"An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth." - Have no idea.
Actually, as Ace said, that is taken out of context from the Bible. The most common reference is actually Matthew 5:38-42. You have heard that it was said, Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth. But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. The same phrase also appears in Exodus, as Gavin said, however it is a bit more obscure and irrelevant to everyday life. If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman's husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.

I haven't heard anything about that at the Best Buy near me, I just recently bought some Death Note (It came with a Ryuk figurine, so I couldn't help myself), and I didn't notice any sale signs. Maybe it's only specific Best Buys, or possibly only specific titles? That would be pretty crappy though, because Best Buy is my main supplier.

Barbie is awesome. Playing with Barbies, DBZ action figures, and Pokemon figurines was a major pastime for me as a kid. Each Barbie, Kelly, Ken, Gohan, Trunks, Pikachu, and Snorlax had a family, history, personality and a name. This character-development was what sparked my creativity as a child to write and illustrate comic books and I became really interested in art and design. Years later, I'm a successful graphic/web designer and illustrator with more freelance jobs than I could ever imagine. So, you could say that Barbie introduced me to my career and taught me how to succeed at life.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
sakurasuka replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Back in the single-digit years of sandboxes and Pokemon, I always wanted to write and illustrate comic books. I had my own series for a while, and it was admittedly pretty good for a nine year old. But ever since I was in my pre-teens and discovered Neopets and editable Pet Pages, I was in love with web building. I downloaded my first trial of Jasc Paint Shop Pro and I've been a graphic/web designer ever since. I'm halfway through my BA now, and I plan on continuing on to get my Masters Degree. I eventually want to own my own firm, but I've just been concentrating on some freelance work recently. Fun stuff. -
Discussion in Connotation: Dorks, Geeks, and Nerds
sakurasuka replied to Roxie Faye's topic in General Discussion
Geek and nerd should not be used interchangeably. A person's geekiness is directly related to how obsessed a person is or how much time a person spends on a particular hobby, generally something that has no particular relevance. A geek only obtains knowledge by sheer incident and familiarity with the subject due to his obsession. A nerd, however, is rated by the level of knowledge he posesses, not the time or obsession put into pursuit. For example, collecting every pokemon figurine would make you a geek. Knowing every pokemon's evolutionary tree and also knowing which levels they evolve at would make you a nerd. You can be both a geek and a nerd at the same time, and the terms could apply to the same subject. Just remember: Geekiness relates to the amount of time spent/level of obsession. Nerdiness relates to the amount of knowledge of the subject. -

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
sakurasuka replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
The story however and the subjec matter make it narly on par (for me) with other greats like 'Claymore' and 'Gantz'
Thumbs-up, I actually just watched (Re-watched, rather, I've seen the series in its entirety quite a few times) episode 5 about half an hour ago. Now, I've been told the manga is pretty hella awesome. I think that may be the next series I tackle. School days, by the way, is on the edge of interesting and insane. I guess I won't say much more about it, either you'll love it or hate it. Death Note Is my favorite manga by far, but as for what I'm reading right now, it's Juvenile Orion. So amazing, brings me back to my Card Captor Sakura days. Speaking of which, I haven't pulled those out in a while. -
Anime Let's Talk about Abridged Series
Kaimaster thinks Obama = Antichrist. Thus, end of the world.
Yeah. The Anti-Christ is supposed to come from the middle-east, though. He also is supposed to display himself as the new Jesus, neither of which he has done. Some people just take things too far.
Pre-Tribulation is before the Anti-Christ be elected. Mid-Tribulation is Anti-Christ been elected. Post Tribulation is after the Tribulation.
I'm sorry, but I have to correct you. There is no 'Mid-Tribulation'. Also, Sangome, the Christians may still be here at the beginning of the Tribulation period. The supposed 'rise of the anti-Christ' is not the same as the Rapture, though it does occur during the same book of the Bible. The book of Revelation speaks of the seven years of Tribulation. For the first years of the Tribulation Period, there is no mention of catastrophe. The Christians may be removed at year one, or as late as year three, according to the Bible. So technically, we could be within the first three years of the Tribulation Period. Then at year three sparks the beginning of the Great Tribulation Period, at which point the Christians are nearly all removed (Except for the some-thousand converted Jews left behind to preach the gospel during the end of the world). This is when the Anti-Christ will become apparent. There is no 'Post-Tribulation' either. At the end of the Great Tribulation, the world is gone. Kaput. Dead. After the trumpet and bowl judgments, of course. But those occur within the tribulation period. Though some argue that they are the mark of the end of the seven years. Tomayto, Tomohto. Edit: Obama is not the Anti-Christ, though. There are so many inconsistencies that make it impossible for him to be the Anti-Christ. Obama is American, and also a Christian. Kthxbai. The picture of Wizardmon is certainly my favorite. I love the shading. A few pointers, the ones where you drew and colored the text (such as the fanfic poster) cause the font to look a bit muddy. Maybe you could use something like Adobe Illustrator to manually edit your hand-drawn fonts (LiveTrace and edit them as vectors, you can still apply gradients and textures). Or use downloaded fonts. Just for clarity's sake. Did you color any of these using a computer program, or did you just scan them in? (Other than the MS Paint one, of course)

Banner number 2 is certainly the best. The contrasting colors work relatively well, and the simplistic font isn't out of place. My biggest critique is that a few of these are too complex. I think that is what causes them to look jumbled or confusing. Take banner 3 for example. Entire long quotes don't generally belong on signature banners. So, rather than typing 'Protecting what we cherish most is the reason why we formed this Pirate Crew' you could instead type 'What we cherish most' or simply 'Pirate Crew' Not only does using less test allow you to make the text an integrated part of the design, but someone is much more likely to read 2-4 words than multiple sentences. This alone will make them stand out more. Also, on banner 5, the text being alternated from the top to the bottom is very cluttered looking. I would just make the font larger and use more spacing between the letters to run the sentence across the entire banner. Overall, I think text is the biggest issue. I think simplifying your quotes and reducing the number of words will allow you to see the text as a design element, which will make all the difference. Other than that, keep up the good work! And please keep posting, I'd love to see how you improve! *cough* There is nothing wrong with arial. You're just jealous.
In the most non-offensive way possible, I am very curious how many of you worship regularly at a religion and voted no for ghosts. If you'd tell me I'd be very appreciative.
It truly depends on your definition of 'ghost'. If you mean souls wandering the Earth after death, then no. You go to Heaven or to Hell, you don't stay on the Earth. If you mean the existence of souls in a place apart from our planet, an afterlife (Heaven, Abraham's Bosom, Hades, or Hell), then yes. That is where you go when you die. But then you are a spirit, not a ghost. Though you are fundamentally a spirit in possession of a soul encased within a body (Why the Bible refers to our bodies as Earthly Vessels). So, since we are all spirit beings, then we could all be considered ghosts right now. If your definition of ghost is the same as the Biblical definition of spirit. But I do not use 'ghost' and 'spirit' interchangeably, so ghosts do not exist in accordance with my perception of the definition of the word. If that does not answer your question, DeathKnight, I would be more than happy to elaborate.

*High-fives Desbreko* I homeschooled all through middle school and high school. My only friends were my little brother, and my two neighbors. They went to public school and had plenty of drama to deal with, but it never really affected me or my brother. We just played our gameboys and the Nintendo. Until YuGiOh cards came out, of course. Then we wasted most of our time playing card games. We still do, sometimes. So I never really had to deal with much drama. Until now. But it has nothing to do with school or pettiness.
There are four kinds of love according to the venerable C.S. Lewis. ...
Quoted for truth. I think that there are many kinds of love. For instance, you do not love your best friend in the same way that you love your wife, or your computer, or your mother. Each love relationship is different, and the sort of love can differ even between siblings. You may look up to and love your grown-up adult brother so much that he has become the role model for your life, and you may feel a completely different more familiar, friendly, and protective love toward your younger brother. The feeling toward your brothers is not more or less, but undoubtably different. Love does not necessarily mean caring for someone more than yourself (though this is almost certainly the case), but the measure of love differs so much from person to person that it is impossible to but a blanket definition on the word 'love'. The Pizza Hut where I live is simply amazing. They don't deliver to my neighborhood, but the drive is so worth it. Maybe not now that gas is three bucks a gallon, though. The other places that do deliver where I live are Papa John's, Dominos, and Vinny's (Vinny's doesn't deliver, but it's just walking distance down the street.) Vinny's is good, it's a little fancier and pricier. I'm not a fan of the other two. Still, nothing can ever beat my Pizza Hut. Extra cheese with mushrooms and black olives with a cheesy stuffed crust. Yes.

Morals and ethics would not exist in the same way they do now if it were not for religion. Is it not the Christian Bible that dictates most of the 'right and wrong'/'legal and illegal' in this country? It is the same for Islamic groups etc. What is right or wrong depends wholeheartedly on the religious beliefs of their society. Edit: Retribution, lolwut?

Favorite Physical Activities and Staying Fit.
sakurasuka replied to Zen's topic in General Discussion
I took Tang Soo Do for about five years. I did tons of tournament sparring and forms, so needless to say, I was in pretty good shape. Now I am a full time student with a job, so I don't have time. But I have managed to stay somewhat in shape. I still enjoy running and doing crunches (Even moreso now, we have just entered swimsuit season). I also love soccer. I played for six years, and still enjoy kicking the ball around with my little brother. -
Paint Shop Pro for the win. Though Adobe products are more mainstream. Since you are beginner, I strongly recommend downloading the free trial of Adobe Photoshop CS3. It is a 30 day trial, so it gives you plenty of time to try it out. Another plus with Photoshop is its general popularity. This makes it much easier for a beginner to learn, since there are tons of tutorials and step-by-step guides on just about everything you can imagine. But please don't pay for anything without trying it first. That's a good way to waste money.

Request Banner/Logo Request: Until Proven Guilty

So I can't figure out what font that is, so I just used some random serif font that looked somewhat similar. The colors also look a bit screwey, but meh. I just realized that I forgot the white stroke around "Until Proven Guilty" *Shot* -
