The filter is disabled once again in Adventure Square, Adventure Inn, Arena Underground, and OB Anthology. Have fun being pottymouths, everyone. :p

I don't carry any sort of bag unless it's my backpack, which isn't regularly unless I'm going to school and carrying books, but I make good use of my pockets. Right pocket: - Cold Steel Med. Tanto Point Voyager (clipped onto the pocket for easy access) - Extra hair ties - Some quarters Left pocket: - Keys (with Homestar Runner and sterling silver Pikachu keychains attached) - Cell phone Back pocket: - Wallet (cash, receipts, school ID, Cutlery Works free sharpening coupons) Belt pouch: - Swiss Army Craftsman Yes, I like knives, and it makes me feel slightly uneasy when I don't have at least my voyager with me. I use both it and the craftsman all the time, for everything from opening letters to [strike]inflicting stabbity death[/strike] opening my PC case when there are no screwdrivers around. I'd like to get the large version voyager some time, though; I got the medium when I was only about 12 years old and my hands have kind of outgrown its handle by now.

I just watched episode 13 and I think the series has reached a new high. The conversations in the first half were pretty good, especially with a few references sprinkled in. The
Kanon reference, with Konata going, "Uguu," like Ayu,
was really cute and funny. And I think I'm going to be remembering the phrase,
"Rice cake goes whee,"
for quite some time. The Valentine's Day stuff upped the ante and was even funnier. I loved the bit about
Konata's in-game marriage; that "does not compute" reaction from Kagami and Tsukasa
made me laugh a lot. And watching Kagami all embarrassed and in denial was cute,
even if it wasn't real
. I'm liking her more and more as the series goes on. Short break with some so-so conversation, then BAM! Another scene with the crazy store clerks, this time even longer and weirder. Great way to end the episode. But, of course, it's not over at that point. Lucky Channel was pretty good, with Akira
looking good in drills
and Minoru being smug in that, "I'm trying to hide it but not really," way. And then the closing karaoke was just. . . . Well, you have to see it for yourself. It made me go WTF mates? ^^
Just wondering if you're interested in joining our staff -- as a moderator in the Nintendo forum. We'd be happy to have you. I look forward to your reply. :) Regards, James.
I think that PM pretty much sums it up for me. After the Padded Room Party (the original one) got closed and I decided to get with the program, I started angling for a staff position by posting well, posting often, and being helpful whenever possible, mainly in the Zelda and Nintendo forums. It paid off when the site was upgraded to v4 and James picked me as one of the new moderators hired during the version change.
I dont think that this is the case since at the time that Koizumi had arrived and asked what they did as a club she told them that it was to gather time travelers, espers, and aliens and have as much fun with them as possible. She probably knows everything subconsciously I think.
Well, yeah, that was always the objective of the club. But I meant that the characters' roles in the movie matching up with what they actually are seemed a bit too convenient. Seeing as Haruhi was directing everything, if she had just picked at random it would be unlikely that the roles would match up like that, with Mikuru playing the time traveler, Yuki playing the alien, and Itsuki playing the esper. Yes, the
Phoenix Wright
reference was awesome, Shin. It took me a while to catch it as well, since the gestures and everything fit Haruhi so well that it didn't seem at all out of the ordinary. After I had finished the episode I remembered that scene and went, "Hey, wait a minute," then totally cracked up while watching it again. Also: Needs moar season 2 info. *joins Konata in rejoicing*

If this thing was actually going down, don't you think I would've closed the team threads as well? And given some sort of reason for doing it? And maybe, like, actually sounded at all serious in my post? Think of the circumstances before you jump to conclusions, people; it's obviously a joke. Sandy, feel free to delete this along with re-opening the thread.
Oh, you know, my bad. Do you feel happy that you gave me a little jab? You'd better be careful when you're dancing with a left-handed wordboxer.
Why yes, yes I do. Thanks for asking. I thought the part where I stole a smiley from Group Sounds was especially good. It seems the cool thing to do these days. Anyway, the filter will be fixed as soon as I can get the customer number and password for our vB license from James, then download and install this.

If I had to describe Kaleido Star in one word it would be, of course, "amazing." Yes, a silly reference to the episode titles, but it's true. Every episode was absolutely delightful to watch and it actually made me sad to finish the series because it meant there wouldn't be any more to watch. Sora is one of my favorite and most believable characters I've seen in an anime. She's not the stereotypical wonder girl where everything just works out for her. She messes up, she has doubts, she feels like running away when things get painful—she does run away—and her overall display of emotions just seems more realistic than in most other series that I've seen. She's also just very likable due to her personality. Some of those odd expressions of hers had me cracking up at times, and chibi Sora in the eyecatch scenes is adorable. The art style, animation, and music are all beautiful, as everyone has said. I really like the clean look of the animation that the show uses, with just enough detail to make things look good but not overly complex. And I can't stop listening to Tattoo Kiss. Seriously, Last.fm tells me I listened to it 75 times last week, including the English and instrumental versions (I got the single for it).

Okay, I changed the Image Processing Library setting. That deals with avatars and attachment thumbnails and it's the only setting I could find related to this, so hopefully it should do something. Try re-uploading your avatar and see if it's any better now.
The only thing I would personally suggest would be raising the compression default for uploaded avatars. Low color ones, in particular, get compressed to Hell.
I'm not sure what you mean. When I upload an avatar, the file that gets put on the server and displayed is identical to the local file that I upload. No further compression happens in the uploading process.

There's a severe lack of the name Desbreko in this thread. Am I really that unloved? :animecry: Anyway, my list of people I'd like to meet, in order of whoever I happen to think of next: James: We share common interests, we work together on OB, and our AIM conversations are always enjoyable. It would be awesome to discuss where the site is headed over a game of Smash Bros. Alan: When I think of meeting Alan I get an image of myself dragging his drunken *** home after a night out on the town. . . . Maybe I should pass on this one after all. Shinmaru, Tony, Charles, Alex: It would be great fun to sit around playing games and BSing with these guys. Dagger: I want to raid her anime collection. But besides that, she's a great person and I wouldn't mind getting to know her better. I'm also sure I could find a bunch of series I'd enjoy but have never heard of with her help. Aaryanna, SunfallE, indifference, Aaryanna_Mom: My fanclub I'd like to meet, of course, as well as Mom. I could regale them with my striking wit and charming manner over coffee and tea. ;) GinnyLyn: She doesn't visit OB anymore, but we still exchange e-mails occasionally. She was one of my best and closest online friends and I'd love to meet her in person to catch up on things. Also, I wouldn't mind meeting most of the people I know decently well online, like Sara mentioned. Her, Shy, DeathKnight, White, Dragon Warrior, and a bunch of others that I'm too lazy to list off.

Huzzah! Quick reply is back in working order, and is now also using AJAX to post the reply without having to reload the entire thread. And to go along with it, quick edit is also working now, which lets you edit posts without having to load any new pages. Now shower me with praise, for I am so great and stuff.

For inserting links, I think the functionality of the Insert Link button is just different for the new version. If you type out a word first, highlight it, then click the Insert Link button it will keep that word as the link's text. Only if nothing is highlighted will it default to using the URL itself as the text. I'll look into the problem with the swear filter. Unfortunately, I think this has caused permanent damage to the threads in the Arena. Unless they changed the way the filter works in the new version, the software does a hard find and replace, so words that are starred out are just gone and removing the filter from those forums won't restore them. I'm not sure how we disabled the filter in only select forums in the first place, though, so this may take a bit to figure out if no one else remembers how we did it. Also: Alt+0151 on the number pad makes an em dash.

I'm able to upload stuff again -- I don't know why it didn't work before and why it is now, but it is -- so I've updated the worm. I converted all the png entries to high quality jpgs and added Darren's edited entry.

I changed the smiley box because it was extending even farther out of the layout than it was before and making the reply page look horrible. If I can find how to edit the width of the "Message:" table, to use some more of the room on its left and make the margins even, we might be able to fit three rows of smilies in again. Also, I'll probably be changing which smilies appear in the box, since people barely ever use the sleep and O-faced ones, but that will have to wait. Right now I'm trying to get Quick Reply to work again.

James' latest announcement was only set to be shown from June 27 to June 29, so that's why you can't find it anymore. I've no idea if that was intentional or not. Anyway, here's a little to do list of things we have/need to fix: [strike]Nav column backgrounds[/strike] [strike]Log Out links[/strike] [strike]Avatars in the postbit[/strike] [strike]Thread Tools and other drop-down menus[/strike] [strike]Thread View page width[/strike] [strike]Last Page links[/strike] [strike]Smilies box extending out of the Reply page layout[/strike] [strike]Custom avatar and profile picture uploading[/strike] [strike]Search this Forum boxes searching the entire site[/strike] [strike]Quick Reply[/strike] [strike]Quick Edit[/strike] [strike]Infraction features[/strike] [strike]Inline moderation features[/strike] [strike]Language filter in the Creative Works category[/strike] [strike]Various icon images[/strike] (I think I've gotten them all. PM me if you find anything I missed.) Am I missing anything? Please post if you guys find anything else that looks like it's a bug. Oh, and OB can send e-mail again for whatever reason, so I enabled the e-mail features again. Confirmation is required upon registration and the report bad post button works again, among other things. To the person having trouble with the site randomly logging you out: Clear your cookies and log in again, making sure that the Remember Me? box under the username and password fields is checked. I haven't had any problems with this or heard of anyone else that has, though, so I think it's most likely just an issue with the cookies. Edit: Avatars and profile pictures can be uploaded again. I'm not sure why this wasn't working before, but it seems to be related to not being able to upload anything via FTP either. Both problems went away at the same time. I did have to change the CHMOD permissions on the profile picture directory to get those to work though.

I use the standard editor and type out the tags and it never adds quotes or changes the tags to use angle brackets instead of square brackets. It must be something about highlighting and selecting from the menu and/or the WYSIWYG editor. I'll play around with it and see if I can find out what's up. HTML code is turned off in most forums so you shouldn't be able to type HTML into the post field and have it come out right, though, at least not in Otaku Lounge here. And for me it's converting line breaks in the text field fine even after switching to the WYSIWYG editor. Edit: I posted this with the WYSIWYG editor, then clicked the edit button and the font and color tags were normal; square brackets, no quotes. Is this still happening for you?

You don't need the original psd file to make such a small edit. It took me about five minutes to fix the alignment and colors. . . . So, yeah, please continue off of this image, Jeh. Also, I've gotten the previous png entries converted to jpg, but I'm having trouble uploading files. So I'm not able to replace those or do the update for Friday until I can upload files via FTP again. James, I'll PM you with the details after I post this.

I probably would've just not allowed png from the start if I'd known this was going to happen. I thought IE only had trouble with png transparency, though. I'll talk with Retri and see if he minds dropping png for this worm, and if not I'll probably just convert previous entries to jpg and edit the rules to only allow jpg and gif. A screen capture would be opening the image in IE and hitting the Prt Scr (print screen) key, which copies an image of what's displayed on your monitor to the clipboard, then pasting that into your graphics program. Or, alternately, right clicking the image in IE and selecting "Copy," then pasting that into your graphics program, will also result in the colors displaying wrong. Right clicking and selecting "Save Picture As," then opening the file in Photoshop did work for me (at least in IE6, I can't test in IE7), though, so if that's what you're doing I'm not sure what's going wrong. Go ahead and keep your entry as a jpg. IE is at least consistent with those, and if we end up dropping png it would just have to be converted anyway. Here's a jpg version of jigglyness's entry. You should match up your entry's colors to its, as it has the same colors that Photoshop and Firefox display for the png version.

First off, no, this was never a problem with the first graphic worm because all submissions were required to be in jpg format. So there were never any issues with png support. Maybe we should just drop png and only allow jpg and gif for this worm? If this continues to cause problems for people matching up colors I might have to do that. Anyway, the colors for Darren's entry match up in Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox. Again, this is because IE's support for png files is crap and it's making the colors on some png entries -- including jigglyness's -- darker than they should be. Opening the file in Photoshop and using the dropper tool on the bottom-right corner of jigglyness's entry gives the color #4D6798, while taking a screen capture of the worm in IE and using the dropper on the same pixel gives the color #415B8E, which is the same as on Darren's entry. Never, ever use a screen capture from Internet Explorer to compare colors, or preview your entry in Internet Explorer. Always save the previous entry to your hard drive and open it in your graphics program alongside your own entry to compare colors and preview it. IE is the devil and shouldn't ever be used at all when png files are involved. Also, one more little thing that needs to be changed, Darren, is shifting the entire image down one pixel to get the lines to match up, then filing in the top row of pixels. Right now there's one row of white pixels along the bottom that don't match up and are pushing the rest up out of alignment. The image quality and format is fine, though. The actual entry is plenty high quality, it's only the preview you posted of the two entries lined up that's grainy. You just need to make sure you're matching your entry's colors up to the previous entry's actual colors.

It's gotta be coffee for me. If I don't have any within a few hours of waking up, I get headaches easily later in the day until I get a cup or two in me, but I don't even feel the caffeine anymore. Most days I drink three or four cups. And I drink it black. None of this Starbucks crap though, which usually has an acidic edge to its flavor only slightly less than the cheap coffee you get in places like Denny's and other diners. For at home, my family buys good beans and we grind them ourselves just before using them. Out and about, the locally owned coffee houses kick the crap out of Starbucks and they aren't even any more expensive.
-
Once you get good at it, typing out the color tags is actually faster than highlighting and using the menu. It takes me about two or three seconds to type [color=#4B0082], and another one to type out the closing tag at the end of the post. It only gets really annoying when you start using a different color and font. I would like to install the plug-in for this once we upgrade, though. Just a matter of time before the next version of OB is done and we can switch over. *dangles booze and cigarettes in front of Alan* Faster, boy!

How Do You Submit E-Cards and other stuff on the otaku???? Tell Me!!!!!
Desbreko replied to a topic in Help & Feedback
I'm sorry, but if you can't take a bit of playful sarcasm you shouldn't be using internet forums. The little jabs you see here are nothing compared to the name calling and insults you'll find on many other boards when someone new overlooks something simple like this.
