Well, Gavin, I hear that when Dagger was hired as an admin, this is how it went down.

Yeah . . . we're still running 3.0.3. I don't think we're able to install it since the description says to import its xml file through the Admin CP product manager, which doesn't exist in 3.0.3.

If something like this has already been suggested and I missed it, sorry. I kind of skimmed some parts of the thread. :catgirl: I think it might be a good idea to have a separate freelancer thread where anyone on OB could submit articles to the paper, and then the editors could decide on which ones to use. It would be a good place for people to just submit an article here and there, and also a good way for people to show they have the skill and motivation to become a regular writer if they're interested.

You think you've found their fatal weakness, but you are mistaken. The nads you seek to destroy are merely a physical manifestation of the power of the Super Nads. Their immaterial souls live on eternally, unaffected by anything mere mortals could conjure in this world. Strike them down and they shall become more powerful than you can ever imagine, their wrath awakened. They will return harder, better, faster, stronger than before to crush the fool who dared stand against them.

I don't suppose you remember what the mod is called? That does sound like a better way to deal with the bots.

Your image is 599x450. Please make it 600x450. Also, the shades of green and red don't match with the previous entry.

I must've missed it. When did the Suggestions & Feedback forum turn into Adventure Square's playground?

Right click, View Page Source: For all your code-stealing needs. Really, if you can't understand how they did something by looking at the code they used, it's unlikely that someone will be able to explain it to you. Which means you need to learn more about HTML, CSS, or JavaScript, depending on what they used to do it.
[B]Whatever we do, we need to do it fast, to stop threads like these from ever seeing the face of the boards.[/B']
That's easy to say. But I can't install those two mods until we upgrade to the latest version of vB, which won't happen till OB Evolution launches, and there's no way to edit the current image-to-text thing. Even requiring a few posts before a new member can post a new thread may not work very well, since as Dead mentioned bots can easily be configured to post a couple times first, or just post in an existing thread to begin with. We aren't just sitting and twiddling our thumbs, though. As you can see, that thread you linked to is already gone. Staff are keeping on top of things and deleting spam threads and I've banned quite a few IP and e-mail addresses to help stem the flow of new bots.

There's actually a modification for vB that I've been wanting to install to stop the spam bots, but I'm not able to until we upgrade to vB 3.5. (We're running 3.0 currently.) What it does is keep track of the amount of time it takes a new member to register. Real people will take a couple minutes to fill in their username, password, e-mail address, etc., but a bot will do it in less than a second. So if the mod sees that the registration form has been submitted too quickly it blocks that member from registering. There's also another mod that's basically a compilation of a bunch of IP and e-mail addresses from known spammers that it blocks. But, again, I can't install it until we upgrade to vB 3.5. Those two should provide good protection from spam bots without limiting real members at all. So, while the suggestion here is possible, I'd want to see they do the trick before resorting to methods that would affect real people as well. As for the birthday greetings, I don't think it's possible to customize them without a mod. (I couldn't find anything in the admin control panel to change them beyond turning them on and off.) I'd have to look around and see if there are any available to do that sort of thing, but it's not a bad idea. We could select a new e-card from theOtaku each month to be sent out in the e-mails, or something like that.

Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread

The Padded Room Party had more replies, but alas, it's no longer with us. I wish the thread were still around just so people could see the horror of it all. -
Yeah, duoikari's is being skipped.

Hey, I just wanted to let you guys know I'm going to be updating the worm on Mondays and Fridays. So that's when you can expect to see your submissions added to it. Also, the last image doesn't match up. Like, at all. Please remember to preview your entries next to the previous one and make sure it matches up before submitting them.
So. Secretly, we've all thought about it. If you had your own TV show, or you just had a song magically follow you every where... what would your theme song be?
I already have a song that does that. Like, seriously, every time I step outside it starts up. And I still can't figure out where the heck it comes from. And thus I did it. . . . I don't really have much else to add to what you two have already said about episode 6, though. You guys covered just about everything. I liked the scene with Konata, Kagami, and Tsukasa floating in the water, hanging off Konata's inner tube. It was cute without looking like it was trying to be cute, if you get what I mean. Nothing big, but it was a nice little touch.

There used to be a lot more Guild Wars players around here back when Prophecies was new and the Quantum Kabuki Troupe was thriving. (Man I miss those days, it was such a fun guild.) Barely anyone from OB plays anymore though. The only people I see around are Alex (aka Papa Smurf, aka Brasil), Boo, and occasionally James and Chaos. Even I've been playing less lately, though I've no doubt I'll be hooked again when Eye of the North is released, if not sooner.

I'm glad you all enjoyed it. :catgirl:

It basically just means slapping together some HTML to go on a new page that will be part of OB. If you look at the rules page the four headings (Introduction, Spam, Signature Restrictions, Banning) and their content -- everything between the header and the footer -- are a template. So we can stick pretty much whatever we want into that space on a new template. I was thinking we could just use a similar layout, with headings to explain what the worm is along with a link to it, and one to explain how to contribute along with a link to its Art Studio thread. I'd really rather not list contributors on the page since that would require updating the template every time a new image is added to the worm. I'll whip up the template tomorrow and then you guys can let me know if you want anything tweaked or added. And if we (by which I mean Alan) go ahead and write a script for updating the worm automatically I can add the interface for that in too. Oh, and Retri, can you e-mail me the HTML page and images for the worm? I'll need those to be able to upload them onto OB.
-
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work in a template page. I'm pretty sure you can slap PHP code in there and it'll run it before spitting out the page's HTML to the client, and you can add things to the page's head section as well as the body.
-
Probably the best way to do it would be to have a page with information on what the worm is, how to contribute (with a link to its thread), etc., along with a link to a separate page that the worm itself would be on. If we don't want to make a whole new web page for it I could just make a custom template, which would be similar to the rules page. So we could have the info page at www.otakuboards.com/graphicworm.php and the actual worm at www.otakuboards.com/graphicworm/ or something like that.

They aren't the formal definitions, which you listed, but that's how many creationists use the words. That's why it's important to define the terms and know how they're being used before jumping into an arguement. Under the formal definitions the micro and macro prefixes are simply describing the amount of change; one small change (micro), or lots of small changes that have added up (macro). Under the non-standard definitions they describe the type of change; variation within a species without any new genetic material (micro), or variation from new genetic material to the point of creating a new species (macro). And yes, I too wish people would stop using the words incorrectly and just come up with new terms. But they haven't yet, so we just have to deal it.
-
Here's the definitions of microevolution and macroevolution, and the rationale behind them being separate processes, that I've most commonly seen: Microevolutionary changes in a species don't require any new genetic information (DNA). The information required for an emerging trait, such as a bird's beak becoming harder or a human producing lactase, is already present in the species' DNA. Macroevolutionary changes, on the other hand, do require new genetic information. Larger scale changes, such as the evolution of birds from reptiles, would require huge amounts of new genetic information because reptile DNA just doesn't contain the information necessary for many avian traits. Given this, it's impossible for macroevolution to simply be the accumulation of microevolutionary changes since microevolution doesn't add any new information to a species' DNA. Therefore they must be two different processes. I really don't care to get into a pointless debate of throwing sources back and forth while knowing full well that nothing I say will change anyone's mind. But if people are going to argue, at least define your terms. lol

OtakuBoards isn't a chat room, don't treat it like one plz. Threads should have a specific topic outlined in the first post. Also, for more info on how things work around here, you should read the site's rules and the posting guidelines sticky thread at the top of the forum. Have fun, and if you've got any questions feel free to PM one of the moderators. Thread Closed

Okay, deep breaths, deep breaths. . . . OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!1!11!!1!1one1one :animestun Final Fantasy IV is getting a 3D remake on the Nintendo DS in the same way that FFIII did! I'm stupidly happy about this since FFIV is my favorite in the series and I absolutely love the way they handled the FFIII remake. Even though I already own FFIV Advance I know I'm going to buy this one straight off. N-Sider posted a news article about it, which contains some screen shots. Like FFIII, they look pretty amazing for the DS. I can't wait for more info.
