1. Animated avatars are allowed (I just went and checked the settings again), though they still have to be 50 kB or under. If the gif you're trying to use meets the size requirements, I'm not sure why the animation isn't working. Can you post it so I can take a look at it?
2. Ah, okay, I remember seeing that banner now. Considering that Group Sounds is dead now, there's not even any point to it anymore so whoever's using it would probably remove it if asked.
3. Well, I guess James is actually away and won't be back for a few days. So I'll take the reigns on this issue then. I also think it's fair to remove images of people if they request it, simply out of courtesy, so removing the mock-up with your face, as well as your real name, is fine with me. Though I don't actually have access to Otakupedia so I'll have to ask Charles to do that. Unless the signature is explicitly derogatory (I can't recall seeing it), though, we wouldn't really have any grounds for removing it. And I'd really rather not set a precedent of policing signatures based on whatever another member happens to dislike. So you'll probably have to take it up with that member specifically and ask them to remove it.
4. I'll probably sit around playing games and watching anime unless my friends want to go do something. Though that something would likely be sitting around, playing games and watching anime, just together. If I'm by myself I'll log into Guild Wars at midnight for the first Wintersday finale event of the day. They happen every three hours on the 1st, starting at midnight. BSing with guild mates and getting my character drunk at the holiday events is always amusing.
5. Just because a character hasn't been shown on Smash Bros. Dojo doesn't mean they won't return in SSBB. I'm betting most of the SSBM characters will be returning, considering that all of the SSB characters made the jump to SSBM before.
6. James is around, he just has a busy schedule. I'm sure he'll respond as soon as he has time. As for where the picture was taken from, I believe Kevin himself posted it in OB's picture forum back when that still existed. It's also up on my old OB Picture Archive site and I got all of the pictures for that either from the picture forum or from people sending them to me over AIM.
7. I myself don't really care whether the images stay or get taken down (I guess that's up to James), but are you sure it's actually illegal to use someone's picture without their consent? (For a non-profit, non-endorsement purpose mind you, since we're not making any money off OB or Otakupedia.) Like, can you point to an actual law or court precedent? Because I'd think a lot more tabloids and such would get sued over that if it were. I'm pretty sure the same applies to using the Anime Explosion name and AE Boards logo. We're not using them for profit or as any type of endorsement and the image is low resolution so I'm pretty sure it would fall under fair use. However, I think that deleting the article entirely and acting like nothing ever happened is a bit much. I really doubt the article itself is the source of any ill will directed towards you, Kevin. And like Shy said, you can even contribute yourself and submit an addition to the article that tells how Anime Explosion and AE Boards have progressed since then.
8. I got $240 to put towards rebuilding my PC, which should help considerably. My birthday's also coming up so whatever I get from that will be added up and I should have enough to put together a pretty decent system. I haven't shopped around for specifics yet since I'm not sure what exactly I'll be able to afford, but I'd like to get an Intel Core 2 CPU, probably an nForce motherboard, and probably a GeForce 7600 or 7800 series graphics card. I may also need to get a new power supply. Besides that I got a nice insulated vest, a new pair of jeans, some canned air (for removing dust from my PC case), and some cleaning wipes that are safe to use on electronics. And, as usual, a bunch of candy, not the least of which were two half-pound bars of Hershey's milk chocolate with almonds. All in all, it was a pretty good haul this year.
9. Care to explain how? I'm pretty sure there's no code you could put in the introduction or posts that could effect the comment popup. And I know that you can't put anything besides some basic HTML tags in comments themselves.
10.
and american "anime" has turned a bit childish in my opinion, and little 8 year old girls are taking over the world.
Disclaimer: Image posts are jokes, don't take them seriously.
11. Well, yeah, but that's still an automated e-mail sent by OB itself. If the standard lost password e-mail can't get through then I doubt using the admin cp to send one will make any difference. But I guess I can give it a shot anyway.
12. :animeblus E-mail me the full res version plz. The Motteke! Sailor Fuku Re-Mix002 album was released recently (yeah, I didn't think the 001 on the first one meant anything either, but I'm not complaining) and its cover art is pretty awesome. Konata's outfit reminds me of Sora's from Kaleido Star when she's doing the Angel Act. Also reduced resolution from the original scan and with a blur filter run on it to smooth the colors out:
13. OB is sending out e-mails fine. I just had it send me a test e-mail and it arrived promptly. Passwords are encrypted in the database, though, so there's no way I can retrieve it for you. The only thing I'd be able to do is change your password to something else and then send you an e-mail with the new one myself.
14. Add a bgcolor="color" attribute to the table tag and you should be good. Even if you're using an image background it's good to include a background color similar to that of the image in case the image doesn't load. That way your text won't end up unreadable if you're using a light font color against a dark background or something like that.
15. That's why I've held off on getting ep11 until a.f.k. releases it, yeah. The other groups just aren't doing as good a job with it. But if some other group does do a decent job with the second season it'll be really tempting. Pani Poni Dash! turned out pretty good though. A lot of the chalkboard stuff wasn't translated in the episodes themselves but the pdf files that gg included with them had everything translated. I think that was mainly due to the text being crammed in so tightly that there wasn't room to fit translations in too.
16. Awesome, yes, but still crazy. It's hard to resist the walking pillar of moe that is Yutaka, but I think Hiyori is actually my favorite of the first-year students. My favorite scene with her was when she was trying to stop Konata from letting Yutaka read her work. Watching her get so panicked as her worlds started to collide was great.
17. I don't think I replied to the fall season thread but I did find it helpful. The main three that I'm looking forward to right now are Aria the Origination, Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, and Minami-ke. Aria totally caught me off guard with how much I ended up loving it, so now I'm dying to see the next season. The little hints in the last episode of Aria the Natural
that the girls might be nearing the Prima test
made me go a bit crazy.... As for Zetsubou Sensei, I don't think I'm going to watch the second season until I can finish the first (assuming someone besides a.f.k. picks it up). But I still want more. I picked up Minami-ke just recently but I'm really liking it, so naturally I'm interested in the second season. Though ANN has it listed as an alternate retelling and I haven't heard much else about it so I'm not sure if it'll actually be a continuation of the first season. I'll most likely pick up a few more series once things start being released, but I liked the wait-and-see approach I took for the fall season. Once more info and some impressions start rolling in I'll try out whatever sounds interesting.
18. Well, you have to admit that Hiyori is kind of crazy. Whether that's normal among the doujin community is another matter. :p
19. Did I make you one before too? I mainly made this one to spoof the Pedo Bear Seal of Approval. And I gotta say, it's kind of scary how well it worked. The Amulet Clover character transformation, with Amu's pink hair up in the pigtails together with the green outfit, was entirely too cute by the way. Always just doing Amulet Heart with Ran was getting a bit old. I hope Miki and Su keep getting more attention since I find them a lot more entertaining.
20. I went ahead and got episodes four and five anyway and they were thankfully much better. There wasn't nearly as much to censor in them. It seems like episodes that don't rely on physical humor make it through okay. Surprisingly, the pool episode was not filled with fanservice.
21. I've picked up yet another show this season. It's kind of late, since there are only three episodes left in this season, but whatever. Right now I'm going through back episodes of Minami-ke and have seen through ep5 of the 10 currently released. It's a weird little slice of life comedy. As the opening of each episode says, "This is just a plain depiction of the days of the lives of the three Minami sisters. Please don't expect too much." And really, that's about it, but simply watching the three sisters' personalities bounce off each other is amusing. I think watching Chiaki (the youngest sister) screwing with Kana's (the middle sister) head is my favorite part. Though, of course, Kana gets back in her own ways—like rolling Chiaki in a sheet and hanging her from a pole to make her act as a teruterubouzu (a charm to make rain stop). It's weird but also fairly believable, which only makes it more funny. I've also been watching Death Note in between new releases. So far I've seen through ep9 but because the show is pretty much entirely dialogue based, at least so far, it seems like a lot more than that. Maybe it's because I haven't watched anything that's actually made me think in a while, but it almost seems tiring to watch more than two or three episodes in a row. It's been very interesting though; I like it. I'm also wondering how it's going to last through all 37 episodes. Things have seemed to progress very quickly in just the nine that I've seen.
22. I'm not sure. The inclusion of Lucas makes it seem like they might not include Ness this time around. But they also make a big deal of the differences between Lucas' and Ness' moves, so that could be taken to mean Ness will appear as well. Now that I think about it, I can't recall if Ness has been shown in any Brawl screen shots or not. I can't wait to use the line, "Hey baby, wanna beat all event matches?"
23.
Netflix has cut down quite a bit on the number of fansubs I watch. Even if I like the first few episodes of a show, I've grown more likely to run out of time or temporarily lose interest and tell myself that I'll just rent the first disc when it gets licensed.
I would use Netflix to watch more anime (I saw His and Her Circumstances through Netflix) except that fansubs are still just way more convenient for me. I can go disc-by-disc ... or I can grab the entire series at once. And if I care to rip the discs to my hard drive to watch later, that ends up taking way more space than fansubs since each DVD is usually close to 8 GB whereas an entire 26 episode series rarely surpasses 7 GB for nearly the same quality (especially if it's encoded in h.264). Or if I burn them again, it either takes way more discs to store them or it takes really long to encode them into a better format. Basically, I just don't like DVD-Videos. The MPEG-2 standard that they use is outdated. I'd rather have the straight video files encoded in a newer format and burned as a DVD-ROM since I use my PC to watch DVDs anyway. That also means I don't have to wade through menus or previews or any crap like that to access the episodes and select the language and subtitle streams that I want. So to answer the original question, yes, I watch fansubs. I watch quite a lot of them because I like their format a lot more than official DVDs and I simply don't have much money. (It's hard to justify spending the small amount I have on anime that's in a format I don't want.) Right now I'm mainly keeping up with some of the current fall season shows such as Clannad, Kodomo no Jikan, Shugo Chara!, Bamboo Blade, and others.
24. Is it just me or was anyone else wanting to see Haruka and Seiko get together? I kept expecting there to at least be some hints towards that but there never were, which was kind of disappointing. On one hand they seem like a good match; on the other, knowing
Seiko is actually a guy
made it seem a bit weird because I usually don't go for that kind of thing.
25. I don't really care whether or not people think broadcast order is better, but that's the way the series was originally meant to be viewed. And I find that its presentation and pacing is smoother in broadcast order, with the exception of an episode being stuck between the two Remote Island Syndrome episodes. (And even that builds curiosity to make you want to know what happens next.) Someday in the Rain also makes for a very anticlimactic ending. If you ever re-watch the series, I'd recommend trying broadcast order to see the differences in presentation. I went the other way around—broadcast first, then DVD order—and it was interesting.
