1. What no Golden Compass thread? I take it no one has read Phillip Pullman books! I loved his books especially the Dark Material series however I didn't think the movie portrayed the book very well. It looked like the Narnia series all over again but they did it half-*****. I was pretty dissapointed especially when
they left out the ending, where her father kills her friends, little Arthur or whats his name after rescuing him
The only part that played true was when
the polar bear is fighting the king and rips off his jaw
and they made it as PG as possible. I understand kids are going to watch this, but what happens when they get into the third book and make that a movie? There is a whole religious problem thats going to arise especially if I remember
that they have to kill god to set everyone free in the Amber Spyglass from what I remember
. Has anyone read the series? And do you think they will edit out most of everything since the last book could be considered controversial?
2. WOW has been the main MMO, for acouple years now, however recent news has shown that a lot of new MMO's are coming out in 2008. Age of Conan a mature fantasy-style MMO, Aion an angel themed, and Warhammer which contradicts a lot of the aspects that made WOW so popular. My question is what game are you playing right now? And are you considering any of the above options? What MMO are you most looking forward too? And do you know of any special MMO that is coming out? I would love to have another OB guild or see more interaction between members in online gamelpay such as Kabuki Troupe was in Guild Wars. Personally I'm planning on getting AOC until Warhammer comes out. I would like to try both. Although Aion, looks pretty interesting.
3. Most people have felt betrayal at one point whether it be by someone you love, a friend, or even relatives atleast once in their lifetime. However...have you ever felt so betrayed that you have yet to forgive that person? Have you ever been cheated on by your partner? How did you deal with it? Did you forgive that person or did you move on with your life? If you moved on, how did you get over it? I heard a quote from a friend that says "It is harder on the human SOUL to be cheated on then to get over a death". Years ago, I probably would have said this quote was ridiculous and stupid. However in this past year, I'm starting to believe it might have some truth to it. I was discussing some things with some friends at work about cheating and many dont believe that cheating on a spouse is wrong. That everyone cheats and its a part of human nature to explore. What is your opinion? And what are your thoughts on cheating? Do you think someone can truely change their cheating ways or is it part of who they are? Have YOU ever cheated and how did you deal with it? How do you react to someone who you know is cheating? Do you know many people who cheat on their spouse? Is there a big difference on cheating on your wife/husband then on your bf/gf? I read statistics that a lot more women are cheating now on their husbands then ever before. However most people seem to think that because someone is a "man" that is more exceptable however for them to cheat. Which leads me to ask, IS it harder on a girl to cheat in society then a man? What do you think? Share your thoughts.
4. I like late night snacks such as butter kettle corn popcorn, black cherry vanilla ice cream, nachos, and club crackers........ and adorable fluffy kittens....yes you heard me.
5.
I work in a chain of supermarket stores (Albertsons) and I think that Wal-Mart isn't exactly the land of roses and sweet honeydew as people would like to think of it as. Even as a consumer, I am compelled to spend my money elsewhere because of the things I've experienced in Wal-Mart. It may just be where I live but I find the employees at Wal-Mart to be: A) Not knowledgeable of their store B) Lacking Good Customer Service C) Lacking Basic Human Interaction Skills Working at a place that requires good customer service from all of its employees and takes customer service very seriously, I think that this kind of service should be provided by every store. I guess Wal-Mart assumes that people will shop there regardless of how bad customer service gets, because of low prices. Lemme be the first to say I will shop at a more expensive store if I can be met with great customer service. I can see why some people are hesitant to work at Wal-Mart as well. The part-timers there get less than 40 hours and are constantly competing with several other people to earn a decent wage. They work a VERY inflexible schedule, which doesn't allow for family emergencies or deviations in the schedule due to school or other circumstances. You work when you're supposed to work, or you will be replaced. This is just one horror story I've heard from a co-worker of mine who used to work at Wal-Mart. As far as Wal-Mart being bad for local buisness, I think that is more of the consumers fault than Wal-Mart. It's simple logic. "Why would I want to pay almost 2-3 dollars more for groceries when I can buy more of it or get it cheaper at Wal-Mart?" If the customer sees a better buy, they are most likely gonna go for it. You'll still have a few die hards who will attend the local stores, but for the most part, people will migrate towards the better buy, because it saves them money in the long run. So Wal-Mart ruining buisnesses seems like a little man's view of the story. Blame the consumers, not the company.
Ahem...I think Walmart employees get a really bad rap. I've worked for BelAir, considered a higher end grocery store with some expensive prices and they were incredibly rude and mean to me. Ironically I was let go, because I couldn't get a long with my manager (which for the things he said to me...I COULD sue for harassment but im not going there) and I got a seasonal job at Walmart to make ends meat seeing as how I'm on my own and in college. At first I was very skeptical, cause of all the stupid "horror" stories about walmart, it honestly was like any other retail job I've had in the past. Kohls. Home Depot. It's all the same. However I have to admit, Walmart gave me LOTS of hours part time, and I actually had to request LESS then what they gave me so thats not how it is. If you haven't worked at Walmart, then don't believe any rumors. And actually I think I was a very good employee seeing as how I knew where everything was, and most of the managers knew about everything. They also worked around my time schedule for school and were very laid-back nice people. Most people wouldn't think that Walmart would also pay you based on experience, I had 1-2 years worth so they raised my pay based on that. Most people wouldn't think a cashier would make 10 to 12 an hour at Walmart either but I know plenty who got hired with that wage and thats a whole lot better then working in clothing retail (which in sacramento is always min wage). So my experience with working at Walmart has been fairly good even though I didn't keep the job. It wasn't as bad as people thought. As a consumer? Heck yes I'm going to buy that grape juice at Walmart. Why? Prices. I'm poor, this is what I can afford, why spend $100 on that make up case when you can get it for $20 at Walmart? Honestly, for the people around here most cant even afford that. However you gotta love savemart... EDIT: Yes John. You are right on the money.
6.
Do yourself a favor and never so much as think those words again unless they are actually true. I swear, I see more perfectly fine-looking girls say they look fat....
I never said I had fat arms, just that it looked that way in the picture. I thought it was kind of funny. Although I'm much skinnier then I am in that picture anyhow, not that that matters. I've never been very concious about my weight.
7.
It's good to see you around again, I wondered what happened to you. ;)
Hehe. Yes I remember you! I'm sad not to see White around, especially Dragon Warrior. I also noticed Retribution is gone...that was probably the biggest shock to me since he was so artistic and active here. A lot has changed. Sadly. Ah well.
8. Wow I was so going to post a new thread like this! Good thing I looked...I'll just add some new pictures....enjoy! Mwah! 9. I haven't ever really met anyone from any sort of social website besides Myspace. Only two people from myspace that I met through mutual friends, either friend's of my friends or whatever and lived in the same town. I've made acouple of friends that live close or in the same state through online games but I doubt I will ever MEET them in real life. I only met the two people through myspace because we had talked over the phone for months and they knew people I knew. However if your going to meet someone from online or off of websites like meetup (which seem really not my thing) then make sure you do it in a public place to be safe. You never know what kind of pyscho someone could be.... Yes..we're looking at you Desbreko...
10. I would like to be cremated and spread somewhere like the ocean but I guess most people prefer to be stuck in the ground in coffins. Yuck. I'd probably have something funny...like these ones.
11. I no longer play WOW so you might want to take me off. Just a notice.
12. Actually I just got off a long hiatus, I've been gone for about..what 6 months? Wow. I can't believe its been that long. Well I didn't have the internet, I moved to a city, and I've been busy with college so I guess I'm doing pretty well for myself. Now that I have more time on my hands, I sort of ventured back. So yea, those that remember me as Peanut or Pumpkin, hello again. Glad to see some of the same people around on the mod team. I even see some members that were new around from when I was a moderator are now a mod. So ya, its interesting to see the major changes... Question though...what did happen to White? I must be filled in.
13. It's been a while since I've been here but I figure why not get a new set!? I'm switching back to my old name Pumpkin (which most people here usually know me by) and I'd like a new set please. I'd like it to be on a video game either on Aion Online or Warhammer. If that's too difficult to find, then please send me a PM. I'd love you greately if you could do me this favor, and its good to be back. Adios, Pumpkin Wheres the love? *cry*
14. Everyone has gone through a break up once in your life. Okay, so there are rarely those people who marry their highschool sweethearts. But for most, we all remember the small and big ones in our lives. I didn't really want to make this an advice thread (although advice is always welcome hint hint) but I've been going through one recently. I've been with the same guy for 2 years and he broke up with me although at the time it felt mutual. However, things just didnt just end there, he continued to tell me he cared about me however his actions say differently. Not only that, but told me when he was moving near me he wanted to start dating again etc. Best believe I have become a little fed up with this story, especially since he grew so close to my family and he recently upset my own grandmother. Ahem, Anyhow... Most guys do NOT need closure. For guys who do not know what closure means, its a definate anwser or conclusion. " No I DO not want to be friends. Partners. Anything " or " Yes. I would like things to work out. This is how we can do that..." instead it seems that people (for I do realize women have done it too) drag things on. I guess on Oprah, there was a show actually on the fact that 50% of women in relationships or so dont get closure. Sad. If anything, this taught me that break ups and relationships can be very complicated. For example, you can love someone and not want to be with them because your miserable. I don't think I could have believed that possible. I guess the point of this thread is simply, why can't someone tell the truth and give closure? Especially if theres no benefit in it for you. Besides just being a coward. Also, do you have any bad break up tales? Did you ever need closure from a relationship? A tale of blood and gory revenge? Please do tell.
15.
I think you and me will be working together in the future in that case. lol. Of course you can have the MMOs, but there's no way i'm letting you take all the RPGs. ;) But clearly, I am a fan of this idea as well. Movies, games, maybe even books if we have enough dedicated booknuts here (clearly, this is coming from a less than dedicated non-book nut). Personally, I would spend a lot of time on game re/pre viewing, some animes if they catch my attention, and perhaps the latest and greatest in the arena.
Aha, I'm definately doing MMO's! No one can beat me on that one, bwhaha. Infact, there are many new mmos coming out over the summer. As for RPGS and console related games, I'm probably not the best at it so having BK to help with that would be nice. Also, I love the fact about book reviews. That would fit nicely in the Anthology category. I'm a big book nut although I can't say I've read anything lately due to being busy, but I'd still love to do it. Hope you post up all the categories and ideas up soon, I can't wait to try out!
16.
(See this is why schools in America should start teaching second languages in elementary school).[/color']
I actually was taught spanish in elementary school and knew quite a lot. Learned it since I was 4 up until junior year in Highschool and forgot it all in a year. Think thats impossible? Well if you dont practice or keep using it, you forget it. I learned the hard way. I can still remember a few sentences and the basics such as yo soy somos and some of the verbs but thats about it. I use to work at Kohls about a year ago on the sales floor, when I had to walk around and ask people if they wanted a free make over for the make up department. When I asked this woman or man, I couldnt really tell at the time, got all upset and told me about how she modeled in Paris as a petite model (this he-she was not petite in any sense) and that she could teach me a thing or two about fashion and make up. I just grinned and walked away. Turns out one of my co-workers knew "her" from her son, who also is a transvestite. The whole time he-she was talking about her modeling career and her husband. It was probably the strangest encounter I can remember. My most recent job was working at the Home Depot. Let me tell you, my coworkers there are a crazy bunch. We would have 'home depot parties' as our meetings, which involved throwing things to dunk our store manager into a tank, a scavenger hunt after store hours, hitting eachother with pillows, awards, jepordy, and other events. I've never seen a store do something like that before, or know everyone in the store. I don't know if you would call that strange though, more like amusing. I love hearing about were everyone else's jobs are for some reason. Maybe that is because I'm "unemployed" now. Looking for an interesting place to work. Suggestions anyone?
17.
1. How are you feeling right now? 2. What's going on in your life right now? what's 'driving you' I might say.
Alright I know half the people here dont want to hear my sob story but I'm bored so bare with me... 1. Frustrated. Confused. Heartbroken. Hot. (and I mean that literally, but I am pretty cute too >;] ) 2. My boyfriend and I were suppose to move in together to Sacramento but we broke up like two weeks before. So I moved in with my sister at Modesto, ane well here I am! Trying to settle into my new life, we're "trying to work things out" apparently, and now with no job and not going to school at the moment, I'm completely bored! Not to mention the hospital bills I still have to pay for my past surgery ( I feel sorry for Panda ;( I feel your pain now! ) and got some bit of disability money even though they made me work too soon. Oh well, I'm just getting my life settled. Boys + Relationships = You suck. That's all.
18. I definately think SunfallE has a great suggestion. A team of writers for each category would make things less stressful about making a deadline. I'd also recommend maybe doing reviews for movies, games, etc. I wouldn't mind writing for particular games that are coming out either giving information about them and also critiquing since that is always fun. For movies, I would suggest Dragon Warrior. I remember seeing a thread where he wrote about movies that came out and an opinion on it, and I think he pulled it off very well. I would really like to see this newspaper idea come through this time and would love to help out if I can. Hopefully it will even bring the Hardwired section into light for once instead of just the lounge. You should make a sign up list in which people wanting to volunteer could maybe send in a sample article for their writing ability. That way its fair and based off your abilities. As for graphics, dont ask me! I think I've seen White around here somewhere.....Hrm...
19. My choice would definately have to be Summer/Winter. Wierd combination, but I love it when its really cold, and love it when it's hot. When it's hot, there is nothing better then going to a neighbor or friend's house to go swimming or going out to the lake and diving off of a boat. I'm a cancer (water sign), so what do you expect? Also, I love sipping hot chocolate and also can love the rain (when it's not TOO bad). The only bad part about winter, is when it does ran, your hair gets all dried out and frizzy. Same for summer is that, your hair seems to feel heavy if you have longer hair, and it looks a bit too shiny. Not pleasant. But oh well. I'm not too fond of Spring or Autumn because my alergies seem to start acting up, and ironically in Spring I usually get sick unlike in winter when most people do. I also did like Easter, so that's the only part that I look forward too in Spring.
20.
Firstly, and most importantly, is doors. If I am in a room with a door, said door must be closed. At first this was more a personal preference, but now it's gotten to the point where idf a door is open, I start freaking out on whoever's near it to close it, or if I'm alone, getting up and closing it. At this point, when people enter a room or begin leaving a room, I find myself calling out 'close the door!' without even thinking. It's mildly frightening.
I have the same thing going on with me as well. Does that mean I have OCD? I also have a thing about windows that even my mother use to comment was wierd. I can't leave it open at night, its been like that since I was a kid. Don't know if I was scared a robber or cat was going to come flying through there, but it just bugs me. Also, I must have my fan on, but that is because it is always hot in my room no matter what I do. Ah, well. That's about it. Besides the fact that I hate spiders. And yes, this does remind me of the "What Grinds Your Gears" thread.
21. I want a simple huge banner of the title "Apocalypse of the Stars" for an RPG that I'm starting soon. I would like this image here or a star/space-themed banner such as like this image. Also another one with a star theme titled "Revelation of the Stars " and "Armageddon of the Stars". Don't ask =) But it does have its purpose! This will be important and all credit will be given to the person who will help me with this! Thank you. I appreciate it very much for those that try to help me get what I'm looking for.
22.
I'll give it a go Peanut, but I can't access the images at the moment. Something's wrong with Photobucket, so you'll have to wait for a bit. Sorry. ^^; Btw, how are you designing your site? CSS or tables? EDIT: What feel are you looking for Peanut?
Great! Umm..I haven't decided yet on CSS or what not. Honestly, I'm still reading some guides that people have given me, and on the guildportal guides. Is the image still not working? Or do you need me to provide a new link? So far I like when people use CSS, but I'm not sure how to do it. I'm such a newb at it all.
23. I first heard about this quite a while ago, it wasn't until I actually read up on it on the website that I actually found it quite interesting. Has anyone so far played closed beta? And what are your thoughts? Personally, I can see myself playing a french bucaneer/trader simply because I know pirates will be the more popular character. Also it fits with the role of a rogue, which is usually what I go for. I think it will be fun however to fight pirates, and take over ports. One of the main things, I wished that wow implimented was player owned houses or boats, atleast here it states you will be given ships. And later, hopefully, a house. So...what are your thoughts gamers?
24. Growing up, people I knew lost their virginity at about 13-16 range. If you were 16, and a virgin, you were considered pretty old. Now however, people think it makes you more 'desirable' to be a virgin. However, I kept my virginity until after highschool strictly because if I did get pregnant, and wanted to keep it atleast I'd have my diploma and a means to move out on my own. Being pregnant when young is not a fun thing, as I've seen with my own eyes, and while protection is there, I didn't want to take any chances. Yes, I'm not a virgin *gasp* So I guess that makes me slutty right? Not. I do feel sex should be shared with someone special, but not everyone is going to have that opinion. This doesn't mean having sex at 13 makes you bad either, heck, everyone does it when it's the right time. Being a virgin or not a virgin does not make you better or worse then anyone else. I use to be told that if I wasn't a virgin, guy's wouldn't like you and would think your easy. That is not true obviously. There are a lot of stigmas about virginity, and no one should feel bad about the time you decide to 'do the deed'. So this girl had an intimate moment with her boyfriend? Have you thought about maybe her feelings as well? If your worried, exploding at this girl would definately have caused the backlash. It's embarrasing being caught in a situation but to tell her brother and then you two attack her is even more so. Some people are just more sexually active then others, let's face it. Next time, tone it down a bit. In the end, you can't change someone's decision, and I agree with Aarayanna when I say, have you asked her if she's using protection? Just explaining maybe that you were worried and not telling her it's wrong to do, might be a better response next time.
25. First off its not a sig/banner set for OB, so you can take a breather. I need someone to make me a large banner for my World of Warcraft Guildportal site. Since I'm retarded when it comes to graphics, I really need someone experienced to help me out. Here is an example, Here and Here. It shows that it doesn't HAVE to be extravigant, honestly I don't mind something simple but it must look professional. I would like this image here to be used, it does not have to be the background, have fun with it as long as it is somewhere shown in the banner. I would also like the words in big bold letters "Four Winds Tribe" and below it "Moon Guard Server". Remember to look at the examples, and try and keep the banner somewhere around that range. Also, I need a few little buttons. Ones that say Bank, Forums, Rules & Ranks, Home, Libray, & Charter. How they look should be determined by you, it could be simple like this even. That's pretty much it, I don't know what I can give back in return except for your name will be at the bottom of the website with credit given back to you. I also have some anime I would be willing to give to whoever helped me, that and you'll be famous [Okay so not really] but I would very much appreciate this help! For all those who think they cannot do it, just give it a try. You never know, it may be what I'm looking for.
