1. Hah, oh good. I wasn't actually sure if I was even remembering the right title. This is quite an old anime, but it's good if you're into that time. It was popular, so I won't say when it's from because I'm guessing you could search for it in Google that way.
2.
Small world man. I live in Grand Rapids! Awesome. Now that I see your locale it says, "The Oven Mitt of America.", lol.
That is strange haha. That's the first time since I joined OB back in 1999 that somebody was actually from where I'm from, much less the same city. I mean, Grand Rapids is big compared to my hometown of Carson City, MI, but it's still not too huge. That's pretty cool :P And on the subject of wine, the movie Sideways made me want to build up my "palette" for wine. It's been a rough road because I hate alcohol honestly. But goodness knows I'm trying to acquire the taste.
3. Well, I live in Grand Rapids myself, so you could say I've partied here, yes haha.
4. You're in Michigan. Us Michiganders know how to ring in the New Year so of course you won't regret 'em!
5. I think it's safe to say that considering there are little original concepts made these days that most stories can be linked to other stories through common characteristics. If someone made a pirate movie right now it'd be crapped on for piggybacking Pirates of the Caribbean, just as any vampire films coming out are accused of hopping aboard the Twilight train. Even Hayao Miyazaki with all his unusual and non-cliche ideas can be compared to other stories if you try hard enough. I, myself, try to just enjoy stuff for what it is. When I saw Avatar, I was pointing at the screen saying, "There's John Smith talking to the Indians." The big picture may not be original, but how everything is intertwined is where the originality comes in; the characters, the plot twists, the ending, the music choice, etc. That's where you can start differentiating.
6. has never seen Neon Genesis Evangelion before, but he is giving it a shot right now. Episode 1, here we go...

7. My friend watched this when we hung out. Funny because I don't watch a lot of anime, and I happen to scope this thread and that's the one up. If I remember right she always called it My-Otome. I tried googling it and got that spelling and Mai Otome. So I'm going with that haha. Mai Otome sounds more Asian.
8. I never said Kimba influenced the Lion King. I've never even seen Kimba, so that's a completely different topic all together. But to each their own, right? Haha.
9.
I survived my plane ride! I am now freezing my ass off in the snowy top california. beats the rain though... so much rain.... also, I sat next to this cute redhead on the plane and she gave me her number. I am not going to say it was my charm or looks, cause neither of those are all that special... but i did pull out my laptop and we played some doctor robotnics mean bean machine, Zombies ate my Neighbors, Marvel vs Capcom, and Ehrgeiz. on my emulators. it killed a lot of time and gave us things to talk about.. plus i showed her i was a gentlemen by letting her use my 360 controller. both my computer knowledge and gaming nerdynes actually had the opposite effect that you would expect.
Now that's what I'm talking 'bout. You just gotta know how to handle the situation. Respect Highfive!
10. Hm, no, it wasn't an anime. Although that's interesting there are multiple concepts. Perhaps Kimba came from the old story as well.
11. I watched a documentary years ago on the Lion King and some of the people working on the film discussed how they took the idea from an old Chinese (or some Asian culture...) story. I remember looking into it more online but only found a little bit of concept art and some other people stating the same thing. It's possible they were inspired by it.
12. The West is the Best :D And I've never played Guild Wars so I live a care-free life ;]
13. Ha ha ha ;] It's good to be back on OB where my initials can be DW again. 'Cause I've missed such jokes. (But it's cooler when I'm compared to Darkwing Duck).
14. Haha, I can see how that would ruin it for me too. It's pretty when you don't go there every year. I have no idea where those places are in that video, though. I think that dock is at Lake Michigan, though, which I am fortunate to live only a half an hour away from. And yes, it is gorgeous. I mean, look at this picture my friends took of me there... Detroit's area has its moments, but up North, I hear, is where all the beauty is. Still, my city of Grand Rapids is also very pretty. The pictures I could show...
15. Am I the only one with an actual picture of myself for my profile pic?

..and chibi-master is as adorable as you thought she was.

16. Haha, I've heard that, but the creators said they didn't have that in mind when they were making it. I think that's people trying hard to make debates, such as comparing Avatar with Dances With Wolves which is compared to Pocahontas. The Lion King isn't that original of a story, so of course it shares elements of Hamlet. Hamlet isn't original either, but it was then because no one did it before Shakespeare. The Lion King was literally ripped from a Chinese story with, I believe, the same name.
17. Well, they did The Lion King which was a story from China. So there's another 2D film. But even so, it's true. They don't always have to do fairy tales.
18. You would have to be pretty much not human to say you don't sing your favorite songs and actually be telling the truth. At least in the shower, right? Well, some of us are bound to actually get up the courage and perform covers of our favorite songs on camera. And that's what this thread is for. It's to post videos (or a link to a stream if you have it) of you and/or someone covering a song you like. This'll get some good music out there so people can hear it, plus everyone can hear your awesome talents! I love hearing covers so I'd like to see some of you :] I'll start us off. Here's a cover I did earlier this year by the band Sleeping At Last. The song is very pretty and soft, and is called "Keep No Score." The girl is my friend Cori who is the female vocalist that accompanies my vocals in my band Umbrella Bones. "Keep No Score" By Sleeping At Last God, let her listen With ears to the ground. Let voiceless approval Turn into sound. In death there are hidden, invisible keys That only when swallowed Reveal where they lead. Life is a mess We wake up to. A single thread of a deeper truth. Is this a graveyard To bury her heart? Or is it a garden Where new life will start? â??Cause God, when life here ends, Weâ??ll beg you for more. In temper weâ??ll hate you, But please keep no score. Life, it is a mess we wake up to, A single thread of a deeper truth.
19. She probably saw one of these gorgeous, Tim Allen-approved ads: But my sister lives in Detroit and I was there last week for Greenfield Village's Christmas display, so I know it's been chilly haha. My parents live in Carson City over by Lansing and I'm in Grand Rapids.
20. That girl is hard to get.

Oh, good. I was a little worried for a while.

21. Haha, I'd have about 2,000 more than that if we didn't lose all our posts during the change from OB Version 2.0 to 3.0. I was one of the original members from the very first version of OB back before 2000. And it's actually a very pleasant day outside here... for Michigan.
22. New Years is probably my least favorite holiday, actually. To be honest, I can't recollect a single good one I've had. I can recall several awful ones like one where my parents wouldn't let me go out so the girl I liked ended up hooking up with my friend instead of me. Or one where I once again stayed home just to see my cats vomit all over my bed. And last year I stood out in the cold in a big crowd where I was separated from my friends and got punched in the mouth by a stranger. I am waiting for the good New Years to come, so here's to hoping this one will be it!
23.
O_O I can sympathize... I have about 6 different books that I'm trying to read right now... I want to finish them all, but there's so many!
And I can sympathize with you. My mom is making me read The Book of Three and The Black Cauldron in only a few days so we can watch the Disney film before I go back to school. I'm on Christmas break and I'm still getting reading assignments. Silly, mother; I don't read!
