Yeah, I wish I'd known that earlier. I used to really enjoy showing people that a skilled Ganondorf player could destroy a mediocre player on a fast character like Fox and it would've given me one more ace up my sleeve. I only ever met one other person who played Ganondorf and most other people thought he sucked. And yes, his side-B is much more useful in the air now. In Melee it barely hit people down at all unless they were at really high percent. In Brawl I can use side-B and down-B as air-to-ground attacks and actually have them be effective. Now that I think about it, that tips the scales in favor of the new side-B.
Well then something really weird is going on with my...whatever is going on. Because all the YouTube videos are the same! A really bad music video. EDIT: Its something to do with Firefox. IE sees the videos just fine. Weird.
Hah, I do believe you've been RollTubed. I miss L-canceling more than anything else. I'd been using it since the original SSB and it just feels odd not to have it in Brawl. It also means I can't use down-airs nearly so liberally. But at least it seems like lag on a lot of other types of moves has been reduced when you land in the middle of them. I don't miss wavedashing terribly much. I was pretty good at it and could do some nasty combos combining wavedashing with SHFFL's on Marth but playing without it hasn't been that hard. Oh, and for doing a smash attack from a running start, you can tap the shield button to stop yourself and then smash immediately after your shield goes down. (Smashing with the C-stick is actually useful now for this since it's easier to get the timing right.) It's not as fast as you could do it in Melee but it's faster than stopping normally and then smashing. Also, a tip for people: Always air dodge when you get launched really fast. It decreases your momentum and keeps you from flying as far. I picked up this trick from playing against level 9 CPU's and it makes a big difference.

Ah, okay, I see what you're saying. I never thought to use his down-B as a recovery move since it makes you fly downward in the air. But if you can keep jumping every time afterwards I can see how that would be worth it. Really though, that sounds more like a bug than an intended feature of the move. And he already has decent recovery ability with his up-B, comparable to that of Link (and even better if you can grab someone with it since that gives you another jump), so I can see why they removed it in Brawl. By the way, I still can't decide whether or not I like his side-B being changed to throw people onto the ground instead of hit them up in the air. Putting them in the air meant you could bring his up-air into play to hit them in nearly any direction you wanted, but throwing them onto the ground means you can do nasty things like a SHFF forward-A as they stand up.

What are you talking about? Ganondorf was never able to jump twice after using his down+B. He's still able to jump once, plus use his up-B, after it in Brawl the same as in Melee. In both you can jump once, use down+B, then jump again, or you can use down+B off an edge and jump once. Ganondorf seems the same speed to me, though, and I just went into training mode in both Brawl and Melee to compare. His neutral-A is slower but more powerful and has longer range, which I've found isn't that bad considering he doesn't flinch as easy anymore and can just smack people with it through little hits. Other than reworking some combos to take into account a few little differences in his moves, I can play him the same as in Melee and do just as well. Also, I like that his up-smash is a single hit now. Way too many times in Melee I'd hit people with the first, weaker hit but they'd get knocked away from the second, stronger hit and then just smack me on the way down. That's no longer a problem in Brawl.

I haven't gotten around to trying out the level editor but I have a feeling I'm going to be spending a lot of time with it in the future. As soon as I finish adventure mode (I'm in the stupid maze right now trying to find the last few doors) I'm going to give it a whirl. I really hope I can recreate the classic Saffron City level from SSB. That was my favorite level in SSB and I was heartbroken when it wasn't included in Melee while crap like Dreamland was.
Just finished. It is a really good game. I haven't really finished any other Metroids yet, despite owning the original and Prime. I think I'll pick up Prime again soon. I've been trying to get most of the canisters on this one, which is mind-numbingly difficult even for some of the ones I have found. One room I am particularly frustrated with. There's not enough room to gain momentum and I have to shinedash the ceiling. I'll probably use a guide.
It's been a while since I played Fusion so I don't remember the exact spot you're talking about. But I'll give you a tip that will most likely lead to the solution: If you shinespark horizontally into a slope in the ground you'll start running again and can then store another shinespark charge. Some of the items in the two GBA Metroids make you get really creative with the shinespark like that.

I'm having a hard time believing that Horo and Lawrence will complete their journey north with only three episodes left. (I've only seen through ep10 so far.) So hopefully there will be a second season rather than rushing things at the end or leaving it hanging with no real conclusion. Or I guess they could take the cop-out method of having Horo up and decide she wants to stay with Lawrence. But that would work so much better if they actually completed the journey and then found she didn't want to leave him. I get the feeling I'd have less speculation if I knew the light novel's story. -

I've been using Lucario off and on. I like him but I need to get the timing of his moves down better. Especially when I'm playing online and there's lag, my timing is off way too often. But, at any rate, he's about ten times better than Mewtwo was and the way he gets more powerful as he takes damage is really cool. While playing a level in adventure mode as him I got up over 200% and was just wasting things left and right because they'd die in one hit before they could attack. It took three of those big energy-ball-with-blades-on things surrounding me to finally KO me. Edit: And speaking of LAN adapters, I got one myself and it's made a noticeable difference in the amount of lag I get compared to using a wireless connection. If anyone's getting bad lag I'd recommend picking one up, provided it's feasible for you to run an ethernet cable to your Wii.
-
Okay, I got a LAN adapter so my connection is as good as it's going to get. Here's my info. Character of choice: Marth Friend Code: 1504-5385-2566 Skill Level: 4 I would put down 5 but I'm not as good in Brawl yet as I am in Melee. :catgirl:

The Wii doesn't have an ethernet port so you'd need a USB LAN adapter to use a wired internet connection. Besides the official one available on Nintendo's online store there's a list of others that work with the Wii. They're cheaper than a wireless router but still around $15-$30.

Pretty much every Smash tournament everywhere has items disabled entirely due to the random advantages they provide. If you want to attract serious players I'd suggest doing the same.

It's not a bandwidth issue that causes the lag, it's ping time. I've played some four-player free-for-alls using the With Anyone option that had less lag than the 1v1 matches that me and Alex have done. Wireless has a lot higher latency than wired connections, which hurts Brawl a lot from what I've been reading. Edit: Well, it doesn't help that our wireless network is pretty crappy and unreliable to begin with. Sometimes it cuts out entirely until the router is rebooted, for example, yet the wired connections remain fine.
-
I'll join in if I can get a LAN adapter and set up a wired connection for my Wii in time, provided that actually helps with the lag. Using my wireless connection has ranged from practically unplayable to downright painful and competing in a tournament like that wouldn't be much fun.
My friend code is 4983-4584-1619. The best time to challenge me (ha, like it'd be a challenge) would probably be some time between 8-11 p.m. PST. That's when I'm online, anyway lol.
We're on daylight time now. Or are you just running an hour early? :p Marth's slightly shorter sword has really been messing with me. So many times I've whiffed smash attacks with the tip scrapping the opponent yet it isn't quite close enough to actually hit. There's a lot of little things like that which add up to make Brawl feel a lot different from Melee even if a character has a nearly identical move set. Some of the most noticeable tweaks are in the game's physics. A lot of little anomalies from Melee are no longer present. There's no more gaining extra horizontal distance with Marth's side+B, or other similar moves, while in the air; short hopping backwards and then doing a move without turning around requires much more precise control where you need to push back the direction you're facing before doing the move; and of course wavedashing is completely dead. The game is overall a little slower than Melee as well so the timing on a lot of things will feel off until you get used to it. Probably my biggest gripe is that L-canceling seems to have been removed completely. So now when you use moves like Link's down-air you better mean it because you always have to deal with the full recovery time when you land. I don't see why they decided to remove it now since it was present in both the original SSB and SSBM. Short hopping was left intact so you can SHFF with moves, which is still useful, but you have to take their full lag time. At the same time, lag after being hit with an attack seems to have been decreased on a lot of moves unless you hit with the sweet spot and air dodging seems to have almost no lag at all when you land in the middle of one. The result is level 9 CPU characters who are stupidly good at dodging (yay for perfect reflexes), not to mention doing perfect shields; pulling off combos on them is proving to be incredibly difficult so far. Finally, having Ai no Uta as background music on the Pikmin level is pure awesome.

From my experience playing the game for around fifteen hours now, I'd say smash balls shouldn't be allowed in serious competitive play. Some characters get a big advantage with their final smash while others have pretty crappy ones and it can really throw off what would otherwise be a balanced match. Some characters also have a lot easier time breaking the smash balls due to the types of attacks they have.

That will do nicely, thanks. There was one pixel width along the left edge that needed to be filled in with yellow but that was an easy tweak that I went ahead and did. All is well now, carry on with the claiming guys. I'm still not able to get the worm updated due to FTP trouble, but my local copy of it is looking great. :animeswea

I read the news when it was first posted on ANN and, since Slayers is one of my favorite series, I'm pretty excited. I've just been lazy in posting about it. :p I just hope they stick with the core characters from the first three TV series. Lina, Gourry, Zelgadis, and Amelia really made the Slayers anime what it was and I never enjoyed the OAVs and movies that only featured Lina and Naga as much. And, of course, I hope they get the same seiyuu for them again—I can't imagine anyone besides Megumi Hayashibara voicing Lina.
