It's already been over a day since Sirius claimed so you can go ahead and make the next piece, Hybrid Ninja.

They shortened Marth's sword by about the same length as the sweet spot at the tip was in Melee. So now when you aim to hit with that sweet spot in Brawl you whiff instead. It's a small nerf and it took me a while to adjust but it doesn't hurt him too much once you get used to it. Samus herself feels nearly identical to her Melee version to me?even more so than Ganondorf actually. But the amount of lag on her attacks is now much longer in proportion to the lag of shielding or dodging, which makes her seem slower. So attacking without your opponent being able to hit you right back if they manage to avoid it is much harder now. On the plus side, her airborne Grappling Beam and back-air seem a little more powerful in Brawl. Pretty much everyone feels lighter in Brawl, though. The physics are much floatier. And yeah, I was sad about Captain Falcon. They made him easier to control in Brawl but took away all his good combos at the same time. Comboing into his forward-air is nearly impossible now and that was the major way to get KOs with him.

Zomg, I love Kirby again. I'd been playing him to unlock the Green Greens stage from Melee (yay for all stages being unlocked now) and I discovered I'm actually pretty good on him. He got some huge buffs in the form of less lag on a lot of his attacks compared to in Melee, which is awesome. I think he fits nicely into my third tier, just below Zelda. Meanwhile, Ganondorf and Peach have swapped places. Ganondorf himself has hardly changed from Melee but Brawl's tendency to reward defensive play and shielding/dodging even more than in Melee has hurt him. Peach, on the other hand, has made the transition much more gracefully and I find myself doing well with her. It's also a small change but Pikachu has edged ahead of Samus in my second tier. Like Ganondorf, the changes to dodging and shielding have hurt Samus though not as much. Captain Falcon has been dropped 'cause he sucks now (:animecry:) and I haven't played on Diddy in forever.... 1st tier: Marth 2nd tier: Ike, Link, Pikachu, Samus/ZS Samus 3rd tier: Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Lucario, Peach 4th tier: Ganondorf, Toon Link, Wolf

I live in California's northern valley. The only thing we get up here are floods. Except my city is one of the few built on high ground so I don't even have to worry about those. The most exciting it gets is when there's an especially bad thunderstorm that knocks out the power for a bit, or maybe when it snows a tiny bit once every five years or so. I feel both thankful and deprived at the same time when I read about all the weather phenomena that other places get.

We ended up playing the Melee version 'cause we liked the music better. :p I think it turned out for the better that way, though, 'cause we had to be really careful not to use our FSes while facing right or else we'd die if we missed. I think we both ended up suiciding once that way and it balanced out the one-hit-kill nature of Marth's FS.
I can't even imagine how to make a skin based on those.

...use your imagination with the rest.
Yeah, see, that's the problem. lol

I can't even imagine how to make a skin based on those. Now, a Chocolate Rain skin, that I can see....

Heh, yeah. Two Marths going at it with FSes on Yoshi's Island gets a bit nerve wracking. I wish I had thought to save the replay of me shaming you with Peach after the tournament match. :animedepr
Seriously, pink is the only word that sums up that new skin. Not my cup of tea Des, but I'm sure Nerdsy isn't the only one here who'll be using it. As for my dooming OB, I prefer to put a positive spin on it and say that hopefully this will lead to other new themed skins to be developed for OB... Yeah, I'm not really buying it either to be honest... ^_^; Though in all seriousness, Justin if you happen to read this, it would be cool to create a skin making event for OB.
Your reaction officially disappoints me. I was hoping for more along the lines of, "OMG WTF WHY?!" :animesigh Edit: Nevermind, I've seen chat logs now. :catgirl: I might end up making more skins in the future since the Caramelldansen one was fun to make. Probably not soon, though, 'cause I can only take so much graphics work at a time. I'm not bad at all the pixel art required for the icons and buttons but graphics really aren't my area of expertise.
We tried this with staff at first, but there wasn't a single bite - despite some people really pushing me to make all the relevant info for skins available. So that was disappointing. Maybe it's time to give it another shot in the wider community. At least the banner-making competitions are generally fairly popular.
I remember that. I downloaded the little package you posted but lacked the knowledge and inspiration to actually make anything at the time. On that note, it seems like it would be really hard to design a good skin without having access to the style manager and being able to see it in practice during development. While working on the Caramelldansen skin I had to tweak it a lot as it progressed, to keep colors consistent, fix spacing, and stuff like that, because I would notice things looking a bit off when put together on the page. Also: I split this off into a new thread to keep it from taking over the April Fools one.

Also, which Yoshi's Island stage? The Brawl one or the Melee one? I should be able to play the match tonight, Shin. I'll sign in around 8:00, then, and I should be on AIM too.
I'm working on one for Des actually, but... the guy has close to 6,000 posts.
Fixed that for you. It's true, though. The epic tale of Desbreko has simply been too great for anyone to tell. I've heard that a couple people tried but were so humbled by the undertaking that they secluded themselves from the world and became monks. -
Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
Desbreko replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
The Tower of Druaga ep1 is all I've watched from spring season so far. It looks like it should be an amusing fantasy/comedy series so I think I'll stick with it. YouTube's high quality stream of it is pretty good, at least as far as streaming video goes. But there's already a 720p HDTV rip with the same subs as the official release floating around.... I got Kanokon ep1, since Ayako is subbing it and I've liked everything else I've seen from them, but I haven't watched it yet. I'll give it a shot at least. Hopefully there won't be too much furriness 'cause that does get old kind of fast. Other than that, I've been watching Maria-sama ga Miteru between new releases. I've finished the first season and right now I'm about half way through the second. The first thing that struck me about the series was how similar it seemed to Strawberry Panic, which I watched a while ago. The second thing that struck me was how Marimite is better in nearly every way. From everything I've been hearing, Shugo Chara! is going to be 51 episodes long. I'm up to ep22, which I need to get around to watching. -

I might actually have to work on a Caramelldansen skin as a little side project. Ideas for color schemes and graphics are popping up fast now that you guys have mentioned it. :animesmil

I could've added the music too. I could've even made it so you couldn't turn it off. However, I hold a strong loathing of auto-playing music on web sites. But don't tempt me. :catgirl:
Next up is Ike You can't hate this guy. He's amazing in so many ways, amazing attack power that sometimes makes up for his speed and jump. Aether is a decent recovery move as well. Online, I'm almost unstoppable when I pick him.
I've noticed that Ike tends to do very well in online matches, both from playing on and against him. If there's much lag it's harder to avoid his big smashes and it makes it more difficult for fast characters to pull off their quick combos. Lag also screws over SHFF aerials pretty bad, which is one of the best ways to land hits on him while avoiding his quick 1-2-3 combo.
Quick geek moment: They jacked the speed on Marth's dancing blade up to Insane. Holy frick, does it feel good to get all four chained in under two seconds.
I've been rocking out Marth's dancing blade combo as well. (Though level 9 CPUs still somehow manage to dodge and grab me in the middle of being hit by the flurry of low stabs. :animesigh) I'm really loving that and the power increase to his counter. It's just a pity that they turned his shield breaker slash into a slow stab; its only saving grace is that its range is longer than all his other attacks. On another note, I guess I should learn Sheik better as well. I'm not terrible with her but I could improve with a bit of practice. I usually never bother transforming unless there's a serious OH SHI— moment where I need to dodge a FS or other huge attack.

So now that the game's been out for a while, what characters are everyone preferring? My primary is still Marth but I use a decent number of other characters too. I thought it would be interesting to sort them into tiers based on how well I play them. 1st tier: Marth Though the gap isn't especially large right now, I'm still better with Marth than anyone else. I love his play style and spend more time on him than any other character so it's unlikely I'll match him with anyone else. 2nd tier: Ike, Link, Samus/ZS Samus, Pikachu Link and Samus are old favorites that I've enjoyed since the original SSB so I know them incredibly well. ZS Samus took some getting used to but I'm fast becoming adept with her. And Pikachu made a major comeback in Brawl which I'm loving since he was my primary in the original SSB. Ike, I fell in love with immediately; being slow and hard-hitting, yet still able to fend off fast characters, is another style of play that I really enjoy and I picked up on his moves and combos incredibly fast. 3rd tier: Mario, Zelda, Lucario, Ganondorf Mario's and Zelda's moves are nearly identical to what they had in Melee (though Zelda got some nice little buffs) so I'm still liking them. Zelda, especially, seems a lot better now and I really enjoy using her; if I can get better with her side-airs she'll probably move up to 2nd tier. Ganondorf, on the other hand, is starting to feel not quite as good as in Melee. Lucario was a pleasant surprise after the suckage that was Mewtwo in Melee and I've steadily been getting better on him. 4th tier: Peach, Toon Link, Captain Falcon, Diddy Kong I'm not that great on these characters but I still enjoy playing them every now and then. Peach is just plain fun to slap people down with and Toon Link is a nice variation on Link who's actually worth using now. Captain Falcon is easier to control than in Melee so now I actually play him again but his attacks also seem a bit weaker and I have a hard time getting KOs. Diddy feels similar to the old Pikachu from SSB but I barely play him since the new Pikachu is worth using again. Characters that I suck with but want to learn better: Sonic, Wolf, Snake, Pit You'll notice I haven't picked up many new characters yet and that's because relearning the subtleties of my old regulars is taking enough time in itself. Wolf reminds me of the old Fox from SSB, who I've missed, so I'd like to get better on him. I can see a lot of potential in Sonic, he's just freaking hard to play well. Snake looks like a lot of fun but, again, he's proving hard to learn. Pit is like some weird Link/Meta Knight hybrid and he's one of the easiest characters to use so I'm interested in seeing how good he can get.

Um ... brightness and contrast screen settings are independent of the images displayed on it. A screen shot taken on a messed up screen will look fine on a properly configured one. So that screen shot looks perfectly normal to me?the Google logo is identical to the one I see when I view the actual web page, for example. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to adjust the screen settings on your laptop. Do you still have the manual for it, or can you look up the manual online? It should tell how to configure that stuff.
I think I'm getting sad that I only have four more episodes left to watch. XP
I felt that way too when the series was nearing the end. But you can look forward to one of the best endings I've ever seen. :animesmil And then there's always the option to watch it again later. Last October I did a marathon of the series and watched all twenty-four episodes in a single day. It was epic.
