1. Just so people know, I convert any pieces submitted as PNG to either JPG or GIF depending on which is more suited to the content.
2. Fair enough. Would you be willing to e-mail it to me rather than posting it publicly? I'd really like to see if I can replicate the problem myself. [strike]For everyone else, if the colors along the edge between #014 and #015 match up for you, could you please post or PM me what browser you're using, what the gfx.color_management.mode option in about:config is set to if you're using Firefox, what model of monitor you're using, and what (if any) ICC profile you're using with it?[/strike]
3. Because you shouldn't use color management for graphics being displayed on the web. Not all browsers support color management and even the ones that do can be iffy about how well it's handled. Or if you do have it enabled, at least make sure it's set to sRGB. If it's set to Wide Gamut RGB or something, that'll screw with the colors for other people. And the piece still doesn't match up for me, so there's apparently a more fundamental problem here. Can you try opening the .psd file in IrfanView or something else that can read it and save a JPG version with it instead of Photoshop? Also, if it isn't too big, could you attach the .psd to a post for me to take a look at? Edit: I just updated the worm with pieces 14-16, using Sara's fixed piece.
4. So you're telling me that when you use the dropper on the right edge of Sara's piece and the left edge of yours, Photoshop gives you the same RGB value for both? Another few things for people to check: Make sure that Image > Mode is set to RGB Color. Also, go to Image > Mode > Assign Profile and make sure it's set to Don't Color Manage This Document. And when saving the piece, make sure the ICC Profile box is unchecked.
5. Well, you're either doing something wrong or your installation of Photoshop is screwed up. Because the right edge of Sara's piece and the left edge of yours do not have anywhere close to the same RGB value.
6. I'm still guessing it has to do with improper color calibration or browsers doing color correction on images when they shouldn't be. Basically, don't just trust your eyes when matching colors and never, ever use the print screen key to copy/paste the previous piece for comparing. Always directly open both finished pieces in Photoshop or whatever and use the dropper to make sure they've got the same RGB value. The new one matches up with #013 except for a little area at the bottom where it looks like the gradient didn't get updated. But that's not very noticeable. Citric's #015 is still much, much lighter than it should be, though.
7. I sent you a PM about how to change the link styles. Did you not get it?
8. I would recommend hunting down the GCN version of Skies of Arcadia rather than the Dreamcast version. From what I've heard, the Dreamcast version has OVER 9000 random battles. The GCN version got rebalanced to have less frequent battles and it still had quite a lot.
9. I worked a little CSS magic to make link styles in posts editable without affecting the rest of the site. You can see the results with the Caramelldansen skin. The other skins haven't been changed yet since I don't know what James wants to use for them.
10. Putting in anchors at each piece should be easy enough. I'll look into it. Also, you've got a color mismatch in #014, Sara. The brown edge of it is #DBCEAE while the edge of #013 is #D1C4A4. Edit: I added anchors. You can now click on the number above a piece to get the URL for it. Also, the anchor names match the piece numbers so if you wanted to link to piece #018 in the 2007 worm, for example, you could just put that on the end of the URL like so: http://www.otakuboards.com/graphicworm/2007.html#018 And before anyone asks, no, there isn't a way to make it center the piece on the screen. Not unless someone knows some JavaScript that can do it. omg double post merge: We've got a bit of a problem, guys...
11. In terms of fansubbing and scanlation, it mostly depends on how fast you can get your source to work from, how many people you've got to work simultaneously on different tasks, and how well their schedules line up with when the source is available. And then there are some series that just take way more work than most others, like Zetsubou Sensei as Gome mentioned. So how long it takes to actually release stuff can vary wildly depending on the group and series. I can't say for sure which takes more time, since I've never been involved in translating manga, but I doubt it takes longer to scanlate a chapter of manga than it does to fansub an episode of anime. Manga requires more typesetting than most anime, sure, but manga doesn't require video encoding or subtitle timing.
12. Could you download the programs with another computer and put them on a flash drive or burn them to a CD or something to get them onto your laptop? Usually you can also download the latest definition files separately, along with the installers, so you won't have to download them after it's installed. If you can't do anything like that, it may be time to either reformat and reinstall Windows or else take it in and have the store look at it. There's not much you can do without being able to get anti-virus and spyware removal software onto it.
13. I just noticed there's a one pixel line along the left edge in Citric's #008, in the dark blue section on the bottom, that's way darker than the rest. (It's almost completely black.) Was that intentional? It looks kind of like edge noise from a resize or sharpen filter or something.
14.
On my moniter, the edge of Delta's piece is #006e2a, while jiggyness's is #005d24.
Are you saving the pieces and opening them in Photoshop or some other image editing program to sample the colors, or are you taking a screen shot of what your browser is displaying? I get color values by opening the pieces in Photoshop, and I also tend to double check in IrfanView, because that will get the colors actually encoded in the image, not whatever the browser happens to display them as. (Which can be wrong for various reasons.)
I can't see it myself, really. Is it really obvious/bothersome to anyone? Because I would have no idea how useful it is the fix anything right now. :(
We can't fix anything until we know what the actual problem is. If the colors were just changed, it would match up for them but not for us anymore. Also, for anyone using Firefox 3.5, please make sure you've opened up about:config and tried setting the gfx.color_management.mode option to 0 and seeing if that makes a difference. (Or try setting it to 1 if it's already 0.)
15. The green varies a tiny bit along the edge of jigglyness's piece (probably not enough to be visible), but most of it is #005E20, which is the same as Delta's piece. And they match up fine for me in both Photoshop and Firefox. So it's most likely a problem with your monitor and/or browser. And yeah, the brown along the edges of jigglyness's and Citric's pieces doesn't quite match up at the top and bottom but it's not very noticeable. Edit: The only clue I can find about why this is happening is that Delta's piece doesn't contain EXIF info while jigglyness's does. But I don't think that should matter.
16. Oh, right, I forgot to update the info page. That's done now.
17. Yays, the 2010 worm page is up. If you don't see it at first, push Ctrl+F5 to load the new version.
18. Posted in rough order of interest... Hidamari Sketch x Hoshimittsu Oh hay, it's another season of that show I've been plugging to death lately. Seriously, why haven't you watched it yet? Hanamaru Youchien This show just looks like it'll be a lot of fun and full of crazy kindergarten antics. Not really much else to say. Dance in the Vampire Bund Normally I'm not big on vampire stories but hey, it's SHAFT. And Bakemonogatari also ended up being one of my favorites of its season despite my lack of interest before watching it. The vampire being a loli also helps. Katanagatari Like I mentioned above, I really liked Bakemonogatari so I'm definitely checking this one out as well. The art style grows on me each time I see more of it. Sora no Woto I've seen the first episode of this and it looks like it'll be enjoyable. Everyone seems to be bashing it over its similarities to K-ON – and there are a number of them, to be fair – but it looks like it'll be more than just a cookie-cutter knockoff. Also, I'm really liking the soundtrack; while writing this post I've had the OP theme playing in the background. Ookami Kakushi I don't know much about this beyond the plot summary on MAL, but that along with some of the people involved in the series is enough for me to at least check it out. Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu My stupid, mindless fun for the season.
19. Did you try what I posted before?
20. Uh... Are you sure you didn't just have episodes that were soft-subbed and were using a player without a subtitle renderer? (Like WMP by itself.) OPs and EDs tend to be hard-subbed into the video, in which case they don't require a subtitle renderer.
21. Should be easy enough to add, same as we did for theO and myO user names in profiles. I'll look into it.
22. Download Spybot and Avira AntiVir. Update both of them so you have the latest definition files. Boot into safe mode. Run scans with them (not at the same time). With any luck, that will clean out your system.
23. Did you try uninstalling the Flash plugin and installing the latest version from Adobe's site? Most of the problems I've experienced and heard of with Flash were from having an old version installed.
24. Okay, so I've gone ahead and uploaded Citric's latest piece. You guys can continue off it as is if you like, and if Citric wants to adjust it later I can just swap the new version in.
is it my screen or the pieces #067 and #068 dont match?
Now that I check the RGB values, yeah, they are a bit off. #067 mainly uses solid black for its edge and #068 uses a very dark blue. I should note that my monitor is an old CRT that doesn't do so great with black levels anymore, so I don't notice mismatches in dark areas nearly as easy as in bright ones. If anyone else catches stuff like that, feel free to mention it since the person who made the piece may want to fix it. But I'm planning on getting a new, high quality LCD monitor soon, which should help for this sort of thing.
I use safari and on my screen, A LOT of the colors are off. I'm not sure if its my monitor or just the browser. Anyone else have that problem??
I've never heard of that problem before, but I've never used Safari much. Are the colors only off in Safari or is it the same in IE and Firefox? If it's the former, it's most likely a problem with Safari; if it's the latter, it's most likely a problem with your screen. Something else you can try with Firefox 3.5 is typing about:config into the address bar, filtering to the gfx.color_management.mode option, and setting that to 0. I've heard of Firefox's color management screwing up colors on some monitors.
25. Yes, but are you using that before applying other effects and stuff to the image and then just going with whatever it ends up as, or are you also using it to make sure the colors match after saving the final version? Using the dropper at the start doesn't mean anything if the colors end up changing later in the process of creating the piece. By the way, I can also see the color difference in the image jigglyness posted, both in Firefox and Photoshop, even after the extra JPG compression lessened it. It's very noticeable in the pink area, where jigglyness's piece uses #D549AA for most of the edge and Citric's uses #DA4BA7. (I got the colors from the actual pieces, not the merged bit jigglyness posted, btw.)
