Gaming Any DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) fans out there?
Desbreko replied to Ai.sAkUrA.chan's topic in Noosphere
Please post in the original DDR thread if you'd like to talk about the games. Thanks. Thread Closed -
Whatever. Either way, I didn't think you'd care. Plus, Clefairy are community Pokémon (remember the Mt. Moon episode of the first season of the anime? ^_^), and it makes more sense for there to be more than one down there.
To put it quite simply, some of the turn-out was pretty pathetic, and disappointing. Nonetheless, good work Lotuses. *cough* Even if Des did screw up in his post. No large communities of Clefairy, lol. Can only be one.
Quoted from my reply to Raiyuu, about the same issue:
Not necessarily. He said he released one of each kind of Pokémon into the safari zone, not that there's one and only one of each kind. "Remember, there isn't two of a kind," I believe, was refering to the legendary Pokémon being one-of-a-kind. And if push comes to shove, we'll say he missed the Clefairy because they were so deep underground. :p
Not to mention the point is completely moot if multiples of the same Pokémon aren't actually being captured.

Today is Wintersday in the world of Tyria. And you know what that means? Special holiday headpieces for all! Two rounds of gifts have already been given out, but there's still time to get some. Stop into Lion's Arch at 6:00 PM, 9:00 PM, and I think 12:00 AM PST to support either Dwayna or Grenth. If Dwayna gathers more followers, you'll get a santa hat; if Grenth is the more popular choice, you'll get a pair of antlers. Both look great. There's a trick to getting hats for multiple characters each time, as well. Log out of each character while they're in Lion's Arch, so that when you log back in as them, they'll already be there. Then go to a low numbered district of LA with your first character. As soon as you get a hat for them, log out and then back in as another character. Select a district about ten to twenty higher in number than the one you were in (this depends on how fast you can log back in), and the event will still be going on in that district. Then you can run in and get another hat! This works multiple times so long as there's enough districts to keep moving through. So, with the details now out of the way, I bring you a screen shot of the lovely Amelia Starfire decked out in her pink collector armor, a yule cap, and a candy cane staff. Isn't she adorable? ^_^

Sounds like Final Fantasy VI would be another good video game example, if I'm understanding the criteria correctly. Everything is mechanical, with steam engines being about the most advanced form of technology present, short of the magitek stuff and the two airships. (Also all mechanical, however.) I really liked FFVI, so if it does fit, I guess you could say I enjoy the steampunk genre. I still prefer straight up fantasy -- things like Zelda (video game), Lord of the Rings (book/movie), Slayers (anime), etc. -- but the steampunk setting does interest me.

That's another reason I don't like quantity based challenges. (Mmm. I love beating dead horses.) It encourages short and boring posts. Which is why I decided to buck the trend and write a fatty post that's (hopefully) fun to read. I'm a rebel, I tell you! :p

Falling. . . . Falling. . . . Samus braced herself for impact, and finally it came. But not in the way she was expecting. Sending up an enormous fountain of water, Samus plunged into a subterranean lake. Her suit absorbed most of the shock, but not without taking a large hit on her energy reserves. And she just knew she would have some bruises the next day. Falling still farther, her feet finally came to rest on the lake bottom. Samus activated her gravity suit enhancement, tinting her armor purple and applying a filter to her visor to aid in seeing underwater. She could move freely now, the drag of her heavy suit gone, but everything remained pitch black around her. She switched to her thermal visor, and now faint red outlines could be seen through the murky water, marking the features of her surroundings. Space jumping up through the depths of the lake, Samus landed ashore near the edge of the cavern. The ceiling was low, only some thirty feet above the surface of the lake. Looking around, she could make out the opening of the tunnel she had fallen through. Again powering up her space jump boots, Samus was making ready to continue her ascent when she heard an inquisitive voice. "Fairy?" The soft voice echoed across the cavern for a moment. Samus readied her cannon; she was taking no chances after that Steelix. "Fairy! Clefairy, fairy!" A dot appeared on Samus' radar, straight behind her; she spun around, pointing her arm cannon at the small creature. Apparently frightened by this, it bounded off down a tunnel, taking long, floating strides. Morphology: #035 Clefairy Adored for their cute looks and playfulness. They are thought to be rare, as they do not appear often.Clefairy? Samus thought for a moment, then ran a search through the Pokédex information she had downloaded to her log book. Pulling up the entry for Clefairy, she glanced over it and sighed. And I let it get away. She postponed her return to the surface, setting off down the tunnel in persuit. "Fairy fairy!" "Clefairy!" "Cle? Fairy, clefairy." "Clefary?" The normally gentle voices of a host of Clefairy echoed down the tunnel to Samus, sounding more than a bit agitated. She probably had something to do with that, but she continued on. No sudden movements this time. . . . The tunnel opened up into a smaller cavern, half a dozen Clefairy standing in the middle. It was plain to see they were talking amongst themselves, but Samus had no clue as to the subject in question. Noticing her standing at the mouth of the tunnel, the group turned to stare at her. Neither she nor they moved for a few moments, and then a single Clefairy -- the one she had met before? -- slowly began moving towards her. Standing in front of Samus, it uttered what sounded like a question. "Clefairy?" Samus blinked, not sure what to do. She slowly knelt down, bringing her height more in line with the Pokémon's. "Don't worry," she said, wondering if it could understand her. "I won't hurt you." Apparently it understood, as it nodded then took another step forward. "Clefairy! Fairy, cle, clefairy? Fairy." It pointed back down the tunnel they had just traversed. "This way?" Samus also pointed down the tunnel, and was met by an affirmative chorous from the entire group. Standing up, she watched the Clefairy in front of her start down the tunnel and then beckon her to follow. She did so, the rest of the Clefairy following. "The lake?" The Clefairy had stopped at the bank, pointing down at the water. "Fairy," it said with a nod, then began making gestures with its arms. "Wait, slow down," Samus said as she tried to make sense of the gestures. "Lake. . . . something about the lake. Rising? . . . Rising water?" This elicited a vigorous nod from the Clefairy before it continued. "So the water is rising. . . . Moving? . . . Flowing? Stop? . . . The flow has stopped?" Another vigorous nod. Suddenly, everything clicked in Samus' mind. This was an underground spring where water flowed up from underneath the mountain. But something was blocking the water from escaping to the surface, forming the rising lake and endangering the Clefairy's habitat. It also explained why the Steelix had burrowed through to the surface: to escape the flooding caverns. "I get it," Samus said with a nod. Challenge or no, she couldn't stand to let these creatures drown. "Wait here, I'll take care of it." The clefairy cheered as Samus activated her gravity suit once more and somersaulted out into the water. Composed primarily of bendezium ore, this boulder appears to have broken off from a stalactite.Even with the thermal visor's sensitivity maxed out, it was difficult to make out anything in the depths of the cold springwater. Samus switched to her x-ray visor, peering through the stone walls rising up around the water filled cavern. And there it was: A massive rock, covering the lowest tunnel leading out from the cavern. She scanned it, trying to determine the best way to remove the blockage. Bendezium, Samus thought with a grimace. She knew what that meant -- she just hoped the rest of the cavern could withstand the blast. Rolling into morph ball form, Samus dropped a power bomb at the base of the rock, then began space jumping back to the surface as fast as possible. She was propelled the last few yards by the bomb's shockwave and burst through the surface to land back by the Clefairy. "Faaiiiryyy. . . ." The cavern shook from the blast, and continued shaking, as the original Clefairy clung to Samus' leg. Then the water began to recede. Slowly at first, then faster as the broken boulder was swept away downstream. "Fairy fairy, clefairy!" The group of Clefairy began dancing around Samus and she smiled. "I need to go now," she told them, putting a slight damper of the Clefairy's celebration. "I know," she said reassuringly, "but I'm busy. Would one of you like to come with me, though?" The Clefairy at Samus' feet perked up upon hearing this and practically jumped into the Pokéball that she held out. She smiled again, waving at the rest of the Clefairy before beginning her long space jump back up the Steelix's tunnel.
I was thinking of naming a weapon after Desbreko but that's kind of hard to yell all the time, e.g.: Roar, Desbreko! Fear my Desbreko! Feel the wrath of my Desbreko! Oh no, they stole the Desbreko!
That would still be freakin' awesome. My generic white mage character, who I've adapted for use in a few RPGs, uses a mythril quarter staff. I've never really given any thought to naming it, though. Maybe something along the lines of Aegis? Something to do with protection/self defense. But I suck at coming up with original names.

Well, just because someone's over the age of 17 or 18 or whatever doesn't mean they necessarily want to swear or read others' swearing on an online forum. Sure, we keep the censor in place partly to keep younger members from being exposed to language that their parents might find unsuitable, but also because others just don't want to see it. I know I wouldn't care to visit a forum filled with mindless swearing and I'm sure there's a good number of others here with the same opinion. So aside from keeping OB "kid friendly," the censor also keeps it open to a wider audience of adults.

The ground shook, and a small stream of pebbles tumbled down the mountainside. Samus braced her feet to keep her balance, blowing apart any larger boulders careening her way. An earthquake? She activated her x-ray visor and peered down through the ground. No, it wasn't an earthquake. There was something alive down there, and it was heading towards the surface. Morphology: #208 Steelix Its body has been compressed deep under the ground. As a result, it is even harder than a diamond.Samus' eyes widened as the outline of a huge snake-like creature came into view on her visor mere moments before it burst through the surface ahead. It was all she could do to shield her visor with her arm cannon as rocks and pebbles rained down upon her, ricocheting off her suit. Blindly leaping aside as the huge snake lunged forward on her radar, Samus flipped to her scan visor to get a look at the thing as she landed. She sidestepped again, narrowly dodging the Steelix's massive jaws. If it lives underground, Samus thought irritably as she jumped and dodged, what is it doing up here? Her patience was running out. With things progressing as they were, catching the Steelix in one of her Pokéballs would be impossible; she had to subdue the creature. After further analysis with her scan visor, Samus charged up her plasma beam and waited for the Steelix's next lunge. Leaping back with mere inches between her and its gaping maw, she let loose a massive burst of flame straight into its mouth. Roaring in pain, the Steelix reared back from the super effective attack. It wasn't over yet, but Samus was now on the offensive. She fired a super missile, hitting the Pokémon under its chin and blowing its head back. The rest of the rock snake's body followed, tumbling backwards towards the ground -- and straight into the tunnel it had emerged from. Samus swore under her breath as the Pokémon tried to escape, then shot out her grappling beam, catching it around its tail. The Steelix burrowed back underground, traveling in reverse the same path it had taken to the surface, with Samus being dragged along behind. Fumbling for a Pokéball with her free hand, Samus threw it at the creature's exposed back. It roared again as it was sucked into the ball, which Samus caught in mid-air. She had captured another Pokémon . . . but there was something she had failed to take into account. She was still falling, and she had no idea how deep the tunnel descended.

So much for one post per day. I had a busy two days, over the 24th and 25th. Barely had time to get on OB, let alone post in here. This is really just not my kind of challenge; sorry everyone. :( And I've been keeping an alphabetized list that I update each time before I post, to keep track of what's been taken, by the way.

Just for reference, I can also change usernames for people. So yeah, PM either Dagger or me with the name you'd like to change to and we can switch it for you.

After farming grawl outside of the Surmia mission for a while, I managed to get enough candy cane shards for one of each type of candy cane weapon. (Their attacks, no matter what they were, would do zero damage to Eddie, heh.) Amelia looks so cute with a candy cane staff. I can't wait to see if I'll be able to get a santa hat for her as well. I still need to try out the snowball arena, though.

I've been a fan of the F-Zero games since I got F-Zero: Maximum Velocity with my GBA back in 2001. Before that I had played a bit of F-Zero on the SNES, but not very much. And I rented F-Zero X on the N64, but didn't like the drift control; it felt too slippery. So I was actually kind of surprised when I ended up liking Maximum Velocity even more than Super Mario Advance, the other game I bought at the GBA's launch. I played it for hours and hours, going back to it every now and then all the way up till F-Zero GX was released. As you can imagine, having been so impressed by both Maximum Velocity as well as everything I'd been hearing about GX, I bought F-Zero GX as soon as it was released. My first few races were a rush, no pun intended. The speed, the winding, looping tracks, the bashing of other racers. . . . I loved it all. F-Zero GX tops even Mario Kart for my favorite racing game on the GCN. Its only real flaw, in my eyes, is that you can't play two player grand prix and you can't have CPU opponents in versus matches. But after GX, GP Legend on the GBA failed to impress me. It looked pretty much the same as Maximum Velocity only with different tracks and racers, and the story mode thing. (Which I was never interested in, especially not after playing through GX's annoying story missions.) I watched some videos of it on the net and GP Legend just didn't look like it had the speed or track complexity to even come close to matching GX, so I never did buy it. And here I am, also awaiting the next F-Zero game. DS or Revolution versions would both be good with me, but either way, they had better measure up to GX. I'm also expecting better multiplayer options, as well as being able to play over the Nintendo W-Fi Connection. Single player in GX was a lot of fun, but it's hard to beat the thrill of bashing a friend into the wall right at the end of a race to take 1st.

Samus' boots clinked against a rock in her path as she started up the slopes of the mountain's foothills. Glancing about, searching for anything of interest with her scan visor, she wondered what type of Pokémon would inhabit a rocky and barren environment. Maybe I would've had better luck down in the forests, she thought. Pausing for a moment, she turned around and rested her foot on rock while looking back down at the green treetops. Apparently out of nowhere, something spoke. "Dude!" Startled, Samus looked around, searching for the voice. "Geo! Dude, dude!" Looking down, Samus discovered the rock her foot was on had inexplicably sprouted arms and was grasping her ankle. She pointed her arm cannon at it reflexively -- just before it pulled her forward, then heaved her backwards into the air. Wincing as her short flight concluded with her back hiting a boulder, Samus took aim at the rock. She could now see it also had eyes and a mouth, and looked to have an angry expression on its face. But it wasn't advancing. Morphology: #47 Geodude Found in fields and mountains. Mistaking them for boulders, people often step or trip on them.Keeping her arm cannon raised, Samus flipped over to her scan visor. . . . She read over the information, then smiled wryly behind her visor. You don't say. She pulled out another Pokéball and threw it, the Geodude disappearing into the device in a flash of red light. Samus grimaced and put a hand to her sore back as she bent down to retrieve the ball. Stowing it away with the one containing Paras, she made a mental note to not step on any more rocks as she continued on her way.

Closing Down OB Picture Archive (Get What You Want Now)
Desbreko replied to Semjaza's topic in General Discussion
Oh, come on. How many times have I done that? The only time I remember, I did it with my own picture, pasting my head onto one of Ginny's Auron drawings as a joke. There are a lot worse hands than mine that these pictures could be in. Edit: Okay, wait, no. I did the same sort of thing with one of Deedlit's Legolas banners as well. But again, I didn't even use anyone else's pictures. -
Splitting off from the rest of her team, Samus chose a path headed towards a small mountain not too far away. The Safari Zone seemed extremely vast; it wasn't long at all before even a wide range sweep of her radar failed to pick up any of her teammates. She trudged through a field of waist high grass on her way to the rocky slopes and decided it might be wise to flip over to her thermal visor. There had to be something hiding down in all this grass. . . . Ah ha, she thought as a bright red splotch came into view. Moving as silently as possible through the grass, Samus flipped over to her scan visor to see what it was she had found. She was surprised, however, when all she found were two small mushrooms poking up from the ground. Morphology: #46 Paras A bug/grass type Pokémon, Paras are host to a pair of mushrooms growing out of their backs. They burrow to feed off tree roots, the mushrooms absorbing a majority of the nutrients.Frowning, Samus scanned the mushrooms anyway. She was expecting something a little more animal-like, but then-- She smiled as the scan data came up on her visor. But then, she wouldn't be fooled so easily. Tossing one of her Pokéballs at the mushrooms, she watched as the small bug was sucked right out of the ground. Looks like downloading all the information from that Pokédex thing they had back at the office payed off, Samus thought as she continued walking.

*skims the posts so far* ... Baron, you have way too much time on your hands. :p Anyway, I'm going to try to make at least one post per day. Sorry, I know some people are going to be making a lot more, but I have too much other stuff to do to devote hours per day to this RPG. Even if I have hours per day of free time . . . I'd rather not spend it all on writing posts. Just thought I should let people know this from the start.

Closing Down OB Picture Archive (Get What You Want Now)
Desbreko replied to Semjaza's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I wasn't planning on adding them to OtakuFiles right away or anything. Currently they're just sitting on my hard drive with the other 450 OB member pictures that I have saved. I swear I'm not stalking people. I mean, I just don't have the time or resources needed to stalk that many of you. :p -
Maybe you repressed the memory? I remember you making it, and it did seem a bit odd to me at the time. Dunno.
