1. Had to calm my dog down 'cause she was scared of them lovely, lovely fireworks lighting up the sky. Was planning to log on to OB but thought it would be better if I gave everyone in the house a kiss each. Opened all doors, windows and faucets (full blast, of course) to let luck in. Refused to open a bottle of martini and opted to get drunk with some 15 hundred plus of mils of Sprite instead. Sugar gave me enough energy to shout and jump around for a good half hour after 2006 rang in. Stuffed myself with at least 3 kinds of pastry, chow mein, extremely sweet ham and cheese. Must have gained a few pounds. Am v. happy.
2. Dreams/Siam Shade : Too bad they broke up. I've yet to hear an SS song that I could hate. I've also yet to hear a band who could play them SS beats that remind me of railroad crossings. Greedy/Momo : I hated this song the first time I heard it but I grew to love the vocals and the unusual blend of instruments. The catchy, hypnotic beat gets me everytime. Equal Romance/??? : Err... a mediocre girl chorus singing a rather mediocre song. It didn't have as much wordplay as I expected from a Ranma 1/2 song but it never fails to make me feel giddy. Save my Heart/Yasue Satou : The second of Eden's Bowy's ending themes. I found the accompanying animation cute. Kimi no Machi Made (To Your Town)/Asian Kung Fu Generation : The incredible song that drew me into AKFG craze. The rather odd lilting in the chorus and the repetitive vocals at the end added uniqueness to the song and gave it that quirky AKFG touch. Lovely, lovely, lovely. Tightrope/Charcoal Filter : Catchy, upbeat, noisy. Those and the assertive theme running through the lyrics make it sound very Saiyuki. Sobakasu (Freckles)/Judy and Mary : First anime song I liked. Probably 'cause it came from Rurouni Kenshin and have ever heard of a girl sing as loud. Vanilla/Gackt : One word: sensual. The way Gackt sings reeks of sexual innuendo. The trumpets blaring in the background aren't helping either. I love it to pieces. LAST SONG, Unplugged Version/Gackt : I like the original better. Though it gave Gackt the chance to show off his vocal range, the piano wasn't able to complement his powerful voice well. Thumbs down. Green Bird/Gabriel Robin : A haunting chorale used in Cowboy Bebop's fifth episode. It sounds like a folk song, really. Very relaxing piece.
3. I think power is inversely proportional to the crappiness of the hairstyle, not its shortness. Case in point: Sakuragi Hanamichi (SlamDunk)
before and after he shaved his head. The guy actually played (and looked) better with shorter hair than with that awful gangster look
.
4. Waiii~♥ Amano-samaaaa!!! Ah, ehrm. I've always found Amano's works hauntingly beautiful. Creeps the hell out of me sometimes, but his pieces never fail to amaze me. Loved his renditions of FF character, especially IX's 'cause they look so whimsical (and Amarant looks bitchin'). Seeing Wolverine and Elektra rendered in Amano's style made me want to develop my own style of drawing and experiment on different media as well, just to get those wispy lines and lovely, lovely colors. Yoshitaka Amano wins over Ayame Kojima anytime. (How odd that this thread came up just after I found out that a certain "Yoshitaka Amano" was involved in the concept design of some movie about the Heian period. Google reveals: Onmyoji.) (BTW, persocomblues-san, if what you saw looked something like "天野喜孝", that's just Amano's name in Kanji. But hrmm, it turns out that Amano did release some bondage-themed artbook with a really pink cover and "花の蛇" written in black strokes. It reads "Hana no Hebi" or something like "the flower's snake". Mmm hmm.)

Japanese Music

Now that the two top artists/groups in my list have already been mentioned (Gackt and AKFG), let's shine the spotlight on Porno Graffiti, shall we? ♥ I just saw them perform in NHK's Red and White Show and they really don't look anything like them visual kei bands the name "Porno Graffiti" would evoke. In fact, their songs sound so down-to-earth that they somehow remind me of... SMAP (yeah, that's right!). Melissa is probably the most popular song they've released, with it being used in Full Metal Alchemist and all, but they've other songs that sound just as good, if not better, than Melissa. They always find a way to make their songs sound upbeat and interesting (Mugen!) even with relatively mellow songs like Ai ga Yobuhou e. That's talent, I tell you. Talent!
6. Man, it takes a lot of imagination to come up with things like this. It's kinda like that spoof some guy did on Bert and Ernie's segment in Sesame Street, them puppets cavorting in triple-x fashion and all. Unless those kids think waay too old for their age, "faster, faster" won't call up risqué scenes in their little heads (and besides, if it's really in Cantonese then non-Cantonese speakers won't have a clue on what they're saying in the first place, yeah?) Those who look for sexual innuendo will find it in even the most well-meaning stuff. They sure got a lot of time in their hands.
7. If you wanna make quick bucks, put Chobits up in eBay. I bet it's sheer popularity alone can draw in some 10+ bids. :P Texhnolyze is a definite keeper. It's twisted, haunting and has the loveliest gore fests. Plus, it's easy on the eyes (think: limited range of hues). Perfect for them midnight anime marathons.
8. See? Post #8 is why DW must be made a moderator of OB. *thumbs up* Even if all the members are above 13 years of age, I don't think that swear words should be spelled out. I, for one, am not fond of seeing them, especially when written in uppercase letters. They disrupt this member's inner peace and they don't really have much sense in them, do they? Instead of riddling sentences with asterisks, I say the censor should replace them swear words with random phrases (just 'cause it looks quirky). It was at the height of Rei Ayanami's fame, I think, when 4chan started to replace them "Rei Ayanami" 's with "Donate to 4chan" 's or something like that. Lovely way to take sense out of sentences.
9. Anything that doesn't look like it was made by Disney or Warner Bros., I call "anime." Wow, talk about discrimination. Seriously though, I guess it's high-time we erase the line between Japanese animation and animation from everywhere else, and start calling everything "anime." A lot of Western, Korean, etc. animation studios have adapted styles present in Japanese anime (which, in turn, was another modified version of animation started in the West). Anime's gone global and its definition shouldn't be restricted to animation produced by a single group of nations alone. *bows*
10. If my weapon be a sword or a spear, then I'll probably call my weapon "Heart Piercer" or some other name that evokes mutilation and a bloody, messy death. A name that can scare the enemy off, yeah? As for paired weapons, I'd like to give 'em names like "Milk and Honey" or "Ebony and Ivory" (yes, those are the names of Dante's guns). After actual partners/combinations, yeah? It's cute, quirky and fit.
11. ^ I gotta get me Cocaine Sans. Luuurvly font! Raya's Top Ten Fonts Am pretty fond of CODE3X (have used it in a multitude of pieces!) 'cause it makes anything look modern and techie and... and... and barcode-y. Plus it looks good even when rotated by 90deg. Century Gothic and Verdana will stay on my list 'til someone creates fonts that look better at sizes below 6px.

14. 惣流・アスカ・ラングレ Name: Asuka Langley Soryuu Age: 16 Country: Germany Languages: German, Japanese (knows basic kanji), English Race: Human Rank: Second Child; Evangelion Pilot Description: In plugsuit In school uniform Personality: ?I don?t need you to tell me what I?m like. My ego is unfathomable to ineffectual judges of character such as you and thus, profiling my nature will prove to be a very futile attempt indeed.? She acts callous towards everyone, effectively registering herself as a very arrogant woman to new acquaintances. This persona manifests as an offensive AT field unique only to the EVA-02 and can be viewed as Asuka?s congruence to Shinji?s porcupine syndrome. ?Nah, don?t bother arranging for back-up. Won?t need it anyway.? Though her synchronization isn?t as strong as it was when she was in active NERV duty, she is still an exceptional Evangelion pilot and is easily the most competitive of the Chosen Children. She is still jealous of the attention given to Rei Ayanami but has become more tolerant of her stoic colleague. Shinji is still her very own object of ridicule and teasingly blames him for every mishap they run into. Bio: Born to an American father and a half-German, half-Japanese mother, Asuka grew up in second-millennium Germany near Gehirn Division, now known as the NERV-03. She was an exceptionally gifted child and obtained her college degree at the age of 12. By 2013, Gehirn had completed the adoption processes for the Production Type EVA-02 and was in search of a pilot for the model. Asuka Langley Soryu, daughter of Dr. Kyouko Zeppelin Soryuu, proved to be a perfect complement to Unit 02. She adapted to its controls only after a brief look at the Evangelion?s blueprints and was able to unleash an incomparable Absolute Terror field. The day Asuka was designated as 02?s pilot, Kyouko committed suicide in front of her daughter. Asuka?s father remarried even before his wife?s funeral, an act that made Asuka despise her stepmother even more. When NERV called all Evangelion units to its Tokyo base, she took the invitation as a chance to get away from her new family. A series of battles with the Angels ensued, her last one being the fight against Arael, the fifteenth angel. The fight left her in a state of mental instability, and Asuka was deemed unable to participate in the subsequent skirmishes. EVA-02 remained in off-duty status until its pilot completed a year-long psychological readjustment and reassessment program. OOC: Made a few tweaks to her official bio. This is still up for revision, yeah?
15. Retribution ◦● First up, I like the concept. The symbols you used are universal and familiar but you put 'em together in a really novel way ('tleast to me). Looks like much thought went into this piece. ◦● I dislike the choice of font and the spacing between characters in "NUCLEAR society". The serifs of them capitalized letters put jagged points between L and E and A that made that part of the word look dense with black. I suggest you use lowercase for "NUCLEAR", that way them letters look uniform and curvy and complement them sign figures well (just look at "society"). ◦● Your piece feels a tad too cold. Also, them pink boxes look a bit out of place. It's probably 'cause of the sharp corners (gratuitous contrast, they don't work with the curved corners of them sign people, yeah?). The pixelated edges 'round the figures aren't helping either. You could've spared a bit more time and vectorized 'em. The Devil's in the pixels, Chief. Kitty: ◦● Yes, very quirky. I love your take on the theme in terms of concept. Whilst Retribution aimed for the generic, you took the chance on portraying the unconventional. Bravo! ◦● Extraction is good, though you could've given the positioning of the characters more thought. A page from an artbook would look something like your piece; it's selling the drawings, not the concept. ◦● You could've done something about the white background, just to fill the space up. You've managed to do this in your previous works; I wonder why you weren't able to do the same in this piece. ◦● The textblocks need work. One, they're pretty hard to read the way they're tilted and two, they look a tad uninteresting. A wilder font would've complemented the unconventionality of your piece, yeah? Chalk one up for Retribution. (Yes, I was a bit harsh but this is the finals, you know?)

Jrotc

Over here, JROTC=CAT (Citizen's Army Training). Loves it. It was the only way I could get my friends to run around our school's perimeter with me. And since the program was under the naval reserve's supervision, we got to call each other "Ensign" and other ranks that sound just as lovely. Of the 18 cadet officers in our batch, thirteen were part of my posse (well, fourteen if you count me in) so we had a pretty crazy senior year. Got suspected of failing students out of bias and threatened with expulsion, we did. I had oodles of fun, though. Was in charge of the Medics for a good two weeks and held the position of platoon leader for the rest of the year. I never got promoted and am glad I didn't; it was fun gloating about how my charges marched better than them cadets in the model platoons. :D
17. Phylum Arthropoda Class Hexapoda Order Coleoptera Family Scarabaeidae Deathly afraid of 'em scarabs. I remember rushing out of a resort changing room clad only in a towel 'cause I saw one scurrying around the floor. In rural areas, kids tie strings 'round the thorax (the head, yeah?) and make them beetles fly around in circles. They're not that dangerous and I was told that they taste fantastic with beer. EDIT: Ah, the thorax then! More specifically, the narrow pinched part between the thorax and the abdomen. Thank you for pointing that out! *bows*
18. If you wanna disappear, the city?s technology hub is the place to go. With so many people and cyborgs around, no wonder it?s prime target for terrorists. Just a few hours earlier, a series of bombs went off near Coffea. Ten wounded, three Caladbolgs nicked and one Aros casualty (intended, of course). Right now, they?re holding a press conference over at the Information Control Division lobby. Standard operating procedures have it that ICD must release an official statement four hours after such incident. Enough time to sweep the scene, form an investigative body and piece together a story from the rubble. As we say in ICD, it doesn?t matter if it?s logical as long as it?ll sate the public?s curiosity. Simple, yes? Not really. In every incident, there are always unfortunate individuals who know what actually took place. Though what we mainly do is economize truths to Aros? advantage, part of ICD?s job is to limit the spread of information either through detention or extermination of the information carriers. You get what I mean, yes? Which brings us back to the case. Voice Record ICD Rm. 129 **/**/2115, 1728H ?Looks like the whole gang?s here. What?ll it be this time? ?Another futile attempt at disrupt the industrial district?s pace?? Or how about ?A resistance faction trying to make itself known?? It?s been months since we used that account.? ?You talk too much, Escherman. Let the boss talk first.? ?Thank you, Archer. Well then, I?m assuming you?ve read everything they?ve recorded about the case so far. And you?re well aware that Dr. Ross was involved in this?incident. With that, the Board Members have ordered ICD to claim the bombings as part of an effort to isolate the patrons of Coffea from the sewers, where Caladbolg terrorists and Ross were. Also, that the good doctor had defected will be made known, to serve as a warning to those who wish to follow her example. They believe that this should keep the number of defectors down, yes?? ?She?s fifth one this year, right?? ?That?s correct. It?s only the second month but with Ross we?ve already surpassed last year?s mark. Such unmotivated workers, Aros Research has.? ?What about witnesses? Involved individuals? Have we anything to track?? ?The bladedancer?s video caught an image of a droid carrying an object away from the doctor. Common sense tells us that it is something valuable. FLARE should be on it, but it won?t hurt if we join in the fun as well, yes?? ?We hear you, Boss.?
19. I'm kind of at a loss here. Perhaps you could tell us which OB threads you are referring to, yeah? ...Although I've been to other anime forums where flaming certain popular series is all them members do. Sometimes a discussion would come up but it's usually the sort of exchange that gets all bloody and messy and ends up as nothing but entertainment fodder to the other members.
20. It would be cool if I could turn into one of those giant squids. My tentacle alone (which a certain scientific expedition will cut off from me) will be enough to send them zoological societies in a frenzy. Pirates and marine biologists alike will talk about my species' exploits and I'll become the most popular living invertebrate. IOW, I'd be a living legend. Yarr. Although it'd be even cooler if I turned into a LUCA (Last Universal Common Ancestor) 'cause then I can give rise to literally all sorts of organisms and have the license to gloat about it :P.
21. Come December 15, I'm pretty sure my father'll start pestering us to come with him to church for the 4am mass. My parents still believe that if we attend all of the nine dawn masses (from the 16th to the 24th, a sort of early morning novena for Christmas yeah?), whatever wish we make at Christmas Day will come true. I'm not the sort of person who'll brave nine cold dawns for a chance to get a free wish but I try to complete them nine services 'cause I get to spend more time with my folks that way.
22. Name: Type 341A5-XM Classification: Full body replica Codename: ?Lucia? Age: 50 Sex: Feminine Physical Description: see attachment Lucia stands 170 cm tall and even taller when in her service boots. Though she is enlisted as a soldier in Aros? forces, she is allowed to don plainclothes provided that she keeps hidden a control number found at her right arm. Her whole body surface is laminated with a polymer similar in appearance as human skin, making Lucia a perfect mock-up of a biological human being. Mental stability: Very stable, although there are moments after cyberbrain maintenance when Lucia?s sensory systems are assailed by random images and audio drawn from different networks. This condition is expressed in an emotional output parallel to human dementia and may last for a good half day. ?Lucia? is the only replica who is known to exhibit such a defect. Personality: Inside Lucia, right about where a human?s pituitary gland would be, is Aros? latest EmoTIon? engine. It is one of three isolated core engines that cannot be accessed in anyway except through direct disassembly of her shell. Her program is said to be patterned after the combined personalities of an Aros board member and her creator. If one were to define Lucia?s program with just one word, the first that would come to mind is ?focused.? Completing mission objectives is always top priority and her superiors? orders are absolute. She has been known to ignore the safety of other beings because such a parameter was not specified in her instructions. Off-duty, Lucia adopts an inquisitive persona with an unquenchable thirst for information. She likes to follow people around and try to explain their actions through logic and probability equations. Occupation: Lucia is assigned to Aros Inc.?s Information Control Division and is under direct command of the Board Members. Cybernetics: 100% illegal. Most notable is the internal design of her limbs which greatly augments her physical strength and gives her unparalleled agility. Her whole body case is made out of an alloy that eliminates noise and forms a mini-?dead-spot? inside her. Direct access to all of Aros Inc.?s satellites keeps her programs updated and enables her to crack through networks. Faction: Aros Inc. Weapons: Lucia?s structure permits her to carry nine types of projectiles which can be controlled by pressure on her palm. These projectiles range from semi-quantum acid capsules to modified explosive charges. She has also been programmed with a default set of melee techniques that can be supplemented by calling up combat files from Aros? military database. Background: Quoted from Type 3415A-XM's manual:
Experimental Model # 341A5, dubbed ?Lucia,? was developed by Dr. Odessa Aniron in 2065 as part of a weapons research program commissioned by Aros Incorporated. It entered military service immediately after it was formally adopted in 2067. Type 341A5-XM was assigned to Public Affairs Division as a combat specialist and commanded six other cyborgs in the division?s elite Section 9 It had a major system overhaul in 2100, following an accident in the Moon?s Sea of Tranquility. Dr. Aniron and four specialists were killed. Section 9 was disbanded and the remaining three members were put in suspended animation. Only Type 341A5-XM was released. It was reinstated and assigned to the Information Control Division in 2106 where it now works as a field operative. It has undergone 274 upgrades and 984 maintenance checks to date (refer to page 7 for its history of repairs).
------------------ OOC: Please PM me if I need to edit this signup.
