1. We actually had an introduction forum here for a long time until it got removed. You can read about it in the Newbie Lounge Otakupedia article. We've eased up on the "no introduction threads" thing since then but I doubt we'll make a new intro forum any time soon. We are, however, working to put together a welcome PM that will be sent to all new members upon registration. It should help people get acquainted with the boards without needing a whole forum dedicated to intro threads.
2. *releases a fairy for the thread* I started playing Ocarina of Time again recently. This will make three times that I'll have played it to completion, plus once for Master Quest. That's not nearly as many times as A Link to the Past, and it's not even as old as LttP, but I keep feeling very nostalgic while playing it. I'm finding I still know the game incredibly well and as I do things I'll remember the first time I explored the area, or the first time I figured something out. It was the first Zelda game that I beat, back when I was eleven, and it was the game that started my obsession with the series, so it's special to me even if it's not my favorite. OoT really is a classic, even if I do think it's a bit overrated.
3. RE4 just doesn't seem like my kind of game. I'm sure I could play through it once and have fun but I doubt I'd ever pick it up again after that. Single player shooters (either first or third person) rarely hold my interest for long unless it's a sidescroller like Metroid or Mega Man. And yes, I do have FFIII on the DS. It's pretty good.
4. I wasn't planning on arguing the same points over again either, I just realized I hadn't given my point of view on that particular argument yet. So I figured I'd do so while expanding on why I believe human life begins at conception.
5. Many forms of contraception prevent eggs from being fertalized in the first place. Those methods can't be compared to abortion because conception hasn't even happened yet. And, as such, I fully support their use. As for the debate over when life begins, I'd again go back to my previous post about a zygote possessing all the characteristics of life. By definition, it's just as alive as a newborn is. Where you get real arguments is in defining when human life begins. Is a zygote formed at conception human? I believe so due to its genetics matching those of a human. To me, an organism's genes are its defining characteristic, as they contain the information that determines all of its other characteristics. Saying a fetus isn't human until it has the general shape of a baby, or has developed a brain, or whatever else, all seem like very subjective arguments to me. Why is the brain the defining characteristic of a human? Why not the heart, or the liver, or the kidneys, or some other vital organ? All are needed for the continued life of the fetus and I don't see any valid reasoning behind any of them being a human's defining characteristic. Given the above, the argument about not taking choices away from people doesn't seem valid to me. I'm all for personal liberty but not when it involves killing human life. There are lots of things in life that are painful and traumatizing for people but in no other situation does that give them the right to take another's life to make it stop. If a fetus is indeed human, all it comes down to is killing out of convenience, regardless of the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy.
6. There have been three released so far, at least that I know of. There's the Motteke! Sailor Fuku single, BGM & Radio Bangumi Lucky Channel CD, and Ending Theme Collection. The BGM & Lucky Channel disc has a few of the background music tracks from the series but most of it is just dialogue tracks between Akira and Minoru.
7.
It's totally not obvious that I like this show. >_>
Nope, not at all. :p And welcome to OB, I notice you're new here. Speaking of ED songs, the ED collection album with all the karaoke songs was released recently. (I'm listening to it right now. ^_^) It not only has the tracks from the endings, with all the dialogue, but also the full versions of each song, which is awesome. Cha-La Head Cha-La sung by Konata is hilarious.
8.
Note the part grow into. At that point it's not there yet. ;) It hasn't gotten to the point of possessing the generally accepted characteristics of life you're talking about.
But a newborn hasn't gotten to the point of being a fully developed human either and is still in the process of growing into one, the same as a zygote or embryo is. There's still plenty left that needs to grow and develop, from the brain to body structure. No one would argue that it's okay to kill babies because they aren't fully developed yet, but that's where you end up if you take the argument of, "It's not fully developed yet so it's okay," to its logical conclusion. And yes, a zygote does possess the characteristics of life, just as much as any other single celled organism does. I'm not talking about living in the same way as outside the uterus, I'm talking about the actual definition of life.
9. Note the part about it being human due to its genetics. Human DNA + life = human life.
10. I'm pro-life and don't believe an abortion is ever acceptable, except maybe in cases of rape when the pregnancy is going to endanger the life of the mother. That I'm kind of sketchy on, since it's basically asking me to choose which person I think deserves to live and which doesn't. Anyway, even putting aside religious beliefs, I've never read any arguments that have convinced me of fetuses not being human life. Most of them, like not being able to live outside the mother, also apply to newborns?they can't survive on their own either. A zygote formed at conception contains a complete human DNA string with all the necessary information to grow into a fully-developed human and possesses all seven of the generally accepted characteristics of life, with the exception of reproduction in the sense of creating a new individual. (But, again, that applies to infants as well.) It's not "potential life," as that would be something that may or may not become alive; it is life because it's already alive. So, yeah, it does seem like murder to me. And that's even less cool than Retri posting that fatty pic.
11. There's a space between Pani and Poni, fyi. *edits title* :animesmil I love this series and was actually thinking about starting a thread for it. But, you know, I'm lazy like that and didn't. I watched this a while ago and it was one of the weirdest comedy animes I've ever seen. The thing that really sets it apart from Azumanga Daioh in my mind, though, is that Pani Poni Dash! doesn't even try to be at all realistic. Totally weird and random crap happens all the time and tends to just be taken in stride by the characters. Sometimes even being dismissed as not actually having happened because, of course, stuff like that is impossible. It was crazy awesome (literally!) and I loved every episode. And yes, the
Kami-sama cat and its body temperature
was hilarious. That made me laugh pretty much every single time. But I think I liked the Ichijo Matsuri more. Becky is adorable, by the way, and I've been meaning to make a banner with her for a while now.
12. New character introduction in episode 14! Yutaka Kobayakawa, Yui's little sister, moves in with Konata and Soujirou (Konata's father) to attend the same high school. (I think this was mentioned in an earlier episode, too. She's the little pink-haired girl from the opening cheerleading scene.) Lots of funny as she gets acquainted with them, Tsukasa, and Kagami. And, like Konata, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when she and Miyuki get together. :p They've really been on a roll lately. The last few episodes have all been awesome. Enough so that I've been eagerly and impatiently awaiting each one, heh. I can't wait to see more of the characters from the opening and how they fit into the main four's little world. The ED song, by the way. . . .
Hare Hare Yukai from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya being sung by Minoru in front of the ocean at sunset while he mimics fighting game moves and bits of the dance. Live action like episode 13's ED.
Yeah. It's going to be hard to forget that.
I don't know if you've seen videos of it, but the control system appears to work very well. They have a few options, one of which is basically just like the old Prime set up with a basic lock-on. But the more advanced system is probably what you or I would use. It allows you to lock on to an enemy and strafe as normal, but you're allowed to freely move around the cursor to shoot at whatever you want. So, you can lock onto the main enemy, but pin point specific parts... or shoot at some smaller enemy coming at you while you're still locked on to another. I've not read a single bad thing about how this works, the dead zone or anything else.
I did go and watch the three videos they have up on Gametrailers for MP3 and it looks like it works pretty well. Being able to lock on and still aim freely is definitely cool and takes care of most of my skepticism about the control. I mainly want to know if it's set up to strafe with left/right on the control stick even when not locked on, like most FPSs, and you just use the cursor to turn and look. And, if so, how well the cursor works for that. It was hard to tell if that was the case in the videos. What would be nice is if they just gave us a fully customizable control scheme along with the presets. That way I wouldn't have to care about this stuff and could just set it up however I like best. Not nearly enough console games give you that option.
14.
Besides which, I find it hard to believe that he has a GameCube and hasn't played through this game. Is that true?
I haven't, actually. Like you mentioned, my wallet is pretty much always being stretched just to get the few games I want the most, and RE4 just wasn't a priority. Running around and blasting zombies (or whatever they are in that one) looked fun, but it also looked like something I'd probably get bored with relatively fast. I really just can't afford to buy a game that I'm not going to enjoy for a long time or else I end up sitting around with nothing to play besides older games and no money for anything new. I suppose this means I should get a job, huh?
15.
I?ve seen a few of your Megaman X videos, Desbreko. And I?m quite impressed, because I remember I always had a hard time fighting against Boomer Kuwanger and you made the fight look incredibly easy. I can tell it must have took you a lot of time and patience (not including all of your other videos) to remember all of his movements and patterns. Neat stuff. ;) On a related note, I tried to replay FFVII the other day, and man is it hard to go back to those blocky graphics after seeing games like Gears of Wars.
Actually, most of my videos took less than an hour to make, from first starting to analyze the boss's patterns to getting a good recording. (But then again, for Zelda LttP and Super Metroid I already knew most of their patterns and the tricks to beating them as well.) Most of Mega Man X's bosses have very simple patterns and most of the challenge came from needing fast reflexes to keep ahead of them in the game and not just in my head. Only Sting Chameleon, Launch Octopus, Bospider, and D-Rex took very long to beat without getting hit. And you know, I've always kind of liked FFVII's blocky graphics. Even when I go back and play it now, Aeris' boxy dress, Barret's square hands, and everything else makes me smile and remember when I was playing the game for the first time and thinking that they were such great graphics. What was more distracting to me was actually the quality of the FMVs. Unlike the realtime graphics I never really noticed much difference in the FMVs going from FFVII, to FFVIII, to FFIX. But then going back to FFVII again made me realize just how much Square improved the FMVs as well. I remember being so impressed by the bike scene, but going back and watching it now makes the animation look really dated.
16.
EDIT: To Dagger's below post, since I don't wanna be stuck unable to post - it's not being streamed yet!
I thought I taught you how to use bittorrent. . . . I guess I'll bite—getting the first episode now. I do enjoy me some zany comedy, and if Dagger likes it that's always a good sign. I just hope this doesn't push back releases of Lucky Star. :animedepr Edit: Watched it. It definitely reminds me of Pani Poni Dash!, especially all the random stuff written on the chalkboards. The reference to
Second Life
made me laugh. The depressive and morbid atmosphere that Nozomu gives off makes for some weird humor. And those censor bubbles were kinda freaky. I think I'm going to keep watching this one.
17. It seems odd to me to consider N64/PS1 games as oldies, but I guess they're two generations back now. I still think of SNES/Genesis era and older games. I got the urge to play some SNES games a while ago. I ended up playing through Mega Man X (the first time I actually beat it), Zelda: A Link to the Past (twelfth time lol), and Super Metroid again. (Shameless plug for the recordings from said play-throughs.) I've never been much a fan of Mega Man games but I like the first X game. And Zelda LttP and Super Metroid are two of my favorite games ever, so of course I loved playing those again.

Every time I see a new trailer for Super Mario Galaxy I get all hyped up about it again. The bumblebee and boo suits look great and I'm also wondering if we'll see the tanuki suit and other classics from SMB3 return. A hammer bros. suit would rock. ZOMG Super Smash Bros. Brawl on December 3. Exactly six years after Melee was released in the US. . . . And that's all there really is to say about that. :animesigh I'm still holding out for details about its online capabilities. I figured a Mario Kart for Wii was in the works but I'm happy to hear it'll be out early next year. Online battle mode is something I've been waiting for ever since MKDS so I'm very pleased that it's finally happening. I just hope they do a better job with the interface and matchmaking options for online play. The system they used in MKDS seemed rushed and crappy and I'll be very disappointed if it's more of the same with the Wii game. I'm still not sure if I'm going to get Metroid Prime 3. I loved the first one but the second one was too annoying with the constant life drain in dark Aether any time you weren't in one of those stupid safe zones. I'm also wondering how well the point-and-shoot system will work, since I wasn't too impressed with Red Steel. Not to mention I'll be saving up for Mario Galaxy, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, and SSBB. At any rate I'm going to wait and see what it's like before dropping the money on it.
19. If you mean on OtakuBoards, I just checked your PM settings and they're set to allow PMs from everyone. Everything looks normal there. If you mean on myOtaku, Gail (aka Panda) takes care of account problems over there, in which case I'll leave this to her. But either way, more specifics are probably needed. We need to know what exactly is going wrong before we can attempt to fix anything.
20. I've been hitting the shoujo anime pretty hard lately. I'm finding I enjoy the slice of life genre a lot, with some comedy and romance mixed in. Some of the series I've watched recently include Kaleido Star, Kanon, Air, and REC. I'm not a big fan of drama, though?Air was a little too heavy for my taste, but good nonetheless?and I prefer more lighthearted series. I also can't resist a good comedy, either as a primary or secondary genre. (Everything's better with some added funny.) I enjoy lots of different kinds of humor, but I think my favorite is the weird and random stuff found in series like Pani Poni Dash!, Azumanga Daioh, Lucky Star, and Dragon Half. Fantasy/adventure is another genre I enjoy a lot. Slayers, Scrapped Princess, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, and Rune Soldier are all good examples of what I like. I'm a sucker for the whole swords and sorcery setting but I also enjoy somewhat more realistic series like Rurouni Kenshin.
21. Broadcast order, yeah. I haven't watched it in chronological order yet, so I always think in broadcast order. They play what looks to be some kind of trading card game in ep9 (14 chronologically), but I have no idea what it is. Is that what you meant?
22. They play both Othello, in ep5, and Go, in ep11.
23. Well, I was responding to both your and Aaryanna's posts. If the tone of the singing grates on your nerves I can understand not liking it. But lowering your IQ as you watch it? I watch it every time and you don't see me getting any dumber, do you? Wait, don't answer that. :animeswea
24. Aw, come on, I love the opening sequence. It's so hyper-active, cute, and cheerful with a splash of random weirdness that I can't help but watch it every episode. I think it suits the series perfectly.
25. Oh, hey, you're right. I guess the way the filter works must have been changed between 3.0 and 3.6, because it used to be that once a word was censored in a post it couldn't be restored even after the filter was lifted. 'Cause I didn't do anything besides install the plug-in and specify which forums to disable the filter in.
