This thing constantly happens to me on Facebook, I assume it has to do with the temporary files on your computer, try pressing Ctrl + F5 in Firefox (I think it's Shift instead of Ctrl in IE).
What he said. It's Ctrl+F5 in both Firefox and IE, but if you click the reload button in Firefox instead of pushing F5 you have to hold in Shift instead of Ctrl. What this does is reload the entire page from the server, which refreshes your cached images. If that doesn't work, try clearing your entire cache (or temporary internet files in IE).

Something people always fail to mention when making the, "Wal-Mart destroys small business jobs," argument is that a Wal-Mart opening up in town also creates a whole lot of new jobs at the same time. And I've yet to see anyone making that argument actually give hard numbers for the number of jobs lost vs the number created. Personally, I don't see how anyone can think that doing business more efficiently and thus being able to charge lower prices is a bad thing for the economy. Yeah, it sucks for some individuals who can't compete, but the population as a whole benefits by having more money to spend elsewhere. It seems to me that arguing that Wal-Mart is bad for the economy as a whole is, in effect, arguing that being wasteful is a good thing.

I got to play Rock Band a few days ago at a friend's birthday party (another friend had gotten it for Christmas and brought it with him) and it was awesome. We only had one guitar so we couldn't get four people playing at once but it was still great fun all around. I mainly played guitar since that's what I was best at. I think I impressed people, coming in and immediately playing on medium and then telling them I'd only had about two or three hours of experience with Guitar Hero II before that. Though I immediately noticed that medium in Rock Band was not as hard as medium in GH, rocking out on guitar while friends were playing drums and doing vocals was a blast. I also played a few songs on the drums (on easy), which was fun but I wasn't that great starting out. I was nowhere near as good as I was on guitar the first time I played GH, at any rate, though I finished the song without failing. I could keep a steady rhythm, it was just getting the timing down that was hard. So I'd be consistent but I'd be consistently off by just a bit and would miss notes. I'd really like to get some more time on the drums. As for vocals, I failed horribly at singing Bon Jovi's Wanted Dead or Alive. I don't know what it was but I couldn't get the game to register changes in the pitch of my voice. The arrow would just stick at the same level it appeared at when I started a word and would barely move until I stopped and let it disappear before singing again. Basically I got it right the first time or I missed entirely, which didn't work out too well. It was working fine for everyone else but, seriously, my vocal range isn't that narrow. :animesigh

I don't really snack much, I just drink coffee or tea all the time. It's not exactly food but it keeps things flowing. Occasionally I'll cook a packet of ramen (you're not alone in disliking the cup ramen DB), eat a banana, or grab some chips as a snack but not often. The exception is when there's something I particularly like sitting around that can easily be eaten while I'm doing something else. Such as right now, I'm slowly working on a box of Thin Mints that I got from Christmas. As far as candy goes, though, M&Ms are the main culprit; it's deceptively easy to eat way too many of those things together with a few cups of coffee while I'm doing stuff on my PC.

I don't like the idea of splitting up anime by genre because, like Dagger said, most series draw from a few different genres. I think the result would be people creating duplicate threads in different forums depending on which genre they see as dominant. I also don't really like splitting by time or license status, though I think it would be better than by genre. I think it would just create confusion for members who don't always stay on top of the news and also more work for moderators to shift threads around. If we're going to split things up into multiple forums I think it needs to be readily apparent where one will be able to find threads about a certain series. No one wants to have to do research or hunt through multiple forums just to find a thread. So far I prefer James's idea of creating series-specific forums that would just be permanent, provided they got enough activity. Merging once-popular forums back into Anime Central after their time is up would create a disorganized mess of out of context threads. However, I do think having members vote on which series they want to get forums is a good idea. A setup I could see working well is having a main forum for the voting and whatnot, and within that have sub-forums for the series.

I'd never cared to spend any money on merchandise, other than a few Pokémon plushies I got back in 2000 for a few dollars each. (I still have them sitting around my room though.) That is, until I watched Aria. Now I have this on pre-order from ToysLogic: It comes out at the end of the month. Having a foot tall Aria-shachou plushie is going to be so awesome. :catgirl: I do enjoy ogling figures and plushies online every now and then but I don't really know where I'd put most of them even if I had the money to buy them. I have stuff occupying nearly every flat surface in my room other than the floor. I have room for posters but those have never interested me as much.

I had a feeling it might get delayed again. Not too surprising. Sheik's new character model looks pretty badass, I gotta say. But I have to wonder why there was a design drafted of her for Twilight Princess. Were they originally planning on another Sheik character being in the game...? Anyway, I now want to see (or better yet, be a part of) a match between Sheik, Snake, Zero Suit Samus, and Captain Falcon. It would be an epic war of skin tight clothing.

This was actually discussed at length in James's last [thread=57798]OB Survey[/thread] thread. Personally, I don't favor moving back to the multiple forum format but I do think allowing multiple threads about a series within our single anime forum is a good idea.

Something I'd love to do some time is randomly show up at a moderator's home and when they open the door yell, "You're fired!" then slap a "BANNED" sticker on them. Preferably early in the morning. I'd also love to go down to Anime Expo and meet up with everyone from OB and theOtaku there but I've never been able to.
Forgive me if the OB decided every post had to be quality XD. I can match a weeks worth of OB posts with a day's worth on Megatokyo because of that fact alone, lol.
You would've fit right in during version 3. Actually, it's kind of scary to think what you would've been like in the Padded Room Party. :nervous:
Question though...what did happen to White? I must be filled in.
He's still around as 8bit, though not as active anymore. Check out Otaku Idol 2 in the Convention Center forum to see his rise to Event Master (and a juicy bit of drama). His decline and fall is only documented in the staff forum though. ;) Anyway, I remember back in Summer of 2002 I was away from OB for about a month straight. Or should I say, OB was away from me and, in fact, everyone. There was some trouble during the transition between versions 4 and 5, I believe, which caused the downtime. But that's the longest hiatus I've experienced.

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
Desbreko replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
I think this was the best part of H2O ep2. I'm not sure if I'll stick with the series but I'll give it a couple more episodes at least. Or maybe it will just end up piggybacking on True Tears since I'm getting both from the same group. I'm still feeling abandoned since you went to 4:3 Clannad, by the way. :animecry: -
Notice: Be sure to post entries as .jpg or .gif files. Otherwise we'll have the same problems as last time, where some pieces didn't quite look right, because the colours turned out differently than they thought them to be.
Indeed. I've been converting all submissions in png format to jpg (or gif on the rare occasion that gif is actually better). Also, for anyone who uses png for web graphics, I'd like to point you to the Wikipedia page for png. I've noticed a lot of people on OB using png when jpg would be a better choice, or using png but not using appropriate compression settings so that they end up with a needlessly huge file. The page also lists a few png compression programs that will stop them from displaying incorrect colors in IE. Educate thyself!

Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (aka season 2) ep1 is the most beautiful train wreck of insanity I have ever seen. I think the animation has actually surpassed the first season's. My beautiful Kiri is looking splendid. An odd thing about it, though, is that it introduces Nami Hitou (the normal girl) as if she hadn't appeared before. This is inconsistent with the first season but I noticed that in the Zetsubou Girls Collection special (or at least the twenty minute version that was broadcast), Nami doesn't appear in one scene whereas she did appear in the that scene in the first season's ep1. (It's the one where Nozomu first walks into the classroom and there are shots of a few of the girls.) And near the start of the Zetsubou Girls Collection special it seems to suggest that it's the way it was originally (in the manga?), with the message, "There were a number of inappropriate comments that the original creator's originality should be respected and we should broadcast the way it was published." So I guess season 2 is following the manga more closely or something. Edit: I got both SpoonSubs's and a.f.k.'s releases and I'd recommend SpoonSubs's. They encode in h.264 so you get better video quality in a smaller file, plus soft subs (though on-screen text is still hard subbed.) I also like their translation a little more. They didn't translate each and every bit of on-screen text, unlike a.f.k., but all the important text and most of the rest was translated. I wouldn't call either release perfect but SpoonSubs has a slight advantage in my opinion.

Anime The anime here in america...is it getting childish?

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
Desbreko replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
I grabbed the first episode of Spice and Wolf yesterday. As I commented on Fasteriskhead's myOtaku, I figured I'd either really like it or find it really stupid. Thankfully it looks like it will turn out to be the former. The first episode handles character and setting introductions nicely and it looks like it will be a fun and interesting series. The character designs and backgrounds are all pretty, too, which is definitely a plus. I'm really liking the look of the series so here's to hoping it stays pretty throughout. The ED song is really weird, by the way. It's in English (but doesn't mangle the pronunciation thankfully) and makes little sense. Accompanying it are odd little illustrations of Lawrence and Horo, such as this. I'm not sure what to think of it. I just can't help but wonder whether I'd take meeting a naked wolf girl in the back of my wagon better or worse than Lawrence did. -
There is no single best place online to buy anime. Finding good prices requires shopping around, the same as buying something locally. To that end, Google and PriceGrabber should do you well. Anyway, as Fasteriskhead pointed out with his link to the Anime Central guidelines, I'm going to close this thread. Happy hunting.

This thread is made of awesome and win but there's just one little problem: I don't like pie. So, uh, use that detail as you will. :animeswea

I hit red+blue the same way, Shin. Message in a Bottle on medium has a couple sections where it switches back and forth between stretches of green+yellow notes and red+blue notes (and then ends with a yellow+blue long note, which would throw me off :animestun) and it took me a few practice runs to get the hang of it. Like with everything else I encountered, though, I just memorized how the finger positions for those note combos felt and got so I could do them without having to think about it much; gotta love muscle memory. That orange button scares me though. I think getting used to sliding my hand up and down to reach different buttons instead of pressing them with only one set finger will be the hardest thing for me to learn. Mainly because it will require memorizing a whole new set of finger positions for when my hand is slid down to reach the orange button.

At this point I figure I'll just buy GHII on the PS2 since there've been game+guitar sets for only $57 on eBay and then I can pick up the standalone version of GHIII on the PS2 later if I want and my guitar controller will be compatible with both. $57+$50 would only be $17 more than I'd have to pay for the GHIII+guitar set for the Wii and I'd be getting two of the games. In other news, I can't stop listening to Message in a Bottle now. :animestun

Well crap, I just did a little research and apparently the Wii version only outputs mono sound. If that doesn't get fixed I'll probably just get it, or maybe the cheaper GHII, for the PS2 instead since I don't have a PS3 or Xbox 360. No online play or downloadable content would suck but I think mono sound would suck more. I really don't care about the graphics though. It's not like I'm looking at the characters while I'm playing anyway.

Yeah, I get all that. The cartoon image obviously isn't harmful at all. I'm just saying that if we're going to honor requests to remove people's pictures but then turn around and still use their face in other images, that seems a bit hypocritical. Regardless of reason or other circumstances, the face is still recognizably theirs and I think they have as much right to request that it be removed as a full picture. Edit: OMG stealth edit. :o Looks like this post was unnecessary.

I have discovered the awesome that is Guitar Hero. Of course I've known about the game since the first one was released but I'd never played it and wasn't especially interested. But we got one of my brothers a PS2 and Guitar Hero II for Christmas and so I naturally got a few turns with it before he had to go back home to the bay area. Even while watching my brothers play I was still skeptical at first about whether I'd like it or not, but when I sat down and actually played for myself it just sort of clicked. Before the first song had ended I was tapping my foot as I played and timing my strumming by the beat as much as the on-screen notes. I'm the type who sits at my PC and taps along to the beats, riffs, and vocals of songs?whether with my feet or fingers?while I'm reading and listening to the music at the same time, and Guitar Hero seemed like the next step up from doing that. I loved it. It's nothing to really brag about, but I'm a bit proud of being able to play Message in a Bottle (my favorite song out of the ones we had available) on medium and get 95% after only playing the game for a couple hours. That was kind of a goal I wanted to achieve before my brother had to leave and I wouldn't be able to play it anymore. :toothy: Come January 21st it's going to be a tough decision whether or not to buy Guitar Hero III for the Wii. I'm looking to rebuild my PC and Smash Bros. Brawl is also coming out only a few weeks later.... So much awesome, so little money.

I can see where you're coming from about the cartoon image, Charles, but it seems to me like there's not much point in removing the full image of him if we leave his face displayed in the cartoon. Since the face is by far the most important feature in a picture of someone.

That would be the problem, then. The max size for avatars is 150x80, so it's 20 pixels too tall. As such, it's getting resized by the board and loses the animation (and the transparency) in the process. Here's a resized 80x80 version if you want to use it:
