Does Dragon Half count as a guilty pleasure? For me it's one of those, "so bad it's good," things. Everything in it is just so stupid and absurd that I find it hilarious. Especially how it seems to randomly change between normal, chibi, and super-deformed animation styles. I don't think I would've watched it a second time if I weren't already shameless. It's a too bad there's only two episodes. Maybe I should try to find the manga.

I'm a guy, but I happen to have long hair--and I love it! I grew it long somewhere around four or five years ago, and I can't imagine cutting it short now. It would be like cutting off a limb. :p My natural hair color is brown with blonde highlights. They make it all shiney, which I like. I'm perfectly happy with my hair color as it is and I doubt I'll ever dye it. And as I said, I have long hair which is nice and straight, and I wear it tied back into a ponytail. Nothing fancy, but I like it. And I pull it all back into the ponytail, so no bangs; I don't like it getting in my face, and it makes it simpler to trim. In short, my hair is awesome. When it comes to girls' hair, I'm not especially picky. I tend to prefer long hair (big surprise, huh?), though, in a reddish-brown color. I like straight hair, but curly can be cute with shorter hair. Incidentally, Japan_86's hair happens to suit my tastes pretty much perfectly. :animesmil

It's usually just understood that explaining the rules is an announcement of loss. After all, you have to think about the Game in order to explain it, thereby making you lose. So yes, I lost when I created the thread. And now I lose again! But I don't mind. This thread has been worth it. :bdance:
I had a very good example falling out of a treasure chest the other day:
Aegis Armor: 16 (requires 9 tactics) Blood Magic +1 (Chance: 20%)
Teehee, it was a fun one to have, though. :3 The shield would've been quite good (+1/20%) for blood warriors... If they exist.
Neil might want that . . . if he used tactics. But yeah, +1 mods on shields are pretty useless unless they're for strength or tactics. I could see a tactics +1 20%, +30 HP shield selling for a lot. And yes, for a great majority of Factions, henchies will do better than people. Especially if you're playing a class well suited to using them, like a warrior, necro, or monk. It's unfortunate, but a lot of people in GW can't seem to put together a decent build to save their life. I've been getting groups for most missions lately, though. After herding the henchies around on my monk, having to heal and call targets at the same time while getting the Canthan Grandmaster Cartographer and Adept Skill Hunter titles, I got really tired of it. Now I just want to play my role without having to direct the entire battle at the same time.

Welcome to the most awesome game thread on the boards. The Game is simple to play, so I'll get right into what few rules there are: 1. Knowledge of the Game is all you need in order to play. 2. You lose if you think about the Game. 3. When you lose the Game you must announce it. That's it! Oh, and by the way, you just lost. See, the great thing about this game is that, unlike other games on OB here that tend to foster short, spammy posts, this one encourages you not to post. Because, if you view this thread and post, you lose. And you don't want to lose, now do you?

For the most part, the color of an item's text tells you whether or not it can be worth anything, but not necessarily that it is or isn't worth anything. White, blue, and purple items usually aren't worth much, if anything, and are best sold to the merchant or kept for personal use, though there are some exceptions. Gold items are the rarest and can be worth the most, but there's also a lot of crappy golds out there that aren't worth anything. The things that really determine a gold item's value are its skin, its inherent mods, abd its requirement. That is, what it looks like, what bonuses it has that are unchangeable, such as damage mods on weapons and skill recharge bonuses on caster equipment, and how many attribute levels it takes to use it. This thread on the GW Guru forums is a decent guide to what skins and stats make an item valuable. Green items are unique in that each green item will always be the same as another of the same type, and they always have max stats. So, that Urgoz's Longbow I sold is exactly the same as any other Urgoz's Longbow in the game. This sets them apart in their own market and makes them easier to price. However, it also makes them more common and less likely to be worth large amounts of money. There are two threads on the GW Guru forums that keep track of average prices for Tyrian and Canthan green items, which are good places to look when you find a green. They'll give you a price range for a green item, and that will help you determine how much you'll be able to sell it for. For example, Urgoz's Longbow is listed at 150k-190k and I sold mine for 180k. The thread gave me the range that the bows were generally trading in, so then I ventured into Kaineng Center d1 (one of the biggest trading districts in the game) and watched the trade chat for a bit. Looking at the number of people wanting to buy and sell it, and what prices they were asking, I decided that I should be able to get 180k without too much trouble. So then I started advertising it for sale at that price; the next day, after a couple hours of trade spamming, I had sold my bow and was 180k richer. Which reminds me, there is another way to get rich in GW, and that's through trading (buying low, selling high). It requires you to start out with a decent pool of money, though, since you have to be able to buy things first in order to sell them at a profit. It also takes quite a bit of time to find good deals and then to find people willing to pay for the item at a price above what you paid.

I had a great time during the Elite Weekend event (no thanks to all the crappy PUGs that were in Urgoz and the Deep). A guildmate and I joined some other people she knew for a barrage/pet run through Urgoz's Warren and we ended up rocking the whole way through. I was lucky and got one of the three green bows that dropped when we killed Urgoz: It's currently one of the most expensive green items in the game, and I sold it for 100k plus 10 ectoplasm (about 180k altogether). Then I used 49k of that to buy and add mods to this sweet composite bow that I'm now using: I figured Fina deserved a treat after such a great Urgoz run. ^_^ Anyway, there's not really any trick to getting rich or anything. There's only about two ways to do it: Get lucky and find some great drops like the one above and sell them, or farm a lot. If you've got a monk or a warrior there's a lot of areas you can solo farm fairly easily to make money, but it's pretty tedious. Like Boo mentioned, though, you can also get a fair bit of money just by doing all the quests in Factions (many pay out gold rewards) so long as you're careful and save your money for the things you want the most.

It was fun to play ACWW again and catch some more fish and stuff. But it also made me kind of sad that all my flower beds that I'd planted around town died. But I guess five months without being watered will do that. . . . Oh well, all my fruit trees are still there, so my cash flow is intact. I kind of like the look of my town with weeds growing all over between the trees, though. Makes it look more foresty, heh.

You gave me a run for my money when I wasn't using mini-turbos or snaking. We'll see if you can stand up to my true Mario Kart skillz. And I should be able to make it, so you can count me in. I'll get on AIM and start a chat for all the trash talking, too. :p

Wow, sounds like you girls have it all planned out. . . . I'd ask for a call before you show up at my doorstep, but then I guess it wouldn't be stalking. >_>;
Ironically when I was still working as a truck driver, since I went back and forth between Washington and California a lot. I went by Des?s place at least twice a month. (well pretty close as I don?t remember how far it is from Highway five. Remember for a truck driver anything under two hundred miles is close.) Just think of all the chances I missed! ^_~
That is pretty close. It's only about a twenty minute drive from where I live to get onto Interstate 5.

I'm assuming you're using a wireless router to connect at home, then? If so, have you tried the stuff listed on this page? I had trouble connecting at first as well, but changing the transmission rate setting on our router fixed the problem.

To get a friend code, go to your town gate and talk to Copper. You should be able to ask about friend codes and he'll give you one. I haven't played ACWW in quite a while, actually. It was fun, but it didn't hold me for as long as the original. . . . My village must be completely overrun by weeds by now, heh. But I guess if you're going to be on wifi, I'll have an excuse to pick it up again.

I'm not sure if that will help or not. I suppose it would depend on what exactly was downloaded, and whether it kept the downloaded bits when it closed. I'd imagine it would keep them, but whether or not it's putting it into use until you finish and get 100% is also another matter. So, uh, short answer: I have no idea. :animeswea

At least it tells us he knows how to use the Edit button instead of double posting. :p At any rate, I think everything worth saying has been said, and the thread is just getting off-topic now. So. . . . Thread Closed

Hmm, maybe they were actually banned altogether for a little while. That was four years ago, and my memory of v4/v5 is a bit fuzzy. . . . But still, that was only done to stop the flood of them that was pouring into the forums at the time. Later, when the craze had died down, we allowed them again so long as they kept up with the quality standards, which had steadily risen since the threads were banned. After that, right up to the present, favorite threads haven't been a problem. Getting back to the topic at hand, game threads haven't gotten anywhere close to the level favorite threads were at back in 2002. Some of them are spammy and get closed, but they're still very much in the minority of the total number of threads being posted. Favorite threads, on the other hand, had taken over 1/4 to 1/2 of the first page of some forums before they were banned. (The Final Fantasy forum was a hideous sight to see at that time.) So I really don't think there's enough justification to ban them entirely.
-
Er, no, they weren't. Favorite threads were discouraged for a while, after a huge rash of them popped up a long time ago, but they've never been banned completely. As long as the original post and the subsequent replies are of decent quality they stay open.
-
Now Desbreko, my point about the game threads was not really that the game threads immediately break the rules. I was trying to say that they beg for low quality repliers. And a whole lot of the replies are easy anyway and not a challenge at all, but seem to be just posted 'just to post in the thread'.
I don't think that's really the case, though. It's just as easy to write a short, sloppy post in nearly any thread out there as it is to write one in a game thread. They may attract a lot of new members whose post quality may not be up to par, since they provide the entertainment many members are looking for in a message board--why visit if you don't enjoy it, after all--but that's no reason to disallow them entirely. You could use the same reasoning to ban favorite threads or even RPGs. Game threads do get closed down if they get too spammy, though, just like other threads. It's not like we make a special exception for them or anything.

Hello, and welcome to OtakuBoards. This is a message board, so most of what goes on here is simply people discussing various topics of conversation. As you can see on the home page, there are forums for anime, video games, music, etc. Anything not covered by one of the other forums can also be discussed in the Otaku Lounge. There are also the RPGs that you mentioned, which take place in the Adventure Square forum. For more information on them, you should check out the Adventure Square Basics sticky thread.
Now, let's get this clear. I am not talking about 3 years ago or whatever unreasonable number there was being talked about in The Complaint. As I said, I am not sure when it was that the quality was being improved drastically, so don't come throwing threads about 'favourite socks' or anything at me. I'm just saying that I believe, once people were pointed at to improve their quality, which I don't remember to have seen a lot lately, while it certainly is[/i'] necessary. It's a lot of only 'pointing back to stickies' lately, which some members will very likely just take a glance at, at most.
The push for quality has been happening for as long as I can remember, and is still happening today. I think the last big push happened with the launch of v7, but we always encourage members to post the best they can. At the least, I don't think we've eased up since then. Also, an important thing to remember is that you're only getting half the story when you see in-thread warnings. Yes, we do a lot of pointing to the rules and the various stickies, but there's also discussion happening in the staff forum, warnings being sent via PM, and bans being carried out which you aren't seeing. So we do follow up on those in-thread warnings if someone doesn't heed the rules/stickies. Anyway (:p), I've always been of the opinion that fun, entertainment-oriented threads (as opposed to discussion-oriented threads) are a great thing to have around. Obviously a majority of the threads out there are going to be discussion based, so the game threads are a nice change of pace. So as long as they don't actually violate any rules, I don't have any problem with them.

I suppose I'm going to miss seeing photos of all the extravagant booths, like the forest Nintendo constructed for Zelda: Twilight Princess last year. (That koi pond was awesome.) But as long as we still get news about the latest games and whatnot, I'll be happy. And I doubt that will change, since getting information out to people in the industry--which is then also passed on to us--is the whole point of the show. On the other hand, I guess this eliminates my chances of weaseling into the show.
-
I dunno, I don't really see this doing much. I'm not sure how often the thread directories in the Anime Lounge and Manga Workshop are updated, but for Play It I update the directory as soon as I see a new game/series/system thread and confirm that there isn't duplicate. So people can already use the directory to see whether they can create a thread or if they should post in the one already there. As for people posting in duplicate threads, that's not really a problem; the duplicates can be merged with the original easily enough if the conversation is worthwhile. The issue is with duplicate threads being created in the first place. Once one has been created, it's the same amount of work to merge or close it no matter how many replies the thread has.
