monsters that seemed to be human but just?just couldn?t have been. There must have been an accident, but I don?t know what?s going on anymore. We called them Drifters, those of us who are left. They killed two of our men and dragged away the bodies; Christ in Heaven knows what will be done to those poor people?? something in the background seemed to hiss, like gas escaping a pipe. ?I?m almost out of time here, the storm is directly over us now. I?m leaving this video to warn you that this situation will only get worse, as you no doubt realize. If our calculations are correct then we missed our target by miles and ended up far east of the Old City. The medicine will still be there, in the hospital, and countless stores of food should be left, too. There is no other record of these findings because our government was too arrogant to even take notice of a few eccentric scientists?please, whoever you are, if you want your people to have a hope of living?find the Old City restore the trade routes. It?s your only hope.? Finally the transmission ended for the final time and the screen went blank. Worried faces glanced at each other for some kind of idea of what to say, but no words could be found. This video was groundbreaking and life saving and all present knew that they should listen to it. One man stood and nodded to his colleagues, ?We?ll form a team? *** The year is unknown and time is hard to tell now. The only way the last of humanity manages to keep some sort of track on their miserable planet is by the coming of the storms. They signal the start of a new year, humans can only guess, and they have manage to keep a primitive sort of calendar based on this fact. This world that has been created is a by-product of nuclear war is an utter wasteland. Human ignorance made it the way it is, and now only a few humans still survive. 186, to be exact, and they all live in one area, the only area to still contain fresh water and semi-fertile soil. It is, in fact, the only place that ever gets any sunlight. For a short amount of time every Storm-Year, sun break through the passing death clouds and showers the land with rays. It?s the only time of the year people feel truly safe. The Drifters are a race of devolved humans, those who, instead of hanging onto their humanity and trying to save the planet, adapted and changed so that they thrived where humans failed. They don?t need water or natural food such as fruit and vegetables. They survive on flesh and blood and bone marrow is a speciality for them. Farming is now a speciality and only certain buck have managed to survive through all that as happened. They are now tamed and on the day when sun breaks through, people eat meat. For the rest of the Storm-Year they try to ration the needed food. Corn is the main produce the humans can get to grow, but peas and tomatoes also do well. All of these plants have changed from their predecessors, as they?ve had to adapt to the new soil and lack of water. Most vegetables, for example, have much tougher skins and don?t contain as much water as they used to. The Old City was a myth to the current generation of humans, but the discovery of a video from long ago made it certain that there was such a place. If it is found, so much help will be able to be sent to the remaining humans, and what?s left of the city will be built up again in an attempt to start re-building the planet. The Leaders are forming a team of six people, each of them specialists in their own field. They will be sent on a trek to find the Old City and bring back vital medicine and food for their fellows. But there are many perils besides the Drifter out in the Bad Lands, and the group of human travellers will have to cross uncharted land and maybe even have to battle through a Storm. The lands are dominated by beasts unknown to humans, beasts that stalked the land billions of years ago? Not everyone in the team may come back home safely, but one thing is for sure, the success of this mission decides humanities fate. *** Okay then, my last RP bombed, so I?m hoping this works better. (Note to self: Chapter system=not good.) I'd like to clear something up about these Storm clouds (death clouds). They really are deadly. Imagine them to be akin to pyroclastic flow (that reall nasty stuff volcanoes have a tendancy to vomit up). They burn, they carry ash and sand, which you breath in. They choke out the sun because they're so thick and they're made up solely or carbon dioxide. More than a minute in there and you're a goner. I?m going for a different approach to the sign ups in this, so you?ll have to work a little harder to impress me. And, like all of my RPs, I value quality of players over quantity. I?d like 6, including myself, but if I don?t have five others who I feel are up to snuff, then I simply won?t have five. I?ll choose as many as I see fit. Equally, if there are more than five really good sign ups, I?ll gladly take more in. With hat said, the sign up: I?d like your sign up to be done in the following format: I short story. I know that sounds a bit much, but hear me out. Instead of having the usual name, gender, biography lot, I?d like you to incorporate all of these things into a piece of writing and present that to me as your sign up. You can write it however you want, but I need to get a feel for your characters and what his/her skills are. The things I?ll need you to cover in the writing are: ?Characters name ?Approx age ?Personality and how they act with others ?Profession/skills (Some old professions will still apply, like a doctor or scientists, but think about the land you?re in, there isn?t going to be much need for a surgeon, so apply skills in more inventive occupations) ?Rough outline of their history, beliefs in Old City, motivations, etc. And that should be it, I?ll post my story later on in the week and I look forward to seeing the sign ups. Oh, one last thing. Seeing as there are just under 200 people left in the world (that we know of) I seriously encourage character interaction. If you?re in the middle of writing your short story, then post it so others can see where you?re going with it. Talk with others in the Underground, discuss relationships between characters. Have fun with the storylines, you know? One last note: Short stories don?t have to be novels, but I?d like all sign ups written in font size 2, black text and about a page and a half in word minimum would be good. Edit: Jokopoko has raised a couple of questions which I should have added beforehand (my apologies). Despite the fact there isn't an exact year, imagine this to be Middle 21st century. Also, the capabilities for very advanced technology is there, but the parts aren't. However, it's rumoured that the Old City has more than enough rescources to start building new things. Edit2: (Not doing well, am I?) I forgot to mention that, if you can, attach a picture of what your character looks like. If you can fit their appearance into your sign up, then you don't need to. Garg, afterthoughts are a *****.
19. Elizabeth took her cloak from the small pile of bags on the floor and crossed to the doorway, locking her room before she stepped into the corridor to meet Orlok. He smiled and bowed his head in greeting as she walked to his side, sweeping his arm out to let her go first. 10 minutes of walking later and the temperature seemed to drop. Elizabeth shivered slightly and drew her cloak closer around her as a cool breeze played over her skin. Orlok was seemingly unaffected, but as Elizabeth looked up she noticed, with a certain amount of shock, that his eyes were bright and steely with alertness. He had sensed, or smelt, something and all his senses seemed to be on fire. "Elizabeth..." he muttered to his companion, "I do believe we have company. Have your brought your sword?" Elizabeth nodded and reached into her cloak, her shinai was strapped to the middle of her back so it was hidden from view. She drew the wooden blade and let it hang loosely at her side, her fingers gentle but ready on the hilt. Suddenly a piercing laugh permeated the thick Indian air and, as Orlok snarled and cast his gaze to the sky, he saw the flash of red eyes and the swoop of a dirty and ripped cape. "Knubrap." he growled as he whirled on his heel to face their foe. All five of them. Elizabeth gasped as she noticed more of the stinking vampires appear, her grip on the shinai tightening as her gaze flickered over all their faces. She hadn't been in real battle before, and these creatures looked serious. She backed up to Orlok so her back pressed against his. She knew there was a chance that the Knubrap would be able to tell she was scared, and the thought only made her feel more uneasy. "Elizabeth, stick close, I won't let them hurt you," Orlok smiled ironically, "Helios would kill me if I did." Elizabeth laughed nervously and nodded, bringing her sword up so it was centred with her body. Then one of the Knubrap pounced with a fearful cry, a small, rusting dagger clutched in one hand. Orlok's muscles tensed and he jumped, his claws ripping through the Knubrap's flesh as soon as they made contact. His foe screeched and fell back to the sand, the stench of his blood almost choking Elizabeth. After one fell, the rest pounced, and frenzy had begun. Orlok couldn't keep his eyes on Elizabeth constantly, but she managed to fight back some of her attackers. It was hopeless, however, as there seemed to be no end in numbers. The cries and howls of the murderous Knubrap seemed to fill the air as they attacked the pair of Gwyar; stabbing and ripping at anything they could et a hold of. As Elizabeth knocked a female Knubrap unconscious, she heard Orlok cry out. She looked back, a fatal mistake, to see his arm bleeding as he clutched at it. All too late did she hear the whisper of a knife in the air before it's blade sunk into her right shoulder. She whimpered as lights exploded in front of her eyes and stumbled back, the dagger still stuck in her shoulder. Her attacker leered down at her as she tripped over her own feet to fall in the blood soaked sand. Her hand groped for her shinai, but she couldn't find it, and the pain shooting through her whole body made her unable to summon the energy for a spell. She whimpered lamely and squeezed her eyes shut against the pain, hoping that someone Helios anyone Helios, please! would come and help them. OOC: I have no idea why the Knubrap attacked us, Mugen, but they seemed like the most obvious bet for attackers seeing as they're a brutal lot. I guess you could have something about them having orders from a higher power? Some new plot twist could come from this. *shrugs* Oh, the injury Orlok has isn't deep, I imagine it?s just a little flesh wound.
20. Haha, I sucked in that round. I apologise to my team--my excuse is that I'm currently half way two weeks of exams. But still, I guess I could have posted a couple of times more >>
21. Thanks for the commens, I really appreciate it everyone ^_^; Something I finished about 15 minutes ago: T-Shirt (Model not Included) :Little Doom: [link] Comment- Little Doom is a clothing label I made up for the OtakuBoards Graphics Tournament when I was against Sean and Alex. 'Twas a spur of the moment thing, but seeing as I adore designing clothes so much I decided to make it a permanent thing for when I dress teen characters in casual/punk style clothing. (And that's a girl in the picture. It was supposed to be a boy, but looked like a girl when I coloured...er, it.)
22. Listen, chick, there are a few things you have to remember in situations like this: You are not the only one who is bullied and you are not the only one who feels like crap. You are a lot better off than millions of people in this world and should be thankful for the fact you can be educated, you aren't sick, you can walk and you can do all the things many people can only dream of doing. Be thankful for life. The people who bully you don't care whether or not they hurt your feelings, and half of the things they say they probably don't even believe. I used to be beaten up in school and teased but I knew what was being said to me wasn't true. So what did I do? I went against bullying with confidence (please note: NOT violence) and now one of the girls who tried to make my life hell is a friend who sticks up for me. Bullies react to weakness and if you mope around complaining about your life being so terrible, that no one likes you and you have no friends then things are going to get worse. Look at the people who waste their time trying to bring you down, raise an eyebrow and ask them, "Why are you wasting your time trying to make me feel bad? You obviously don't have very interesting lives yourselves." and walk away. Sorry for not sugar coating the matter but I'm sick of people saying "I'll be here for you if you need to talk." I KNOW from experience that talking doesn't help, but doing something for yourself does. Have friends to give you confidence, but please, show these mindless idiots that they just aren't worth your time and energy. More people need to show strength against bigheaded morons.
23. Actually, Trevor is pretty much most of those things and I'm hopelessly in love with him and he, too, is my best friend. I'd trust him with anything. But to the point, I do actually get most of what this guy is saying, and reading this brought a smile to my face. I, sadly, don't have any male friends (discounting Trevor) who are nice guys. They're either nice in most ways, but then weird/awful/annoying in others. I appreciate the nice guys, and I'll be damned happy if one ever wants to be my friend and go shopping with me and tell me how I look in my new jeans. Just one thing I should add, as a woman; "It would ruin our friendship." is actually very true and in most cases, not an excuse. Girls, in most cases I've come across, value friendship above other things. For an example: One of my previous boyfriends, Joe, was practically my best friend before we decided to go out. We'd both liked each other for a long time but as soon as we really did have a 'relationship', something totally changed. He hated me for at least two months after we broke it off and even now I have an extremely short temper with him and he seems to delight in insulting me at every opportunity. If someone would have told me that before we?d started going out, I would have laughed and told them to shove it. But now I see it?s because of the relationship we had that our friendship was destroyed. Girls I think tend to think of commitment in a relationship (this is a blanket statement, I know, not all girls are like this. I'm not trying to be sexist or anything) so if their best friend is the nicest guy in the world and they love him as a friend, they're not going to want to take the chance of losing that special person over something stupid in a relationship. I'm sure the guys would feel the same if they thought about it.
24. Seeing as I don't know anything about HTML: Hug Monster, when writing by hand it is common English rule to write with an indent at the start of every paragraph and to not have spaces in-between paragraphs, so that's fine. When typing, I have always been told (especially by my English teacher) that the same rules do not apply. For typing, ideally, block paragraphing should be used with a space of one line between each paragraph. That's how I've always been taught, so if you're stressing over one English rule, don't, because it doesn't even seem to apply to typing.
25. I've gotta say, as an outsider reading through the thread, that I'm starting to lose sight of why the Legionnaires were there in the first place. I think Sheba should have been finished off when Alan posted, because I'm getting a little sick of her. =/ I just thought I'd mention, seeing as I'm viewing the thread in a slightly different light than those participating.
