My fossil collection is complete. ^_^ But fossils are by far the easiest section of the museum to complete. You just have to play long enough to dig up one of each type. My collection of fish is also nearing completion, though. I think I'm currently only missing ten, most of which I have to wait till September (only a few days away) to be able to catch.

I'm not sure if you guys know this or not, but you can tell where houses can go up when villagers move in. Any place there's a sign, that's a spot where a villager can move in. So it's a good idea to avoid planting stuff within two or three spaces of a sign.

Yeah, it's not just there for you to steal other people's stuff, you know. You dirty thief. So, guess whose house is completely paid off. Yep, that's right; no more mortgage payments for me. I finally slapped down the final 900k to pay off the final upgrade today. Of course, now I'm almost broke. . . . But that's nothing a little fishing won't fix.

You know, that's one thing that really annoys me about ACWW; the fact that you can only have so much stuff in a room. In AC, you could fill up every single space in your house if you wanted to, but now you're limited in ACWW. There've been times where I've wanted to put down more furniture but couldn't, even though there was still plenty of space to walk around in the room. And yes, I have customized my town tune. I'm using the opening snippet from the Ballad of the Wind Fish, from Zelda: Link's Awakening. The timing on it is a bit faster than it should be, since I don't get enough spaces to draw out the notes, but I think it's still pretty good. Ballad of the Wind Fish (by Desbreko) gcG-gcG- Gebc-e-z Everywhere there's a dash, there should be two dashes. And on the first line there should be a pause after the dashes. As such, the tune sounds best on the hourly bell, which is more drawn out. Oh, and Bill, Bree wants to know if you've always been such a "bug freak." Her words, not mine. :p

I dunno, I'm pretty sure I was getting a different message before, when I didn't have as many trees. And after I got all my fruit trees planted I had tons of them around everywhere. The only open area is a little patch around in the front of my house, where not much will grow. I even have palm trees lining the beach.

I tried for weeks to get my town to be perfect, but never managed it. The message I got at the civic center was that the town needed more green, I think it was--the one that means you need more flowers. So I set off to fill my town with flowers. And fill it I did, with a half dozen large flower beds and lots of flowers around every house and anywhere else I could fit them. I put flowers everywhere that I wasn't going to be running through with any regularity. I went through my entire town each and every day, watering any of them that had turned brown. And still, my town needed more green. After a while I came to the conclusion that it couldn't just be that my town needed more flowers. I had flowers up the wazoo. That it must've been something more that I was missing. But I couldn't think of anything else, and I couldn't find anything online, so after a bit I just stopped bothering. And now, a few months later, my town is nearly flowerless since I wasn't playing and watering them. My great orchards of fruit trees live on, however. Those are what really matter. They bring in the money.

It seems that NOA is finally offering some more colors for the DS Lite in North America. According to N-Sider, the Onyx (black) and Coral Pink colors will be available on September 13. But I still haven't actually gotten to play a DS Lite for myself, which is sad, 'cause I really want to try one out even if I can't afford one right now. And now I want one of those black Lites even more. :animecry:

Well, this is interesting. Apparently Nintendo is overhauling the control scheme for the Wii version of Twilight Princess, and now you'll swing the remote to swing Link's sword rather than pushing the A button. First, I'm worried that swinging the controller that much will get old really fast. Miyamoto also thought it would get tiring after a while, according to interviews from E3, but now he's saying, "Upon actually playing it, it's more interesting this way." I guess I trust Miyamoto's decision, but I still have some lingering doubts. One thing that could make this really cool, though, is if they let you control which sword swing you do (vertical slash, horizontal slash, stab, etc) just by how you move the remote. I think that would make it a lot more fun, and probably also less prone to become old and simply tiring. Also, since this change frees up a button (which was previously being used to swing the sword), you can now use a secondary item with B. The example given was with the bow and arrows, and how Miyamoto thought using down on the control cross was too difficult. I think that's great, since using the B trigger will feel a lot better for aiming and shooting with the remote.

That's true; Metroid Prime: Hunters is the only game that I can recall off hand. But I don't really think that's a good reason in itself to do something. I care more about the actual quality of an animation than the viewing space. If they can make it look awesome on one screen I'd rather have that than have it only look okay on two screens. From what I've seen, the camera angles in battle look okay to me. While you're actually choosing actions the camera stays off to the side in the "classic" view. It's only when your party is actually attacking that the camera moves behind them. I do think I'd prefer that it remained off to the side, but it's not really annoying. Take a look at this video to see a couple battles. And it also shows that they are making some good use of the second screen.

The time you spend playing a lot of DS games mainly depends on how much time you want to spend playing them. I'm the same way with my games: I usually go crazy and spend hours playing whenever I get a new game. But they can still be enjoyed just as much while only playing a bit at a time. None of the games that I own or want to buy so far, except maybe FFIII, require a large time investment. But if you do spend a lot of time on them, they stay fun for a long while. Which I think is perfect for this sort of situation, since it leaves time for socializing or whatever else while still letting you have fun with your DS when you want. But I guess it depends on one's taste in games.
-
I guess I should rephrase that: There's not a whole lot they could do outside of gimicks. Stretching a spell/summon animation across two screens. . . . Sorry, but that just doesn't impress me. About the only thing that does is make it so the camera doesn't have to move as much. With good camera work things can look plenty good on a single screen, especially when you're getting a higher polygon count because of it.
-
For an RPG like this I don't really care if they make a whole lot of use of the two screens. I mean, there's really not a whole lot they could do. Putting a map or menu on one screen while the action is on the other seems like about it. I also mainly just care about being able to use the stylus to make menu selections, and probably only while out of battle. I still prefer the control cross and buttons for running around, and I probably will during fights as well. I'm so used to going through battle menus that way that it'll probably still be faster for me than using the stylus. It's just when there's a bunch of options to wade through, like on the party menu, that I like using the stylus.

Nintendo said the DS wasn't supposed to replace the GBA, but I dunno. I don't think they have any games in development for the GBA anymore, and it also wasn't shown at all during the last E3. So, you know, a rose by any other name. I'm still impressed with the graphics Square Enix is managing to squeeze out of the DS. From what I hear, there are times when one screen turns off so that both graphics processors can work together to output graphics on a single screen, such as during cutscenes. I usually don't care much about graphics, but I have to admit I'm really looking forward to seeing how far they can push the DS.

I gotta agree with Charles here. The DS has a lot of great games, and there's bound to be time to fill between classes and such. I know when I start college this Monday my DS is going with me. On M/W/F I'm going to have two one-hour breaks separating three classes. And sure, I could hang out and talk to people (there's usually someone I know out there). But for two hours, three days a week, every week? I have a feeling that I'm going to be very thankful for my DS during those breaks.
Having never played Crystal Chronicles on the Gamecube, I have to admit I'm very impressed with the graphics quality on something that is effectively only a small step up from the GBA.
:therock: The DS is a small step up from the N64, not the GBA. The GBA was a small step up from the SNES. Anyway. . . . Those side-by-side comparison shots are great. The attention to all the little details (well, what details there were on the Famicom) is great. I thought that rock in the background of the first two shots, for example, was really neat. It almost makes me want to plan the Famicom version first. FFIII may just manage to sneak ahead of the Wii on my "to buy" list. I've been saving my money, but this is tempting.

I've been taking Chloe and Eddie through Prophecies whenever I happen to get bored and feel like playing on them, so I'd be up for some questing and missions. Stuff that Chloe has left: Frost Gate, Gates of Kryta, The Villainy of Galrath, and everything past Ventari's Refuge. Stuff that Eddie has left: All the Ascalon and northern Shiverpeaks missions, all the Kryta missions except Sanctum Cay, Galrath, everything in the jungle, Thirsty River and Dragon's Lair, and everything in the southern Shiverpeaks and Ring of Fire. So, yeah, I ran Eddie down to Sanctum Cay, did that, and have been working on getting him ascended. The reason being, I'd really like to cap Gladiator's Defense, and that's only found in Dragon's Lair. Chloe has been going through fairly normally though.

This should be fun. . . . Kindergarten: This "school" thing was kind of fun at first, but it gets old fast. Why didn't I appreciate my previous freedom more? 1st Grade: I skipped 1st grade arithmetic and went straight into 2nd. Huh, I must be good at it or something. 2nd Grade: Hey, reading is pretty cool. More books plz. 3rd Grade: Cursive handwriting is the devil. You may be able to force the knowledge of how to write it into my sponge-like little brain, but I am never going to use it outside of this penmanship course. And no, you can't make me. 4th Grade: Fractions in equations suck. Hard. So very hard. 5th Grade: Poetry is not my thing, will never be my thing, and no matter how much you try, I am never going to like it. The sooner you realize this, the sooner both of us will be happy. 6th Grade: Wow, a history course that isn't all about memorizing fifty-million names and dates? I didn't think it was possible, but I actually enjoy the subject. 7th Grade: Whee, algebra is fun! Well, except for those bastard square roots. 8th Grade: Junior high sucks. Why didn't I appreciate my time in elementary school more? 9th Grade: Argh, school is actually getting hard. This sucks even more. For the love of God, why didn't I appreciate junior high more? 10th Grade: Real teachers ftw. Learning math at a community college is so much easier than trying to teach myself out of a homeschool book. 11th Grade: Writing papers is the bane of my school life. The only thing they seem to be good for is showing me how not to write real articles. Nothing I've learned about how to write papers, other than using basic grammar, has helped me with any other writing. 12th Grade: Only one more year! I can do this. One more year and then I'm fr--oh, ****! I have four years of college after this. . . . Or not. Sigh. And tomorrow I get to spend five hours doing orientation out at that same community college I've already been taking math classes at for three years. Fun.

Aaryanna reminds me of myself . . . minus the spammy beginnings here. ^_^; I suppose the most definite things I could point to would be that we both became moderators here while still fairly young (fourteen and thirteen) and we both have a major obsession which practically identifies us (Zelda and her dog). But besides that, more than a few of her posts have made me think, "Hey, that sounds like something I'd say." Our personalities seem fairly similar.

I think, were you to take all the currently active game threads and toss them together into their own forum, you'd find there really aren't that many. There's only so many types of games you can play on a forum, and I think most of the non-spammy ones in existence are already present on OB. So, besides the high possibility that such a forum would become a spam magnet, I don't think there are actually enough decent games for them to support their own forum. Oh, and I'd like to clarify something, regarding posts not counting towards your total: That doesn't really do anything. Post counts have already been removed from the postbit, so unless you actually view someone's full profile, you're not going to see them. They aren't a status symbol at all anymore, so there's really no reason for the staff to care whether or not the posts in a particular forum count or not. What we do care about is making sure those posts are of decent quality. Single word posts, for example, will never be allowed simply because someone makes one of those word-by-word story games and places it in a forum where posts don't count. It's still spam, whether or not it's adding to post counts, so it isn't allowed regardless. Making posts not count towards totals doesn't mean we'll ease up on the rules in that forum.
