You need to take care of that...
Goodbye, Face replied to vegeta rocker's topic in General Discussion
lol, I'm almost 19 and I just renewed my driving permit. I have friends on call at pretty much any time to take me anywhere, and they keep me so busy most of the time that I just never have the chance to drive. But I'm probably getting my license this week, considering how it's been going lately. I had this major fear of parking for the longest time. And since summer began, I buckled down and worked out every day I had a chance, but I've seen almost no improvement, which is really lame. I kind of want to start running around the neighborhood or something, so if I had to start up something, it would be that. I also really need to get myself together for a job hunt. I've decided that I'm going to see how things are after a week of college life before I turn in my applications, the thing is, I have a stack of like 20... and I haven't filled any of them out. I really need some cash for art supplies and books... and a guitar that actually works. -
Cosmetic Surgery? Yay or Nay?
Goodbye, Face replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
I've already had cosmetic surgery. I got two cysts about the diameter of a dime removed from next to my right eye. Before you think bad things about me, the one closest to my eye was still growing, and within another year of me having it, it would've pressed up against my eyeball and I'd have more problems. It cost me a grand total of $15. :) -
As far as I know, install the game on your computer, save all of the information on the disc onto you computer somewhere, and go through all the files of the installed game in Notepad or whatever and change the lines that point to the disc so that they point to the corresponding file you saved on your computer. I only did this with StarCraft, though.

User Names: Because Repeat Threads Are Good For You!
Goodbye, Face replied to SunfallE's topic in General Discussion
I was RiflesAtRecess before, but I got sick of how that name represents me, so I started changing everything about a year ago. My name here was the last to be changed. All of my current screen names come from pg.99 songs that have lyrics which are meaningful to me, including "Goodbye, Face," "Calmsong," "Comedy of Christ," and "My Application to Heaven..." Honestly, though, I just like this name. -
Pretentious Music for Pretentious Musicians
Goodbye, Face replied to Jakehammaren's topic in Noosphere
Pretentious music? Well, Boys Night Out recorded a concept album called Trainwreck, which Wikipedia describes as: "... a tightly-knit concept album that followed the loss of sanity of one man following the murder of his wife he committed in his sleep." Lyrically, it's powerful and disturbing (although some of the vocals are overshadowed by the music, which is, on its own, very good). The guitar melodies are often unique, and make note, perhaps even key, changes you definitely wouldn't expect. It's aggressive, it's moving, it's gentle, it's energetic; basically a very good album.
I keep hearing from fans of the band that this is their absolute worst album, so I basically skipped over it. I like Make Yourself Sick and their new s/t, though. I just keep hearing that this album was awful, so I'm intrigued that you like it. (and people have heard of Pelican and BNO, so they're not that pretentious. They're both actually really popular.) -
Pretentious Music for Pretentious Musicians
Goodbye, Face replied to Jakehammaren's topic in Noosphere
Good man, Jake. So uhhh, I switched my last.fm page over to "overall artists for the past six months" instead of since I began it in 2005. I was getting really tired of new favorite not being able to progress because my entire top 50 artists were in the thousands. So when I did this, I discovered that my soul has been sucked into a certain band for the past six months, North of America. Yes, lol, they're from Canada. They're virtually unknown, even in Canada, yet despite this they have five albums, that I know of. They play math rock that fits perfectly in the San Diego region's scene. At first listen to their last two albums, you would have no idea that there's only four members. All of them sing, and the guitars are so perfectly intertwined, it sounds like there's thousands of them at some moments. Their stuff is hard to come by, even to purchase, but if you look hard enough, there's MP3's. Level Plane Records has a song on their media page: here. -
Coal Chamber is like 10x better than DevilDriver. I had to suffer with listening to two of their albums back to back on a three hour car ride. They play the most boring, uninspired metalcore I've ever heard in my life. I was about as disappointed in them as I was when I found out that Justin Graves left Neil Perry to play double-bass in a metalcore band (although A Life Once Lost is actually really good). Oh, and don't talk about how good Coheed and Cambria is and mention Good Apollo, I Am A Really Long Title IV. The only song on that album that stands up to their material on Second Stage Turbine Blade is "Welcome Home." IV was a disappointment.

There's a local band here that I saw once where the guitarist's guitar was tuned and distorted to where it sounded like a bass, and their bass was raised up to where it was a pretty convincing guitar. I have no idea why they'd want to do that, but I was pretty surprised. It's a nice gimmick I guess. So, I play a rip-off of a Fender strat. It's by a company called New York Pro and it's a complete piece of ****. On top of that, I bought it used. From a flea market. My amp came with said guitar, the brand is Danville. It's the size of my head. I got my dad to pay for this while we were shopping in Florida, and as soon as I got home, the knob on the bottom which holds the strap on pulled the hell out. I had to get that repaired. Whenever I strum the bass-E string, its peg rattles. I'm too broke for another guitar or amp, and music does not run in my family AT ALL. My parents think I'm wasting time and they don't want me living the "rock and roll lifestyle" so they won't pitch in for me to afford something. I managed to get a pretty nice pedal by Digitrex two years ago. It does pretty much everything under the sun, 80 built-in functions and you can program over 40 of them. I'm happy with it, but I definitely need more specialized equipment. My favorite guitarist is probably Josh Jakubowski who played in several influential hardcore bands like Hot Cross, The Now, Joshua Fit for Battle, and Neil Perry. He could shred but also play really touching, melodic pieces and combine them seamlessly. When he played in Hot Cross, he adopted a technical style that carried the entire band's sound. When he left the band, their sound never really recovered from it.

In all honesty, though, I think The Dillinger Escape Plan said it best:
MTV.com reports: A beef between AVENGED SEVENFOLD and THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN is taking shape. According to DILLINGER's MySpace page, a feud had been festering for several months when AVENGED frontman M. Shadows turned up the heat during a recent interview, saying DILLINGER "make sh---y noises and try to pass it off as music." "What about bands that make sh---y noise and try to pass it off as GUNS N' ROSES?" a DILLINGER MySpace post read in response. "This guy and his merry band of musical clowns get more hilarious by the minute. M. Shadows' real name is Matt Sanders or some sh--." With that in mind, DILLINGER say they've decided to change their stage names in derision. "So, in his honor, our new names are officially as follows: G. Piranha, Blaster Master Weinman, Bullwhip Benoit, Corpsef---er Pennie [and] Leafeater Wilson. Those are going to be the names on our new CD ? 100 percent serious."
(2006)

lol, you just said "punk rock" and "The Killers" in the same paragraph. And really, you should just stop talking about genres and just stick with naming bands, because Sum 41 isn't punk, either. I hate doing this, but damn.
His screaming was so bad it distracted me from the rest of the band. And they are amazing! As for M Shadows voice, I thought he sung well in the song River, with Good Charlette.
Because he's with Good Charlotte. A dead cat would sound good next to them.

If you read that Wiki article, it says that the current emo stems from Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional, and the term was basically used to separate their lyrics from those of other rock bands at the time. These bands weren't any different from pop-rock, but their record companies advertised them as this certain image, and I know at least Jimmy Eat World hated it. Bands like My Chemical Romance are nothing more than alternative rock. Bands like Underoath are Metalcore (although with some emo influences). Those bands are all so different from eachother that it is impossible that they are in the same genre. Meanwhile, there are hundreds if not thousands of modern, active bands that fit the 80's and 90's emo style and have continued to evolve it like how it should be in any genre. As far as screamo evolving from emo, that's not necessarily true. Screamo was coined as a term for the resurgence of the old style of emo when the new style was in full swing and is the generally accepted term for all of the hardcore punk-influence emo. Unfortunately, as Wiki will point out, Screamo is often attached to any band that screams, including metal/core bands, which is ridiculous.
While I do also like Death Cab For Cutie, Brand New, etc. (now we're on the subject of different types of emo), Hawthorne Heights and other such bands - Aiden included - turn ears into sea urchins. I cannot stand that kind of sound. And can everyone calm down, surely you are all entitled to opinions? EDIT: Umm... nah it's definitely a lot heavier than screamo lol. EDIT: But then I also love stuff like Gallows, Enter Shikari, and Glassjaw...
Guys, this is emo. I think that was my original point. So uhhh, hating a band because they're emo is cool, but let's not do that to bands who aren't emo. I'm just seeing that a lot and it's really unfair to the bands and it's really misinformed of you guys.
-
Misinformed emo-related ********.
I'm not defending that guy either, so I don't want to hear it. But what MCR and Say Anything play are so far away from emo that I don't understand how you could get that wrong. They don't even fit in with the Bright Eyes and Dashboard Confessional style of "emo" that I normally get disgusted over. Now I know that you are going to nitpick at me to gain some sort of ground. So yes, I am aware that you said all that stuff about MCR not being emo. Nice. But then you actually go back against that for Say Anything. I don't know where you got that from, as their MySpace even says that they're Indie/Rock, which is perfect (even if they are not, in fact, independent) for describing their sound. I have not heard Max say that they're emo ever, and they actually make really, really, really good music. Prem, just... stop posting here if you're not going to try and be educated about who you're dissing.

Favorite genre. And does your family like it?
Goodbye, Face replied to Aberinkula's topic in Noosphere
I'm going to have to disagree vehemently. Revolver is a terrible metal resource. An the "Hottest Chicks in Metal" issue was AWFUL. Most of the girls they featured aren't even in metal bands! They included Made Out of Babies and Evanescence, for Christ's sake! What the...? I thought this was hottest chicks in metal! And they always make this big deal out of it, saying that "there are hardly any women in metal, so we're getting the few of them out there". NEWS FLASH: THERE ARE TONS OF WOMEN IN METAL. For the sake of the Gods, Revolver could have done 5 minutes of research and come up with countless metal bands with female members. I mean countless. Everything from Battlelore to Equilibrium to Cthonic to Skumring... the list seriously goes on for miles. It's not uncommon. Come on people. Ugh. I hate Revolver. And they call Bullet for my Valentine a metal band, and even featured Trivium - one of most poserific bands of all time - as "saviors of metal". SHAME.
I wonder if Laura from Kylesa was in that feature. She'd probably easily make top of the list. haha And why would they use Made Out of Babies for Julie Christmas rather than Battle of Mice? Battle of Mice is actually somewhat metal (if you consider Isis and Pelican metal). Also, I hate large publications like Revolver because they add points to their ratings based on what labels buy ad space from them. There are plenty of reviews I've seen from these magazines that make me think that these guys were on some good drugs when they were listening to a bad cd. But that's a different thread. -
My Gateway has something like what you've described. Basically it has a partition where a back-up copy of Windows XP is kept, and if something like viruses were to ruin C:/ or whatever, one can restart the computer and wail on the F11 key until a menu pops up with several options, including moving all of your files to a back-up folder (this also renders the viruses that you have pretty much useless) and reinstalling Windows. I've never used an HP, so yours might be really different.

Favorite genre. And does your family like it?
Goodbye, Face replied to Aberinkula's topic in Noosphere
Haha, Jake just has to start a war with everybody. About a year ago, I would've answered this with the hardcore genre, or maybe even Metalcore. However, in the last six months or so I've gotten into more calm music and growing out of everything but my absolute favorite hardcore bands, haha. It's actually a really natural direction to follow, as many old hardcore/emo bands like Saetia and Orchid reformed in newer bands like Hot Cross (R.I.P.) and Panthers. Those bands kept the hardcore influence but turned it down a notch for good musicianship. So I've been getting more and more into Math Rock lately, and that's my favorite genre. Consisting of bands like Drive Like Jehu, Shellac, North of America, and Cinemechanica, math rock is at the most basic level, rock music that is played in a obscure time signature that may or may not switch throughout the song. So basically it sounds like regular radio rock except it's a little more artistic and radios think artistic music is too risky. So uhh, given that this is a clear improvement from the Converge and Dillinger Escape Plan records I've been making my parents suffer though, my parents are much happier about my tastes in music and let me actually fill the family Charger RT with math rock. :D -
As much as I love the .hack franchise, the first quadrilogy just sucks and isn't worth Dessy's 200 hours. It's fun at first, but by the third game, it just becomes a chore with no incentive to push forward. He should, however, get that Megaman X Collection, even though he dislikes the games. That's a lot of wasted talent, man. Also, he needs to save up for an Xbox 360 so he can join us GS'ers on Live. :)

In like 1993 or 94, there was a show called Ronin Warriors that was on one of the major channels (I think CBS?) and my cousins (who were living with me for the summer) and I would make it part of our routine to watch it everyday because it was awesome. It got ported over to Cartoon Network years later. But yeah, eventually, the same channel started showing Dragonball on Sunday mornings for some reason, and then the show was taken off. We got cable in 1998, and with that came CN, which had Dragonball Z. So I basically started like that. I got into manga simply by loving FLCL and then seeing the manga somewhere, and then my friend got me into Death Note, so I've been working on a set of those.

I never read or saw the fourth book/movie, or anything after that, so I don't really know what was cut out. I did enjoy the movie, though. I thought the fights felt like they were cut short for some reason. But I also loved that Marla Singer had such a prominent role, haha. I swear that woman plays the same kind of character in all of her movies and she was so perfect for it. I hope you know what I'm talking about here.

Apparently, there was no mention of the "extra content" of the new Vista version of Gears of War coming to the Xbox 360 as well. They're getting five new chapters and a new final boss, as well as an editor tool. It would've been better to call this new material a sequel. But maybe it will come out on the 360 and I'm just paranoid.

I pretty much just play Gears of War online, but I can be compelled to play some DOA4, PDZ, or Quake 4. Pokemon Diamond Name: DELTA Code: 1804 8877 3939 I am ALWAYS up for new people to play GoW or Pokemon with, hahaha.

I live directly between three important cities in North Carolina. My development was annexed by Jamestown, but I live in High Point, essentially. I'm going to college in the third city, Greensboro, so I've pretty much adopted that as my city. Recently, though, a lot of my favorite places have been closing down. There's only two places to go to concerts now, one being an art gallery, haha. Overall, I love the city. There's really old stuff and really new stuff kind of built on top of it. From what I know, they renovated the city, tearing down old buildings and replacing them with new ones. It's really beautiful now. I don't really know what to say. Haha
-
Oh, and I totally forgot From a Second Story Window
Their recorded stuff is pretty generic, but you really need to see them live. They are so much better, they play their stuff faster and it's just more energetic. Oh, and who did you see, DaSilva, who was supporting A7X here? Don't misunderstand, I want those guys dead, haha.

I have to agree with you on Circa Survive. I've been a fan of Anthony since he was in Saosin, but I was still blown away by On Letting Go. I seriously believe that's going to be the best album of this decade. I'm not even kidding. I want to see them live again so I can see the new math rock-inspired guitars in action, and maybe so we can show Anthony around Greensboro some more. He wrote about it on the band's MySpace blog the next day, that was so cool. And another awesome band nomiation goes to Panthers. Three members of one of the bands that influenced everything I listen to now (Orchid) formed this band when Orchid split up. They had their own style, but their newest album kind of sounds like QOTSA. Think what you will of that, but these guys are amazing.
