Originally posted by Squashed Snail I don't really see any point in releasing any Final Fantasy games on the GCN..... I mean, there's already something like 10 FF games on the Sony.... why not continue it on Sony? If they jump to the GCN, all the PSX owners won't be able to play the rest of the series, unless they buy a GC.... Well that's my little rant.... :)
If this deal with Square and Nintendo goes through, Square will still be making Final Fantasy games on the PS2. They just might also be making them for the GCN. I REALLY hope that they port FFXI to the GCN! (I think I've said this about 10 times, LOL).

That sounds good to me. I'm currently making a Zelda quiz, and that's what I'm going to do... Now, I just need another, oh, 75 questions to make 100. :cross: Well, is there a prize? You didn't answer me. ;)

Drake rode at a fairly fast pace on the Chocobo, almost a run. The sun was getting high up into the sky; it would be noon in about an hour. The ground started to be more rocky and rough, as they got closer and closer to Midgar; less and less plant life was growing in the ground. Still, there was always at least a little grass growing. The area was still recovering from the Meteor that almost hit 30 years ago. Drake: Ugh... I should've slept longer... He continues on, almost dozing, for another hour before stopping to rest. He gets off the Chocobo, and sits on the ground. He hears the sound of a motorcycle off in the distance, getting closer. Drake: Looks like someone else is also coming this way. Wonder if they're friendly... Something strange drives up, and stops about 15 feet away from Drake. It looks like a motorcycle that's riding itself. Drake: What the heck?! The strange mechanical monster fires a bunch of missiles out of it's back end, and they come around straight towards Drake. Drake: CRAP! He dives to the side, from his sitting position, and rolls. The missiles just barely miss him, but he can still feel the heat from the explosions. The Chocobo runs away to a safe distance, and then turns to watch. Drake: You wanna play with missiles, eh?! I'LL GIVE YOU A MISSILE!!! Drake whips out his rocket launcher and fires a rocket straight into the monster, blowing it to pieces. One chunk, larger than the rest, rolls towards Drake a bit. Drake: Serves it right, the [censored]... He gets up and walks over to the piece of wreckage. Drake: Well, what do we have we here? He takes out his utility knife and pries a crack open with it. Inside he finds 100 Gil. Drake: This'll come in handy... After the monster was destroyed, the Chocobo walked back to where Drake was, and looked at him, Drake just now noticing that it had returned. Chocobo: Wark! Drake: You like the fight, eh? ...Well, we'd best be going... He gets back on the Chocobo, and continues riding towards Midgar. Drake can see its tall buildings in the distance, now. Only about 10 more miles to go.
Originally posted by Final_Flash Heh, no you won't NeoC... It's first person to answer wins, I'm afraid... Which might be a not-so-good thing... Hmm... unless anyone can suggest something, that's the way it's gonna have to be...
I don't think that's a very good way at all... I can only get on later in the day, so if the rules are like that, then I guess I'm not going to be able to participate... How about people PM the answers to you, and then the person with the highest score wins? Would that work? By the way, is there a prize for this? :D

First of all, don't buy another Giant's Knife. It's a complete waste of money. Like Deus said, though, there is a sword that's like the Giant's Knife, except that it doesn't break. It's called the Biggoron's Sword, and you get it from completing the trading sequence. I'll write up a walkthrough for the trading sequence tomorrow and add it to this post, since it's 4:15 AM where I live... Need... sleep..... can't... go... on... Edit 1: I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to be a day late with that walkthrough... Some problems came up today that I had to take care of, and I didn't have time to write it. Again, I'm sorry... I'll try and make sure to get it done tomorrow. Edit 2: Okay, here it is. Sorry it took so long. Battlepoop's one pretty much told how to do everything, but there were a couple parts that were left out.

I too am going to have to choose "other". And, Zelda: Link's Awakening also gets my vote for best Game Boy game. Personally, I prefer to play my old GB games on the GBA. Mainly because I like the feel of the system more than the GBC. It's wider, which I like, and it feels a lot like a Super NES controller (I suppose that was intentional, since it has L and R buttons). Plus, there's a secret shop in Zelda Oracle of Ages and Seasons when you play it on your GBA. I kept my old GBC though, because the GBA doesn't have an IR port, which I use with Pokémon Gold.

Besides the normal notes that you can make with the A and C buttons, you can also make others by using the R and Z buttons, and also the Control Stick. This works with all of the instruments. R Button: Makes the normal note one half-step higher. Z Button: Makes the normal note one half-step lower. Up Control Stick: All the way up makes the normal note one note higher. Down Control Stick: All the way down makes the normal note one note lower. Left/Right Control Stick: Adds a vibration effect to the note.

Well, I got a Meowth card in the box. Here's a picture of it:
Originally posted by Sephiroth I meant bad for US, lol, seeing as were going to be competing against a gaming guru such as yourself, lol....
And me too, if Flash is going to let more than eight people in. If so, count me in. I know tons about Super NES and Game Boy, and a fair bit about the NES. A little bit about the Genesis, also.
Originally posted by Sephiroth most people tend to have just gotten cross-slash at that part of the game....
I guess I'm just special, aren't I? :D By the way, the enemies that look like houses, that are in that area just before the Wall Market, are great for building up your Limit Break meter when you first get there! :D

Drake wakes up after getting four hours of sleep, the sun shining in through the open window. The sounds of the town come in too, the sounds of civilization. Drake gets up, and takes a shower. He then goes down to the stable, to check on the Chocobo. It's alseep in it's stall, tired from the previous nights journey. Drake: Ugh, I wish I could keep sleeping... He yawns, and then heads out into the town to get something to eat, having barely eaten anything since he was at the Chocobo Ranch. After eating, he heads to the weapons shop to get some more granades and rockets for his rocket launcher. He walks in the door, and notices a long, curved sword hanging on the wall. Drake: That thing looks like it's too long to actually be used. Shopkeeper: It's a replica of the Masamune, the sword that Sephiroth used. He was the only one that could use it. Drake: Damn... Shopkeeper: So, were you looking for anything in particular? Drake: Yeah, I was looking for some hand granades and some rockets for this. He pulls out his rocket launcher, and shows it to the shopkeeper. Shopkeeper: Sure thing, how many of each? Drake: Two granades, and 3 rockets. Shopkeeper: Right, just a minute. The shopkeeper goes into the back room of the shop, and returns in a couple of minutes. Shopkeeper: Okay, that'll be 400 Gil. Drake pays for the stuff, and puts the granades in the empty slot on his belt. He loads the rockets into his rocket launcher. Drake: A dozen hand granades, and six rockets! Can't beat that, eh? He puts his rocket launcher back in its holster, and makes sure it's secure. Shopkeeper: Um, sure, I guess... Have a nice day. Drake walks out of the shop, and heads back to the Chocobo stable at the inn. The Chocobo is wide awake by now. Chocobo: Wark! Drake: Hello to you too! I see you're finally up. Drake strokes the Chocobo's neck, and then feeds it some greens. Drake: Hmmm... looks like I'll need to buy a few more... He goes into the inn, and walks up to the front desk. Innkeeper: Ah, you're the one that came in this morning. Do you need something? Drake: Yeah, do you have some Chocobo greens I could buy? I'm all out. Innkeeper: Sure, they're 50 Gil each. They're out in the stable, if you'll follow me. The innkeeper leads Drake out to the stable, and opens up a bin of greens. Innkeeper: How many did you want? Drake: three should do it for now. The innkeeper hands Drake three packages of greens, and Drake pays him 150 Gil. Drake: Thanks, I think I'm going to take off in a bit. I'll be down with the room key in a few minutes. Innkeeper: Okay, you can drop in off at the front desk. Drake walks up to his room, and packs up his stuff into his pack, being sure not to crush the greens. He locks the door and leaves, closing the door behind him. He walks back downstairs, and gives the room key back to the innkeeper. Innkeeper: It's been a pleasure to have you. Come back any time! Drake: Thanks, this place is actually pretty nice. He goes around back to the stable, and gets on his Chocobo. He rides it out of the stable, and out of town, off towards Midgar.

I didn't have any problem trashing on the Turks, or Rufus... Even if I do think the Turks are cool... For Rufus, he didn't even get to attack. One Climhazzard Limit Break, and the fight was over... You don't need a Chocobo to cross the marsh... and you don't need to stop or save and reset the game, either... It's possible to go straight across, all at once, on foot. That's what my brother did, and he didn't even do it all the way up against the mountains, either. I'm not sure what level he was at, though.
Originally posted by Battlepoop If it remains at 0% when there is 20 coins, then you got all the trophies.
Not necessarily... I had that happen before I got 250 trophies, and then I got some more smash trophies, which got me to 250. Then I could get more from the lottery. I think that the amount that you can get from the lottery goes up every time you get 50 trophies. And no, it doesn't tell you when you've gotten all of them that you can from the lottery. It only brings up a message when you get 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, and 290 (all of them).
Originally posted by Solid Snake Ah, great times. However, this was merely the first game that Mario appeared in. Although it may seem that Mario, or Jumpman as referred to in the game, was the main character who was saving Peach, the game will be forever known as the first Donkey Kong game, so technically, we have gone a bit off-topic. We could say that it sort of introduced both characters in a way though, but with different names than their future titles. I found the game very enjoyable, which I currently play on Donkey Kong 64 as a mini-game.
No, I don't think talking about the Donkey Kong arcade game is off-topic at all. After all, the topic is The History of The Great Mario... And Donkey Kong is where Mario first started out, even if he was named Jumpman at the time. If you wanted to include every game that Mario has made a cameo appearence in, that list would be really long. There've been tons for the NES and Super NES. I think the Super Mario Bros. Movie was fairly important, even if it did kind of stink... I think it may have been the first movie based on a video game, but I'm not quite sure. You know, I think I'll rent it and have my friends over to watch it... I don't think any of them have seen it before, so I'll get a fresh point of view. That, and I saw it when I was pretty young, so I don't remember too much of it; I'd kind of like to see it again.

We're talking about the Game Boy game. I don't know if they stopped including the promo Meowth card after awhile, or not... But that'd be a good guess, if you didn't get one. The card was included with every copy, when I bought it, but they might have stopped including it.

Evening has come, and Drake is setting up camp in the gap between the mountains, along a cliff with a slight overhang. The Chocobo is eating some greens, and Drake eating some dried food from his pack. Drake: Well, it's not the best food... But it'll have to do... He hears a noise, and the Chocobo looks around nervously... Drake: Just what I need... monsters... Chocobo: WARK! The Chocobo starts backing away from the cliff... Drake: Hey! comeback! Drake barely has time to grab his pack and jump onto the Chocobo, before it takes off sprinting. Drake: What the heck was that?! Drake holds on tight, as the Chocobo speeds along, sprinting as fast as it can go. Drake: (thinking) Well, at least it's going in the right direction... The Chocobo continues on for about two hours, slowing down bit by bit, as it gets tired. It's nearing midnight, and the open sky is full of stars. Finally, the Chocobo stops, and Drake gets off. Drake: (thinking) Whatever that was, it had to be pretty bad to scare it that much... Off in the distance, Drake can just make out the lights of Midgar. The grass is rougher here, and the ground isn't as flat. Drake: Well, now you've done it... It won't be safe to camp out here in the open... We'll have to keep going, and see if we can't get to Kalm. Chocobo: Wark... They both stand there for a few minutes, resting... A wolf howls in the distance... Drake gets back on the Chocobo, and starts it off towards Kalm. Drake: (thinking) this is just great... It'll be light by the time I reach Kalm... All I need is another unplanned detour... He rides on, and starts to see lights ahead of him. Not too much farther now, until Drake gets to Kalm... Drake is struggling to stay awake, as the Chocobo plods along, walking now... In the east, the sky is growing light, making star after star disappear from the sky... The sun is about half-way above the horizon, when Drake rides into Kalm, his eyes half shut. He rides to the inn, and knocks on the door. The innkeeper opens the door, and smiles at Drake. Innkeeper: You look like you've been riding all night! Drake: I... have..... Can I get... a room? Innkeeper: Yes, of course. I was just about to open, actually. Drake gives the innkeeper some money, and gets the key to a room. He walks upstairs, as the innkeeper takes the Chocobo around back to the stables. He fumbles with the key, trying to unlock the door... He finally manages to get the key into the keyhole, and he opens the door. Walking in, he shuts the door and locks it. He drops all his stuff on the floor, and falls onto the bed, not caring about anything except sleep.

Jumpman, on the PC!? What's the game called? It couldn't have been made by Nintendo, since they don't make PC games... Who's it made by? A few things about the Donkey Kong arcade game: Jumpman is a carpenter, not a plumber. Jumpman has a mustache and a hat, because they were easier to draw than a nose and hair. They didn't have much space on those old arcade games, so they had to keep the characters simple. Donkey Kong was named "donkey" because he was supposed to be kind of stupid, like a donkey.

What kind of game is it? I've heard the name before, but I don't know anything about it.
-
Ah, okay. I looked on www.nintendo.com and it said this: Every enemy, every friend, and every secret from the original game is back -- and you'll even find a Lost Level and extra bonuses created exclusively for the Game Boy Color version. So, yes, there is an extra level that was added for the GBC version.
Originally posted by Battlepoop I got the strategey guide, so I know all!!!:D :D :D
No, you obviously don't... You won't get any coins from a match if there's only CPU players in it. That's why you get more coins if you have four human players in a match, instead of only one human player. And I just tried this, by playing a match with four CPUs; I didn't get any coins. Then I played a match with me and three CPUs, and I got two small coins. A good way to get coins is to go into Adventure Mode, and then, on the side scrolling levels, get to the end but don't finish. Then just "smash" the Control Stick back and forth. You don't have to even do any moves, just running back and forth works. The more you do it, the more coins you'll get. A couple of good levels for this are the Mushroom Kingdom, and the Ungerground Maze. I wouldn't recomend doing it on the F-Zero stage, though; you'll likely get run over.

I moved some posts from this thread to here, because they go better in this topic. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mario Bros. is an old arcade game that got ported to a bunch of early consoles, before the NES came out. It's the multi-player game in Super Mario Advance 1 and 2. Shortly after the NES came out, Super Mario Bros. was released. It was remade as Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, on the GBC. Super Mario Bros. 2, for the NES, came out in 1988, and has now been remade as Super Mario Advance on the GBA. The GBA remake also includes Mario Bros. Mario Bros. appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3, with extra levels. The goal remained the same, though; you wanted to collect as many coins as you could, as fast as you could. Super Mario World is the Mario game on the Super NES, which was released at the same time as the system. It's been remade as Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2. The GBA remake also includes Mario Bros., and is compatible with the first Super Mario Advance for multi-player.

I've been getting EGM since August 2001, but I don't remember any pictures of a silver GCN... There've been pictures of the Q, which is kind of silver/grey... I dunno... You know what system I like the most, when it comes to how it looks? I like the NES. Nice and square, and it looks like it'd still work after hitting someone upside the head with it... And it probably would still work, too! You can do that with an old Game Boy, so it might work with an old NES... In an old issue of Nintendo Power, someone wrote in to tell about how he accidently dropped his GBC from five stories up... onto cement... and it still worked..... And Game Boy Colors don't seem as sturdy to me, as the old original Game Boys...

Mario actually started out in the arcade, in the game Donkey Kong. He was named Jumpman, though, but then Nintendo changed his name. The first actual Mario game is Mario Bros. which was also an arcade game. Then it got ported to a bunch of early systems, like the Atari; it also got ported to the NES, after it came out.
