Wouldn't that line of thinking also apply to professional sports, though? Or really anything that you enjoy and can make into a career? I would think that most people would love to get paid for doing something they enjoy. Sure, it wouldn't be as fun as doing it on your own time, at your own pace, but it's definitely better than a job you dislike.

Wow, I think episode 5 is actually my favorite so far. I could list off the things I like about it but I'd probably end up writing a summary of the entire episode. The uber-cuteness of the girls in their yukatas and other summer clothes (agreed, DigitalBoy; they've got some great outfits), combined with lots of things that made me laugh, added up to make this my favorite. In particular, a couple things that made me totally crack up: First, the
in-game chatting between Konata and Nanako in the MMO. The use of the smilies and whatnot was awesome and Konata likening it to getting yelled at by Kagami everyday really topped it off
. Second, the electric fan scene. I don't think it needs any explanation, but Konata is right, it is the normal thing to do. Everyone has done it at some time or another and deep down we all love it. It also didn't hurt that Konata was really, really, really ridiculously cute looking while standing in front of the fan, her hair blowing around out behind her. That right there rivaled even the cuteness of her in a yukata and the big pink bow in her hair. And I actually recognized the ED song! Not because I've seen Dragon Ball, but because it was used as the background music for the end boss of Zeldarius (a little freeware game that I've played a lot). It was like two references rolled into one for me. :2women:

Sheik annoys the crap out of me for exactly that reason, yeah. She can juggle people so easy it isn't even funny. I barely play on her and even I can keep people suspended in tilt-A combos without much trouble. I understand the feeling, though. I've been criticized for switching from Link to Marth as my primary just because Marth is a high tier character. It can be annoying, but Marth fits my playstyle better, so whatever. Either ignore them or get good on a secondary so you can pwn them with someone like Jigglypuff if they complain. :p

Any more news about the change of directors? I looked around a bit but couldn't find anything new. I'm curious what episode 5 will be like now. The preview of it at the end of episode 4 nearly made me squeal like a schoolgirl, seeing the girls in all their cuteness wearing kimonos. I hope Takemoto does a good job with it. As for episode 4 itself, it was pretty good. It didn't have as many laugh-out-loud moments (I know I missed a couple references, so maybe that had something to do with it) but it seemed a bit more consistant in keeping a smile on my face. The back and forth teasing between Konata and Kagami was as good as always and continues to remind me a lot of myself and a friend. One part that did make me laugh, though, was when
Konata set her alarm for 5:00 AM, was unable to sleep, and then just layed there, face down with her arm hanging off the bed, after the alarm went off
. That happens to me so freaking much, I can completely relate to the feeling of utter loathing for the alarm and morning in general.

I'd love to help, but no one on OB can really fix this, besides maybe jblessing. (And I have no idea how busy he is right now or if he's still working on theOtaku/myOtaku.) You'll probably have better luck in getting this fixed by either PMing or e-mailing Adam or Massin on myOtaku.

I was a super moderator here by the time I was 15. If I made mistakes I had James to answer to. :p I've been here since September 6, 2001. I joined when I was 13, so I fit right in with the spamfest that made up early OB version 3. When quality standards started rising I rose with them and became a moderator about five months later on February 14, 2002. (I'd be lying if I said I wasn't trying to get the job, but I was smart and did it subtly. :catgirl:) It was the best valentines gift I'd ever received. . . . So, yeah, I've been around here as part of the staff ever since. I joined myOtaku a few days after it opened, mainly to reserve my screen name since I didn't -- and still don't -- post on blogs very often. I've had more fun making my site look pretty than I've had posting on it. I tend to post rather infrequently about random stuff that I'm doing or thinking about.

I would've just done this in my room except I was lacking a giant plushie. So I recruited a friend and she let me get a shot of her room. That's a live gecko she's holding, by the way; I also have close-ups of it.

The tiers are based on tournament results, not so much on how good a character supposedly is. So of course you can do well with lower tier characters, they just aren't as popular. (Which makes winning with them all the sweeter, I find. I always love owning friends' Foxes/Falcos with my Ganondorf.) Whether that's because people generally prefer the higher tier characters or because the lower tier characters just suck can be hard to say. Guess I forgot to mention my secondaries, but they're pretty much the same as they were earlier in the thread: Link, Samus, and Ganondorf. Roy used to be in there too, but after getting good with Marth I found it hard to switch back and forth between the two, so Roy barely sees any play now. I've tried to get into using Falco off and on but the hyper speed playstyle isn't really my thing.

Well, the first few pages of this thread are about three years old. It's kind of expected that things would be outdated by now. As well, I'm a lot more knowledgeable about the game and much, much better than I was back then. From what I've seen in videos of tournament matches, I think I could probably hold my own in competitive matches now, provided I had other people to practice against. (Not having any means of transportation makes it pretty much impossible to take part in tournaments, since there are none where I live.) Marth is my primary character now and, while I still rarely get to fight real people, I can make good use of a lot of the techniques I see in videos and I've come up with a few tricks of my own as well. I've got the technical side of things down pretty well but there's no replacement for real experience. :animesigh
...so tell me. What do you have? Do you actually know what you're getting into, or are you a 12 year old with grand ambitions?
And the profile says...
Birthday: October 15, 1990
...16-year-old with grand ambitions! Unforunately, four years off is too far to win a prize. Better luck next time, 2007DigitalBoy. Anyway, this thread breaks the no advertising rule, so I'm going to have to close it. Please read the site rules before posting, poopypu, and remember to be mindful of the sticky threads in each forum.
But... if the site admin came here and even posted, but didn't close it, does that mean it's safe to post here? I don't know - the last thing I need is to get in trouble again by asking :animestun :animesigh :animesmil
Since he edited the post to make it more than just a, "Hey, look at me, I'm new!" thread, I didn't really see a need to close it. I also try not to crush the spirit of people who have the potential to become quality members. It's not every day you see someone come back to their intro thread after reading the rules, post an apology, and add a real subject to the thread, you know? Oh, and yes, that does mean people who fail to demonstrate any potential with their first few posts are fair game for spirit crushing. :toothy:

Heh, good to see you've read the rules, even if a wee bit late. Welcome to the boards. And you might know me by my "What Color Link Are You?" quiz, which I noticed you had displayed on your myOtaku page. It's always good to see more Zelda fans around here. :triforce: I don't think there are any big fads currently raging on around here, but you can check out the Members and their !Popularity! thread a little farther down in the forum to see who's made a name for themselves.

The Super NES is home to the holy trinity of Nintendo classics: Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Super Metroid; all are arguably the best in their series. These three remain to this day among my all time favorite games, along with a few other SNES titles. Me and my brothers played our SNES so much that, despite taking good care of our controllers, one of them wore out from the sheer amount of use it got. Also, the Nintendo 64 was the undisputable king of multiplayer gaming during the 90s. Nothing else could top a line-up that included games like Mario Kart 64, GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark, Mario Party (back when the series wasn't completely stale), and the crown jewel of Super Smash Bros. Having four built-in controller ports helped a lot too.
Cute banner/av, Des! Motteke! Sailor Fuku ~Michael Jackson Version~
Thanks. I think it captures Konata's character pretty well. :catgirl: And that Michael Jackson parody is just scary. Partly because it fits so well. . . . Lots of great things about episode three. Like I expected, the show's been getting better as it goes along. I hope that continues. The way Konata is always teasing Kagami, and Konata's reactions to Kagami getting mad about it, is hilarious. Episode three had plenty of that and it was great fun to watch their personalities bounce off one another. Konata's comment about Tsukasa's and Kagami's favorite colors, in particular, made me laugh. Tsukasa with
her hair in a ponytail
was way too cute, by the way. Lucky Channel finally made me bust out laughing. It had made me chuckle before but the part where
Akira mentions that Minoru is sitting farther away, Minoru scoots closer, and then Akira scoots away the same amount
caught me totally off guard. That look of, "Wait a minute..." on Minoru's face was priceless. I had to pause the episode for a moment while laughing so I wouldn't miss the subtitles.
Considering we're debating the definition of the phrase "Anime Fan"... why not break it down? We all know what "Anime" means, and that leaves...
fan2 /fæn/ [fan] ?noun an enthusiastic devotee, follower, or admirer of a sport, pastime, celebrity, etc.: a baseball fan; a great fan of Charlie Chaplin. [Origin: 1885?90, Americanism; short for fanatic] ?Synonyms supporter, enthusiast, partisan, booster, addict. Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006.
Now that we have that in the air... although the word "fan" was originally short for "fanatic" and can be defined as "an enthusiastic devotee", the word has grown and changed since its humble beginnings and can now mean simply an admirer.
It's good to see that someone actually went back to the definition of "fan" and worked from there. To add a bit to this, the definition actually allows for someone to be an anime fan even if they dislike every anime series ever made. Anime being a style of animation, all they have to do to be considered an anime fan is admire that style, not the shows themselves. Thus, throwing around specific titles, number of shows watched, or amount of interest is completely irrelevant in determining whether or not someone in an anime fan.
We have the [report bad post'] button for a reason, yo.
Which is currently disabled due to OB's e-mail server being screwy. :animecry: Being serious for a second, people should PM a staff member if they see something out of line, rather than posting about it in the thread itself. It makes our job easier because we can just deal with the real issue in the thread without having to slog through complaints about the spam, and it's also likely to get the problem taken care of sooner. Edit: I get man-slaves and fangirls -- can't forget the fangirls. :toothy:

Funnily enough, the general discussion forum has pretty much always been the most active forum, closely followed by the RPG forum, with the anime forum(s) a somewhat distant third. I suppose OtakuBoards is technically an anime forum, but as long as I've been here it's never been the only major focus of the site. General dicussion, RPGs, and gaming have all been prominent features ever since version 3.

I kind of figured that Kyon telling Haruhi about the others must've had something to do with the movie they made for the school festival. It seems like Haruhi wouldn't have taken Kyon seriously, judging by her actions later in the chronological order. But isn't it just a bit too convenient for Mikuru's, Yuki's, and Itsuki's roles to match up like that?

DS games still come on cartridges, though they're different than GBA cartridges. DS games are similar in appearance to SD memory cards, only a bit bigger. But yes, like Panda said, the DS has two cartridge slots. The one on top of the system plays DS games while the bottom one plays GBA games. Which can be handy for taking two different games with you without having to pack around extra cartridges outside the system.
Anywho, I like the way they decribe Konata's face 'super awesome!!!'. They sound so much like my friends and I, it becomes scary.
Heh, so I'm not the only one who's been getting that feeling. I've actually done that to my friends -- made them totally crack up just by making a face -- on more than one occasion. Like you mentioned, it's great how the show takes those weird little conversations we all have at some point with our friends and uses them for hilarity. I'm a lot happier with episode 2. Sticking on one topic for most of the first episode really didn't do justice to the random, odd humor that I love about this kind of anime. More references were also good, though none of them had me laughing as much as the SFII one; it's going to be hard to top that. I didn't recognize the 3D fighter that Konata was playing though. It looked like it might've been Virtua Fighter or Tekken, but I'm not especially familiar with the newer 3D fighters. My favorite part had to be when they were back after vacation and the teacher was giving her little spiel about how it must not have felt like much of a vacation, but she did her best to have fun during the break. Konata's response to that made me laugh. Edit: It's amazing how much difference a quality subtitle job makes. Even if Lucky Channel gets them out first, I'm going to be waiting for a.f.k. from now on. :animesigh
