1. 1. I've got long hair, which falls almost all the way down my back. It was just reaching my waist before I got a few inches trimmed off recently. I wear it in a ponytail and I love it. It's harder to take care of than short hair but it's worth it. 2. My hair is light brown with blond highlights. It's pretty shiny so in bright, direct light it can look like it's actually blond. 3. No, I like my natural hair color so I haven't dyed it. I have a feeling that if I ever do it'll be for cosplaying or some other weird purpose. 4. N/A 5. I generally prefer long hair but it can depend on the girl. Short hair can be really cute as well and it's always funny when girls are envious of my awesome long hair.
2. A couple things about the Mario Forum article are a bit off. It was added during the upgrade to version 6, not version 5. Version 5 started in April of 2002, and the forum also only shows up in the archive pages of early version 6. Also, I don't think the failure of the Mario forum had much to do with ShineGet.com being scrapped. Or at least I never heard that it did, and I was one of the people working on the site. As I remember it, James just didn't have enough time to devote to the project.

Hard Gay

Hard Gay thread, hoooo! I stumbled upon this on YouTube a while ago and have since downloaded more subtitled videos. Very few things can make me laugh so hard that my jaw starts aching but HG has managed it a few times. Some of the crap he does is just so outrageously absurd. If it were in the US I bet he'd get arrested. The wiki article on Masaki Sumitani has details about the origin of the character and such. So has anyone else seen or heard of this? My favorite clip has to be the ramen one. There's just so many hilarious parts in that one, from chasing down the guy on the bike to the playground scenes. And the advertising actually worked. . . .
4. The early games in the series (before Phantasy Star Online) seem relatively obscure compared to the big RPG series like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, etc. I think being on the Master System and Genesis during the time when the NES and SNES were reigning supreme in the RPG department with the likes of FF and DQ contributed to that. I barely ever hear people talk about Phantasy Star, yet when they do it's generally positive. I still haven't actually played any of the games myself, though.
5.
Lulz, I'd pay to have that line under my name XD Also, quick question, does the canging of the lines have anything to do with the fact that the little grey/blue box beside the names has sunken?
Oh? How much? :toothy: Honestly, I have no idea why the online status image moved. I didn't touch the code for any of the other lines, and they're in separate divs. But I cleaned up the code for the user name div just now and the image looks to have gone back to where it was before, so whatever.
6. The detach feature is up and running. Check the announcement for details. I also went ahead and removed the word View from the postbit. Myself, I'd just like to remove those two links altogether, but I need to check in with James on what he wants to do with them.
7. I like keeping praying mantids as pets whenever I find them. Right now I have one that I've been keeping for about a month now. It was already an adult when I found it but it's gotten a bit bigger since then. I couldn't get a decent picture of mine specifically because my camera refuses to focus on it for some reason, but it looks pretty much identical to this: I believe it's a Mantis religiosa, or European mantis. I feed it beetles, moths, or whatever other insects I happen to find. A few days after catching this one I also found what looked like a Hierodula membranacea nymph (a young Giant Asian mantis) and put the two together to see which would end up eating the other. The European mantis had the high ground and won.
8. The server isn't letting any files be uploaded right now for some reason. So uploading avatars, signature images, or profile pictures won't work. Last time this happened, things started working again in a few days but I've never been able to figure out what the actual problem is. The only thing I can think of is that it might be related to the work being done on one of theOtaku's servers right now.
9. Apparently the server isn't letting me upload files again, so no graphic worm update today. I still have no idea why it does this; last time it seemed to magically fix itself after awhile so we'll see what happens.
10. I updated the postbit to make the myOtaku line a little shorter and remove the redundancy of the view/sign guestbook links. Right now I'm looking into a good way to make a Detach myOtaku Account feature. It can be done by removing the necessary profile fields but if we make them editable then people would be able to put in someone else's myOtaku name and user ID. So I'm trying to learn a little PHP, to make a form (like a button or something) that, when submitted, would just clear those profile fields.
11. I'd been thinking about whether we could still use the directories effectively without the single thread rule. My main concern is that it might get to be a lot of work for moderators to maintain them, with more threads needing to be added. But if the staff don't mind spending some extra time updating them (and I guess we can always hire more mods if really needed) then I think it would work.
12. Hmm, another one of these threads. I wonder how answers will have changed since the last one. Mine hasn't changed though. Kaji from Evangelion is still the closest match I've found for myself. Here's the old comparison and a new one: My hair doesn't really have that reddish tinge to it, though; it's just the funky lighting in my room. It actually has blond highlights and tends to reflect the color of the lighting around it in pictures.
13. I'm not better than the rest of you because I'm an admin. I'm an admin because I'm better than the rest of you. :smirk:
14. Heh, sorry for not mentioning this earlier. I completely overlooked the fact that members would be able to use this too because I'm used to thinking they can't edit the titles in the thread listing. :p We only allow members to change titles within ten minutes to keep people from suddenly changing the subject of their thread after it's already been going for a while. It's similar to the reasoning for not letting members delete their own threads either. The ten minutes gives them a little time to correct errors if they happen to misspell something in the title, though. And, um. . . . Adding someone to your buddy list also uses AJAX now? There's a few little tweaks like that around the site but everything major was mentioned in the New vBulletin thread you posted in Otaku Lounge.
15. That's the problem with separating things by genre; it can be really subjective when they fall into more than one. In the end I think it would just make it harder to find what you're looking for. I don't think it would really encourage more posting or allow more freedom, either, since it would just be taking our current threads and splitting them up into subcategories. We could also split them up by company like we had before with the Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft forums, but that only stunted posting because people were never quite sure where to post about multi-platform titles. I imagine splitting threads up by genre would have a similar effect.
16. This is just another feature that was added when we upgraded the vB software. It uses AJAX to let you double click the thread title's table cell and edit the title directly from the thread listing. But since members are only allowed to change the title that appears in the thread listing within ten minutes of posting the thread (and obviously you can only change the titles of your own threads), you won't be able to use it after those ten minutes are up. After that you can only edit the title that appears on the first post itself by using the edit button. Moderators can use this feature on all threads and without the time limit, of course.
17. Here's a mini-walkthrough for the first part of the Water Temple, since Gavin asked for help. This is all just from memory, so it's not incredibly comprehensive, but there's still some good info here. Before you can do much you need to meet Ruto and lower the water level, so put on the Iron Boots and head into the eastern passage at the bottom of the central room. You'll meet her in there, then follow her up a shaft to the first spot where you can change the water level. Do so to lower the water level all the way, then drop back down the now-dry shaft. Also make a note of the cracked wall half way down the shaft—you'll need to come back here and collect the small key behind it after you've raised the water level back up half way. At the bottom of the shaft is a room you can now get into which contains a small key. This will let you get into the room inside the pillar in the central room but before that you should explore everywhere else that you can get to. Be systematic, paying attention to where you're going on the map and remembering that rooms on different floors can be connected by vertical shafts. You may enter a passage from the central room on 1F but end up coming out of it on B1, for example. It's very important to fully explore everywhere you can get to at each water level, both so you can collect keys and make notes of where you'll need to come back to with the water at a different level. At one point you'll come across a square room with water flowing around it in a circle and two snake-like statues in the pool. In the mouth of the statue sticking out of the wall is a crystal switch, and to the right is a passage blocked by a gate, which the switch opens. On the wall in the passage is a Hookshot target. Don't be fooled here—you can get through this room without the Longshot. Use the Iron Boots to sink into the pool and stand where the Hookshot will reach both the switch and the target. This will probably take some experimentation since it's a very small spot where you can reach both. Once you find it, hit the switch with the Hookshot, then quickly shift your aim to the target and pull yourself into the passage. Run through the gate before it closes; you'll find another small key beyond it. After you've gone everywhere you can, go into the pillar in the central room and climb up to the second place where you can change the water level. Do so to raise the water to mid-level, then use the Iron Boots to sink back down the shaft. A passage in the floor will now be uncovered, leading to another small key. Also, remember to go back to the shaft in the eastern passage where you met Ruto to collect that key, and explore everywhere else that you couldn't get to with the water at its lowest. After exploring with the water at mid-level, go through the locked western door in the central room on 2F. You'll end up climbing to 3F and finding the third place where you can change the water level. If you've set up a Scarecrow's Song, play it where Navi turns green on the ledge here; this will let you Hookshot from the central platform back to the ledge. Raise the water level, scour the area once more, then head through the western door on 3F. This series of rooms will lead you to Dark Link. If you've gotten all the small keys that you can up to that point you'll be able to make it through. If you get stopped by a locked door, go back to the central room and start searching again. Check the map for any rooms you haven't been in which look connected to places you have been, and if need be start over by lowering the water level to its lowest again. After you get through to Dark Link the rest of the Water Temple is fairly straightforward.
18. I play Zelda. A lot. I can always pick up any of them and have fun (well, besides Zelda II and parts of Majora's Mask), especially A Link to the Past. I replayed Ocarina of Time recently, and A Link to the Past not long before that. Super Metroid is another one that I keep going back to over and over. By now I have pretty much every bit of the map memorized, along with where all the items are, but it's still fun just to go through blasting baddies. The play control is so excellent that, when you get really good at the game, it makes you feel like a total badass to run through and effortlessly lay waste to everything in your path. For more recent games, Super Smash Bros. and SSBM are classics that I can't put down. I'm still playing Melee a couple times a week just by myself, honing my skills on Marth, and when either of the games are brought out among friends I love to play them more than pretty much any other multiplayer game. F-Zero GX is another one that I still play every now and then. Again, the control in this game is so fine tuned and precise that it just feels awesome to go around the harder tracks and beautifully slide through all the twists and turns. And it feels fast. In the higher grand prix difficulty levels you really need fast reflexes and a steady hand?over-correcting is liable to make a mistake go from bad to worse?to deal with all the complications of sharing the track with 29 other racers. But when you pull through and get first in a particularly hard race it feels oh-so-good.
19.
And if you're like me, you'll watch it all at once.
Please don't group yourself with me. :animeangr I watched this a while ago and really enjoyed it. So much so that the scant 12 minute episodes seemed longer than they actually were, I was so drawn into it. Like you mentioned, it's incredibly endearing and did an excellent job of making me feel for the characters. By the way, there are actually ten episodes of this since an extra one got released on the DVDs. It fits in between episodes 7 and 8 and is titled The Unforgiven. Another Audrey Hepburn movie reference like all the other titles but it always makes me think of the Metallica song instead.
20. This could very easily be changed but I actually think it would look worse with a line break between the titles and the myOtaku info. It seems completely random to me and breaks the flow of the lines. If people really don't like how the myOtaku line is so much longer, though, there's something else I could look into doing that might be better. That is, having the myOtaku info on multiple lines, floated and aligned to the right so it would sit next to the avatar. Edit: Or we could just get rid of the guestbook and friend links to make the line shorter. Those bits always seemed unnecessary to me since there's already a link to the person's main page, from which you can do both of those things.
21. I just don't see how a single thing, or even a series, warrants its own forum?and the trouble of swapping them in and out?anymore. In the past, most of the threads in the Otaku Series forums (Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Pokemon) were either discussion threads about a single game in the series like the ones we have now, help threads, favorite threads, or stuff along the lines of, "omg Sephiroth is so hot, who else likes him?" At present, the first three would be fine within our current forums if we lifted the single thread rule and the last one would get closed/deleted. Even if we got a good system for rotating forums going, though, I don't think that's a very good solution to the actual problem. It still leaves any subject not wildly popular enough to get its own forum in the same situation we're in now, with a single restrictive thread. Rotating forums is an interesting idea in itself but I think dropping the single thread rule within our current forums is a more fundamental solution. It also needs to happen first in order to be consistent when merging the rotating forums back into the main forums. Also, Tony, getting people together within a game's thread to play online should be fine. If that sort of thing isn't being allowed, PM me with the specifics and I'll look into it. Hardwired Online can be used for that but it was never intended to be the only place people can organize online play together. In the case of the Chromehounds thread, though, it was more a case of not allowing advertising than not allowing people to organize online games. Posting a thread solely to get people to join your clan/guild isn't much different than posting just to advertise a website.
22. Like Petie said, it would be a pain to have flavor of the month forums while keeping the regular forums organized because a bunch of threads all on one subject would constantly be getting dumped in them. There's also the issue of people then not being able to find things, both because the threads would be in a different forum and because the thread titles would make little sense outside the context of the subject-specific forum. That would be a big pain for anyone wanting to post about the subject after its forum had been merged. And how do we decide when a forum has run its course and should be removed, since even the old anime forums rarely died out completely? The idea itself sounds good but the logistics of it sound like a nightmare to me. Also, I've seen plenty of instances of new members jumping into threads that already have lots of replies with no problem. I'm not sure that's really a problem with the current system. The only way I can think of to strike a balance between the single thread and multiple forum methods without being a huge pain to manage is simply removing the one thread per subject rule from the current forums. If a game/anime/whatever gathers enough discussion to warrant multiple threads, let people make them. And if similar/repeat threads pop up moderators could either merge them or leave them be at their discretion, the same as in forums like Otaku Lounge. We might get a main discussion thread, a help thread, and a favorites thread about whatever's particularly popular at the time, for example, but I can't see there really being a need for more than two or three threads per subject. Personally, I prefer the single thread method over having multiple forums. But I wouldn't mind removing the single thread rule and managing the Entertainment forums the same as the others, either.
23. The article is just quoting what people posted in the thread. You'd have to complain to Sara for not including Charlie's Angels since she wrote that method. Charlie's Angels was rather obscure compared to Adam's Angels though.
24. I wasn't sure what exactly you meant by a cut out version of the avatar, but I gave it a shot. And I made a couple avatars to go with it.
25. And you thought the original OP theme was crazy. Motteke! Sailor Fuku Re-Mix001, an album with seven remixes of the song, was released today. The above YouTube link is my favorite one from the disc (though the Matsuri Mix with Minoru singing along is also pretty good). They turn an already hyper song into a frantic barrage of madness assaulting your ears. I love it. :catgirl:
