1. I think having a cel shaded Link in SSBB like there's Link and Young Link in SSBB now would be awesome. Items like the Grappling Hook would be great fun (grab, swing, and throw kind of like Mario's backwards throw?), and there's also lots of other ways (Hurricane Spin anyone?) that they could differentiate him from the Twilight Princess style Link. Two Links is enough, though, so I think if a cel shaded style one was added that it should replace Young Link. No big loss, I'd say, considering YL loses three big assets (power, range, and the ground spin attack as a KO move) in exchange for only a slightly increase in speed and boomerang control. I've played a lot on both and Young Link definitely gets the short end of the stick in that deal. One idea I've heard for reducing the annoyance of having clones while still keeping them around, though, is to have them combined in the same character as the original. So, like changing costume color in SSBM, you'd just switch from the TP style to the cel shaded style Link after selecting Link. The question of whether or not you'd have to unlock the clones separately from the originals would still be up in the air, but either way, I think it's a pretty good idea and wouldn't mind seeing it used in SSBB.
 2. If you go into Advent Children expecting another FFVII-proportion storyline, of course you're going to be disappointed. FFVII was a 70 hour game, whereas AC is only an hour and forty minute movie. And an action movie no less. AC is all about showing Cloud kicking *** and taking names; it seems like the story is there mainly just to give him reason to do so. Truth be told, that's not really what I expected either, but I don't think it's necessarily a flaw in the movie. Once I realized that, hey, it's not supposed to be FFVII-2, I enjoyed AC a lot for what it is. As a fast paced action movie tied into the overall FFVII storyline, I thought it turned out pretty good.
 3. Personally, I like the idea of the "clones," if not all of the actual characters themselves. I love both the Marth/Roy and Falcon/Ganondorf pairs, and it's fun to be able to have another character with a similar move set but weighted differently in terms of power/speed and whatnot. It adds more depth to the game, just in a different way than having more unique characters. Of course, I defintely want to see more completely original characters, but I wouldn't mind seeing more clones at the same time. I mean, you've got a total of 25 characters in SSBM and 6 are clones. That's only a little over a fifth of your total selection, and 19 characters is already on par with most fighting games out there. So I wouldn't be at all unhappy if they kept that ratio for SSBB.
 4.
I love battlefield... :([/font']
So do I. But when we have not only Battlefield, but also Yoshi's Story, Fountain of Dreams, and the classic SSB Green Greens, you have to ask yourself: Why? All three of those other stages only have slight changes that separate them from the plain Battlefield level. Why couldn't they have given us a great classic stage like Saffron City instead of the cookie cutter Green Greens? Battlefield is great, but not great enough to warrent having four copies of it. I hope they've learned that from SSBM.
 5.
Thats not exactly what I'm saying. I'm saying it in a MUCH nicer way for everyone else. Saying it like that is just plain rude. But the basic meaning of what I'm saying, you are very correct. You might think the meaning of what I'm saying it rude, but really. Think on this for alittle while, use some commen sence. I would much rather people do it. I'll stop rambling on about this since I know everybody is like, "Its Hanabishi, he doesn't know. I would much rather watch it on youtube". But you know what? I know it won't change it. And if you are going to watch it, you probably already have. I am just saying, I want to get it fair.
Maybe not now, but in the post I deleted you were. I recall the phrase, "you suck," coming up in it a number of times, usually preceeded by, "If you can't..." Which is why I deleted it. It seemed pretty rude to me, and walking the line on flaming. I understand your views on the subject, since I hold similar thoughts. I also prefer to work for things myself in video games, rather than running to a walkthrough for help or whatever. But I don't rant at people who do and tell them they suck, either wrapped up in pretty semantics or not. I think that sort of thing is inappropriate and doesn't hold any value here, but that's exactly what you were doing in that last post. Speaking to everyone here, if you want to work for the ending yourself, that's great and you're free to voice that opinion. But that doesn't give you the right to put down others who watch it online. I want that to be clear, because it and other thinly veiled insults like it aren't tolerated. If anyone has any farther questions or concerns, you can PM me. This thread, however, should be getting back onto the subject of Kingdom Hearts 2 now.
 6.
How do you sneak up on somebody if they can see the same screen you're viewing? I'm reminded of when I played Reptile from Mortal Kombat.
You use the cardboard box. They'll never seen it coming. :p I kind of imagine Snake will play something like a cross between Sheik and Ganondorf, with a few projectiles thrown in for good measure. Snake doesn't strike me as being one of the slow characters, yet at the same time he often finishes people off in one go, so he also comes across as being powerful. But having both would be overpowered, so I think he'll end up being somewhere in the middle; maybe similar to how Samus plays. If that's the case, I'll be happy. I've always liked the somewhat balanced characters such as Link, Samus, Mario, Marth, and Roy. Hyper-fast movement with tons of weak hits strung together isn't my thing, but neither is being too slow to combo much at all. I like to beat people across the platform while putting them through my combos. Speaking of which, I really hope they return Pikachu to his former glory. He just needs his moveset from the original SSB (none of these stupid multi-hit moves like his backwards air kick and down+A in SSBM) and I'll be ready to rock on him again. In SSB, he was similar to what Marth is in SSBM; he was balanced between speed and power, though weighted more towards speed, and with good comboing abilities. In SSBM they made him slightly faster but then took away most of his hard-hitting moves and made him easier to KO, which isn't even close to a fair trade. Stages I also hope to see returning: Saffron City from SSB, Hyrule Castle from SSB, Onett from SSBM, and Temple from SSBM. Those four are my favorites out of the past two games' levels. . . . And they better not give us another stupid Battlefield clone as a classic stage, like they did with the classic Kirby level in SSBM.
 7.
My post was deleted, but thanks for your thoughts. Every time I post here my post is deleted... I feel offended >>
Now you know how other people feel when you tell them they suck and don't deserve to see the secret ending unless they've unlocked it themselves.
 8. Eight seconds. . . . Wow, that's going to be nasty. I wonder if they're going to increase the recharge along with the duration, or maybe the energy cost. Otherwise that's entirely too spammable, considering it's basically on par with Backfire only it's for shutting people down instead of outright killing them. At the very least I hope most of the duration break points are at levels 12+ so you have to pump fast casting way higher than you normally would. Oh, and I finally got 15k Kurzick armor for Chloe, my assassin. Check it out: I dyed it Blue+Green+Green+Black, which I think looks great; it's a nice dark green. I ended up sticking with the normal Shing Jea mask, though, since the 15k Kurzick version sticks out of her hair on the sides. It also just looks kind of stupid with a little slot that exposes the nose.
 9. Assassin's Promise is good if you're using many spells--especially if you're using them in your attack chain--since Moebius Strike only recharges attack skills. I imagine's it's also better for PvP, since it can be tricky to catch a target with Moebius while they're below 50% health if there's a monk around, whereas Promise can be slipped in at any time without disrupting your chain. I think Moebius would come out on top for taking down the tougher PvE targets, though. With Moebius you only have to get them below 50% health with your chain and then you can repeat it to finish them off, but with Promise, you have to be able to kill them all in one go. Otherwise you're stuck with little energy left and your skills are still recharging. A great example of that would be when I fought Kuunavang. (A big dragon boss--the same one you get a mini-pet of with the CE.) Getting her down to below 50% health was kind of hard, but as soon as that happened, the fight was as good as over. I cycled through my attack chain three times in maybe ten seconds and she was defeated. Other than needing meatshields to take damage for me, I could've taken her out by myself after that. Death Blossom is pretty cool for PvE, and I've taken to using it over Twisting Fangs. At first it was just because the damage from the deep wound from Fangs was hard to judge, so I would accidentally kill things before I could tag them with Moebius Strike. But I'm also really liking the AoE damage now. At 16 dagger master it's doing +42 damage, so with it being a dual attack, that's +84 damage to my target as well as 84 damage to all baddies adjacent to the target. Which is especially nice when taking out those stupid Afflicted Ritualists, since they tend to sit next to their spirits. Tips for beating Nahpui Quarter:

The mission tips say to take out the monk boss (the kirin) last to make it easier, but they lie. The monk boss is a smiting monk and does not heal other baddies at all so far as I can tell. Mainly it just spams Signet of Judgement, which isn't very dangerous.
The dragon boss--an air elementalist--is by far the most dangerous celestial in the mission. If you want to take it out last you have to go out of your way, but it will make the mission easier.
The turtle uses Life Siphon and Grenth's Balance, which makes the little clones somewhat hard to kill, so always take them out last in a group of baddies. They take the longest to kill, and if you're not doing damage to them, they can't spike you with Grenth's.
The phoenix boss is a complete pushover and definitely the easiest of the four. I'd recommend killing it first, as the little clones mainly just spread a bit of degen around.
If you're using henchies, always pull once you've beaten two of the bosses. The little celestials usually pull separately from the tengu things, so whip out your longbow and draw them away.

 10. I wouldn't mind a separate chat room set up for OB members (which has been suggested before, take a look at the thread Stuart linked to), but setting up an actual forum on the board here is out of the question. Not only would that defeat the purpose of a chat facility, since the forums aren't in real time, but it would also pretty much be the same thing as the much suggested spam forum. In other words, it would be filled with tons of short little posts that don't line up with the site rules, which won't be happening. So, separate chat = good. Forum chat = bad. And in the mean time, before we get a separate chat room set up (who knows when that could be, if at all), AIM is free to download and easy to use.
 11. I was also thinking a poll thread would be handy, except that people would be voting on multiple titles. So either there'd have to be a separate poll, and thus a separate thread for each title, or it would have to be the kind of poll in which people can vote for multiple options. In the first case, that would clutter up the Event forum really fast, and in the second case, what would stop people from voting for multiple people for the same title? I or Dagger could check who voted for what through the admin control panel, but then, checking through all that would probably be just as much of a pain as counting posted votes. (Only we wouldn't be about to foist it off onto Shy. :p) Or I suppose we could just not care about it in the first place, but I don't like that idea. Another reason it might be better to go with posted votes is that it takes more thought than simply clicking through a poll. People would actually have to write out who they're voting for, so hopefully if they care to take the time to do that, then they've actually put some thought into why they're voting for who they are. The theory being that the harder it is to vote, the less random/thoughtless votes will sway the outcome.
So the only question is, when does it start?
Whenever Shy decides how exactly he wants to do this. And then, if that way involves the rest of the staff, as it most likely will, whenever we have time. Which could be a while.
 12. Heh, that's pretty awesome. The resemblance is crazy. Though I wonder if that also goes for the nipple? . . . I guess I should get a shot of my new warrior (Edward Montblanc has returned!) up here. He's just in the standard canthan style armor, though, so no nipple this time around. And he's using hammers this time, which have been fun so far. After playing a ranger and using a composite/longbow a lot, I've kind of gotten used to a slower attack speed, and there's just something satisfying about beating things down with a huge hammer. Probably not a lot of people would think of a hammer warrior as a tank, considering you've got no shield, but through the magic of, well, earth magic, I've been making it work. With Armor of Earth and "Watch Yourself!" I've been doing pretty good at soaking up damage while at the same time putting the beat down with knockdowns and Aftershock. It's a fun combo, though if the going gets tough and I need to seriously tank, I'll probably be playing around with sword builds as well. Oh, and if anyone is still on Shing Jea Island and wants some help, Eddie and Smurf's ritualist both just got to the Zen Daijun mission earlier today. I'm avoiding the quest Captured Son for now, since I'm trying to get the Survivor title on Eddie (which requires you get to level 20 with zero deaths), but I can help out with everything else on the island. Just give me a holler if you see me in game.
 13.
Off-Topic: Wow! Dagger in the Play It! section! Take pictures!!! :animestun [/FONT']
How come I never get that when I make a post in Anime Lounge? :animecry:
 14.
Retri: Honestly, that sounds like it would be a huge hassle to keep track of, since the awards would all end up being staggered. Not to mention the fact that forum activity levels are far from static.
I'd also have to agree that trying to have different numbers of people and varying frequencies for the awards being handed out would only make the whole thing more complicated. It's two more things to keep track of for a pretty small change.
But I must say that most members stand no chance at winning these, because here are the scenarios- a) Members vote/are appointed to pick members for the award. They either pic friends, people they know, someone they share an opinion with, etc. Most people would not give an award to someone they debated against in a thread, anything done this way will be extremely biased.
If you were to have a completely open vote, like the old Otaku Awards, sure. That sort of thing turns into a popularity contest in no time flat. But, in my proposal, members would only be able to pick between two or three nominees to vote for. I think that would cut down on a vast amount of blind votes for friends. It also wouldn't be overly difficult to make them give short reasons for their votes, like in the Nifty Fifty, to discourage people just going down the list of nominees and voting arbitrarily. And if you look back at the Nominations thread, at the people who actually posted in there, you'll see a lot of members who I think are at least above average when it comes to voting fairly.
At any rate, I do believe that OtakuBoards already has an award given to its members and any other outstanding thread, person, etc. called the Nifty Fifty, no?[/color']
Yeah, but you don't get a title for winning a spot in the Nifty Fifty. And because the Nifty Fifty can be comprised of anything and everything on OB, not just members, it would be difficult to award specific titles for winning. Which, I think, is why this suggestion exists in the first place; people want special titles, but there's currently nothing set up to award them.
What if you formed a specific council to shell out the titles each 3 months? Just find like 5 members/mods who have the spare time to handle something like this, and let them do the honors. Then, they could give the results to a mod (or if theres a mod in the group, he would use the results and that mod could simple apply the titles to the winners. You could call the group "The Coalition of the Willing" XD
The problem with involving members in that sort of way is that the people we'd want to select for the council would probably also be some of the most deserving people for the titles. But if they're on the council they wouldn't be able to give awards to themselves. So doing that is kind of counter-productive.
 15. Vizunah Square is quite the pain to do with all henchies. Just the sheer number of explosions going off from the afflicted dying can take them down. Something that will help more than probably anything else, though, is if you can get a minion master necro--heck, even two, there's so many corpses--in your group. A pack of ten or twenty bone fiends will both cause a lot of damage as well as take a lot of damage in your place. Oh, and to get the henchies to focus their attacks, you can call targets (Ctrl+Space to call and attack or Ctrl+Shift+Space to just call) and then they'll focus on whatever you call. It can take a bit to get used to calling targets even though there's no other humans in the party, but it helps a lot. Tips for fighting the afflicted in Vizunah Square:

Take out ritualists first, because they can resurrect with Flesh of My Flesh. Despite what you might think, the monks aren't actually much of a bother compared to the rits and elementalists.
The eles use Mind Burn and Lightning Orb for some nasty spike damage, as well as Lava Arrows for AoE, so kill them after the rits. Next take down the monks, then the assassins, then warriors, then rangers, then mesmers.
Bring the earth henchie and he'll use Ward Against Melee, which will really cut down on the amount of damage you'll take from the wars and assassins, making them not as much of a threat.
The more powerful an afflicted is, the more damage its explosion will cause, so if you're playing a melee class--especially an assassin--back off before killing an afflicted boss and let the ranged classes finish it off.
Don't stray too far from Togo and Mhenlo during battle. Henchie monks can only heal if they're in range and they will follow you out of range if you go too far.

 16. I mainly remember winning the Zelda forum awards by complete landslides. But, you know, that was completely deserved despite me being the forum moderator. :toothy: Really, though, I do remember the old Otaku Awards. Which is why I suggested the staff--and I meant the whole staff, the category mods would just be the ones to organize the final lists--select nominees to temper the crazy-go-nuts voting that went on. Basically, I was trying to find a balance between making sure titles go to those who deserve them and letting members participate in the event. The forum is called Community Events, but an event handled completely by the staff with no involvement from members wouldn't have much to do with the "community" part.
 17. Jade Brotherhood are one of the most dangerous things I've encountered in Factions while playing with henchies. And there's a very simple reason for that: Henchies get owned by AoE damage, and Jades do lots of AoE. The healer henchies just can't keep up, but if you're even half way decent as a monk, you can keep them alive fine. Trying to use henchies against them on my assassin was hell, but when I brought my monk over from Tyria, I breezed right through them. There are a couple tips I can offer, though, for making them easier. First, you always want to take the mages out first. They use Dragon Stomp and Double Dragon, which can decimate your henchies in no time at all if left unchecked. Next you should kill the ritualists, as they can do pretty nasty damage as well as heal a bit. Once you've killed them off, you can take your pick between the mesmers and knights, depending on which happen to be causing the most damage. I usually go for the mesmers first because they're easy to take down, but three knights all focusing their attacks is a force to be reckoned with. As for mini-pets, they're an item that you keep in your inventory, and I think you can set whether or not they'll follow you while you're outside town. I know you can only have one following you at a time.
 18. I guess that's true; it also seems a bit off to have members voting on their own awards. Maybe I'm putting too much faith in the general member base to look at things fairly and not just vote for their friends. :p Though I doubt we'd have any trouble getting enough people to vote. Just look at the Nifty Fifty and the Otaku Awards before that. Both of those events have been really popular every time they've been held, and there've been plenty of votes.
 19.
I do like the idea, I just feel that it's not something we can really devote our time to at this stage. I'm more interested in repairing some of the fundamentals of the site to make it easier and more enjoyable, before we start going after other things.
Yes, this would of course have to take its place in the priority list. I wouldn't expect it to happen soon, since there are other site issues to tackle first. But, assuming it becomes feasible in the future, I think it would make for a good event. And if tri-monthly is still too much work too often, it could even be scaled back to semi-annually or annually.
I don't like the idea of members voting in the selection of these members. I think that if the staff were to get together and decide, anyone could get it whereas if we were to have votes, only older, more popular members would recieve the award, regardless of merit. Sure, 'apppointing' these members a title wouldn't be democratic, but they'd be most deserving, I think.
That's why the moderators would be the ones choosing the nominees. They would pick out only the people who are deserving of the title and then members would only be able to vote for those few nominees. If an older and well-known member is among those nominees, I don't see why they shouldn't be recognized for their long-standing contributions. And, as I said, people wouldn't be able to win the same title twice in a row--or maybe never again at all, depending on how the rules were to work out. I guess what I don't like about moderators directly choosing the title recipients is that it seems too one-sided. These would be special titles specifically for regular members and regular members only, so I think they should be involved in the process. Otherwise it would almost be like saying, "You're a great member, but we don't need/want you as part of the staff, so have this instead." And that just doesn't sit well with me.
I quite like the idea of regular members voting. Prehaps the mods who nominated the finalists could post their opinion on why their choice deserves the title, thus giving people who might not know certain members well enough to judge some input on which to work on. I remember we used to have a couple of special titles for winning events before custom titles came into use e.g Otaku Idol
That's a good idea. It would require more time than just posting up the list of nominees, though, so we'd have to see just how much we'd be able to fit in. And due to the opinions needing to be from the moderators who are familiar with their sections, it would be another thing for the category moderators to sort out. And this would actually be very similar to the old Otaku Awards events. With those, we had awards for members who were especially good and active in each forum. In this case we'd just be cutting out the misc. awards while adding a tangible reward--a special title--for winning. Heck, I think it would even be pretty appropriate to re-use the name Otaku Awards for it.
In that case, why not pick someone to be in control of the event? Then the mods could go on with their important business, and let that guy handle it.
There's one problem with having a single person choosing all the nominees: That single person needs to be familiar with every forum on the site. That's a lot to keep track of, and I don't think it would really work out too well. Which is the reason why I proposed that the category moderators be the ones to submit the final list of nominees for their sections. They, along with the regular moderators, are watching over their forums all the time anyway and will know who the high quality members are. So they would be the most informed and best suited to picking the nominees.
 20. Hmm, I guess I missed that. (I skim when I'm short on time. >_>;) From the bit of info I'd found on the day of the E3 press conferences, the difference in hard drive capacity was the only thing I'd heard about. It did seem a bit odd that only a 40 GB difference would cost $100 extra. . . . I guess they really are screwing people who get the $500 version then. Make that a 3/4 cut in the price before I consider buying one.
 21. I like the idea of a trimonthly title awards event. Once every two months is still a bit often, I think, if we were to have a title for every forum. That's eleven titles at the most and nine at the least, depending on if we had one for Suggestions & Feedback and Arena Underground, to sort out winners for. Sometimes there'd be one or two people obviously deserving of it, sure, but I don't think it would be that cut and dried most of the time. And when it isn't that'll be a fair bit of work. Also, I'd like regular members to be involved somehow. Maybe it's just me, but I don't really like the idea of the moderators handing down titles without any input from the rest of the member base. . . . This is just a rough idea banged together in a few minutes, but I think it could work out: Every three months, the staff from each section of the boards (Tokyo 3, Hardwired, etc.) would get together and decide on nominees for the titles corresponding to their forums. The category moderator of each section would be responsible for gathering the opinions of the moderators of each forum in the section and sending the final list of nominees to Shy. Shy would then post the list of nominees in a thread in the Community Events forum, and members would post their votes for each title. Staff obviously wouldn't be able to be nominated or vote, nominees wouldn't be able to vote for themselves, and members wouldn't be able to win the same title twice in a row. After a certain length of time the thread would be closed, the votes tallied, and the titles awarded. Thoughts? I figure there would be a running discussion thread in the staff forum to point out cool things members have posted (sort of the opposite of the infamous "Deal With This Member" Thread), to help with the nomination process. And with the event only being once every three months I wouldn't think it would be too much of an extra workload on the staff. And as for keeping track of past titles, it's easy enough to add another field to the profile pages. Just like the Previous Username one, we could make it uneditable by members, so only staff could add in the appropriate title when they go to change the current one. So that's no problem.
 22. As I understand it, the only difference between the $500 version and the $600 version is the size of the hard drive. The first will have a 20 GB drive and the second will have a 60 GB drive. So that extra $100 is just getting you 40 GB more storage space. Either way, though, I can tell you right now that I won't be getting a PS3 for a long, long time. Even for the $500 version, they'd have to cut the price by 2/3 before I'd consider buying one--since I'm already going to have a Wii and games to buy for that. And even if I weren't looking to get a Wii first, I just wouldn't be able to afford $500 or $600 for a console.
 23. I'm sure everyone who kept up with the news from E3 already knows about SSBB, but I still just had to make a thread for the game. Short of Twilight Princess, it has me more excited than any other game I saw displayed. First, a link to the official site: Smash Bros. Dojo. It's being run by Masahiro Sakurai himself, the director of the Super Smash Bros. series. On the site is the trailer shown at E3, screen shots, and an mp3 download of the game's main theme. As well, there's a tantalizing Characters image, tucked in between the Movie and Music links, which is currently grayed out and inactive. So go watch the trailer if you haven't already. It rocks. So hard. Also, Nintendo.com has posted a transcript of the Q&A session held by Miyamoto and Sakurai. There's lots of tasty info to be gotten out of that as well, including this bit which was of particular interest to me:
How will Super Smash Bros. for Wii take advantage of the controller? Mr. Sakurai: We've actually been working with some different ideas, and we've found that trying to implement too much of the motion sensor could actually get in the way of the game. We're looking at trying to keep the controls simple, as they have been in past games. Of course, you all know that the Wii hardware has ports for the GameCube controller as well. So, I'll just say now that you may not want to throw away your GameCube controllers just yet! Mr. Miyamoto and Nintendo have encouraged developers to really take advantage of the Wii Controller and find innovative ways to implement it into their games. So in that sense, I'm going in a different direction, and trying to offer something that has more of the standard control features that all of you have come to expect.
While the Wii style control in Zelda: Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption looks great, I'm actually happy to hear that SSBB will stick to a more standard control scheme. I could probably come up with a decent control scheme using the remote and nunchuk attachment, but I really doubt it would ever get to be as intuitive as SSBM is for me now. So I certainly will be keeping my GCN controllers around after I get a Wii. Oh yes, and another tidbit from Smash Bros. Dojo: SSBB's music will all be fully orchestrated. Already with SSB and SSBM, I've spent countless hours listening to the classic Nintendo remixes, as well as the Smashing Live! SSBM orchestral tracks. And now we're getting the awesome quality of the Smashing Live! concert right in the game itself. Sound Test, here I come.
 24. Yeah, everyone who has the collector's edition gets a mini Kuunavang. (Isn't she just the cutest? . . . I meant the dragon, I swear. ;)) It isn't available as one of the standard birthday present ones, so it's unique to the collector's edition. Which also means that you'll still get one of the others when a character turns one year old.
 25. If they do that with the Wii controller, I doubt they'd be any better at rotating the control stick on a GCN pad. I've read impressions, and while it sounded like it might take a bit to get the motion down, it also sounded easy to do once you know just what motion you're supposed to make. Myself, I've always been good at the rotating for the spin attack anyway, so having something even simpler will be icing on the cake. I can't wait to start owning baddies in Twilight Princess. ^_^
