The main reason I don't is that you've got very little in-game evidence to back the theory up. If I recall correctly, you've got 1) map layout inconsistancies, 2) individual room layout inconsistancies, 3) Samus' memories at the beginning of Super Metroid not matching up, and 4) inconsistancies with Metroid Prime's references. The first two of those I chalk up to the fact that gameplay will [i]always[/i] trump storyline in action/adventure games like Metroid. They changed the maps and rooms to fit their design ideas for making the game fun, and I seriously doubt anyone on the design staff would care about such small inconsistancies. I see this as the same sort of argument as The Legend of Zelda and Zelda: A Link to the Past being set in alternate universes just because the maps don't match up. There's just no way I would even consider something like that, because I know that level designers aren't going to scrap their maps because of some small things that might affect the storyline. As much as I wish it weren't so, the designers will never care about their action/adventure game storylines as much as we do; they care about making a game that's fun to play so that it will sell and be profitable. I gotta say, you really ripped those two sentences out of context. Just because they're different sentences does not mean they can refer to entirely different time periods. Being in the same paragraph, it [i]does[/i] imply that the foiling of Mother Brain was during Samus' first battle with the Metroids. Trying to completely separate those two sentences is just silly when you look at it grammatically. And finally, for the fourth point, I would again point to the Gameplay > Storyline idea. Metroid Prime makes references to Metroid, yes. But Zero Mission was not out at the time of Prime's release, so it would've been impossible to reference Zero Mission. So why didn't Zero Mission rigidly stick to the same storyline in order to preserve those references? Well, it's hard to add new content like the Space Pirate Mother Ship sequence in Zero Mission without changing the story. And since gameplay (new content) takes precedence over storyline (keeping the references accurate), I again see this negligible. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Now, with the in-game evidence out of the way, I wasn't too impressed with most of your other arguments. A lot of it seemed like playing on the semantics of PR hype, and taking things out of context in the same way as the Super Metroid monologue. But I see that as a moot point anyway. When I formulate theories about the Zelda timeline, I place this order of importance on my sources: In-game events > in-game text > instruction manual text > other sources souch as developer interviews and official websites. Now, if a theory doesn't rest on either either of the first two sources (in game events or text), I don't regard it as especially valid because it has a pretty weak foundation. As well, if a theory is well founded on one of the first two sources, a lower important source's contradicting information will not destroy the theory in anything but large amounts. Take, for example, Miyamoto's (I think it was his, either his or Aonuma's) claim that The Wind Waker is set 100 years after Ocarina of Time. In-game events and text clearly show this to be impossible, as it takes a lot longer than 100 years for a people's origins to completely dissolve into legend. That just doesn't happen, even if those origins involved a catastrophic flood. Therefore, there must be a longer period of time between OoT and TWW (which is a good thing, 'cause otherwise there wouldn't be room for Twilight Princess). So why do I disregard the word of the series' creator? Make no mistake, I have an immense amount of respect for Miyamoto and Aonuma both. But the thing is, the question comes down to what [i]is[/i], and what is [i]said[/i]. The game clearly shows the people of Hyrule in a state that wouldn't fit the passage of a mere 100 years. So the actual game shows that what [i]is[/i], is a passage of time greater than that, while Miyamoto only [i]said[/i] the passage was 100 years. All this, then, comes together as my reason for not bothering with your arguments regarding out-of-game evidence. I showed why I didn't think your in-game evidence had any weight, so thus, with your theory's foundation gone in my mind, I really have no reason to try and refute every other little point. Of course, this is my order of importance that I use when formulating theories. You may use a different one and put more weight on out-of-game things. . . . [color=#4B0082]I finally got my Fissure of Woe armor for Arik yesterday. No longer am I forced to be naked in order to get the energy boost of the Ascetic's set. When I used a purple dye on it at first, for example, it turned green. To get this shade of purple, I ended up using a yellow-green-green-silver combination. The silver, and I'm assuming black, are the only dyes that act normally. On the other hand, my scalp pattern only needed purple-silver to get it the same color.[/color]

(Not to mention a couple types of mines.) They just weren't very common, and you had to switch to them from your gun. Personally, I also can't see why Halo/Halo 2 get as much hype as they do. I got the chance to play Halo 2 at a LAN party a while ago, with three Xboxes networked together running it. Pretty much, it seemed like Perfect Dark with prettier graphics, slightly better control, and real people instead of eight bots. Oh yes, and don't forget the highly unbalanced vehicles. (What's that? You say you want to jump in a warthog and fight back? Sorry, you spawn out in the open where you're an easy target; good luck running 100 feet across an open field to get to one.) In the end, it bored me pretty quickly. Really though, until developers start letting you use a keyboard and mouse, or they come up with a good control scheme for the Revolution's controller, I just won't see console FPSs as anything but party game amusements. Dual analog control is okay, but compared to mouse-look, I find it to be complete crap. You can get used to it and do okay, sure -- or you can jump right into mouse-look style control and do just as good on your very first time. Oh, and one game that I still feel is overrated, though not nearly the most, is Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Before you flame me, I realize it's an awesome game and I know how much it did for 3D action games after it. But seriously, after you've played it once, know how to solve the puzzles, and have figured out the few simple patterns required to kill absolutely everything in the game, its fun factor takes a massive dive. I see people calling OoT the greatest game of all time, and I just have to shake my head when I consider that even Mario 64 has aged better.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]I think the only thing that's really taken me by surprise in anime, at least so far, has been the lack of closure in some series' endings. Especially with Ranma 1/2. . . . Though reading the manga cleared that one up. But there've been a few times where I've been sitting there during the last few episodes, expectantly waiting for such-and-such loose ends to be resolved -- and then the series ends. And I'm left going, "Wait...what? But...but..." That really puts a damper on my after-series musings.[/color]

But don't worry, we still love you. :p Personally, I just use AIM for all my chatting needs. Back a while, there used to be an AIM chat room going almost every night. And maybe there still are, and I'm just not being invited ([i][/i]:animecry:[i][/i]). . . . I always found those to be a lot of fun and a great way to get to know OB peoples better. Your contact list grows pretty fast when you're in a lot of chats like that, too.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]So I guess not many people know about the Underwater materia in FFVII, then? It removes the twenty minute timer from the Emerald WEAPON battle. Which, of course, lets you W-Summon/Mime Knights of the Round in order to chain cast it all to hell. Then it's just a matter of having a Final Attack/Phoenix or Final Attack/Revive combo so you can survive Aire-Tam Storm without having to equip less than nine materia. It took a while, what with all the KotR animations (I think I actually got up and made a sandwich or something at one point), but it made Emerald a complete pushover. Ruby WEAPON, now -- there's just no good way to fight Ruby. There's a few tricks, but for the most part, it's nearly invulnerable to anything you throw at it. Summons are the only thing that can really hurt it, and of course, it counters with Ultima if you use KotR. So no chain casting it like with Emerald. Combine that with the fact that you lose two of your party members towards the end of the fight (or sooner if you don't come into the fight with two of them dead) and you've got the only really hard boss in FFVII. I can't say I felt much accomplishment after beating Emerald, since I completely spanked it, but Ruby was still a blast. Coming down to having only Red XIII left, using the enemy skill Pandora's Box to do 500 damage in between healing (because Cloud was the one with the summons, of course). . . . That was an intense fight.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]Yet another thing to add to my "must buy" list for 2006. Feels like money's getting tight, and I haven't even spent much for the year so far. I'm looking forward to seeing if the dub can live up to the Japanese voices. Watching a fansub, the only voice that didn't immediately click with me was Cloud's (I imagined his to be a little gruffer I guess). All the others I thought were perfect. Prefering subtitles most of the time, however, I'm not familiar with any of the listed English voice actors. I guess it gets to be a surprise for me.[/color]

You've got categories (sub-categories aren't possible unless there's a hack for them), category order, and avatar order within the categories -- and that's it. I've already used those to alphabetize the categories and avatars within, which is kind of a pain in itself with the way the software works, but I can't really do anything else to farther organize them. More movie avatars to offset the large number of Matrix ones would be great, though. Stick 'em in the thread and they'll get added the next time I do an update.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]Yeah, I know, I've been meaning to make some more Chrono Trigger avatars to fill out that category. Those went up before the "six to start a new category" rule went into effect with the creation of the Avatar Submission Thread, so it kind of slipped past that, and I've never gotten around to making more. Though I'd like to note that my Schala avatar in there was quite popular for a time. :p As for giving The Matrix its own category, I wouldn't particularly care, but then where do you draw the line? Star Wars has more than six avatars, so should we also give it its own category? There are already 48 categories crowding that drop-down menu with only anime and games getting their own categories, and if we gave movies and the like separate categories as well, the list could quickly grow out of hand. (If you've ever tried to use the drop-down menu on the [url=http://www.megatokyo.com/][u]MegaTokyo[/u][/url] site, you know what I mean.) So I'm kind of loathe to start down that road, especially since I don't even see this as a problem, but I'll do the necessary shuffling if people really want this.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]Well, I have Windows 2000 with SP4. And when I try to load the Jukebox with the "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" option disabled, it gives me this warning: "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly." So IE certainly thinks there's something going on with ActiveX, at least for me. As for getting QuickTime to work in Firefox, I just installed QuickTime and during the installation checked the box to install its plug-in in Firefox along with IE. I've never had any trouble getting it to work in Firefox.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]That's what I thought as well, but when I went to test it out in IE (I normally keep all the ActiveX settings disabled), it didn't work. So I narrowed it down to those two settings needing to be enabled, though obviously JavaScript needs to be enabled as well. Which I think is included in the "Active Scripting" option, also in the Security tab. Myself, I have the QuickTime plug-in installed in Firefox, and midis/mp3s play fine through embed tags and even just by opening them in the browser, so I know that's not a problem. My only two guesses would be that either the JavaScript used for the Jukebox is simply incompatible with Firefox, or that it's something funky with ActiveX that Firefox doesn't support. If it's maybe trying to bypass the need for a plug-in such as QuickTime to play the midis, I could see why it would use ActiveX.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]That's all you should have to do. It should load and play the song after you select one in the drop-down menu. If you're using IE, you need to have the "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins," and "Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting," options both enabled under the Security tab of the Internet Options menu in order for it to work. Though as far as I can tell, it just won't work in Firefox at all.[/color]

If you're trying to put a banner in your signature, it needs to be hosted elsewhere on the net; somewhere like [url=http://imageshack.us/][u]ImageShack[/u][/url]. Second, it can only be a maximum of 500x100 pixels in dimension. Third, make sure you're correctly using image tags to put it in your signature. They should look like this: [i[i][/i]mg]imageURLhere[/i[i][/i]mg] If you're wondering why your signature isn't showing up in your post above, it's because of a little oddity in the vB software. If you make a post before you've made a signature, it will automatically uncheck the "Show your signature" box in the post's Additional Options section. So, to get it to display the signature in that post, you'll need to use the Edit function and check that box manually.[/color]

Unlike most of the others (especially Ayeka's), it didn't feel like I was scraping my fingernails against a chalkboard whenever I heard it. Though oddly enough, I like the dubbed version of the ending theme. . . . I guess they sing the parts better than they speak them.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]Just for future reference, an easier way of solving this type of problem is to hold in the Shift key while you click the Reload button. Doing that makes Firefox reload the page entirely from the server, forcing it to load the new image and replace the old one in your cache.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]I think that quoted bit was referring to the skill of being able to read subtitles while also keeping an eye on the action in general. I don't think his post had anything to do with fansubs in particular. In other words, if you're a real fan of anime and like the Japanese voices better, you'd be willing to put some effort into getting used to reading the subtitles. That's the impression I got from the post, anyway. Myself, I prefer Japanese voices with subtitles for a vast majority of the time. Most of the dubs I've heard have been, in my opinion, mediocre at best. Though there have been a couple I've liked; Gunsmith Cats, for example, had a good dub. And on the other hand, the dub for Tenchi Universe made me cringe.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]I use AIM through Trillian. AIM because the majority of people I know also use it (I started out on MSN but switched). Trillian because I find the interface vastly superior to the standard AIM client -- and it doesn't have those annoying ads. Plus, if I ever needed to use MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, or IRC, I could just use Trillian and have them all connected through one program.[/color]
