I finished Shuffle! way too fast so now I've started on Shakugan no Shana and have seen through ep6. The first two episodes were slow and not very interesting but after that it picked up. It felt like they were trying to use forshadowing but forgot to do anything else, leaving the audience going, "WTF is goin' on here?" If there's more like that to come I can see why you mention poor writing and directing. Shana is likeable both because she's just plain cute and because she's a tsunderekko. It's always cute and funny to watch them trying to be honest with themselves. And by the way, you need to add her love of melon bread to the Moe points thread. :p

Notepad would be a workable alternative to, say, Guild Wars' friends list if the in-game one didn't exist, yes. It wouldn't be as convenient but you'd still be able to keep track of friends that you make. Because here's the thing: Friends lists don't let you communicate with other players, chat features—either through text or voice—let you communicate with other players. The two complement each other but are not the same thing. That's as clear as I can make it, and this is getting off topic, so that's the last I have to say about friends lists in here.

Annie is still around as Athena, though she isn't very active anymore. She seems to go missing for months at a time. I miss playing Guild Wars with her. It was so hilarious when she got a jungle troll minipet for her character's birthday and totally cracked up as it roared away at her heels. I don't think I'll ever forget that.

No one's saying Nintendo's online service doesn't suck compared to other services out there, you know. We're perfectly aware of its flaws so you don't need to repeat them over and over. No one's arguing that point. But saying a list of friends isn't a friends list is just absurd when that's what it is by definition. I could type up a list of my friends in Notepad and save it as a text file and it would still be correct to call it a friends list. If you seriously can't understand that a friends list can exist separately from communication features, I don't think you get to call other people morons.

There's been a few posts on Smash Bros. Dojo about the new adventure mode. Apparently it's going to be a fully fledged side-scroller with a bit of a story behind it. It looks interesting and I'm wondering if it'll change depending on which character you choose to play as, or maybe if you'll use different characters as you go. As for which control style I'll use, I plan on trying them all out enough to play competently with them, though I'll probably use the GCN controller primarily. Because of SSBM the GCN style has become so ingrained that it will be really hard to get as good with another style. Unless another one offers a clear advantage I can't see myself bothering to completely relearn everything.

I've been around since September 6, 2001, and have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of OB. I've made a lot of friends through the site and also watched as many moved on. One year I was corrupting GinnyLyn, another I was kicking Shinmaru in the nads, and now I've got a following of fangirls. There definitely were some good old times but, honestly, I enjoy the present OB just as much as in the past. And congratulations, Tori! Are you going to name it after an OB member? :o

I've got around 500 hours on my SSBM file as well and I still pick up the game every couple weeks to play a few rounds. Both SSB and SSBM have incredible longevity, provided you like them in the first place. And I bet I'll still be playing SSBB off and on right up until the next game in the series is released, too. In other news, I hope Lucas isn't overly similar to Ness. The slooow floaty jumping and horrible Up+B kills him and it would be a shame for Lucus to suffer the same fate.

What annoys me most is that they have parental controls for pretty much everything else the Wii does. Yet they make us use friend codes instead providing controls for online play. I don't get it. How well SSBB runs online will mostly be up to the players' connections and how far apart they are, though. If everyone in a match has ping times under 50ms then it probably won't feel much different than a local match; if they're pushing 100ms then it's going to feel a bit off; 500ms and it'll probably be unplayable. Which means fighting Jeh from over here in California probably won't work so well. :animedepr

That can be changed, yeah. I'd recommend setting the default to show all threads since each page still only displays thirty threads each. The only reason I can think of to set it otherwise is to help prevent really old threads being brought back, but that's never been much of a problem. And it can be fun to look back through the site's history.
However, it seems that the anime lounge has nothing really going for it. I remember when I first joined that I posted in there every time I visited but not any more. Some anime people never even heard of that are being so eagerly talked about. Also, perhaps some people feel inferior to those who seem to have this vast knowledge of every anime ever created so they feel like they shouldn't post?
This is a bad thing? I've discovered some really great shows by browsing through AL, seeing people talking about an anime I'd never heard of, and deciding to check it out. Personally, I'd be really dismayed if AL only had discussions about well-known anime.
Sorry that I am not creative. For an example, I could not find a kare kano thread in the manga workshop and then my thread gets placed in an existing kare kano thread. Sure, but then why is it the entire thread gone from when you look at the sub forum now? There are barely any posts in it the sub forum so I do not see how it can be bumped off.
Scroll down to the bottom of the forum to the Display Options panel and select "Beginning" in the "From The" drop-down menu, then click the Show Threads button. The Kare Kano thread is still on the first page, 10th from the bottom, but if you have it set to only show threads with activity in the last month (as is the default setting) then you wouldn't be able to see it. The merged thread always takes the place of the newer of the two being merged, by the way, since threads are listed by the time of their last post. I always recommend merging the new into the old to preserve the correct link in the thread directory though.

There is a friends list feature that uses friend codes, just like every other Nintendo wifi game out there. And I'm sure it will be plenty easy to find other players both here and at other online communities to exchange codes with. When it comes to competitive play, it's all about item switch and which stages you allow. With default settings Smash Bros. has always been more of a party game but if you use the right match rules it's perfectly suitable for tournament play. SSBM has a huge competitive following and I'm sure it will be the same for SSBB. It's a given that any serious competitive matches wouldn't be held online, due to lag. But even so, I'm glad we're getting online play for the game. I just want to own Shinmaru and have a good time even if it's not perfect. Given that probably less than 1% of my time with SSBM was spent playing with other people, I'm happy that I'll get to fight something other than CPU opponents at all.
-
Maybe if you take online play for granted you can say it's nothing. But, again, remember that you're not paying anything extra to play SSBB online while XBL has a subscription fee. So sure, I'm also annoyed that Nintendo is keeping up their "protect the kiddies from the internet!" policy without even providing parental controls so others can relax the restrictions. But at least I can appreciate that Nintendo is providing free online play at all. You can ***** all you want but it's not like Nintendo owes us better features.
no way I'm letting this thread die! From the show I'm watching now...
I'm about to start on Shakugan no Shana as well, after I finish Shuffle. That's what I was thinking, Boo. Leave the skipped spots and just let people sign up for new spots. I also agree that we should add a time limit, so the skipping is less random. 72 hours sounds good to me, any objections?

You mean the one where she saves the kid from getting run over on the way to school? I think it did. The habit was there before I watched PPD though maybe not as strong. But if any series is going to cause weird habits I imagine PPD would be it. :p

Blue Marlins appear from July through September. Not many fish appear during only a single month in the year. They usually have a range of months, or at least a few scattered throughout. GameFAQs has a nice fish/bug FAQ that lists all the dates and times that things appear. Salmon and King Salmon, however, only appear during September. So you guys might want to get a move on and do some river fishing for those before they're gone.

I might've mentioned this elsewhere on the board but, whenever there's a scene where two characters are saying goodbye and one walks away across a street. . . . I can't help but imagine that a big semi truck comes barreling down the road from the side, horn blaring, and mows down the character without even braking. It doesn't matter how sad or dramatic the scene is, that always comes to mind and I usually start cracking up. I think this odd habit has its roots in seeing Palmer get hit by that truck in Rocket Town, in Final Fantasy VII, after you beat him down while stealing the Tiny Bronco. I always loved that scene but I have no idea how it got twisted in my mind to what it is now.

If the game is somehow erasing the WEP key out of your connection profile that would definitely stop you from connecting. You might try disabling WEP encryption on your router and seeing if it lets you connect then. I wouldn't recommend keeping it disabled but it'll at least tell you whether or not that's the problem.

I looked up that error code on Nintendo's support site and it sent me here. And, if you've been able to connect with ACWW before, it does sound like it could be a configuration issue with your wireless router. I'd double check your WEP security and MAC filtering settings against the connection profile you're using on the DS just in case, if your router uses them. When you say you have to reconfigure your settings when you've tried to connect with ACWW, you mean the settings in the wifi connecton setup screen? Those settings are stored on the DS itself so I'm not sure why they would change when you play ACWW. What exactly changes, and how? Also, I wouldn't think this would matter but, since you said your copy is used, did you erase the cartridge's save data before starting your own character? Taking a game that's been played online in one DS and then playing it online in a second DS should invalidate any friend code data from when it was played on the first DS but I wouldn't think it would keep you from connecting on the second DS. It's a long shot, and probably your last resort, but you could always try erasing all the save data if you didn't before.

I gotta do one for Slayers. Take a drink whenever... - Lina casts a Fireball - Gourry mentions Lina's small breast size, bad temper, etc. - Lina has to explain something to Gourry - Zelgadis mentions his chimera body or getting his normal one back - Amelia talks about justice - Xellos says, "that is a secret" - Filia's tail shows - A mazoku ("monster") shows up Finish your glass whenever... - Lina casts a Dragon Slave - The characters make reference to it being a show - Prince Phil shows up - There are fish people in the episode - Filia changes into dragon form Chug a whole glass whenever... - Gourry cross-dresses

Rocket surfing, you say? It's got that. I finished watching the series today and, as someone who hasn't played the games, I liked it quite a bit. Dante exudes style and badassness nicely. And the animation is gorgeous. (I don't know about others, but I got 1280x720 h.246 encoded episodes and they were totally awesome. I can't imagine watching the series in lesser quality now, especially not crappy streaming quality on YouTube.) The only thing that annoyed me was that they didn't show enough of the actual fighting; too many times, it would cut away during fight scenes.

It can depend on the type of game, really. In a FPS like Halo, or a platform shooter like 2D Metroid, making enemies stronger can work well in increasing the difficulty. In something like a fighting game, however, better AI rather than cheap advantages is definitely preferable. A problem, though, is that due to good AI programming being more complex (read: more expensive) to produce than simply tweaking some stats, a lot of games resort to giving the enemies advantages in order to increase difficulty.
