Perhaps it deters one or two people, but the numbers speak for themselves.
I stand by the idea that Capital Punishment is neccesary in those states because of a higher murder rate. But either one's an empty argument. Chicken or the egg, people.

I was trying to answer your question, I didn't make the claim. It makes some sense if you think about it. Capitol Punishment wouldn't be done away with if another better alternative wasn't reached, so until that happens CP is settled for. So, if we were in a position to replace CP with something better, then it would be a step foreward. And if you kill someone, you deserve to be confined for the rest of your life. I'm well aware of what the 'rest of your life' entails. But you only get put in that position if you did something terrible enough to deserve it. I think life in prison is a punishment, but not a very good one. Taking the life of another person is worthy of the death penalty because jailtime is the punishment. Once you've killed someone, that's your last strike. You don't get another chance. You don't deserve to live anymore. But that's only my opinion. If it was up to me, anyone charged with life in prison would get a bullet in the brain rather than take up Earth's recources and space. And people have escaped from prison before, kiddo. Not likely, but not completely impossible.

We were all born nude. Fifty percent of the population has breasts, the other fifty have seen them at some point in thier life. I don't get why everyone cares. If people wouldn't pay attention to it, the problem wouldn't exist. But you see, the majority of people do pay attention to it. Sex wouldn't sell if it wasn't what people were interested in. But people are interested. So sex sells. That's just how it is.
Then why would it be considered a step forward if the new law would be more flawed than the current? Logically, that would seem like a step backwards.
It's a step foreward if you are able to find a better alternative. Noone wants to kill these people, but it's just that it's mostly neccesary and they most definitely shouldn't be allowed the chance to take another breath or laugh another laugh if they'd ripped that right away from another human being. So. Murdering murderers isn't the best, but allowing them to live is worse. Finding another alternative would be a step foreward. In my opinion, jail isn't exactly as torturous as people make it out to be. You have food, clothes, TELEVISION for goodness' sake. I mean, why should these people be allowed to continue living thier lives? Besides, as long as someone is alive they're a threat. As long as they have the ability to move thier limbs, they can escape or get paroled.
A step forward by discontinuing capital punishment? I thought you were pro-capital punishment, so how could you consider an end to what you believe in a step forward? And if you think discontinuing capital punishment is a step in the right direction (assuming forward is the right direction in your opinion), but you don't think life without parole is good enough, what would you suggest?
If I'm not very much mistaken, and please correct me if I am, that's the entire point. Capital Punishment isn't ideal, but it's a better alternative than life without parole. When given the two options, life without parole just isn't good enough. And since there really are no other options, CP, while flawed, is the best bet as of yet.

Photoshop is pretty amazing, and yes, people do use a multitude of grpahics programs to make wallpapers. GIMP is another commonly used program since it's free and has some nice features, put I just find it an annoyingly over-glorified MSPaint. I'd reccoment Paint Shop Pro [prefferably version 8] for anyone who's interested in a user-friendly program with just about the same features as Photoshop. Plus PSP is cheaper than PS, though I'm supposing you already have PS anyway, so it really doesn't make a difference. No matter what program you use, it just takes practice. There's nothing I [or anyone else] can tell you to make you a good graphic designer. It's all up to you. As for tutorials, Google is your best bet.

Sure, it deters crime. You're less likely to kill someone if you yourself are going to get killed for it. If I really loathed someone and was going to kill them even though I'd get caught, I'd be more likely to do so if all I got was jailtime. And how can it cost less to give someone a shot than to jail, feed, and clothe them for life? That.. Doesn't even make the slightest bit of sense, but if you'd like to prove me wrong go right ahead. It doesn't make it a tool of revenge whatsoever, anyway. Do you think the judge is thinking 'I just hate this guy, let's give him the death penalty to suit my whim' when he sentances? No, he's thinking 'This man/woman deserves to be punished to the extent of the law for his crimes, and he should never be allowed the chance to commit them again'. We all know that the US has more crime than nearly any other country, bringing that up doesn't help your argument. It probably means that we should make better use of the death penalty, if you ask me. I know how I must sound, but I think there's just no help for anyone who would rape/torture/murder another human being. This speaking from a severely neutral standpoint with absolutely no thoughts of revenge/bloodlust/satisfaction, I think that people who commit crimes that severe don't have the right to continue life on this planet, and should likely all be shot.
It's revenge in that you're killing that person because of what they did. It's apparent the death penalty has zero benefit when nearly all of Europe, Canada, and even Mexico have abandoned it without ill consequence. Therefore, the exercise of killing them must be done just to do it, under the guise of "justice" and "the law."
Let's backtrack a bit. If you do something wrong, you should be punished, correct? Let's say a six year old boy is sitting at a table with his mother. She's drinking a very full glass of wine. The little boy keeps grabbing at the glass. Now, the mother, know that the boy cannot drink the wine and his grabbing would only result in knocking it over, persists to tell him 'no, you can't have that' which only results in another grab at the glass. Let's say the boy finally gets ahold of the glass while the mother isn't watching, knowing very well that he isn't allowed to touch it, and it spills all over the table. If the mother than slaps the boy's hand, is that a vengeful/spiteful attack at the boy, or a punihsment for his actions? Now, we may not all agree that slapping the boy's hand is proper treatment, but it is equal to the crime. Some of us may suggest puting the boy in the corner, or giving him a good spanking for refusing to listen. At any rate, every person would have thier own way of dealing with the problem. Either way, the punishment should match the crime. New senario. Same boy, age thirteen, throws mud at the little girl down the street. The mud splatters her little pink bike and her pretty white skirt. This deserves a bit more than a slap on the hand. Most likely he'd get grounded for x-amount of weeks, made to apologise to the girl, and possible even buy her a new skirt depending upon the situation. Yet again, the punishment should match the crime. Does that mean that boy's parents are plotting thier revenge against him because he threw mud at that girl? Hell no, they're punishing him for his actions. Same boy. Age eighteen. Sells drugs to an undercover police officer and goes to jail for x-amount of years. The police officers aren't seething with vengeance, they're merely matching the crime to the punishment. See where I'm going with this? Same boy. Age 21. Wounds dozens of people. Kills one. Gets the death penalty. Yeah, this is more severe. Yeah, some of the people who got shot probably would like revenge. But does that mean we should want to save him from the death penalty? No way. It's his punishment. It fits the crime. He earned it. Admiting that, as 'Mom did, isn't an act of vengeance, it's an act of logical thinking. Not everyone is a bloodthirsty maniac. Edit- Smurf, you really should let up on the personal attacks.

It's not digging if it's still on the first page, right?
Yes, but for example, I play a game that, as of a recent update, requires me to open the launcher application through IE (horribly stupid, I know). For whatever reason, it won't work in Firefox, even using the IE tab extension. So I keep IE around for that.
I can't download Maple Story properly without Internet Explorer, let alone visit the site to check recent updates and charge NX cash or anything of the sort. I don't know why they don't just make it Firefox/Opera freindly already, but it has become rather annoying. I use Opera as my main browser. I downloaded it about two weeks ago, and I'm absolutely in love with it. The tabbing feature is of course, one of my favorites. I also love how it keeps your tabs open even if you close the page. Imagine being able to have most of the same features as firefox plus a prettier default face plus the widgets

How did you come up with your internet/screen name ?
sakurasuka replied to corpseman's topic in General Discussion
First, I'll go with my names on this forum. SakuraMinomino- I only ever used this here. Sakura is the name of my favorite character in Ren of the Shrine, the manga I created at the age of ten [and am still working on, by the way]. Minomino is actually misspelled, it should be Minamino, but I'm an idiot. Suichi Minamino [aka Kurama from YuYuHakusho], is my one and only love -
I'm going to take this back just a bit. I don't feel like quoting every bit, I'm positive you insanely smart people can figure out what I'm reffering to. Nicotine is physically addictive. Stealing is not. Sure, you can get a 'rush' from doing something [like stealing, riding a roller coaster, sex, etc.], but that doesn't mean it's impossible to stop. You don't need 'Theivery Anonymous' or whatever. If you don't ride a roller coaster for a few months, you won't have withdrawls. People seriously use the names of disorders just to explain away all thier problems and bad habits. I seriously doubt there has ever been one serious case of kleptomania. This girl does need to be taught that stealing is wrong, but that's not exactly something one of her peers can do. And, like Retri said, it's not exactly something the parents would probably listen to. Adahn. You have some good points, and I'm not saying your opinion isn't valid, but you get really caught up in trying to convince everyone else that you're right and you don't even listen to what anyone else has to say. We'd be more open to discussing your opinion if you were more open to ours ;P
-
Alright. Listen [or rather, read] very closely. Stealing, even impulsive stealing, is still wrong. It's still stealing. The person can physically stop themselves from doing it. There is NO DISORDER that can force you to steal something. Aside from alien mind control. But I doubt that's the issue. If I spend every paycheck at the mall, it does not mean I have a shopping disorder. If I eat everything in sight, that does not equal an eating disorder. You can ALWAYS stop. You can ALWAYS choose to have self-control. So I have ABSOLUTELY no pity for people with 'kleptomania'. That's just an excuse those dumbf***s thought up to justify stealing.
-
B**** slap the girl and take it back. You know it's yours. She knows it's yours. You don't need friends that steal from you. Kleptomania? Are you serious? Now people are just making up disorders rather than owning up to thier mistakes. Honestly. 'It's not my fault I murdered 80 people. I have the killing disorder.' or 'It's not my fault I stole it, my hand made me do it.' Good lord. People need to stop pretending something's wrong with them. Every other person in the world does not have ADD, OCD, or kleptomania. It's just an excuse for attention and medication.

Let's talk about sex (Mature please)
What about mutual masturbation?
That would be sexual interaction, seeing as it is a sexual act performed in the presence of another person. So, in my opinion, it's sex. Basically. I agree with Sandy in that heterosexual sex isn't the only kind of sex. If you consider gay and lesbian sex, then the idea of what entails 'intercourse' broadens somewhat. -
I can't window shop. I want to buy it all. I have no self-control. No self control + No money = Bad idea. I can't take my debit card anywhere or else I'm tempted. =/

I'm generally pretty easy to get angry. But good for you, I cool down pretty quick. Life is too short for grudges.

Let's talk about sex (Mature please)
And another point. If anything "arousing" makes you lose your virginity then just playing with yourself is losing it, or geting an erection is losing it. I had my first one when I was 5 for crying out loud!
That's not what he was saying at all. It's only considered 'sex' if two or more people are involved.
Masturbation
is by no means sexual intercourse. Though that is extremely off topic. -

Helloprettyface. Haha, Retri, one guy thought you were a girl, and another thought you were white xD Yeah, not many people mix up my gender. Pro'lly the sakurasuka, or the pink-esque banners. I don't even like pink. But I try to make it obvious that I'm female, so as to avert awkward 'You're a... Girl?!?!? o_O' comments. =P

So. I just got this completely RANDOM email.
You're only pretty because you use tons of makeup. Your not even that pretty anyways. Stop being stuck-up.
So. Here you go, random loser. No makeup, 4-am, glasses, and bed head to the max. [Yeah, I'm still hotter than you =P] Honestly, I love this picture. Random, stupid, messy-hair ones are always the best.
Man, when I personally pictured White I envisioned someone much more attractive. Same with DW, back when he was relevant. Them's be the two hottest men I know. Everyone else is just jelous. And Ezekiel. You're stunning. And your hair is almost the same color as mine is now =D Only a teensy bit brighter.

Omfgwhite'sahottie. Wow, it's fun to see what all you guys look like in real life, y'know? Oh, Tical, the reason the boys don't get commented on is because of the following. The girls here actually know that they're pretty. Otherwise they wouldn't post multitudes of pictures of themselves on a forum filled with anime nerds. They then proceed to post 'I'm ugly' or things of the sort to justify thier need to post pictures of themselves online, and hope for people to tell them how pretty they are. When they don't, they get dissapointed. Emotional Masterbation, people. It'll be the death of us all. Well anyways, the guys here are more interested in the girls. The girls are more interested in themselves. So, as girls, we stick together and comment the other girls, so as not to seem stuck-up and concieted, even though we are. Sort of like a MySpace complex, no? Anywho. I would like to be the first to say that Tical is indeed t3h third hottest man on OB. Next to Stephen and GAVINBROWN,OMGFANGIRL. xD Oh, The13thMan, you're my hero. The awesome randomness..
i am guessing it's 4. first, if hate anime you wouldn't be here. second, you profile CLEARLY states you are anything BUT an Bilie Joe hater. third, according to your profile, you have a job....... :animesigh well that took alot out of me, and no, Sakurasuka, mine isn't actually that hard, just read carefully.
Actually, there are probably just as many people here that hate anime as there are those who love it. I was going on the hopes that an avid YuYu fan would notice the 'Previous Userneame'. Or at least the current one. Or possibly my avatar. Alas, I was wrong. But you're right, I'm a hairdye fangirl. And I'm assuming my previous answer wasn't right. So. That means three is wrong. Correct? Then it's a one-in-three shot. Someone else go for it, so you can post another four-'facts'. And it's not a 'difficulty' thing, it's a whether-or-not I catch your clues thing.

Actually, taperson, three are false and one is true. It's hard to decipher given the posting quaility of the OP. Myst- One sounds ludicrous. You make no mentions of any countries anywhere in your profile or signature, other than the fact that you live in Canada. Three could very likely be true, you have a Happy Bunny picture in your profile and a somewhat purple font. Therefore ruling out number four, if we're going simply on what little information you provided. taperson- Given your answer should only contain one lie, I'm assuming it's number three, given the Garth Brooks quote in your signature. From what I've gathered from the OP, three are lies and one is the truth, here are my 'facts'. 1- I hate anime. 2- I hate Billie Joe Armstrong. 3- I am unemployed. 4- I like to dye my hair.
I love you... :animeblus
And I love
Papa Smurf
. We shall have thirteen pink-haired blue-skinned children. ..... With beards.

My two of my three best [and only] friends in the entire universe died. They were cousins. They moved to Texas. Well, they got taken away from thier mum/aunt and lived in Texas with foster parents. One died of a drug over-dose. One killed himself. It sucks majorly. But you have to get past it. We all die eventually.
