  1. [quote name='2007DigitalBoy][COLOR=DarkOrange]I know nothing of hexadomical color, but I know Delta's [i]looks[/i'] significantly brighter[/COLOR][/quote][color=#4B0082]Okay, I figured this out. The solution: get Firefox. IE's support for png files is crap and it's screwing with the colors on some of the png segments. You can see this happening in the transition between cancer's and Ezekiel's segments as well, yet in Photoshop and Firefox the colors match up almost exactly.[/color]
  2. [quote name='Neuvoxraiha][COLOR=DarkOrchid][font=times]Wouldn't Desbreko also qualify for method number four? I think he would.[/font'][/COLOR][/quote][color=#4B0082]Almost, but not quite. I was already well known before my cult of fangirls really took off. This method fits me better: [b]Method 10: Be obsessive and proud of it.[/b] Find something to obsess about -- something [i]other[/i] than Naruto and Kingdom Hearts, mind you -- and display your obsession proudly. The more eccentric the obsession is, the more likely you are to get noticed. Take every opportunity to display a wide range of knowledge about your object of obsession, make references to it frequently, and find ways to relate it to other subjects of conversation. Keep it up consistently and you'll build a reputation as, "that person who's crazy about...." If your obsession happens to match up with one of the forums you'll also have a decent chance of becoming a moderator this way. Just be careful not to come off as a stupid fanboy/girl. [i]Your mentors:[/i] Desbreko, Aaryanna, Charles[/color]
  3. [color=#4B0082]I think it was Jokopoko and Ezekiel who were part of Viva Otaku/MAMA and then became moderators. It certainly wasn't due to the complaint thread, though. I ignored that entirely when searching for new mods to fill out the Arena's staff. And like indifference mentioned, she also got promoted around the same time, contrary to the thread calling for her dismissal, which makes it pretty obvious that neither I or James were influenced by it.[/color]
  4. [color=#4B0082]Oh my. Geisha is looking pretty nice now. I'm really liking the black with the indigo on the front page -- more of that, please! The new sidebar background is awesome, now it just needs an updated banner to match. I'm actually liking this enough to start using it instead of OB Standard. P.S. People who post in size 1 font have no right to complain about anything being too small.[/color]

  6. [color=#4B0082]Google and eBay provide search results of web pages and auctions that other people have posted. So just because a bunch of other people misspelled it too doesn't make it right. lol I find Anime News Network's encyclopedia and Wikipedia tend to be the most reliable with anime names. (Assuming the anime has a page on Wikipedia.) If in doubt, check those two. Also: *merges threads*[/color]
  7. [color=#4B0082]I'd like to learn the dance and, if I did learn it and had some way to record myself, I'd definitely upload an entry. But, like with so many other things, it's not exactly a high priority so I haven't bothered yet. Most likely I never will 'cause I'm lazy that way. Oh well. Mainly I'd want to learn it because it would be the perfect thing to bust out when my alpha geek dominance is questioned.[/color]
  8. [color=#4B0082]DB's blue is very slightly off from Ozy's blue, but I didn't even notice until Revelation mentioned it and I checked their RGB values. Ozy's is [color=#4040FF]#4040FF[/color] and DB's is [color=#4542F8]#4542F8[/color]. The orange matches up exactly. Delta's black matches up with Jeremiah's perfectly though, with both being [color=#222222]#222222[/color]. To check color values, at least in Photoshop, I select the pencil or bucket tool or something and hold in Alt to change it to the dropper tool. Then I click on one image's color and look at the RGB values in the Color window (which also has tabs for Swatches and Styles). Then I repeat with the other image's color and watch to see if the values change. From the Color window I can also do Copy Color as HTML to get the color's hexidecimal value, which I've been using here to show the colors in my posts. In Paint Shop Pro the process is pretty much the same, it's just that the interface is somewhat different. The main thing to remember is to compare the RGB values, and make sure you're comparing the values of the compressed image and not the uncompressed .psd or .psp file.[/color]
  9. [color=#4B0082]Sorry about that everyone. It was a stupid little mistake -- a typo in the statusicon image folder's name -- but I didn't have time to double check or revert anything before I had to leave. It's embarrassing that I even made the mistake in the first place. :animeblus That wouldn't have had anything to do with slowdown on the site, though. If anything I'd think it would've made it faster because it wasn't loading as many images. Also, Jeh is silly and posted the announcement for June 18 when, for most of the rest of the world, it was still June 17. So that's why it wasn't showing up. :p[/color]
  10. [color=#4B0082]That couldn't be v4 because I'm listed as a super moderator, which I didn't become until v5. That's v6 that you linked to, Nerdsy. Okay, so here's how you can tell the versions apart, regardless of their skins. Version 1: This was at theotaku.com/forums wasn't it? It didn't use the otakuboards.com URL from what I hear. I wasn't actually around back then and I haven't found an archived page of it. [url=http://web.archive.org/web/20010801161016/www.otakuboards.com/ultimatebb.cgi][u]Version 2:[/u][/url] Ran on UBB instead of vB like subsequent versions. [url=http://web.archive.org/web/20010922080426/http://otakuboards.com/][u]Version 3:[/u][/url] Ran on vB and super moderators aren't listed in the category headers. [url=http://web.archive.org/web/20020326013352/http://otakuboards.com/][u]Version 4:[/u][/url] Super mods are listed in the category headers and kuja or no one is in charge of Series Otaku. [url=http://web.archive.org/web/20020523131242/http://www.otakuboards.com/][u]Version 5:[/u][/url] Desbreko is a super moderator in charge of Series Otaku. [url=http://web.archive.org/web/20020923070122/http://otakuboards.com/][u]Version 6:[/u][/url] Categories now have the word Otaku first. So, instead of, "Series Otaku," the category is known as, "Otaku Series." Also, category names are centered in the headings. Version 6 went through a few changes during its life, including skins and forum structure, but those two things remained the same. [url=http://web.archive.org/web/20040806080436/http://www.otakuboards.com/][u]Version 7:[/u][/url] Has the layout we're all familiar with, with the left navigation column.[/color]
  11. [color=#4B0082]Version 4 was blue/purple/gray and seemed, for some reason, to be one of the least popular skins we've had. (Super Mario Sunshine wasn't released till just before the switch to v5, by the way. I remember working on ShineGet.com while OB was down for a month between versions.) Personally, I liked it more than anything prior to v7. Version 5 and 6 kind of blend together in my memory. I remember v5 was a big change from v4, but beyond that I don't remember its appearance too much. Maybe I was too high on being a newly appointed super moderator to remember or something. v6 was the red one I'm pretty sure, and I think it also changed some part way through its life, like v7 has done. I'm still disappointed that the Zelda: The Wind Waker skin never came together. James showed me some of the graphics he was working on for it at the time and it looked like it would've been a nice combination of green, blue, and white.[/color]
  12. [color=#4B0082]For anyone who can't see the new graphics, if you're using... ...Firefox, hold in the Shift key and click Reload (or use Shift+F5). ...Internet Explorer, hold in the Ctrl key and click Refresh (or use Ctrl+F5). This re-downloads the page from the server instead of using cached files.[/color]
  13. [color=#4B0082]I've been on YouTube quite a bit lately, but mostly uploading and checking up on my own videos. I've been making boss fight recordings from Zelda: A Link to the Past and Super Metroid. I just finished the Super Metroid bosses yesterday, so now I need to decide on a new game to do. Playlists for my Zelda and Metroid boss videos: [url=http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=851CEB232B0011D1][u]Zelda LttP - All bosses - No damage[/u][/url] [url=http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=D88C06F084AD2896][u]Super Metroid - All bosses[/u][/url] Some of my favorites that I've seen around the site: [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dxOBv9QDoc][img]http://img.youtube.com/vi/1dxOBv9QDoc/2.jpg[/img] [b]Napoleon Dynamite 2: Las Plagas[/b][/url] Footage from Resident Evil 4 set to audio from Napoleon Dynamite. Need I say more? The combination is hilarious. [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqzB_nJMMOk][img]http://img.youtube.com/vi/UqzB_nJMMOk/2.jpg[/img] [b]$ony's E3 Press Conference in 2 Minutes[/b][/url] Sony's E3 2006 press conference edited down to only two minutes. Amazingly enough, it retains most of the relevant info. [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R98qC0fd_1w][img]http://img.youtube.com/vi/R98qC0fd_1w/2.jpg[/img] [b]PS3 Song[/b][/url] To go along with the previous one, a humorous song about how Sony killed their PlayStation brand. It's incredibly catchy.[/color]
  14. [color=#4B0082]I've always thought mind games to be stuff like faking your opponent out by following a pattern for a while, then switching things up to nail them when they get used to countering that pattern. Or, in other words, making them think you're going to do a certain move so that they'll try to counter it, then countering their counter with something different from what they expected. I wouldn't count trash talking as a mind game. That's just harassment meant to distract them. lol[/color]
  15. [color=#4B0082]OS-tans took over my desktop about a month ago. I run Windows 2000 and Firefox so I thought the primary display's wallpaper was fitting. 98-tan is just pretty. [URL=http://img223.imageshack.us/my.php?image=destopostanfv4.jpg][IMG]http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/718/destopostanfv4.th.jpg[/IMG][/URL] It's been almost a year and my desktop is . . . nearly identical to how it was in my last post here. I'm using different wallpapers, obviously, and I have more stuff in my system tray, but that's about it. Explorer, Firefox, Winamp, and Trillian are about the only things I ever launch directly from the desktop. Everything else I use frequently is in the first level of the start menu where I can access it easily while other windows are open. System tray stuff, from left to right: Printer control center, volume control, LAN connection, Nvidia settings, AVG Anti-virus, PeerGuardian, uTorrent (currently seeding Lucky Star ep10), Winamp (currently playing Motteke! Sailor Fuku), Last.fm[/color]
  16. [quote name='The Blue Jihad']Include the artwork being discussed, which is nowhere near as meaningless or incidental as you make it out to be.[/quote][color=#4B0082]Hmm, I suppose you're right. I mean, all the threads about clean anime do have lots of screen shots posted all through them to illustrate the discussions. . . . Oh wait, no they don't.[/color]
  17. [color=#4B0082]Actually, previous versions had a wider post area than v7 does. Not only did they use a variable width layout (so resolutions higher than 800x600 had a wider area), they also didn't have a nav column on the left side. The postbit was contained on the left, but I don't think it was as wide. As it is, the post area is 580 pixels wide once you subtract the cell padding. (I could be off by a pixel or two, but close enough.) So, for now at least, banners wider than about 550 pixels aren't really feasible. The next version will expand to a 1024 width layout so there'll be more horizontal space, but whether or not the post area itself will be much wider I'm not sure. Personally, I wouldn't mind the banner size limit being upped to 550x120, but I think anything taller than that starts to become an eyesore. Especially when multiple lines of text start being added to the signature and it ends up taking more space than most posts. Because really, it's supposed to be a signature, not some grand work of art. As for avatars, there's about 50 free pixels between the left edge of the avatar and the [Add Me as a Friend] text in the postbit. We could go up to 180x100 or so, but much taller and it's going to start looking bad to have the avatar stretching the postbit vertically. Not to mention it's yet more scrolling that people have to do between posts. I really doubt avatar sizes are going to change any time soon, though, considering all the work people have put into building our gallery of 150x80 avatars. I'm not terribly concerned about the 56k issue though. If you notice when loading a thread, the layout and post text loads first, then the avatars and banners load. (Or at least that's how it's always been for me.) So 56k users should still be able to read threads without much if any added load time, it'll just take longer for them to see people's banners.[/color]
  18. [QUOTE=DeadSeraphim][size=1][color=indigo][font=arial]The kind of quality you can expect from hentai discussions would be pretty hardcore. I mean, this [i]is[/i] OtakuBoards, even if they're just saying "damn that's hott", they'll stretch it out into a "The digital colouring on the tentacles really works well in contrast with the lighter shade they used on the skin around her arsehole, making this picture damn hott, but I'd never masturbate to it cause this is OtakuBoards and everyone here is a saint who'd never do anything morally wrong and if they do they hide it viciously." That's the kind of responses you'd get. Ad nauseum. Never underestimate the stubborn pigheadedness our members display in sticking to the antiquated rules.[/font][/color][/size][/QUOTE][color=#4B0082]Oh damn, that was hot. If we actually could expect all the replies to be like that I think I'd change my mind about a hentai forum.[/color] [quote name='BKstyles][FONT=Tahoma']It's just bewildering to me how some people are still actually convinced there's a possibility of a hentai forum being put up. The purpose of this thread is long since finished.[/FONT][/quote][color=#4B0082]I don't think that's really the point, or at least not anymore. Especially not for me. I replied because I was bored and didn't have anything else to do. :whoops:[/color]
  19. [color=#4B0082]Oh yes, of course. Hentai is going to generate some real quality discussion. I've browsed 4chan and other sites, I know what kind of comments hentai pics get. Maybe one in fifty meet the quality standards we have here. And it's not that there's refusal to change and grow, but you have to look at where that growth is coming from. I mean, we could relax our quality standards and open up a spam/flaming forum and I'm sure we'd attract more members. But do we want to grow into yet another spammy forum with no standards? I certainly don't want to see OB turn into that. For those of you who remember the picture forum, where members posted pictures of themselves, that's what a hentai forum would be like; nothing but pics and spam. I have no doubt that a hentai forum would be by far the spammiest forum on OB, and that's not how we want to grow. I don't remember ever mentioning morals in my arguments, though. Maybe you can point me to the post where I said ogling hentai pics would morally debase the site? :catgirl:[/color]
  20. [color=#4B0082]Oh, sorry. I guess I forgot to mention this, but the Super Nads are actually the Lord of Nightmares' weapons and are imbued with her power. So, you know, trying a Giga Slave on them would be like trying a Dragon Slave on Shabranigdo. "Can you help me kill you?" :p[/color]
  21. [color=#4B0082]Well, what else are people going to do in a hentai forum that can't already be done in the Anime Lounge? As demonstrated by the discussion currently running in there, people are free to talk about hentai, they just aren't allowed to post pics. Posting hentai pics is the [i]only[/i] thing people would gain from a separate hentai forum. And, like I said, a forum created for the sole reason of posting pics for people to ogle isn't what OB is for. There are other sites much better set up for that, which are actually focused on the sharing of images.[/color]
  22. [color=#4B0082]1) There's this thing called humor. It takes thought and creativity to pull off. 2) Making a pencil drawn portrait and some rather nice looking banners is plenty creative. 3) We're not even talking about [i]creating[/i] erotic art. We're talking about people posting whatever the heck they find on the internet and deem fap-worthy.[/color]
  23. [quote name='Allamorph][FONT=Arial']I'm just trying to get a feel for how this will look on the screen, and whether readers will be able to easily jump from heading to heading if they don't wish to read, say, Creative Works, or if they want to go in a different order.[/FONT][/quote][color=#4B0082]I suggest you guys make use of the [aname] and [alink] tags for easy navigation between headings. ([url=http://www.otakuboards.com/misc.php?do=bbcode#alink][u]Click here to see how to use them.[/u][/url]) I made them mainly for use in stickies like the thread directories but they'd work great for this as well.[/color]
  24. [color=#4B0082]I think people are missing something here that goes deeper than the argument of, "It's porn so it's not allowed on OB." The fact is, OB is a discussion forum, not an image board. It doesn't matter if it's hentai, pictures of clouds, or any other thing you want to pick, OB is not a place for people to post image after image with nothing more than, "omg that's so hot," to go with them. That completely clashes with the focus of the site. Yes, we have forum games as well, and you can point to the picture caption games and argue that those are no better. But if you look at which games have and haven't been allowed over the years, it's always the ones that require zero or close to no thought that get shut down. Caption games require creativity and humor, three word stories do not -- guess which one gets closed. A discussion about hentai (like the one going on in Anime Lounge right now) requires some knowledge and thought be put into posts, a forum to post images and go, "omg that's hot," does not -- guess which one isn't allowed. OB values discussion and creativity, not mindless posting of words or images.[/color]
  25. [color=#4B0082]The colors still don't match up. Are you comparing the raw file (presumably a psd or psp) to DB's entry, or the compressed file (jpg or png)? Depending on your compression settings the colors can change slightly. DB's entry uses [color=#008000]#008000[/color] for the green and [color=#800000]#800000[/color] for the red. Your entry is using [color=#007500]#007500[/color] for the green and [color=#740000]#740000[/color] for the red, both of which are slightly darker. I went ahead and fixed the colors on your entry (a simple flood-fill did the trick), so if you don't mind I can just put it up in the next update. I'll attach the file so you can check it out.[/color]
