I think I posted in a topic like this one before... Oh well. I don't know if I can consider what I am a part of as a band. We started as A Pile of Dead Lovers, it was me and my friend Brad, we both did dueling vocals, I played guitar and wrote the songs, Brad played bass. We had a friend, Greg, who played drums with us, but his increasingly busy schedule forced him to quit after he missed about ten practices in a row. Since then, we've started playing with my friend, Neil, who plays guitar a bit better than me. We're working on getting my friend Shay to play drums for us, but her parents interfere way too much. So, I guess we're what you could call an emo/metal garage band, lol. Except we usually play in my bedroom (which is quite spacious). As A Pile of Dead Lovers, we've written four songs (from memory). We'd like to be more lyric-based, but we also enjoy playing technical parts. I find it difficult as a songwriter to balance out the heavyness and skill factor, especially when we sing/scream and play instruments at the same time. We haven't gotten good enough to where we can add vocal parts over difficult parts where I'd like them. And, you know... no drummer. We draw a lot of our inspiration from You and I, Neil Perry, Saetia, Protest the Hero, and Canvas Solaris. The last two don't really belong, but we enjoy the technicality of it and those bands inspired certain aspects of our sound.

What do you do when the power goes out?
Goodbye, Face replied to CyberPandaLove's topic in General Discussion
Usually, when the power goes out, I dust off the Magic: the Gathering cards and invite firends over. Me and this friend of mine have been known to go out and buy a few of those large tournament packs of cards, as well as some boosters. Basically, we'd take all the land cards out and put them in the middle for people to take from later, then we'd pass a few cards around, selecting one at a time and so forth. Then we'd pass pacls of the expansions sets around for some extra help, then try to build the best possible deck and win with it. The winner got to keep his deck and me and the aforementioned partner-in-crime would split the rest, since we didn't charge. I've also been in a friend's house while the power was out and we had a nice candle-lit game of Dungeons and Dragons. I did have that classic moment where my mom walks down the basement steps to pick me up from the place and we're all in hoodies and blankets while talking about elves. XD Too bad I haven't had power since getting my Nintendo DS or my laptop. Well, not really. -
If you could meet other OtakuBoards members, would you?
Goodbye, Face replied to a topic in General Discussion
I've told a lot of people I've met here that I'd actually love to see them in real life. I've told Sage Kaley, Dragon Warrior, Doc, and John over and over that I think they're wonderful people and would do anything to meet them. There's also Revelation, Nataniamon (who doesn't go here anymore), Generic NPC #3, DeadSeraphim, and an evening out with James would be fun too, as I've told him. I feel like I'm forgetting people. ;_; Okay, fine. You too, Baron. :bdance: -
Your Most Anticipated Coming CD Release
Goodbye, Face replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Noosphere
I actually got to listen to a lot of AFI's Decemberunderground today, being the first time I've played their songs in at least a year. I think the music's better than Sing the Sorrow, overall, however the songs all seem to run together to me. Where Sing the Sorrow's songs were all pretty unique from eachother, Decemberunderground feels like I have the same three songs on repeat or something. Maybe it's something that repeated listens and an eventual legal copy of the cd will cure. Or maybe I have, in fact, grown out of AFI. An upcoming cd I definitely plan on getting is Define the Great Line, by UnderOath. The album leaked months ago, and a lot of people loved what was on the leak. UnderOath supposedly released a statement saying that the leak was not of the final mix that will be on the actual cd, also promising additional content. I'd personally be overjoyed to simply have a real copy of what was on the leak. I haven't been a fan of UnderOath since they've enlisted Spencer as their vocalist, but I retracted that after hearing Define the Great Line. I think they've finally found their new sound, and I can't wait to hear the final version of the cd. Also, there's a new Hot Cross album coming in October. If you haven't heard of them, they are a legendary Screamo supergroup (formed by members of Saetia, Off Minor, Neil Perry, and Joshua Fit for Battle) that just joined the ranks of Equal Vision Records last week. Yep, they've finally made it to the level of mainstream acts like Coheed & Cambria and Alexisonfire. Although they've lost a guitarist since Fair Trades & Farewells, I can't wait to hear what comes out of the label shift. There's also Killwhitneydead's "Booze and Other Bad Habits" which is coming out this fall, I think. -
Although this is probably not what you were expecting, there are two Japanese hardcore bands that I am big fans of: Envy and Naiad. I don't know much about Naiad, as one of my friends burned me their cd and information on them is tough to find. Envy in particular is very popular among American fans of the Screamo genre. They gained popularity here after the supergroups Hot Cross and City of Caterpillar toured Japan with them. Both Envy and Naiad have this way of building up heaviness, then letting go into atmospheric segments. It may be worth your time to check them out. :)

While I'm never bored in guitar class, it is the only class that I can get away with things. The teacher, Mr. Dennis, told us once that there was this kid in one of his classes last year that would draw charicatures of him on the board doing something gross or humorous. So about a week after he said it, I became that guy's successor. Whenever Mr. Dennis would leave the room I would run up to the board and draw a huge Dennis face with a word bubble nearby that would say something silly. I'd also overexaggerate his hair. I still don't think he's caught on to who it is yet. But I found it entertaining when I would wirte something, he would read it and leave it alone, then he'd turn away for a while and someone else would sneak up and change what the word bubble said. Especially great ones were when what the Dennis face was saying reflected the song we were playing, and changed before each song. I had "NO METAL RIFFS!" up there, Mr. Dennis saw it and had a laugh and continued on. We were about to play a song called "Sunset Tango," so Chris runs over really fast, erases the metal riffs line, replacing it with "TANGO!" So then we played a song called "Streets of Lorado" and Matt went up and changed the words to "LORADO!" and soforth. So try something like that if you can get away with it. :)

Writing Final Fantasy VIII - Orior Palam Deus - FINAL CUT
Goodbye, Face replied to Doublehex's topic in Creative Works
Good to see that you're still posting this here, friend, although you didn't get any comments on the original version. I like the smaller sectilons better, as it's just easier for me to take the time to read. I've already told you my opinion.
The man wiped away at his long, golden hair, his face long and narrow but still full of strength. His armor was black and golden, the shoulders long and rigid like daggers. The emblem of a lion pouncing its prey was melded onto the chest plate, and in the lion?s jaw was a scarlet jewel. A red cape enveloped the man?s armor, adding to the image of a once powerful man.
That paragraph is an attempt to smoothly work in some character details without bothering the pacing and action. Well, it doesn't quite work. One look at it and you think "Oh, that's character development," and I just think it needs to be spread out more. Throw in the sentence about the hair and move on, saving the armor for the next paragraph or whatever. I think it will flow better, and you'll get the same idea of the character without it being obviously flung at you. The rest is pretty good and I have no problems with it, good luck! -
I have a decent list. :) My favorite PS1 game by far, and what I consider to be my favorite game period... is Vagrant Story. It's not completely an RPG, but it has magic, strategy, item collecting, etc. and it's made by Square. I love the combat and the customization in the game, and the story is just badass. It's a shame no one really bought it, but trust me on this, if you find a copy, buy it. You won't be dissappointed. I'm also a big fan of Legend of Legaia, which incorporated a fresh combat system which never really gets dull. You can summon some of the monsters you defeat, as well as utilize a different combo you select by pressing different directions. You can link special moves together and soforth, it's really fun and relieves the nausea of just pressing "attack" over and over. Chrono Cross would be next, but everyone's played that game and it's been mentioned here a few times already. I liked how certain things in Grandia were done, such as when you run by fragile objects on tables. There was a lot of humor in the game, and it never got really dark in mood at all from what I played. I never finished it because there was a cutscene that would come up at a certain point and freeze the game before it could even play. I also loathed the combat system. It wasn't a horrible game, though. Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is also great if you enjoyed the PS2 Shin Megami Tensei games. I haven't played all the way through it yet, but it's a pretty great game so far.

I'm actually dealing with a problem where I got dumped by a girl who's two years younger than me for a guy who is two years older than me. She's jailbait and I just find myself worried about her situation. She blindly loves him, although he has a tricky reputation. He only goes out with young girls, four years difference or even more and he doesn't see the wrong in that. As long as she's happy, I can't really mind it too much. However, I am in the mind that this guy is sick, I just don't want her hurt. Just a personal experience. :)

I can understand the benefits of AA, believe me. However, my dad is one of the white males that got the short end of the stick. He worked at Procter & Gamble for over 25 years, and was at the point to where he was the head of the toothpaste line he worked on. One of his jobs was to teach the newcomers how to run the different machinery, blah blah blah. Well, most of these newcomers were immigrants from various places, barely able to speak or understand English. He would be teaching him one week, then the next week they would be his boss. A lot of the senior employees were being forced into retirement by the company and dad was on the list. He never got the manager job he wanted, but a bunch of the immigrants that hadn't even been there for a few months got the jobs. There were promotions being posted that were only availible for a certain race and soforth. So, my father left, believing that the company was setting itself up for failure by letting all these newbies take the important jobs. He obviously had major problems with the way the company was run, and I believe he was justified.

I personally don't understand the reason people would actually want to spend $40 on a regular T-shirt with the word "Abercrombie" printed onto it. I've gone up and asked people what such clothes mean to them, and they can't come up with anything. What they wear means nothing to them, it seems, and it just doesn't make sense. You should either wear clothes that seriously look good on you, or clothes that mean something to you, regardless of wether it's in print, stitches, or in memories. Me? I normally wear the typical rock band T-shirts and gray or blue jeans everyday. I don't mind advertising something I like, and that I feel actually deserves the money. It's beyond whatever ******** clothing company and more about supporting something that I love. Plus, at shows, you can usually get shirt ridiculously cheap. The really local bands cut great deals and throw out freebies. :) I feel like I haven't said the right words to get my point across without sounding egotistical or something.

Fine, I'll keep this going. Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer - "Argh, I'm a Pirate!" So let's turn this room into a pirate's ship and plunder each other. New word: cutlery

Most tuners, to my experience, can tune in Drop-D or anything you want, really. My pedal has a tuner in it which tells me what note I am playing and a dot whose positioning tells me how close to the perfect note I am. I'm pretty sure most tuners are like that, but I've only ever messed with two.

How often do you visit the OB?
Goodbye, Face replied to Hanabishi Recca's topic in General Discussion
The furthest back I can track myself is October, 2001 (as Axel--Ignition). I know that wasn't my frist post, though. I made several posts in the introduction forum, a few posts in Final Fantasy, then left for a month or so. I have no recollection of when I actually started posting here. As far as how often I'm on here is concerned, I try to get on here everyday. I don't always find anything interesting to post in, but I read almost every post that comes through here. Soemtimes me catching up takes 15 minutes or two hours, just depeending on how eventful OB is. -

I was sort of in the same boat as you recently. I have liked a certain friend of mine, we'll call her "M," for about a year and a half. One of M's friends told me a little over a month ago that M had developed a crush for me. I took the opportunity and asked her out. She said yes, and we had one good night together. The next time I got in contact with her, she broke up with me, saying that she rushed in without thinking. I found out the rest of the story by myself that there was another guy who she liked more than me, and he asked her out. So, I was #2 in this situation. So, from my experience, if it feels like you're rushing into something, just wait. And yes, I wouldn't even tell your parents that you like someone in the first place. It's at least twice the drama than you need.

I suppose I'm in a band. We're really just a group of friends who play together when we're able. I have been in two bands before, but I perfer to erase those from my memory. Name: A Pile of Dead Lovers (unofficially) Genre(s): Screamo, Post Rock, Grindcore Location: High Point and Greensboro, NC Influences: The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Circle Takes the Square, City of Caterpillar, Off Minor, Canvas Solaris, The Sound of Animals Fighting We've only written two of our own songs so far, and both are similar to Between the Buried and Me or City of Caterpillar in a way that they start really heavy before suddenly going into calmer, more subdued rythms. I have no major plans for this band, it's just something fun to do.

I was at that tour, Every Time I Die sold me on that one. I do like Haste the Day's music, but I never really cared for their vocalist. I can't say I'd really miss him all that much if he is leaving. I guess the best thing to do is wait until they make an announcement on their site or something, sorry I can't be of help.

Damn, I was wondering why we were saying "Translating the Name" just came out. ;_; And yeah, Saosin changed a LOT, probably for the worse, when Cove joined. I have a signed Circa Survive poster too... >_>;
-
Saosin is one of my favorite bands out there. While I'm not too much of a fan of their new stuff (with Cove replacing Anthony as their vocalist), I follow them religiously. I'm just going to do a rundown of anything they've recorded that I know of. Translating the Name EP 1. Seven Years 2. Translating the Name 3. 3rd Measurement in C 4. Lost Symphonies 5. They Perched on Their Stilts, Pointing and Daring Us to Break Custom Demos with Anthony Green I Can Tell There Was an Accident Here Earlier I Have Become What I've Always Hated Show Me Yo Bootyhole (aka. "Crap Rap") Mookie's Last Christmas Seven Years (Acoustic) 3rd Measurment in C (Acoustic) Saosin EP (with Cove Reber) 1. Bury Your Head 2. I Wanna Hear Another Fast Song 3. New Angel 4. Lost Symphonies (Live) 5. Bury Your Head (Acoustic) Demos with Cove I Can Tell There Was an Accident Here Earlier (Second Version) Penelope (Acoustic) Dead and Lonely I only do that because there's so many people that get it wrong, and there's no copies left of Translating the Name, so everyone gets track titles wrong, and some people think that album doesn't even exist. Also, a lot of Anthony Green's other side-projects get mixed into Saosin somehow on P2P networks, etc. Now, if you're a fan of the former singer of Saosin, he's been in quite a few other bands afterwards. They include High and Driving, Jeer At Rome, Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer, Circa Survive, and The Sound of Animals Fighting. He also has his own solo songs, which have some amusing titles. Obviously, I'm a major Anthony Green fan, lol. He has a... beautiful voice, especially in Circa Survive, where he really shows it off. Other than that, my favorite Saosin song is "They Perched on Their Stilts, Pointing and Daring Us to Break Custom," it's one of their heaviest and the chorus is really energetic. The band's Wikipedia page mentions more albums earlier than Translating the Name, but they're likely impossible to find.

*wakes up* Yep! OB did get pwned by RX78. I haven't seen him around at all other than in that thread. Sad. :( So go ahead and post your image, Boo.

This person's work wowed me a while back. It's not digital but it's pretty unique. Hint: Artist's name's from Gundam. And if we're not doing traditional art, let me know and I'll find another.

That'd be John. I saw it from concept to completion, and I'm still begging him to submit it to Threadless so I can buy a shirt with that on it. :) Do I wait for an answer now? XD
