Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
Desbreko replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
Haruhi episodes were aired in a very different order from the order on the DVDs and thus there is both broadcast order and DVD order for watching them. The DVDs show episodes chronologically, with the exception of episode 00 still being shown first, whereas broadcast order skips around in time to give you different bits and pieces of information and finally puts everything together with a proper ending. Personally, I prefer broadcast order and most people I've talked to do as well. ANN's episode list for the series lists the episodes in broadcast order and also has notes to show chronological order. -
Do you mean on myOtaku, or OtakuBoards? This is a thread for myOtaku suggestions but as far as I know myOtaku doesn't have any preset avatars to choose from. If you mean here on OB then it's pretty much up to members to post them in the [thread=37977]Avatar Submission Thread[/thread]. I've never seen Yu-Gi-Oh, so I haven't made any avatars for the series, but you and others are welcome to submit some in the thread. Just remember to follow the rules in the first post when submitting avatars.

Anime What three things from anime would you like to have and why?
Desbreko replied to Aaryanna's topic in Otaku Central
DB, I'm surprised you didn't list the curse of the Spring of Drowned Girl. :p As for myself.... 1. Sylphiel Nels Rada's aptitude for white magic and the Dragon Slave spell. It was a hard choice between this and Lina Inverse's wide range of black magic, but white magic just fits my style better. (And it would be more practical.) Plus I'd still have the Dragon Slave if I really wanted to go all out. 2. Saito Hiraga's Gandalfr ability to use any weapon skillfully. Besides just being really freakin' awesome, it would complement my white magic as a source of offensive power. 3. Aria-shachou (President Aria), because he's got to be the smartest and funniest cat ever. I can't think of any other pet I'd rather have. -
OtakuBoards has affected me in quite a few ways, the biggest of which is probably my writing (which I imagine is going to be a common thing mentioned in this thread). Though I knew (mostly) proper spelling and grammar when I first joined, I didn't use them much—or at least not grammar. If you look back far enough in my posts you'll come to a point where I didn't even capitalize my I's. While reading was another large influence, being on OB and posting nearly every day provided a lot of practical experience in making my writing clear and comprehensible. Hanging around OB has also helped me learn to debate. I'm much better at seeing logical fallacies and carrying arguments to their logical conclusion to see if they hold up than when I joined, as well as simply presenting arguments clearly. Following (and taking part in a few) debates on OB has definitely played a role in that. Finally, it made me more open minded. After living thirteen rather sheltered years, home-schooled in a Christian home (not that I find anything wrong with how I was raised, that's just how it was), I began using the internet regularly. Since OB has long been one of my most visited sites on the net it naturally played a large role in introducing me to different points of view that I'd never considered before.

I've seen a few clips and trailers so far, thanks for linking those. It looks so awesome, I can't wait for it to be released in the US. (The Japanese release is December 20 so hopefully we'll see it by mid 2008.) It's pretty awesome that they're doing voice acting for it, though I just hope we get an option for Japanese voices with English subtitles. All the characters that I've heard so far sound great and pretty much how I've imagined them. I think it's going to add a lot to the game to have it fully voiced. By the way, I'm loving how true the character designs have stayed to the concept art that Yoshitaka Amano made for the original game. Paladin Cecil facing off against dark knight Cecil in that trailer was badass. FFIV's core battle system isn't terribly different from FFIII, except for the fact that FFIV uses the ATB system. So if you set it to active the monsters will actually beat on you if you sit there without doing anything. FFIV doesn't use the job system, though; instead each character has a set class. But to balance that out you get a pretty wide variety of characters joining (and leaving) your party throughout the game. In FFIV Advance you could also then choose to swap out characters for ones that had previously left the party once you get near the end of the game, which I imagine will also be in the DS remake as well. Personally, I like FFIV's class system more than FFIII's, where you're stuck with the same four characters through the entire game.

Final Fantasy IV is getting a direct sequel. Yes, FFIV being my favorite in the series, I was overjoyed; I've always thought that FFIV's story had a lot of potential for a good sequel. Until I read one little line that killed my hope of ever getting to play it: "...appears to be mobile exclusive." The joy has turned to rage now since that means the game will probably never see release in the US. I really hope the 3D remake of FFIV on the DS sells well enough in the US that maybe, just maybe Square Enix will consider porting The After to the DS over here.
It's hard to explain, but I have to admit that this anime has wormed its way into my all-time top five.
I know what you mean. I finished Aria the Natural last night and watched the OAV earlier today and it's trying to do the same thing with me. It'll be hard for it to oust Cardcaptor Sakura from the #5 spot but it just might manage it. I can't wait for Aria the Origination to start airing come January. I haven't looked forward to an anime this much since I was waiting for new episodes of Lucky Star each week while it was airing. :catgirl: And I join you two in wanting an Aria-shachou plushie. Like, really bad. This is the first time I've seriously wanted a plushie (or any anime merchandise) since I was 11 years old and bought a few Pokémon plushies. If I can find one that isn't stupidly expensive I am totally buying it.

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
Well seeing as how a whole crap load of people worship haruhi like God it's gotta be good right? Oh and the lead character of Haruhi is a god as well right?
Firstly, no, not really. But it means the chances of it being good (or at least that you'll like it) are decently high. I personally didn't think Haruhi quite lived up to the mega hype surrounding it but I did enjoy it. ... And I happen to be listening to Hare Hare Yukai right now so, you know, it's stuck with me one way or another. Secondly, maybe sorta kinda yes. We think. :p Also, I've been on the fence about whether or not to watch Uta Kata for quite a while. (Partly due to laziness and always seeming to find some other series I want to watch more.) And now I'm even more uncertain. lol -
Okay, since it isn't 2:00 AM this time, I guess I'll elaborate a bit on my previous post. I'm here firstly because I like internet forums. I've joined quite a few over the years but the reason I've stuck with OB is because it's one of the few that I actually care to post on regularly, rather than simply lurking and reading. It's got a pretty close knit and relaxed atmosphere, which I always like in online communities, but it also caters to people who actually know how to write a coherent post. When it comes down to it, I simply like OB more than any other forum I've been to. I also enjoy being part of the staff here. Which is good, because I've been a staff member for a large majority of the time that I've been a member. I've especially enjoyed my time as an admin and getting to work on stuff like the software upgrade to vB 3.6 and working with James on the new Indigo skin. I like fixing problems and keeping things running smoothly, as well as adding new stuff for people to use like custom bb tags or putting new avatars in the gallery. So being an admin is the other big thing that keeps me here.
- 6 volume release
Fail. I will be waiting for the thin pack. And since it's coming out in six volumes I have a feeling I will be waiting another year or so. I guess they get to hope my interest holds that long. At least liner notes for the references is cool.

Names and taunt messages aren't displayed when you use the With Anyone option. They only show up while playing with friends. Unless they've made absolutely massive improvements to the AI since Melee, it's going to be very obvious when a human gets swapped out for a CPU. Though I'm still not sure whether I'm going to like the feature or not.

I'd get in touch with Panda, who's an admin over on theOtaku/myOtaku. She's probably the best person to talk to about this. You can PM her here on OtakuBoards or send her an e-mail at Gail@theOtaku.com.
For me the saddest anime death would have to be
Kenshin Himura's
from Samurai X.
The whole Reflection OAV was really sad for me as well. I thought it was really good, though, and couldn't figure out why I was hearing so much hate about it on the net. Then I read the manga and discovered why. After the Kyoto story arc, the anime's story splits off from the manga completely. And the Trust and Betrayal OAVs are actually just a small part of the revenge arc in the manga that happens after the Kyoto arc. Reflection makes up a totally different ending from the manga. So, yeah, I'd suggest reading the manga if you want the whole story past the Kyoto arc (which is better than the anime by far, with the exception of the Trust and Betrayal segment), and a happier ending where
Kenshin doesn't die.

Jigglypuff is deceptively agile. My brother plays on him (her? it?) a fair bit and it really makes me temper my aggresiveness. Even on Marth, if I just try to go all out attacking, he'll play hit and run and punish me for it. I have to play more defensively, waiting for him to come to me and creating good openings in order to land big hits. Of course, he gets annoyed if I play Link vs Jigglypuff and also do hit and run with my projectiles, since Jiggly has none. :p Playing Ganondorf vs fast characters like Fox is my favorite way to show up less experienced players though. The speed means nothing if they can't combo me or dodge really well.

Er, whoops. It seems I missed a zero in there. The character limit is 100,000 per post, not 10,000. If it's an issue with presentation, that's the author's fault. I mean, what's stopping people from adding breaks in the text? As Rach showed, some simple formatting can break the flow between chapters as well as starting a new post does. There's no reason why each new paragraph/section/chapter has to be separate by one empty line and nothing else. Learn to use bb tags effectively and you'll have as much control over formatting and presentation as in any book. And if even that's not enough, HTML is allowed in the Anthology too. Relying on new posts to provide breaks is, in my opinion, just lazy. And if you really want the illusion of pages while reading, use the Page Up and Page Down keys on your keyboard. They're there for a reason. :o To DB: Again, like I explained, you only have to repost the latest post. You don't have to totally remake the thread unless no one at all has replied. Edit: And also note that I said I'd be willing to make an exception for double posting when no one else has replied.

The Temple returning in Brawl is cool, yeah. But, you know, I've already played it to death. So it's hard for me to get excited about it. Hit and run usually only works well if you're good at evading and your character is faster than your opponent's. (But then, why aren't you comboing them?) Or if you're decently fast and have projectiles. Though against less experienced players you can make them chase you and let their guard down, at which point you can turn around and pwn them when they're not expecting it. People tend to get annoyed when you run from them and become reckless in trying to hit you. I use that run and bait strategy a lot when I'm playing in groups where there's one or two okay players and at least one beginner in the match. I evade the decent players (they're usually after me 'cause I'm usually the best one in the group), only taking opportune shots when they leave themselves open, while I pick off the beginner. Then I turn around and fight full on all of a sudden to KO my pursuers. They never end up getting many KOs because they're always after me and I get KOs off of both them and the beginner.

Less suckage and off-topic posts, more SSBB imo. So I hear Europe is getting screwed on Brawl's release date. February 10 is already a long enough wait after the delay from December 3 (we could've had it by now!), but July? Ouch. That's going to suck if it ends up being true. On the other hand, it would make crushing some of my fellow OBers all the easier since I'd have a lengthy head start with the game. :toothy:

Well, like I explained, you don't have to wait for someone else to post. You can still add the next chapter and bump the thread without double posting. And if you hit the character limit (10,000 characters per post) you're allowed to double post. I feel sorry for people if they seriously don't have the attention span to read multiple chapters in a row, though. Have they never read an actual book before? I can sit and read for hours with no problem. :animesigh

I was just explaining a method of adding new content to a thread that you were the last person to reply to and bumping it to the top of the forum, yet without double posting. But if no one has replied at all it doesn't work since members can't delete the original post (which would delete the entire thread).

Good choice. When I was going through the back episodes of Bleach the Bounto arc was only just nearing completion by the time I finished the Soul Society arc, so it was either that or drop the series until the filler ended. Unfortunately I decided to plow on through and ended up hating it pretty bad. The Hueco Mundo arc is indeed much better, though. I've been enjoying it. -
That has come up a few times, yeah, where a post can't be reposted because it's the only one in the thread. Most of the time I tell people that if it wasn't interesting enough to get any replies the first time it probably won't the second time either. But sometimes I will delete the thread for people as a favor so they can repost it. In the case of the Anthology it would be okay to PM Revelation or Asphy and ask them to delete the old thread so it could be reposted. Or maybe we could allow a double post until the thread gets a reply, at which point they could be merged.
