1. Heheh. Remember that AIM conversation we had, oh, four or five months ago, Beth? The one where I laughed maniacally and said I had thought of a great prank? And that it didn't matter that I told you because you still wouldn't see it coming? Well, I'm patient in my plotting and today it paid off. :smirk:
 2.
46- What is it? The Otaku Lounge Description by Boo Why was it nifty? This thread demonstrated that no matter how small or trivial something might seem, if there's enough member support for a change on OB and there's no good reason not to do it, it'll be implemented. -Desbrko
I would like to direct your attention to a previous winner of 2006's Nifty Fifty. :p People who misspell my screen name ?You know, all those people who spell it "Debresko," or something of the like. Yeah, I just wanted to point out the fact that none of them can read and retype worth a damn. Who loves ya, baby?? - Desbreko Overall it's a great list, though I'm also a bit puzzled by the repeat entries. Congrats to everyone who made it in. :animesmil
 3. I watched this a while ago and found it kind of boring. Of course, I did bother to watch it all the way through, so I wouldn't quite say it's terrible. But I can't really recommend it. The main problem I had was that the show seemed almost entirely driven by sexual tension. There was very little actual amusement or cuteness to be had, apart from a few characters I liked. Sure, there were different pairs and complications with them but mostly it was the same theme getting beaten into the ground over and over again, right up to the end. The whole Etoile thing and the story revolving around it seemed pretty stupid to me as well. A petty popularity contest between characters I don't care about, wow! I really don't care. Pretty much every character from Spica annoyed me and about half from Miator did as well; Le Rim seemed like the only one of the three schools not filled with stuck up prudes. Ironically, by steering clear of basically the entire main story the Le Rim characters became my favorites in the series.
 4. Kyon's sister's version of Hare Hare Yukai is almost sickeningly cute sounding. It's the kind of thing that will drive you mad if you listen to it too much, but it makes you want to listen to it anyway. (I swear, that "tehehe" laugh does something to you.) But other than that I didn't find those two characters CDs to be that great. The Yuki and Haruhi character CDs are probably my favorites. And Mikuru's is decent but I prefer Yuko Goto's Shuffle! character songs.
 5. Yeah, I figured anything with decent punch behind it would still make him flinch. Ganondorf in SSBM still flinches from nearly everything other characters do, he just doesn't come off the ground as easily, which lets him walk through light hits to get in his quick jabs and combo into more powerful attacks. I imagine Ike is similar to that, though if really light hits don't make him flinch at all that would be even more awesome since it would make it much easier to stand up to really fast characters. Zero Suit Samus's FS got its own article on the Dojo today. But the biggest piece of information in it is that you can start a match as Zero Suit Samus, and also that you can manually change in the middle of a match. It's a bit ambiguous about whether or not you can switch back to power suit Samus with the second method though.
 6. When I said knockback there I meant when he gets hit. Meaning he doesn't flinch as much or get knocked back as far by attacks. Btw, the C-stick is for nubs. It's faster to just flick the control stick and press A than reach your thumb down to the C-stick. :p
 7.
That's not correct. The fourth down is still the five-stab; all Dojo shows is the initial strike, not the follow-ups.
Dang. I was hoping for a good low, hard hit to smack someone straight out to the side after beating them to the ground with the combo. But I guess the stabs could still be good if they fix the move so it doesn't push people behind you when they get hit by it. I'm really wondering how the lack of wavedashing is going to affect Marth though. In SSBM it added a crazy amount of maneuverability to him which went a long way in making him as good as he is. Though I guess since other characters will no longer be able to do it either it'll balance out. I have a feeling Ike is going to become another favorite of mine. I always loved Ganondorf in SSBM and learned to work around his slowness pretty well. And Ike is sounding similar in play style, with long activation time but high power and low knockback. Only Ike has a sword, which automatically makes him awesome.
 8. Marth is up on the Dojo! They went to pretty great detail explaining his moves compared to most other characters. But, of course, he deserves it. They show images of all nine swings possible with his side+B dancing blade combo. The neutral and up position swings look about the same as in SSBM but they changed the down swings a lot. Instead of the third down being a downward stab we get a wide overhead slash which, while I can see it being really useful as the third swing, is a bit disappointing since I loved spiking people off the edge or bouncing them into the air for a SHFFL combo with the down stab in SSBM. The fourth down is also now a low horizontal slash, replacing the low stabs of the fourth down in SSBM?I can only see this as an improvement because the fourth down was nearly useless before. They also have this to say about his down+B counter move:
Let?s continue. Marth?s counterattack delivers damage at 1.1 times the power of the attack he was hit with and will always do a minimum of 8% damage. Ike?s counter doesn?t go up as quick, but does 1.2 times the damage with a minimum attack power of 10%. Regardless of the damage dealt, counters will not knock back opponents any further than the attack deflected.
This is absolutely freakin' awesome because Marth's counter only ever did about 5-8% in SSBM no matter how hard the blocked hit was and the knockback was also proportionally small. It sounds like they basically buffed his counter to the level of Roy's in SSBM (while hopefully keeping the speed of Marth's) and then made Ike's even more powerful yet still slower like Roy's. This gets a big thumbs up from me since I love Marth's counter but it was underpowered in SSBM given its amount of recovery time if you didn't counter anything.
 9. The OP and ED singles are out. The full length OP is absolutely beautiful and I actually like the instrumental version more. Without the lyrics I think the song sounds even more sad and stirring. Ringo Hiyori, the ED, is still just plain weird. The full version makes even less sense. I've only seen through ep3 so far because I've been waiting for Ayako's 720p releases. I hope they get ep4 out soon because I'm loving the series more with each new episode. I actually happen to find economics interesting, and watching Horo casually outclass Lawrence is great fun. But I'm really curious what sort of role the church is going to play in the series.
 10. I just checked in my version of Photoshop and it says it's RGB 124,124,124 all the way down at the edge except where there's jpg artifacting.
 11.
^ my girlfriend put my hair in pigtails while I was jamming on GH.
That's happened to me as well. Only it was someone else's girlfriend and they were braided. :animesigh No, I don't have pics of it.
 12. Captain Falcon seriously should've jumped out of the Blue Falcon and done a huge Falcon Punch as he raced by during his FS. That would've been so much more awesome than simply running the person down. A few of the FS's seem pretty underwhelming though. Ness's and Lucas's especially; they looked pretty awesome on the Dojo but when I see them in action they look like crap. There simply weren't enough fireballs coming down, which will make it far too easy to dodge them. Compared to ones like Marth's, Link's, Zelda/Sheik's, etc., that are basically one hit kills no matter what percent someone is at, a lot of others just don't seem to stack up. I couldn't even really follow what was happening during Luigi's FS.
 13.
Ace, really now? its kinda hard to detect sarcasm from an written post with no words standing out.
Yeah, seriously. I mean, everyone knows about the secret video editing options in Photoshop.
Nintendo is officially awesome.
Mmm, I like. Simple, elegant, but oh-so-deadly. I do believe Marth's final smash suits him perfectly and I'm going to love flying across the level to tear people up with it. I'm also liking that, from what I've seen, his move set looks pretty much unchanged from SSBM. Though I'm annoyed that wavedashing and SHFFLing are no longer possible in SSBB from what I've been hearing, since those two things added a whole extra layer of awesome to Marth.
 14.
And it just dawned on me. Captain Falcons final smash is going to be epic. Just imagine "FAAALCOOON SMAAASH!!!!" Oh yes. There will be blood. >:3
I found a video of Captain Falcon's final smash. It's totally awesome. :o
But seriously, if it's not a supercharged Falcon Punch I'm going to be disappointed. You just can't beat the Falcon Punch.

 15. Indeed, I was referring to Gecko's posts rather than yours, sothis. I realize you haven't been arguing for us to change our limits and that you mentioned different sizes being in the works. Sorry if my post was a little confusing.
 16. What is it? [thread=57786]What are You Watching/Reading Now?[/thread] by 2008DigitalBoy Why was it nifty? This is a handy thread for quick comments about anime/manga that people are currently watching and reading. Posts are usually short and sweet and provide people with impressions of the animes/mangas without them having to wade through a full blown discussion of the series. It's probably the best thread currently on OB for finding both new and old series that you might enjoy. What is it? OtakuBoards Graphic Worm Why was it nifty? The graphic worm has got to be one of the coolest things to come out of the Art Studio. It grew (figuratively and literally) from a little member-run thread struggling to find hosting for the images to an official part of the OB Network and is now one of the most successful collaborative graphics projects on the site. What is it? [thread=57950]The Otaku Lounge Description[/thread] by Boo Why was it nifty? This thread demonstrated that no matter how small or trivial something might seem, if there's enough member support for a change on OB and there's no good reason not to do it, it'll be implemented. What is it? vB 3.6.7 upgrade Why was it nifty? Simply the change in version number, upgrading from vB 3.0.3 to 3.6.7, should tell you that this was a huge update to our forum software. Many new features were added and others improved upon to make both posting and moderating smoother and easier. The transition was a bit bumpy and it was a lot of work but the end result was loved by all. What is it? [thread=57362]Guide To Becoming An Internet Superstar At OtakuBoards - An Essay[/thread] by DeadSeraphim Why was it nifty? This was one of the best uses of satire on the site ever, even being immortalized in its own Otakupedia article. In the thread Alan (aka DeadSeraphim) set forth ways of gaining quick popularity on OB and others quickly joined in with their own methods, many of them using tongue-in-cheek humor to mock the various cliques and clichés that have appeared on the site over the years. What is it? Konata Why was it nifty? Konata is an all around awesome member and one of the best to find their way to OB in 2007. She's intelligent, funny, and realizes that internets r srs biznis. She was also honored as Member of the Month in the second issue of the Otaku Times.
 17.
That's cool. Now anyone who wants to use that sig can adopt Desbreko's mod. It doesn't look too far different from the original either. Don't say they ain't looking out for ya. ^_^;
That's just a mock-up to suggest a possible design change. It's a static image and won't dynamically update like the real ones. To make it actually work sothis would have to edit the image generation script on Anime-Planet. My point was simply that there's a lot that can be done with different sizes and designs for the signatures, both to allow them to fit within different size limits and to give people more choices. And I think that's a much better solution than making only one size and expecting other sites' rules to conform to it.
 18.
I was absolutely certain I couldn't write creatively all through high school, but when confronted with a fanfic concept by my sister, I quickly uncovered a hidden talent within myself. So, don't decide you can't do it until after you've spent months on something you truly enjoy thinking and writing about, and if after that you it still isn't just flowing from you, then, yeah you probably just don't have the knack.
Well, it's not that I can't write creatively. I sometimes get bursts of inspiration and I can act on those. But I'm not naturally creative; I can't just sit down and go, "Okay, I'm going to work out a plot for this story concept I have." I have to wait for good ideas to come to mind or else my writing is aimless and those ideas are pretty rare. My DailyOtaku fanfic is a good example of this since I've only managed to write six issues in the four years it's been around yet what I have written has gotten a lot of compliments. The same is true of working with graphics. I'm decent at editing but when it comes to original compositions I'm usually pretty lost even if I have a subject I want to work with. And this is something I've discovered over the last six or so years, so it's not exactly a sudden decision.
 19.
And so are for you asking a forum to change solely for the one signature. I mean why go through all the hassle? It's not exactly the greatest thing in the world, nor does anyone generally care how much anime you've watched.
Let's keep clear of personal insults, okay? Saying that you think an idea is stupid and saying that another person is stupid are two different things. Any more posts falling under the second category will be deleted.
 20.
*Shakes Des's hand* Congratulations, your prayers have been answered, sir. What are you going to do next?
More like I totally called it from the start, but whatever. I'm just happy that
Marth
is indeed returning. And I'm going to whoop you all with him come March 9. That screen shot looks more legit than most others I've been seeing. All the character models look real and not pasted in from other games as far as I can tell. The only thing that looks off to me is that Lucario isn't in the same column as Pikachu and the Pokémon Trainer, and Bowser isn't with the other Mario Bros. characters. But that could just be due to characters getting shuffled around as new ones are unlocked, like in SSBM.
 21. I think the best solution here is for the A-P signatures to be made available in multiple sizes. And I'm not just saying this because I don't think we should ever increase the max image size here at OB. A lot of the most popular image scripts like this that I've seen come in a variety of sizes, to suit both different signature restrictions and size preferences. People like options and the sigs are more likely to be used if people can pick from different designs and sizes to suit their tastes. For example, even the small tweak as in my mock-up below, where I removed the top black bar and reworked the URL/user name line, makes the signature a lot more appealing to me. And, incidentally, it also now fits within our size limit.
 22.
NOO it's not as good as Kamichu! but then Kamichu! is in my top 10 alltime favorite anime, however ichigo Mashimaro is a very different experience from that altogether. If you like it, be sure to check out Minami-ke which is by the same people.
Personally I liked Ichigo Mashimaro (and Minami-ke for that matter) more than Kamichu!. Kamichu! was a charming little series but it doesn't have much lasting appeal to me; I already know what Yurie is capable of so watching her discover that a for second time isn't going to be nearly as interesting. I doubt I'd watch it again unless it's together with other people. Ichigo Mashimaro, on the other hand, actually made me go find the manga and parts I'd already seen in the anime remain fun the second time. Cute and funny has remained cute and funny with little change in how entertaining it is and I can even see myself watching the anime series and OAV again some time down the road.
 23. The only thing that comes to mind are the dolphins from the Vanilla Secret 3 level in Super Mario World but those were blue not orange.
 24. The problem is that a lot of people have banners that they want to use but that exceed the size limits. If we accommodated all requests like this we'd end up with a limit of 575x500 or something crazy like that. "It's only ten more pixels," adds up, you know? If this gets enough support we might consider upping the limit to 550x130 but if it's only a few people that would use these signatures then it's probably not going to happen.
 25. I have a talent for the Subtlety. It's dark green and silver. I'm talented at most video games and a lot of other stuff that requires good hand-eye coordination. I can pick up most games for the first time and usually at least do above average for a beginner. And if I care to spend the time and effort I can get really freakin' good. Click the Game Videos link in my signature if you want to see examples. I also have a talent for writing, though I have more trouble writing under pressure or about things I don't have any interest in?so that one only goes so far. I'm mainly good at expressing things clearly, so that they're easily understood, rather than creating stories. Not that I can't write narrative, I just lack the creativity inherent in creative writing. I'm pretty good at understanding horribly typed posts (including most leet speak :o) but I'm not sure if that's something I should be proud of. And, uh ... I'm awesome?
