Date: Look at the time stamp on the post. Username: Desbreko Age: 20 Location: California, USA Time on OB: Seven years (registered September 6, 2001) Submission: I've had lots of good times here on OB over the last seven years and I imagine I'll still be here in another two. Except for my early days on the forum, I've primarily been a lurker whose posting is rather sporadic but I've risen to the third highest post count on the site through sheer longevity. I wonder where I'll rank when this is opened. When I do post these days, it's mainly in the gaming and anime (and staff) forums. And still in an indigo (#4B0082) font color, even though I've stopped bothering on other sites. Currently, I'm one of the site's two administrators working directly under James and have spent the majority of my time on the site as part of the staff. So far, I've always managed to make time for working on the site so I'll probably also still be on the staff in some position or other in two years. Recently I've been working more on the technical side of things as well as regular site management so maybe that will increase. On that note, it would be nice if I had finally gotten around to learning PHP by the time this is opened. Some things I'd like to be remembered for, besides being an all-around awesome guy and my work on the staff, include my [thread=35704]DailyOtaku[/thread] series of spoof articles about various happenings on OB. Currently there are seven articles, written over the course of nearly five years. (Yeah, I know that's not many. I only write them when I feel like it and have a particularly juicy subject.) Hopefully I'll add a couple more over the next two years. I doubt they'll be forgotten, but I also have to mention the epic pranks I've pulled on the site. So far, these include:

A Valentine's Day 2008 prank where I changed The Lounge's forum name to Rach & SunfallE's Love Shack, to poke fun at Rachmaninoff and SunfallE's real life relationship and the fact that they both moderated the forum.
An April Fools 2008 prank where I changed everyone's avatar to an animated avatar of Hatsune Miku doing the Caramelldansen and their signatures to a YouTube video of the original dance and song with Mai and Mii from the game/anime Popotan. I also added the dancing Mai and Mii animation to the site's top banner. This one was dedicated to Gavin since he had previously said, "I can't wait to see what Des has planned [for April Fools]...so long at least as he doesn't turn the entire boards into one giant Caramelldansen video. *Shudders*"
And, shortly after the April Fools 2008 prank, I created a Caramelldansen themed skin (also featuring Hatsune Miku) for the site, as well as an option to add the dancing Mai and Mii animation to the other skins' top banners. It was complete with the music and all, with the usual podcast link being replaced by a Flash MP3 player that streamed the Caramelldansen (Speedycake Remix) song.
50
Outside of OB, a recent hobby of mine has been making video walkthroughs for games, which I upload to my YouTube channel. Right now I've got dungeon walkthroughs and boss videos for Zelda: A Link to the Past, a 100% walkthrough and boss videos for Super Metroid, boss videos for Zelda: Ocarina of Time, some boss videos for Final Fantasy IV Advance, a few boss videos for Mega Man X, and some misc. videos. Producing good walkthrough videos takes a lot of time so I've only done videos for a few of my favorite games. My latest interest has been fansubbing anime with our site's other lovely administrator, Dagger. As of this writing, we've released three things: Aria the Origination ep5.5, the Lucky Star OVA, and Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei ep1. I don't have any plans to do this regularly, though, so we just sub stuff we particularly like when it's unlikely or unclear whether another group will do it (and do it well). A rising interest of mine, sparked from the former two, is video encoding and editing. Maybe by the time this is reopened I'll have actually put to use some of the AMV ideas I've had floating around in my mind for years. (Seriously, why has a Rurouni Kenshin/Belinda Carlisle - Summer Rain AMV not been made yet?) As you can tell from everything I've mentioned above, I take interest in a lot of different stuff. And I do a lot of different stuff well. But that's actually been a bit of a problem for me; I'm kind of a jack of all trades, master of none, and have yet to find much of a clue about what I want to pursue as a career. Which is the reason I'm currently a lazy bum who's not in college. I seriously hope I'll have figured out what I want to do by the time this is opened back up.
 2. About time I got around to posting in here. I put mine up on my theO world but didn't bother going into very much detail there. Mizunashi Akari: It's hard not to love Akari and I'm pretty sure it's flat out impossible to actually dislike her. She's such a sweet, cheerful, caring, and gentle person who makes friends with absolutely everyone. She's a bit spacey at times but she also comes up with some surprisingly eloquent lines to describe the beauty in the world?even if they are sappy. Hiiragi Kagami: I would have such a fun time teasing my favorite anime tsundere here. But besides that, I think we'd get along well. Whatever we're doing, we both have that drive to do it well even if we're not too enthusiastic about it. Hanamoto Hagumi: Hagu-chan is just too freakin' adorable. She's quiet and shy but very sweet and caring when she opens up, almost to a fault. She's the kind of girl who makes you want to steal her away and hide her from the harshness of the world, yet she has the determination to face things herself. Shindou Chihiro: I can't explain this one too much without spoiling a part of ef - a tale of memories, but I like her for similar reasons as Hagu. As you can probably tell from the eye-patch, she's got a tragic history. Horo: Leaving aside anything about furries, Horo is incredibly cool, clever, and cunning. She is a wolf deity who's lived for hundreds of years, after all. I love how she's normally playful with an aura of complete confidence about her, yet when she's serious she gets downright vicious. Belldandy: My first anime love, Belldandy is basically the perfect girl?as expected of a goddess. (Not that the rest of the goddesses in Ah! My Goddess are anywhere close to matching her.) That's really all that needs to be said. Fujibayashi Kyou: Similar to Kagami but with less tsundere and more attitude, I'd still have fun teasing Kyou but I'd actually have to watch myself or else risk getting hurt. Etoh Mei: Another tsundere?I can never get too much tsundere?Mei is also similar to Kagami but leans a little more towards the deredere side.
 3. I'm a Christian. I'm also one of the site's administrators. So I'm pretty sure I'm welcome here. If you don't feel welcome here, it's only because you play the victim whenever people disagree with your opinions. Plenty of the site's staff have tried to help you out and get you acquainted with how things work here. But if you keep posting these, "You guys hate me!" pity fests every time someone disagrees with you, you really won't be welcome here anymore. This sort of thing is completely obnoxious and a waste of everyone's time. So, if you want to leave, go ahead; there's no one stopping you. If you want to stay, the only one who's going to prevent that is yourself. Thread Closed
 4. I was watching To Aru Majutsu no Index ep5 just now and this shot just cried out to be posted. Also, one from Honey and Clover.
 5. There was a permanent OB room at first and, yeah, it was removed because no one used it. All the OB peoples just mingled with the theO peoples in the lobby or other rooms.
 6.
Does anyone else think that the ED song is a little out of sync with the series mood? While the lyrics could fit I find the tune catchy but a bit out there for the show.
I've been thinking that every time I hear it. When I watched the first episode I was expecting an ED along the same lines as the OP (
 7.
The ending to the episode is interesting, too -- obviously, what Taiga is thinking has to do with
Ami wanting to take time off modeling. I'm guessing the thing with the sweets is Ami desiring a more "normal" life instead of the regulated life I imagine she has as a model.

I also picked up a similar meaning from the end of ep5. I'm guessing that
Taiga recognized that Ami buying all snacks from the convenience store was similar to herself before she started mooching off Ryuuji. Thus she guessed that Ami is also living alone and, together with her taking time off from (or skipping out on?) modeling, that she's probably run away from home or something.
It should be fun to see how ep6 follows up on that. Edit: gg's translator is working on the series with a new group now, under the tag qq. I recommend their release.
 8. First off, try running a spyware scan with Spybot and/or Ad-aware and see if they pick up anything. (You can download both for free.) Anti-virus scans are good too but this sounds more like a spyware problem than a virus. Also make sure that Firefox is added to your list of exceptions in the Windows Firewall. If that doesn't do it, disable any Firefox add-ons (aka extensions) that you've got installed and see if that helps. If it does, go through and re-enable them one-by-one until the problem starts again, to isolate the offending add-on. If that still doesn't help, try backing up only your bookmarks file (run a search for bookmarks.html if you don't know where it is) and completely uninstalling Firefox. Make sure all your profile data and everything is wiped, then re-install and replace your bookmarks file. If none of that helps, the connection errors are most likely just a problem with your net connection. Though I'm not sure what else could be causing redirects besides trojans or bad Firefox add-ons.
 9. Well, I came into the series knowing for sure I would like it unless it completely bombed ('cause of the tsundere and all), but it still turned out to be even better than I expected. And... um... what else can I say that wouldn't just be copying Shin's post? Here, have a GIF of Taiga chewing:
 10. I finally got around to watching Kyo no Gononi ep3 and, while most of it was more rehashing, the last section was original and absolutely hilarious. It was basically what I'd been waiting for to renew my faith in the series. The OAV only covered so much, so the series is going to have to switch to more original stories soon?and if they're as good as that one I'll be happy. On another note, I wish Chibi would start getting their releases out. Chihiro's have missing lines and don't even translate the OP or ED. :animesigh
 11.
Also, are there any more adventure types out there that has more action than Scrapped Princess? I've been feeling a little deprived of my action lately.
Slayers, Slayers, Slayers, and more Slayers. (And there's actually that much of it, so it can keep you occupied for a good while.) It's the definitive fantasy/adventure series, in my opinion. Lots of fighting, lots of magic, lots of blowing things up, lots of comedy—it's got tons of everything that makes a good fantasy/adventure series for me. Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle is also a great series, though you'd have to read the ongoing manga for the full story since the anime stops part way through and isn't being continued. The Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk is good and it's being continued next year. Rune Soldier is amusing, in the same sort of style as Slayers but not as good. El Hazard isn't bad if you don't mind the harem theme mixed into it.
 12. Holy crap, I'm up to a dozen shows. And I haven't even watched any of Hyakko yet.
100
Favorites Clannad ~After Story~ I'm still waiting for the widescreen versions to start being released but, you know, it's Clannad. I don't even need to have seen it to know it's awesome. ef - a tale of melodies Melodies has so far been every bit as great as Memories was. I love the artistic style of this series coupled with the delicious romantic drama. And Mizuki is love. Tales of the Abyss Fantasy/adventure, game-based anime gogogo! I love good fantasy series and TotA is delivering. It's also making me want to play the game. Toradora! I knew I was going to like this series if only because of the tsundere, but it's turning out to be even better than I thought. All the main characters so far are plenty amusing and it doesn't ride on the tsundere alone.
100
Very Enjoyable Shugo Chara!! Doki Continuing where the first series left off, Doki is just as full of magical girl moe as the first one was. And we finally, finally get to see more of Dia! This makes me happy. Chaos;Head Dagger's fanspazzing has not lead me astray yet. Takumi's delusions and paranoia have been amusing to watch and the mystery elements are intriguing. There is also an abundance of long, pink hair, which I enjoy way too much. Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens This one turned out to be a lot better than I expected. I figured it would be mediocre and generic but it's been hilarious in the three episodes I've seen so far. Ep3, in particular, had a ton of bits that cracked me up. I love Nagi's personality and watching her toy with Jin is great fun. And the girls' hair is excessively animated, which I am also enjoying way too much.
100
Worth Watching (Probably) Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka It's disappointing that a series with such a loaded cast isn't better than this, but I've still been enjoying Akane-Iro enough to stick with it. Then again, I watch a lot of school romantic comedies even if they aren't the greatest. I dunno if this will be worth watching for people who are't already fans of the genre. Kyo no Gononi So far, this has mainly just rehashed material from the previous OAV, and the new content wasn't that great. In some parts of the first two episodes it felt like they stretched things out just to kill time. But, while I'm not too impressed since I watched the OAV first, I'll stick with the series if they have new content that's on par with the stuff that was already in OAV. To Aru Majutsu no Index I just can't shake the feeling of similarity between this and Shakugan no Shana. Which makes me uneasy since Shana was decidedly mediocre and the tsundere ended up being most of my reason for watching it. Index even has a similar catch in that, if it's also mediocre, I will probably keep watching for the amusing lolis. Michiko to Hatchin This is not exactly the type of anime I generally watch but, hey, I do enjoy variety. Ep1 was nearly all character introduction so we'll see what happens from there. It seems like I could either end up really liking it or being completely bored with it, depending on how things go. Kemeko-DX I was not impressed with the first episode, which made me sad because I thought this show would be funnier. It had a few laughs but nothing that great. With everything else I'm watching, it may end up getting dropped if it doesn't improve.
100
Dropped Yozakura Quartet The first episode was lame and, from what Shin has said, the next couple aren't any better. I wasn't very interested in this show to begin with, anyway.
 13. EnA's release has Lucky Channel subbed. That horrible streaming video release was the one that skipped over Lucky Channel entirely. That one isn't even worth watching. But, yeah. Ours has a comparable or smoother translation for almost everything, better typesetting, better video quality, and soft subs instead of hard.
 14. SunfallE posted some tips on her world about what to do and what not to do when making a quiz. I'd look that over.
 15.
Why is there no bumping? Not only is the OVA out, but it has been subbed by the Delightful Dagger and Deranged (eh, couldn't think of any other word) Desbreko!
'Cause after spending 12+ hours working on subs for an episode you don't really feel like talking about it anymore for a bit. :animestun So, yeah, subs are out for this now, from Dagger and I [DnD], and from [EnA]. I recommend our release 'cause I think it's better in pretty much every way, and not just because I'm biased. To follow up on my previous post, there was unfortunately no singing from Kagamiku. In fact, the Miku cosplay only lasted for a short time, which was the only thing I was actually disappointed about. Everything else about the OVA is classic Lucky Star goodness. There were plenty of times where I'd be timing dialogue for the subs and have to pause as I cracked up at the hilarity of things.
 16.
OMG I just saw a sub of the Lucky Star OVA by 'Dagger and Desbreko'! Was that you guys?! Awesome!!!
Zomg it's DB. Haven't seen you around in a while. And, yeah, that's us. I was impatient for a decent sub so I got Dagger to translate and we did our own. :catgirl: Okay, more impressions. ef - a tale of melodies was as wonderful as I could've hoped. I'm really looking forward to finding out more about Yuu and Yuuko. And Mizuki is just awesome in every way. Like I predicted, I'm ravenously awaiting ep2. Kemeko-DX (aka Kemeko Deluxe!) was plenty amusing and, also like I figured, similar to To Love-Ru. I'll keep watching as long it keeps up the funny. I watched Yozakura Quartet ep1 and was not impressed. The looong narration at the start was a turn-off and nothing about the rest of the episode really made up for it. The only character that interested me at all was the cat ears girl, and half of that was just due to the cat ears. Toradora! is also being subbed by a crapload of different groups now. I've been comparing and it looks like AnimeYoshi's and Mayu-Genjo's releases are the best. (I'm personally leaning towards AnimeYoshi.) I would recommend gg's release except that they apparently added a ton of grain when encoding.
 17. I haven't watched the OAV, no. I guess I should hunt it down before starting the series, then. It looks like Tales of the Abyss is the oversubbed-all-to-hell series of the season. So far there are six different groups subbing it. Both Shinsen's and gg's releases are good, though I don't know enough Japanese to tell which is correct in their few little differences. gg's is 720p while Shinsen's is 576p but there's the same amount of detail in both so I think it's just a station upscale and not true HD. Personally, I'm leaning towards gg because I think their translation flows a little smoother. Osu's release isn't bad but there seem to be a lot of little translation errors that people have pointed out, and they misspell a lot of names. Like Gome said, don't get Weib's release; its framerate is jerky and the timing and editing are horribly sloppy. I've seen the first episode of Toradora! and it was everything I expected, so I'm happy. Lots of tsundere action and laughs. Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka ep1 was kinda meh but it was fun just to try to match the characters' voices to their voice actresses. I recognized about half of the main cast so far... We'll see if it gets good. The first episode of Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens was slightly amusing but nothing that great. It basically just introduced the two main characters. Needs moar crazy. I picked up To Aru Majutsu no Index because Eclipse is subbing it and, well, they're freaking Eclipse. It's not quite what I expected—the tone is much lighter than I figured, with lots of comedic bits, though it looks like the drama will start next episode. It feels a lot like Shakugan no Shana, actually. And it has a loli teacher... I may have to stick with this one.
 18. There is a setting that allows members to edit the titles of their own threads during a certain period of time after posting it, but that seems to be it. After that expires, only moderators can edit the title and there's no way to set it to unlimited. Right now it's set to ten minutes.
 19.
How did you get that one and miss this one Des ? It was in the first episode for God's sake. :p
I could've also posted, like, three others from Gurren Lagann but I decided to just pick my favorite. Also, something from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai:
 20. There's a crapload of shows that I'm interested in this season.
100
Must Watch Clannad ~After Story~ Clannad is my second favorite series from KyoAni so far, after Lucky Star, so I am very much looking forward to seeing where After Story goes. The first one struck a perfect balance between comedy, drama, and romance and I can't wait for more. ef - a tale of melodies When I finally got around to watching the first season of ef, it was so good that it felt like it was smacking me upside the head and yelling, "About damn time!" This is one of those series I'm going to be ravenously waiting on for new episodes each week. Tales of the Abyss I haven't played the game but I have seen all the previous Tales anime adaptions and liked them. And I love me some good fantasy/adventure anime so I doubt I can go wrong with this one. Shugo Chara!! Doki Shugo Chara! has become my second favorite magical girl anime, after Cardcaptor Sakura, so of course I'm looking forward to another year of its moeness.
100
Interested Chaos;Head After all the fanspazzing from Dagger I feel almost like I'm a fan without even having played the game or seen the anime yet. I'm not especially into the horror/psychological genres but I have been enjoying Higurashi so we'll see. Toradora! The third season of Zero no Tsukaima is ending and I need another fix of Kugimiya Rie's tsundere voice. This is it. Hyakko The setup reminds me of Manabi Straight and Hidamari Sketch, which is enough to pique my curiosity. Then you toss Hirano Aya in there and I've no choice but to pick it up. Kemeko Deluxe! It sounds kind of like To Love-Ru, which I was having fun with until all the good subs stalled. Only this series has Saito Chiwa in a lead role. Do want. Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka The plot summary we've got so far sounds like a pretty generic school romantic comedy setup. But, as Shin put it, the cast is totally stacked. 22. The default time zone for OB is Eastern Time (GMT-5). I'd assume the records are based on that. As for finding a place to put the registered users online in a day record, if Petie knows where to pull the info from in the database I think we should just be able to stick it down in the little OtakuBoards Statistics table on the main page.
 23. I was disappointed with the second half of the show as well, for all the same reasons. With it ending up at only 12 episodes, everything past ep7 felt incredibly rushed. And emo Yuuto certainly didn't help; I went into the series expecting a mountain of cliches, and I got them, but that one was totally out of place.
 24. Like me and Petie mentioned in the planning thread, it appears the only way to reset the most users online record is to manually edit the database and change the field for it back to zero. So, unless we can find which table and field that value is stored in, resetting the counter won't happen. I still think a better record to try for is most users logged in during one day. It's not publicly viewable but at least it can be accurately tracked in the admin cp and isn't influenced by search engine spiders. I mean, right now there's 6 members and 71 guests online and most of the guests are spiders—even if we reset the users online record and make a new one, it's hardly going to be accurate.
 25. Um ... that's a hard drive enclosure, not a hard drive itself. Meaning you'll need to buy a 2.5 inch hard drive to put into it for it to work.
