I still don't have Mario Kart Wii. :animecry: But I'd be up for another SSBB tournament.

This is one of my favorite shows of the season. It fits my taste in anime pretty much perfectly with the fantasy/comedy mix. (You should check out Slayers, by the way; it's a similar sort of show, minus the video game references.) Myself, I've mainly been watching the HD "fansubs" from groups who transcribe the subs from the official release and add them as soft subs to HDTV rips. The difference in quality is rather large. Though when I get impatient I'll go watch the YouTube streaming version too.
Anyway, The real reason I'm here is to announce that less than a third of the way through episode 6, Cousin Yui became my uncontested favorite character.

Aceburner, if you like Yuri, just wait until you meet Hiyori.
I'm sensing a misreading. ... Does Sabrina have yuri on the brain? ;) Either way, Hiyori is awesome and definitely the funniest of the first-year girls. And there should be a reference coming up involving her that you should appreciate, Aceburner.

Must've been the Pikachu throwing you off. :p That one is good though, it matches up perfectly.
Wait... what?!? o_O Oh my freakin' hell! *laughs wildly* XD
ya rly. Some of the times where Konata pokes fun at Kagami mirror conversations between me and one of my friends almost exactly. I went out and found myself some scanlations of the manga and started reading it. Only the first twenty chapters have been done so far (about 4/5 of volume 1 out of five volumes that have been released in Japan), though. I'm wondering if it'll get licensed in the US if the anime does well over here. Miyuki, the source of all knowledge For the most part so far I'm finding that the anime is based scene-for-scene on the manga. Dialogue, characters' expressions, heck even camera angles, are nearly identical, though scenes aren't in exactly the same order. Of course, with Lucky Star being as awesome as it is, that's not such a bad thing. I've been laughing at the manga just as much as the anime.

Still not quite there. You've got RGB 249,249,249 at the edge of yours and it's 255,255,255 at the edge of Kimmeh's. You'll need to get it to at least 253 for it to not be noticeable (on my monitor at least).
-
Hmm. The transition between the backgrounds is pretty visible on your piece, Hybrid Ninja. It needs to be faded all the way out to pure white (or really close to it) at the left edge to match up with KimmehWolfwood's piece.

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
Desbreko replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
I blew through all of Lucky Star in, like, five days recently. That was my fourth time watching it, which is more than any other series. (Slayers season one is the only other to reach three times.) It continues to cement itself as my favorite anime. After that I started on Chocotto Sister, of which I've seen three episodes so far. It's been plenty cute and funny so far (Neko-nyan Dance~) but I just hope it can stay interesting through all twenty four episodes. Most series of this type that I've seen have gotten stale by the end. Edit: Okay, so the loli fanservice is getting a bit disconcerting. Most of it is used for humor but other times it seems completely random and unnecessary. -
Konata seems maybe just a little deep, but I like it better than Haruhi's VA.
Wendee Lee voices both Haruhi and Konata in the dubs, just like Hirano Aya voices both in the originals. Watching that trailer was weird for me. Not bad, really, just ... not right. Especially since I re-watched the entire series with subtitles over the last few days so I know exactly what those scenes sound like in Japanese. But at least the English voices fit the characters; Kagami's was the only one that sounded a bit off to me. I could probably stand watching the dub after getting used to it.

Gaming Guitar Hero IV: Rock Band's Future Nemesis
Desbreko replied to Aberinkula's topic in Noosphere
Needless to say I'm still going to buy the game. But I'll be using my Rock Band guitar, mic and drum kit, thanks.
From what I've been reading, Rock Band instruments won't be compatible with GH World Tour. You'll probably have to shell out for a whole new set if you want the game, which I'm betting a lot of people who bought Rock Band won't be willing to do. (I sure wouldn't.) It seems like Activision are shooting themselves in the foot with that. -
So what you guys are saying is that I could correct the price by banning Aberinkula?

They fail to take into account the fact that I'm here, thus making the site priceless.

There was another news article that said the OAV will be released this summer and that the main staff from the TV series are returning to work on it. Good news, especially since summer isn't far off, but that's all I've heard so far. Now I'm curious about how long it will be.

I had to do some editing on the piece anyway so the conversion to jpg didn't actually end up being any more trouble. But, yes, please make sure to use jpg when submitting pieces or else they'll just end up being converted anyway. Anyway, you should be a bit more careful with the edges of your pieces, sakazaki. The white drop shadow on the left side of Kenshin's sword was cut off so I removed it to keep it from looking awkward. Also, there was a one pixel line of brown along the black part of the left edge that I had to fill in. Please remember to always preview your piece next to the previous one, to make sure it matches up correctly, before posting it.
And yes, we have Forum Leaders... but that's far from adequate in my opinion. It's one of the million things we need to address at some stage. Possibly not on this version though.
If you've got something in mind for a staff list, I'm more than willing to put together a page for it and handle the coding side of things. Just let me know.

Anime Anime Out of Context (image heavy)
Desbreko replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in Otaku Central
Manga out of context, from Yotsubato! -
Some DVD reviews show up in the official updates occasionally, if that's what you meant. I know Gail (aka Panda) used to do a lot of them but I think she's been too busy lately. ANN is also decent for reviews. Though I personally prefer to just check the plot summaries and user ratings in their encyclopedia.

Er, yeah, I have no idea what you're referring to. Could you be more specific?

More details are being announced on May 10, apparently. I hope it has the same cast and that KyoAni is animating it as well.

Whenever these sorts of questions come up I always go back to the definition of the thing in question. Too often, people throw around arbitrary opinions without even paying attention to what the word they're using actually means. So, according to Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, from Dictionary.com, a community is:
Community 1. Common possession or enjoyment; participation; as, a community of goods. 2. A body of people having common rights, privileges, or interests, or living in the same place under the same laws and regulations; as, a community of monks. Hence a number of animals living in a common home or with some apparent association of interests. 3. Society at large; a commonwealth or state; a body politic; the public, or people in general.
OtakuBoards fits within the second definition since people gather here to discuss common interests. Notice the two uses of the word "or" in there when it mentions living together as a condition for being a community?it's one qualifier but not required. So, yes, I do think it counts as a community. Also, one of Dictionary.com's own definitions illustrates this well:
3. a social, religious, occupational, or other group sharing common characteristics or interests and perceived or perceiving itself as distinct in some respect from the larger society within which it exists (usually prec. by the): the business community; the community of scholars.
You often hear the word used to refer to the scientific community and other such groups of people who live across the entire world. As such, denying the validity of online communities is pretty stupid if you ask me.

Dredging OB's attachments and searching with Google didn't turn anything up. Though, now that I think about it, the text file would've exceeded the attachment file size limit, it was so huge. I guess there's a slight chance Tony may have backed up the OtakuFiles site before the hosting expired.

I remember why I gave it to her. No one else is going to get one just for repeating the same thing though. That would be boring. Also, I really don't want to repeat the ordeal that led to it....
