1. You mean who changed music forever? Now before you start, I have to say Michael Jackson. Why? just think about it he's been performing since he was a little kid back in the 70's, and dancing became very popular around the time he was doing it. He practically invented alot of things used today, and influences alot of people including Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and alot of other people that are hot in today's hollywood society. Also have to state Whitney Houston who inspires Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys and alot of other known artists. Arertha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, The Beatles, there are alot of old-time artists that influence people. Its hard to list all of them/
2. I kinda have to agree with Attimus331 on one thing, I do count on myself for alot of things. It comes with being an independent type of person. Yes I listen to my friends more then my family because most of the time my family only gets me in trouble (sorry but yes not trying to sound like a "retarded" teenager as wrist cutter puts it) but they have a tendency to give me wrong advice most of the time and get me in trouble. Its hard when your not close to your family, and its more like they don't listen to me, so i'd have to say 50% of my strength comes from me and the rest my friends. There are more trustworthy then my family. Sad but also true. Except my perverted Grandma, shes the only one that listens to me lol
3.
My most awkward moment was at band camp (SHUT UP, ALL OF YOU!! :) ). Me and my friend were going to get some lunch on the first day and we didn't know anybody there. While we were looking for a place to sit, we met these two girls name Jamie and Liz. They led us over to a table and we all sat down and began to eat. While we were eating, this really hot guy that I became friends with later on asked if he could sit with us because there were no other seats. As he sat down, all he did was stare at me. I didn't realize it until a few minutes after he started doing it. I looked up at him and said "...Can I help you?" He replied, "No, but I can help you." Then he took his napkin and wiped some sauce off my face from the pizza I'd been eating...somehow, he ended up poking me in the eye...
Hot guy at Band Camp? Sign me up! hehe. But seriously, I've had alot of awkward moments like that, too many to list. Some that I can name are....Last summer when I was working at this learning center for kids, there was this lady there that would always backtalk me to my teacher (i babysat her kids so she would give me a ride to work) about how im lazy, cant do anything and acted like i never wanted to be there. So one day my teacher told me about it, and brought it up, I never felt the same around here since. We never really talked but we accidently bumped into eachother in the hallway and had the most awkwardess conversation ever. After about three words it was like complete silence and we we're just staring at eachother "..................................." I don't know why but thats the longest awkward silence I've ever experienced in my life. A second awkward moment would have to be this guy telling me his sexual experiences with all his girlfriends lol believe it or not this happens alot and I hate it when guys feel they have to share all this information with me. Please I really do not want to know. Omg.
4.
What is it in particular about strange animes that you want people to talk about? Just asking people if they've seen them doesn't really work as a topic. What is it that makes strange anime so appealing? What is the strangest one you've seen? What makes it strange? That sort of thing. I understand you've made an effort to re-vamp your previous topic, but you need to make sure that the discussion will be able to carry intelligently- just asking people to reply gives them either too much or too little scope for respond ^_~
I agree with this. You should make your topics more in-depth next time. Anyways I'd have to point out the first anime that comes to mind when I think of "Strange" would have to be Revolutionary Girl Utena. Strangest and most unique anime I've ever seen, even more so then FLCL, I still don't get it in a way. I like it but its still very bizzarre. FLCL would come next in this category since its more random then strange.
5.
Wow, I was extremely surprised to see that there's no thread for this movie, especially considering how much I'd heard about it from other people o_O; Anyway, I had the opportunity to see this movie at my uncle's house today. As mentioned earlier, I'd heard a lot about the movie from people that I know, and I had fairly high expectations for it. It more than exceeded those, honestly. For those who are wondering, Napoleon Dynamite is about a high schooler of the same name, who is a gigantic nerd, and just really bizarre in general. The movie follows seemingly random events that happen over a few days, such as a school dance, a class president election, and other such things. What makes the movie unique is how these events are presented - the movie jumps from one scene to the next without that much cohesion. Oftentimes the scenes that are presented really don't have that much to do with the scenes that preceeded them. However, it works very well, because it fits into the style of the movie, and is used to make things funnier. And, wow, what a funny movie this is. It's so random, bizarre and ridiculous that you just can't help but laugh at it. Napoleon is such a funny character - everything about him is great, from the way he talks, to what he says, to how he moves around. He's so strange lol. The rest of the characters are likewise odd, ranging from Napoleon's equally weird brother Kip, to Pedro, someone who Napoleon befriends near the beginning of the movie. I honestly can't think of a single moment during the movie where I wasn't entertained. I watched it with my sister, and it's so packed full of moments where you just look at the person you're watching it with (it's definitely better to watch it with at least one other person), and burst out laughing. To those who have seen it, and loved it, you're probably picking up the DVD soon, or have already picked it up. To those who haven't seen it, I suggest that you give it a try, because Napoleon Dynamite is well worth seeing at least once.
I only watched a small portion of Napolean Dynamite on Christmas Eve with my family, they didn't get it. I thought his brother was kinda funny but over-all I don't think I was really getting into it. It was too...how you say fast? and trying to be too funny when really it was just kinda lame. But thats my opinion, I think it would be one of those movies you watch if you had a drink or too but its not really my kind of humour. Napolean himself is funny looking, but most of the things he says or does is really confusing. I don't know why but it just wasn't humorous to me, and I usually like stupid comedy movies. Oh well, I suggest someone can try it, but I'm more of the Adam Sandler/Ben Stiller type I suppose.
6. Wow okay I have alot of them. Let me see... 1. Harem Anime. There is always a guy surrounded by about 8 girls, and they ALL have a crush on him. But its always the other main character girl that dates him at the end, and even after she does, they still all like him. Wierd and annoying isn't it? why isn't it ever a girl with 8 guys liking her? *cough* maybe cause theres mostly men making these animes? duh. 2. Whenever the main character falls in love with someone, and that person likes them back, they almost never tell eachother their feelings. It usually takes halfway into the anime or at the very end they become a couple. (wth is up with that!?) 3. If there is an agressive stereotype (like Kagome from Inu Yasha) they always have to punch someone when their mad, or scream in people's faces when they get angry. Nevermind that the person always forgives them or doesnt even get angry back when being punched (they also fly high up into the air or across the room hitting a wall). They are NEVER quiet, and are always in demand of attention. You have to admit this has truth to it.
7.
I don't know if I'd call Invader Zim that old of a show really. Ren and Stimpy, yes, but Zim? Hardly. Of course to you youngins out there, Zim being first aired in 2001 could seem like a long time ago, but some of you I suppose were just being born or don't remember when Ren and Stimpy first aired on Nickelodeon back in 1991. Nick was cool back in those days with shows like Wild and Crazy Kids, Salute Your Shorts, Pete and Pete, All That, Guts, R&S, Hey Dude, Doug, Rugrats, etc. As time went on, though, Nick started selling out to a supposed image of kids today and if you try and watch Nick you'll see that you can't watch it for more than an hour before you wonder who you are and what year it is. Ren and Stimpy was always a cool show. It may seem disgusting but it's just cartoony humor, kind of like those shows were meant to be rather than stupid things (in my opinion) like Chalk Zone and other dumb shows to that point. Ren and Stimpy was cooler when their original creators had the rights to the shows but when Nick stepped in in the 2nd season and fired him and his crew, the show went downhill in a hurry. I wouldn't say a similar thing happened with Zim because Nick never fired anyone, it's just that ratings were abysmal and they decided to cut their losses and toss the show before they lost anymore money. It's a shame when a decent (I'm not ever gonna say great of even good) show like Zim get's shipped out and cancelled but it happens. Nick these days anyways. If only we had old school Nick back (around the R&S era up to even 6-7 years ago), then we'd be in business again.
Yay! I love looking back at all the Nick shows I use to watch in the 90's since they messed them up so badly later on. I admit I use to watch Ren & Stimpy although its the most stupidest show when I look at it now. Doug actually was somewhat an intelligent show for kids, atleast he taught you something at the end of the episodes, plus i was in love with porkchop and skeeter XD Rugrats were also very popular. I also remember watching the old All and That, now they have Britney Spears little sister on the show? What has this world come too? Nickelodean will never be the same again *sniffles* Although I loved Inzader Zim, its become a fashion icon for Hot Topic though. Too trendy now that its kinda lost its flavor you know. Ah the good old days....how sometimes I wish I could be a little kid again.
8.
Road rage...ah, how stupid it is, but how funny it can be. I'm not saying that I encourage it, but if you're hyper enough, it's like a circus on crack-minus the clowns. My mom can be so bad at keeping herself in check with that kind of stuff. On the way to the airport before a vacation one day, this lady was tailgating us. She finally got a chance to go around us. She slowed down next to us to flip my mom off and then she sped off. My mom about lost it. She started chasing after the lady and I swear, if my sister hadn't yelled at her, she'd have rammed that lady off the road. The entire time she was chasing the lady, she was cursing up a storm. This story raises a question about common sense though-If the lady wanted to get by us so badly, what was the point of slowing down just to make someone mad? People, I've learned through experience, are stupid. The masses are, anyway.
Call me bad, but I laughed when I read this story. Its hilarious but also reminds me of my mom and sister. I think what causes Road Rage is because there are stupid people driving out on the highways not knowing what they are doing and can cause accidents because of it. There was this one time where this one lady was tailgating my mom and kept honking her horn repeatedly trying to get by. My mom thought the lady was going to tell her she has a flat tire cause we heard a funny noise from the car awhile back so we let her in, turns out she was probably just late for work and drove on past us. Stupid really. She kept doing that to every freakin car that she drove up to and swerved between lanes, I can't stand people like that. It's just like everything comes down to her. Its stupid people on the road that causes Road Rage, why let them get away with it if you can tell them wrong?
9. Considering I live in California and all it does is rain, rain and more rain over here, having snow would be very welcoming. I haven't seen snow since I was probably around 10 years old :( sad really. I use to go up to Lake Tahoe and ride a sled down a hill. That was the funnest thing, oh and snowball fights! I'd definately have to say Sleding although I'm bigger now I'd probably fall over but thats the only thing I really remember. If only it snowed in CALI...*Sigh* oh well. back to the stupid rain.
10.
Santa used to exist to me, but he doesn't to me now. I asked my mum how he got in without a chimney and she said he has the house keys (give that some thought for a moment and you'd find it scary that a stranger has the keys to my house). However, I had many ways to prove my mum and dad wrong: 1. We watched a video in my room (me and my brother) on Christmas Eve, and it had finished. I was still awake, and I went downstairs at like... midnight to tell my parents, I walked down and found them putting together a bike, my bike for Christmas. Looks like Santa didn't bring it. 2. The presents are already under the tree before Christmas XD 3. When I wake up in the night, it's snowing. I watched the snow then it stopped, woke up in the morning and if Santa came through my house door there were no footprints in the snow (unless he's like Jesus or something). 4. How the hell can 9 reindeers pull a fat dude, a sleigh and a sack full of presents for the whole world? And how the hell does Santa fit all those bikes in his sack? 5. ...There isn't a present under my tree that says "From Santa". 6. I think the "elves" wouldn't like working all year round in the freezing north pole, hell they probably don't get paid. ...Haha, I only had time to believe in Santa for a few years, see I was cunning and smart (not really, just lucky and a non-believer) and found out that Santa didn't come to my house, open the door, sneak around like a prevert (lol, just joking... well... who the hell sneaks around your house at night besides your dad looking for the hidden beer?), eat the cookies and milk, leave the presents then fly off into the night sky to give the rest of the 2 billion children their presents in one nights work then goes back to his house in the north pole with heating, I hope.
I don't think anything can take away the fun of believing in Santa. Yes I had suspicions too, but I'm not going to lie, I believed in him until the 5th grade. How I found out? well it wasn't that hard considering I had to wrap presents and make treats for the kindgardeners and say they were from "Elf helpers" and knew the Santa that came to school was fake since he was my dad. lol. I also started to notice that the presents entitled "From Santa" were in my mom's handwriting. My scientific question is how can he be pixie size when hes got to eat all that cookies and milk? He'd have to have ALOT of stomaches or an infinite appetite. Yeah, thats it! It's all the work of magic ;) screw scientific talk.
11. Do you mean you want Recommendations? If you like Inu Yasha, I could maybe suggest some types you might like. Slayers is a long series like Inu Yasha, maybe not as long, but with three season and acouple movies that you could look into if you want. Its mostly Medieval/Comedy/Fantasy genre and I've personally enjoyed it. *I'll post more later*
12. I don't know why but I tend to re-watch the animes Marmalade Boy, Magic Knight Rayearth and Hana Yori Dango. I like the older anime types for some reason. Hana Yori Dango I can't seem to get enough of, its like it changes my view everytime I watch it. The first time I saw the anime, I thought poor Tsukushi going through all that trouble, and how much I hated Rui for what he did (not stating cause of spoilers) but the second time I watched it almost gave me like a different impression. I started liking Rui alot more, (still love Doumyoji the best you know) and starting seeing Tsukushi as a brat. Everytime I see it seems like I have a new opinion. Its wierd isn't it? but I understand what you mean. Revolutionary Girl Utena was a hard anime for me to grasp, its very different, although i liked it, its too ...um...depressing for me to watch again.
13.
That is one of the most stupid things I have ever heard. There are hundreds of cases every year where women are raped and not killed, men who rape are not necessarily murders they are just sick, I think you should edit that out of your post. .
I was about to say, if someone didn't comment on that, I would. Thats probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard too, obviously you don't get out much. Whats sickening is Rape is more common then you think. I've (sadly) known many girls from the ages 13-16 have been raped and have to live through it. (most too scared to admit it to people) I'm going to have to say I agree with an abortion. I also knew a girl in highschool that had an abortion and two who had their children, if your not ready to have a child, and you can't handle the responsibility why bring a child into this life if its going to live on in missery? If your that young, its very hard for most to accept responsibility. Most likely this child would be given up for adoption and then what? what if he/she doesnt find a nice and comfy home? Would if everyone who got pregnant had their child and gave it up for adoption? there'd be triple the amount of kids in orphanages who have no parents and no one to care about them. So it kills me when people say "Save a life" but when you look at it isnt putting a child into an instute like that really helping them any more? do you go and visit those children? No you don't. They get to suffer, yes they live, but they suffer don't they? So all this so that they can be not cared about. Technically an abortion isn't killing unless its past two months, then it is murder. Before that its just a fetus. Anyways that is just my opinion.
14.
Instead of making it the way they tell you on the pack with hot water, I use hot milk. It tastes ALOT better. I also add a little bit of a chocolate bar, so that it actually tastes like chocolate. Not just some water with powered-chocolate mix. Yuck!
Actually I do the same exact thing lol thats how my grandma has always made it. I put real hot milk and add in a few milk chocolate bars, it tastes so good that you literally feel warm in minutes. Its the best.
15. For now I've been kind of undecided about it, I think the crime he comitted killing his own wife and son that wasn't even born yet (not to mention the affair) is probably the most horrible crime you could commit. How can you say theres worse crimes then this? I think letting him die would be an easy release for him, if it were me, dieing wouldn't be a big deal, if you spent enternity in a high-upstate prison for the rest of your life, to me that would be hell. I think he should spend the rest of his life in prison and suffer like everyone else has too. Not get injected with a needle and have an easy death.
16. Although I'm sure this post will be deleted on lack of concept and intelligent topic...If you want to check out any websites I suggest looking under my signature. Those are the ones where you may find me at.
17. Hmm..all good ideas. I'm going to have to say that I have alot of Dream Jobs. I do know that I want to be filthy rich (Gucci style baby!) or atleast semi-wealthy. Want to hear my career plan to be rich? great! First off I'll start with the ever popular writing a fantasy novel, possibly a three or four book series. By then it will become as popular as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, making people interesting in making a movie. Here's the catch, I will also make the screenwriting for the movie and play the main role myself (muhaha) that way I can get more publicity. Then when I win my oscar for best screenwriter and actress I will get more publized. Meanwhile doing appearances on shows and other movies, I will also be available for screenwriting. Not to mention maybe I'll add on my own reality show? Try some modeling. I'm up for anything that pays well actually. I like ChibiHorseWoman's idea, that could ring in alot of dough........ .... Except there is a flaw in my plan........I'm not the best writer XD
18. I have nothing wrong with homosexuality. I have many friends who are Bisexual and it has not bothered me a bit. As far as your parents go, I think you should give it time. If you told them recently about your situation they might just be in a state of shock, I'm sure they love you and even if they disagree with it they will learn to accept or work around it. If not, then I don't know what else to tell you. This happens alot, especially if your folks are religious (not discing any christians or anything out there just saying most are against it) but I would suggest that as time goes on it can't get any worse. As long as your honest with yourself and your parents everything should work out for the better. Thats as much advice as I can give you, I wish you luck :( its very hard to tell what your parents are like, its all on who they are.
19. OB is probably the third forum that I check. I usually come here when I want to discuss or debate important (and sometimes silly) issues. The Otaku Lounge here is really layed back, this and the Anime Forum would have to be my favorite. Why i like it here? its less crowded and theres intelligent people (less U Rox LOL dat 2 is my favrite) which can get on my nerves. Everyone here has an opinion plus the layout drew me to these boards :) I like that i can express myself and talk about interesting topics besides "whats your favorite color?". Sadly I don't know many of the people here themselves, and most the people I know (or atleast have posted with for the most time being) are on (Animeonline.net (which has sadly been going slow lately) AnimeTalk.org and Minitokyo.net) those three forums. Until then this will always be last but it is still a great forum. Maybe I will join some RPGS in the future. I'll think on it :) Lately I've been too busy with WOW to post, i'll try and keep up.
20.
Wow I'm surprised you were able to create a semi-intelligent thread. *applauds* I really cannot stand the Fushigi Yuugi English dubbing. I bought the box set of it about a year ago and watched the Japanese version with sub-titles, all the while not realizing how bad the dub was. So one day I switched it over in the middle of an episode and was horrified with some of the voices. Miaka's is incredibly annoying.... I used to be obsessed with InuYasha when it first started airing in the US about 2 years ago. At that time I believed that the dubbing was pretty good.... Then when I bought the first volume on DVD, I noticed how much better the Japanese voice actors were. Kagome's English actor is very fake and unbelievable in her acting. InuYasha's voice is also pretty annoying with the way they make him talk in slang sometimes. Yamaguchi Kappei does a VERY good representation of a half human, half dog demon whereas Richard Cox just sucks at it. I have since gotten over InuYasha because I've realized how repetetive and mediocre it is. Furi Kuri has an excellent English dub. Many reviews I have read on it say that it's dub is better than the original Japanese track. I don't know if I agree with this, but I think I prefer the Japanese track for this as well. I do really like Naota's English voice actor since I don't believe I've heard him in any other series before unlike many of the recycled VAs we know of today. Haruko's voice was also done very well because she sounds damn close to the seiyuu who voiced her originally. That was a good move. I know that everyone's gonna say this because it's probably the most popular anime among Americans (who aren't 8), but Cowboy Bebop was done well also. I've never actually heard the original Japanese track for Cowboy Bebop so I can't truly gauge how good it is, but it sounds good enough for me. Evagelion wasn't that great. All of the voice actors sounded like they had never had any kind of training in that line of work. They were very fake sounding, especially Shinji, Asuka, and Kensuke. Yeah. I'll post more if I think of any others/feel like it.
Owch that was a bit harsh -.-;; heh. Anyways..I have to admit I did the same thing lol I changed from Japanese Fushigi Yuugi to the dubbed version to see what it sounded like. I thought my ears we're going to explode, Miaka's voice is horrible. As far as the Inu Yasha dub goes, I dont think its as bad as Sailor Moon's voice was. I liked the old person who dubbed the first "Serena" but I remember they switched, remember when SuperS season started and they got someone extremely horrible at it. It got better later but still *shivers* The only dubs that I really enjoy are Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. I love Faye's voice in Cowboy Bebop...and I really love Vash's laugh in Trigun. He did a really good job. I think Trigun was done really well also. The thing with Fushigi Yuugi is they changed the words around so much that it didnt really quite make sense to me why they did that. Its almost like changing the whole conversation. Ugh so frustrating >.
21. Its funny cause I've only seen the dubbed version where Zoicite is a female. They dont allow gay people especially back then in the dubs -.- but I remember I use to like Nephlite, even with his mullet (ack what the heck we're people thinking?) and how he somewhat fell in love with molly...and she found out about him being evil but didnt care ^^ cheesy but it was still a nice touch. How she had her memories erased kind of ruined it, but yeah. There seems to be a theme with the different groups. (Zoicite, Nephlite etc.) (Fisheye, Tigereye etc.) that begans to create a pattern that annoys me. As far as live shows go Vash-san....O.o;;; I don't even want to know the horror.
22. I don't really label or classify my clothing style by anything. My friends are all different, actually one time I hung out with two groups at once, one more hiphop the other punk. It gets tough having friends that are so different, wish people would look past appearances and see how much alike they really are (seriously they act alike and they just dont know it yet) I can go into stores like Hot Topic and then go to a surfer store like Pacsun or even Old Navy. Really it doesn't really matter. I guess I dress Preppy? whatever that means..but i take it as a compliment. Im not "preppy" since i dont fit into whatever term thats suppose to be, Im just myself and once people who me they seem to forget stereotypes. I like to dress HipHop though, I tend to lean towards that and seem to be getting into it more and more. I guess I get that from my sister, we all have our styles. I use to dress punk. I like to change, improvise, and now Im just kinda at my own style. Everyone says I wear unusual and different clothes so I could say I look good and doing it my own way :)
23.
In all fairness, Christianity is the only religion people get really upset about. Also in all fairness, it is California, so it's not exactly a good measurement of the rest of the country. (They haven't sunk into the ocean yet?) In a related story, the Govenator changed the title of the big tree in the town square from a "holiday" tree back to a "Christmas" tree, and said it would remain that way as long as he was Govenor. So, it's not totally a hopeless situation.
I live in California. So I find that somewhat offensive. I think the "Govenator" has been doing a pretty good job, atleast he's more honest then some other governors we've had in the past. As far as taking Christianity out of history, this could have happened to any state. Its just that people bitched about it here first. People want to make everything fair, but it is also silly when in history people back then we're mostly all christians in the U.S. Religion is a part of history, history is a part of religion, its as if they cant go without eachother. People back then were very religious, how could you teach history otherwise? I think they will limit what they will teach, but i think people are too tight-lipped now for their own good. People are not going to get the truth they deserve.
24. I tend to love villans ^^ especially really evil ones. They are the most interesting characters to me. I dont think Kagura is all that bad. Worst Male Villan : Definately have to agree with ChibiHorseWoman, but then I got to thinking. Since hes the only villan i really despised, that makes him an awesome villan right? the mullet, the hair, the difference between them, and all his tricks. Who annoys me even more then him? Naraku from Inu Yasha. Chasing this stupid guy all over, he hardly ever fights for himself and has to have his minions do his dirty work. Now if it was me, I would just fight head-on. But yeah. Worst Female Villan : Coming Up with this one soon....
25. Old Woman : *sniff* What's that smell? it can't be my home-made hamburgers. Woman in Tub : Funny, I didn't know this jacuzzi's bubbles were scented did you?.... Man : ...... *silence*........
