[color=#4B0082]I got myself a Steam account and the Orange Box recently. I'm loving Team Fortress 2 and would also love to play with any OB peoples who have the game. You can find my profile at [url=http://steamcommunity.com/id/desbreko][u]http://steamcommunity.com/id/desbreko[/u][/url]. Feel free to send friend invites if you've got a Steam account.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]Apparently I'm developing a bad habit of forgetting to turn off my Wii after I get done playing Rock Band 2. I put the drum set away, turn off the TV, unplug the wireless dongle – and then I just don't hit the power button, I guess. So now I have ten hours of play time logged on my message board, about eight of which were idling at the title screen. This is the second time it's happened. Also, STILL ALIVE WHERE?! The new DLC for Wii was supposed to be out by now.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]Just letting people know that I added another row in the graphic worm tables. The pages now display the piece number above each one, along with edge markers like the ones along the bottom.[/color]

[quote name='Shinmaru']There is a ton of stuff that ends up being important later in the series, as everyone will find out once the anime gets to that point. :)[/QUOTE][color=#4B0082]I definitely got this feeling from the episode, especially from the bit where [spoiler]Kyon mentioned North High to the younger Haruhi. As soon as he said that I thought, "You totally just screwed yourself."[/spoiler][/color]

[color=#4B0082]I haven't been playing much lately since I've played nearly all the content across all the campaigns to death with heroes/henchmen. Plus I got Rock Band 2 and then Team Fortress 2 to occupy most of my gaming time. But I'd still be up for doing stuff with you guys. Just harass me to sign in if you see me on theO chat or here or AIM or wherever. :catgirl: My characters are: Arik Desbreko (monk) Amelia Starfire (elementalist) Fina Silven (ranger) Eve Blackwind (necromancer) Chloe Namir (assassin) Edward Montblanc (warrior) Meilin Tsao (mesmer) Celeste Twilit (monk) Almost all but Celeste, who's a newbie monk just out of pre-searing that I mainly created just to get a Charr Bag, have beaten the three main campaigns but most still have a lot or all of Eye of the North to do.[/color]

Sides 1-2 were for Escaflowne, 3-4 for Ichigo Mashimaro, and 5-6 for Kanon. I rolled a four and a five, so there you go. Starting March 28, [b]Ichigo Mashimaro[/b] will be watched first, followed by [b]Kanon[/b]. And since Kanon is 24 episodes compared to Ichigo Mashimaro's 12, we'll be back at this in another few weeks to choose something to replace Ichigo Mashimaro when it ends.[/color] [hr]100[/hr] [color=#4B0082]Just wanted to let people know, nominations are open again for what to replace Ichigo Mashimaro with when it ends. Kanon is longer, so we'll continue with its second half, but we don't necessarily have to pick another short series to match up with it. Feel free to nominate/vote for whatever you like and I'll deal with the scheduling.[/color] [hr]100[/hr] [color=#4B0082]Just posting a reminder that we're starting [url=http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=240][u]The Vision of Escaflowne[/u][/url] next week.[/color]

[center][img]http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/5936/orangeboxs.jpg[/img][/center] [color=#4B0082]I'd been wanting to play TF2 and Portal for a long time so I had to grab a copy when a Steam weekend sale had it for only $10. Portal was as amazing as everyone has said, and I'm loving TF2 even though I'm still a newbie with a perpetually negative kill/death score.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]I'm not sure either... We can stick whatever code we want into the bb code substitution so I'd assume we could call a PHP function from that. Dunno how exactly it would work, though.[/color]
-
[color=#4B0082]The problem I ran into when making the tag was that the URL for embedding a video is different from that of viewing it normally. So, for example, you'd use http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40AfgPFKChk for viewing the video on its web page but http://www.youtube.com/v/40AfgPFKChk for embedding it. What the youtube tags do is simply take the video ID between them and stick it into the URL of the embed code's HTML ? which is the extent of what you can do with custom bb code, a straight substitution of the bb tags for a chunk of HTML. To be able to use the whole URL there'd need to be a little script that would get called to extract the video ID from the URL and then plug that into the embed HTML. It would probably be possible that way (theO uses the whole URL for YouTube embedding so there's gotta be a way) but I don't know how to write such a script.[/color]
-
[color=#4B0082]For the record, text between quote tags isn't counted towards the character limit either. There's an option for that and it's set to not count. And yeah, make sure you're not putting the entire URL between the youtube tags. It should only be the video ID. (Stuff that comes after the video ID in the URL probably won't matter, as I showed in my previous post, but you can't include anything before it.) There's an example on the [url=http://www.otakuboards.com/misc.php?do=bbcode#youtube][u]vB Code List[/u][/url] page that shows which part to use. I would've liked to make the tag so that you could just paste the entire URL, but I don't think it's possible with the way custom bb code works.[/color]
-
[color=#4B0082]vB doesn't count any bb tags towards the character limit and I don't think there's any option to change that. There is, however, a little trick to get around the character limit when posting videos. After the video ID, type an ampersand (&) and then thirteen letters/numbers (avoid punctuation and other symbols, some can cause problems) after it to reach the limit. What that does is tack the extra stuff onto the URL of where the video is being loaded from and the ampersand makes it get treated as a PHP option. But since you typed gibberish and no such option exists, it's just ignored and the video loads normally. So, for example, instead of putting [u]40AfgPFKChk[/u] between the youtube tags you'd put [u]40AfgPFKChk&nyaaaaaaaaaaa[/u].[/color]

[color=#4B0082]If you're having trouble accessing chat, make sure JavaScript and cookies are allowed in your browser. If you have it set to only allow whitelisted sites to set cookies, make sure that 207.58.181.125 is allowed. (That's the IP address for the chat.) Likewise, if you use any script blockers, like the NoScript add-on for Firefox, make sure the IP is allowed in those. If none of that is the problem, there may not be anything that can be done. Like Allamorph mentioned, some people have trouble connecting to the chat for whatever reason. You can try running a [url=http://dns-tools.domaintools.com/?q=207.58.181.125&m=traceroute][u]traceroute[/u][/url] to the chat IP to see if the connection is getting hung up somewhere.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]FFIV Advance is basically just the original game with the added ability to swap out party members once you get to the final dungeon, plus a couple extra dungeons. The only differences in the actual gameplay are some slowdown and bugginess, which is mainly present during battles. You have to be careful to make sure the cursor actually moves when you press the control cross or else you may end up selecting the wrong command. Also, there's a bug in the turn order where sometimes a character will get to take two actions in a row even though their ATB gauge hasn't refilled. It's annoying but it doesn't cripple the game, and the slowdown actually makes some battles easier than the original hard type version. The first extra dungeon is mainly just a place to level up and get better equipment for the secondary party members that become available again just before the end of the game. The second one opens up after you beat the game and is pretty huge, featuring separate paths that each require the use of a different character. FFIV DS has a lot more changes from the original, though I don't know too many specifics since I still haven't actually played it myself. (Other stuff seems to keep sapping my monies first...) Instead of being able to swap party members near the end, whenever a character leaves your party you get to take their special abilities and give them to your remaining party members, and there's also other ways to customize the characters' abilities. Monsters and bosses also have new abilities, and I'm guessing new stats as well since I, too, have heard that the DS version is harder. And obviously there's the new 3D graphics, FMV sequences, and voice acting. Though, to go along with the voice acting, you can no longer change the character names. I'm not sure what kind of extra content FFIV DS has, other than some minigames and a couple little side-quests. As for whether to get FFIV or FFVI, that's a tough call. I, personally, prefer FFIV but a lot of people I've talked to seem to like FFVI better. FFVI also happens to be my second favorite in the series after FFIV, so it's not even a large gap in preference for me. But, preferences aside, here's some of the big differences between FFIV and FFVI in terms of gameplay: [list][*]FFVI is substantially longer. Like, about three times as long as FFIV – think 60 hours instead of 20 if you want to clear all of FFVI's optional content and get all the characters. [*]FFVI has a much larger cast of characters, each with a unique special ability. Most of them are interesting and well-developed, too. [*]FFVI's magic system allows almost everyone to use both black and white magic, which makes the game substantially easier than FFIV if you build your characters well. [*]FFVI's party size is four, whereas FFIV's is five. This plays into the last point, since you don't need as many specialized characters and it makes battles easier to manage. [*]FFVI Advance fixes bugs from the original game (yay for the evade stat actually working) rather than introducing new ones as FFIV Advance did.[/list][/color]

[color=#4B0082]Okay, I rounded up the nominations and now it's time to vote. [color=#4B0082]In my case I think, "[url=http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=7820][u]Baroqueheat[/u][/url] is going to be a State Alchemist?" because that's the role I remember him by best. And next comes, "Awesome!" I think Miki will do great as Roy since he can switch between the funny and serious tones really well. Shannon from Scrapped Princess is another such role of his that comes to mind. What got me most excited, though, was seeing Inoue Kikuko on the list and [i]not[/i] in one of her usual roles. Everything I've heard her in outside of her typecasting has been awesome and I can't wait to hear her as Lust.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]There was some [url=http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-03-03/best-buy-anime-sale-store-list][u]news[/u][/url] about this posted on ANN a few days ago. A lot of Best Buy stores will be cutting back their selection of anime to only the most popular titles. Surprisingly, the one in my city is not on the list. Though I'm not even sure if anywhere else in town carries anime, so they may be getting all of the local sales. Not that I much care, since everything I've seen in Best Buy that I'm interested in buying can be gotten cheaper online.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]The banners are always great but, I gotta say, some of this year's were particularly good. A few actually made me laugh out loud. And nice touch on the misspelling of my screen name. ;) Congrats to everyone that made it in and a big thanks to everyone that worked on organizing things.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]The minimum limit is twenty-five characters and, yes, it's a forum-wide rule. It's there to make people think a bit instead of going, "i agree lol," and such.[/color]
