"The Hunter" is what the space pirates refer to Samus Aran as in Metroid Prime. A fitting title to go with my Samus banner/avatar set for OB Survivor, I think. It also suits my status of administrator. :modrod:

Gaming Poll: Blinks the Time Sweeper OR Prince Of Persia

If you're going to post a character vs. character thread, you should at least provide your own thoughts about the match up. Just like with any other kind of thread, throwing out a topic and then just saying, "Discuss!" is spam. Please read the forum rules if you haven't already. Thread Closed -
You gotta be kidding me. I liked the Japanese voices a lot; almost all of them fit the characters really well, I thought. The only one that annoyed me was Kadaj but I think that was more due to the character himself annoying me. Whiny little punk. But anyway, where's the subtitled DVD being sold? I checked around a few places online just now and didn't see it available anywhere. Though I'm going to wait for the version with both subtitles and dub anyway, just to see what the English voices are like. It's a rare occasion where I prefer the English dub, but who knows, it happens.

Yep, as soon as you post up your character name, one of the officers can send you an invite. I don't have any characters in pre-searing at the moment, so I won't be able to actually meet up with you right at first, but I do have most of the pre-searing quests memorized if you get stuck on anything.

Yeah, this build is entirely PvE oriented. Spreading a build out between so many things in PvP would be a waste of time and skills, but for PvE I try to be well rounded. Different skills for different situations and such, which I usually find to be more useful unless I happen to get into a really well organized party. Arik is the only one I really play PvP with, so all my other characters are focused on PvE.

Booyah, grandma. Booyah. I gotta say, I really loved the odd combination of classes our team chose. Just running in and hacking things up as a knight or nuking things as a wizard is boring, you know? I much prefered sniping, backstabbing, and ... singing things to death. :p (And of course, everyone

Ah, fishing. One of my favorite hobbies in AC. :) My first tip would be to use the A button rather than tapping with the stylus to pull the fish up. At least for me, tapping a button quickly is a lot easier than tapping the screen quickly, so the response time is less. Second, if you listen closely, there's a sound effect for when a fish bites and the lure is pulled under. Train yourself to both watch for the lure to be pulled under, and listen for the sound effect. If you don't notice one in time, you may notice the other. Other than that, it's pretty much just a matter of having quick reflexes.

Even firing off arrows as fast as she could, Samus was having a hard time keeping up with the barrage of bubbles. Two cannons versus a single bow wasn't exactly a fair match, and especially not when Samus was also trying to make her way up the staircase spiraling around the outside wall. They were getting close, but she couldn't keep this up much longer. Dodging a bubble aimed at her while picking off another headed for her teammates, Samus called out to CJ. "Can't you do anything about those two? I can't block all of these myself." "Da hell you expect me to do 'bout dem little punks?" CJ called back. Samus growled as more bubbles came their way. "I don't know, sing them a lullaby or something." "That's not a bad idea," Ada concurred. "Da hell you say?" CJ didn't look too fond of the idea. "I ain't singin' no sissy ass lullaby." "You want to win this?" Samus was getting more irritated by the minute. "Hurry up and do it, you spoony bard!" Begrudgingly, CJ began to sing what could be called a lullaby only in the loosest sense. For the most part, it consisted of various threats to "put their lights out," but it seemed to work. The hail of bubbles slackened, then stopped. Relieved of the task of constant defense, Samus sprinted up the stairs to join the others. "Good work," she said, then noticed Xiaoyu sprawled across the steps, fast asleep. "Maybe a bit too good." Being roused by a nudge from Samus' foot, Xiaoyu stood up and stretched. "Huh? What did I miss?" "You dare mock me by sleeping?!" Zelda's angry shriek echoed down from the top of the pillar, a wave of Din's Fire following after it. Though no worse for wear after Ada's quick healing spell, the same couldn't be said of the party's costumes. "My bow!" Xiaoyu exclaimed, seeing its singed edges. "Now you've made me angry!" Dashing up the remaining stairs, Xiaoyu leapt off the top landing and landed on the pillar next to Zelda. Back on the landing, a trap sprung embarassingly late, shamed by Xiaoyu's speed. "Oh ho ho," Zelda laughed. "You think you've caught me? Think again!" Snapping her fingers, two more pillars rose up from the floor to form a triangle, and Zelda teleported away with Farore's Wind. "You may have stopped those bungling dragons, but such an undignified lot as you will never be able to rescue me!" She laughed again and threw out another wave of fire from one of the far pillars. "Rescue?" Ada grumbled in between healing. "This is more like a kidnapping." "Either way," Samus said as she joined Xiaoyu on the first pillar, "Let's get this over with." Shouldering her bow, she jumped the gap and landed next to Zelda. "Now come quietly." Reaching out to grab Zelda's arm, Samus suddenly found herself being flung away in a swirl of blue crystals. Her back hit the wall hard, but she kept her wits about her; she didn't have her power suit, but she still had some tricks up her sleeve. Pushing off the wall before she could fall, Samus somersaulted through the air to land on the third pillar. "Oh, how unfortunate," Zelda said sarcastically. "You didn't fall." Samus shot a cold glare at the princess. "And now you're surrounded."

So I've been thinking about the build I'm headed towards for Fina, my ranger. I got a run down to Droknar's as soon as I got to Beacon's Perch, where I was able to buy Dust Trap, Flame Trap, and Concussion Shot. (And once I get Serpent's Quickness, I'll be getting Choking Gas too.) I'm finding the skill set I've worked out, or at least as close as I can get to it at the moment, is both a lot of fun and pretty effective. I've dubbed it my "wreak havoc" build.
Fina Silven Ranger/Necromancer Attribute Points - 199/200 Wilderness Survival: 11+4=15 (77) Marksmanship: 10+1=11 (61) Expertise: 10+1=11 (61) Skills Energy/Activation/Recharge Before Expertise 5/.5/10 - Distracting Shot 25/.5/10 - Concussion Shot 10/2/12 - Ignite Arrows 15/2/24 - Choking Gas 10/2/20 - Spike Trap [E] 25/2/30 - Dust Trap 5/0/45 - Serpent's Quickness 5/3/10 - Troll Unguent After Expertise 3/.5/10 - Distracting Shot 14/.5/10 - Concussion Shot 6/2/12 - Ignite Arrows 8/2/24 - Choking Gas 6/2/20 - Spike Trap [E] 14/2/30 - Dust Trap 5/0/45 - Serpent's Quickness 5/3/10 - Troll Unguent
I've actually found, if I'm sneaky about it, I can run right up next to enemies and lay a couple traps without them ever hitting me; the aggro dodging skills I learned as a monk and elementalist are paying off with this build. So that's fun and oh-so-effective against melee types, and then I can also do interrupts with Distracting Shot, C. Shot, and Choking Gas to wreak havoc among casters. Ignite Arrows is there for when I just need some straight damage, while Serpent's Quickness will keep the recharges on my traps and Choking Gas down. (Choking Gas will only have a 4 second downtime with Serpent's Quickness going, if I want to spend the energy to keep renewing it.) And of course, with 15 Wilderness, it's hard to say no to +10 regen from Troll Unguent. And finally, here's some pictures of the beautiful Fina Silven herself, posing in her druid's armor, dyed silver-yellow.

Two problems with that method.... First, we run into the same problem as I mentioned in my last post. Those divs don't have a class applied to them to begin with, so there'd be no way to apply CSS to them without altering the way the board formats posts into HTML. We'd have to change it so that when you make a post, it sticks it in a div with a class instead of the plain div tag like it does now. Second problem is, even if we could apply styles to those divs, the entire post is in a single div. Meaning, if we applied the text-indent style to the div, it would only indent the very first line. All line breaks inside posts are just done through br tags, so the whole post would be recognized as a single paragraph inside the div, and thus only the first line would be indented.

Since I've never cared about top of the line graphics, twice the performance of the GCN sounds fine to me. Games like Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, Resident Evil 4, and Zelda: Twilight Princess (what I've seen of it anyway) already look damn awesome to me. What I do care about is that low price tag. I kind of have a hard time believing the Revolution will be $150, considering that's how much the DS started out as, but it would be awesome if it happened. But even $200 or $250 would still be a long ways off from Xbox 360's $400 package. And then who knows how high the PS3 will go. I just don't have that kind of money.

Whoo! I got the last copy GameStop had it stock from their second shipment. I really need to start reserving games again so I can just waltz in the day of release and pick up my copy. So anyway, I've played for a couple hours so far. Spent probably 45 minutes restarting over and over in order to find a good eye style and hair color combination. Really light brown hair, light green eyes, with those little ovals on the cheeks? No thanks. I like the dark brown hair and black eyes that I ended up sticking with. After that, I did the chores that Nook had for me, just like in the GCN game. They were pretty much exactly the same, too, but I guess there's only one way to show you how to send letters and whatnot. Though of course, I couldn't help but write a somewhat sarcastic letter. It went something like this....
Freckles, I like your money! Come to Nook's and buy crap you'll never use! - Desbreko
There's a little VG Cats humor in there, if you didn't catch it. :p But after that I bought myself a fishing rod and net (still waiting for a shovel, axe, etc.), and went out to catch [strike]boots[/strike] fish. It seems that, again, until you can get a good number of foreign fruit trees growing, fishing is still the fastest way to make money after you've exhausted your local fruit. I saved and quit with about 10,000 Bells, even after donating half of what I caught to the museum. Oh, and for the record, I've got apples in my town. Anyone who wants to exchange fruit, post your friend code in the Nintendo Wi-Fi Friend Codes thread and we can meet up some time. My character/town/code info is already posted in that thread.

If someone keeps bringing back old threads with spammy posts and they ignore the PM, there's a simple solution: A ban. Just like if they were spamming in current threads, they'll get a warning for it. If they ignore that warning, they get banned.

Well, yeah, we could edit the CSS for the whole site to include indentation on all paragraphs. But there's a problem with that: When you make a post, it isn't inside paragraph tags in the page's code. The whole post is just in a single div tag, using only br tags for line breaks. So doing that wouldn't actually affect the posts. In order to apply a style like this from the head to the posts, we'd have to change how the vB software formats posts into HTML. And again, I have no idea how to do that or if it's even possible. I could look around in the admin control panel, which I probably will some time, but I just don't see there being any good way to do this.

Samus grimaced as she awkwardly nocked an arrow to the bow strapped to her arm cannon. Not only was she having to use one of the most primitive missile weapons known to man, but her power suit was making things even more difficult. And she had a bad feeling about the larger-than-usual blip on her radar that was headed their way. Raising her bow in its direction, she tried to aim as best she could. "Here it comes," Ada said as she backed away, letting CJ and Xiaoyu take the front line. A loud grunt echoed through the trees as the hulking beast lumbered into view. It was a forest ogre and it had a hungry stare fixed on CJ. Drool ran down its chops as it raised the large club in its hands. Xiaoyu giggled as she traced its gaze over to CJ. "I think it likes your costume!" CJ took a step back. "You gots to be kiddin' me. That one big ass mutha #$%@&!" "This is not the time," Samus said sternly as she loosed an arrow. It shot wide of the ogre's arm, lodging in a tree. Uttering a curse under her breath, she nocked a second arrow as fast as she could while the ogre continued to advance. Knives drawn, Xiaoyu dashed forward to attack. She drove one of her daggers deep into the ogre's ribs while slashing the other across its chest, causing the monster to roar in pain. Bringing its club down in response, the ogre caught her before she could dodge, sending her flying off to the side. Hitting a tree, Xiaoyu slumped unconscious at its base. "Ling Xiaoyu!" Ada called, trying to rouse the girl. She scowled when Xiaoyu showed no response, then began chanting a healing spell. Another arrow whizzed through the air, this time embedding itself in the ogre's club. CJ, at this point, was having serious doubts about Samus' marksmanship. "Yo, da arrows supposed to be hittin' da ogre, ya know." "Can it," Samus said darkly, "or else do something yourself." Taking that as his cue, CJ stepped forward with harp in hand. "Yo' ready fo' dis, bitch?" Striking the harp, he brought forth a horrible discord while rhyming line after line of obscenities and oaths. Everything stopped -- Samus, Ada, the now-revived Xiaoyu, the ogre, everything -- after CJ finished his "song." Coming back to her senses, Ada gave a shout. "Xiaoyu, stab it in the back!" Darting around behind the ogre as it was still dazed from the overload of obscenities, Xiaoyu leapt up and stabbed the hulking monster in the back of the neck. Falling forward, it crashed to the ground without uttering a sound. "Yeah! Take that!" "Wait," Ada said, puzzled. "Did the dagger in the neck kill it, or CJ?" "I don't know," Samus said with a grim expression lurking behind her visor. "But this isn't going to work." She pulled the bow off her arm cannon, and a few moments later, her ship flashed into the sky. Jumping up to it, she disappeared below the hatch. A minute later she reappeared, sans power suit, with the green tunic now hanging over her blue body suit. Dropping nimbly back to the ground, she retrieved the bow as the ship again disappeared. CJ nearly earned himself another slap. "Damn, bi--" Ada's raised hand stopped him short. "Er, you lookin' fine." "Thank you," Samus replied with a roll of her eyes. "Shall we continue?"

Well, here's the problem: In standard HTML, without the use of CSS, it's impossible to indent a paragraph like you can in a word processor. (At least as far as I know.) When your browser encounters a tab in the web page's code (whether in the text of your post or elsewhere), it completely ignores it. Why? Because all formatting is done through tags, including line breaks and paragraphs. Tabs in HTML code are used purely to arrange the lines of code into a more workable form. Multiple spaces in a row also don't work, as browsers interpret multiple spaces in a row as just a single space. There is the &nbsp; code, which is a "non-breaking space," which the browser will interpret as multiple, consecutive spaces. But HTML would have to be allowed in order to use it in posts (which it is in the Arena I suppose), and that's both exceedingly bad form and inefficient. So to answer your basic question, no, it's impossible to make the tab key work like you want it to. As I mentioned, though, there is a way to indent paragraphs using CSS. It involves applying the text-indent property to the paragraph you want to begin indented. Getting this to work on OB would require adding a new vB tag and setting it to apply the proper HTML/CSS code around the paragraph enclosed in the tags. And I'm not exactly sure how to go about doing that, so it probably wouldn't be an especially simple matter. I'll probably at least look into it, though, since it interests me and I'd like to know how to do it.

Well, my policy is to delete the post the first time. Then if the member does the same thing again, or if they've done it with multiple threads in the first place, I'll delete the post and then PM them about it. Rarely does it get to that point, though, considering I don't see anything wrong with bringing back an old thread if the new post contributes to the discussion and isn't just spam. I know in the Play It forum, old threads (that weren't game-specific ones) have been brought back after months of inactivity to receive a bunch of posts that rekindled the discussion. Closing such threads when the posts that brought them back weren't spammy would've just stifled the discussion.

Short of using a hack (which may or may not exist), I don't think this is possible with the current vB software. And I agree that, while it sounds good in theory, I don't think it would actually do much. If people are going to skip past the first post in a thread, they're also likely to skip past the first post on a page and go straight to the most recent one. So I doubt it would be worth the time needed to implement it, even assuming we could find a hack that does it.

I've thought about making just such a thread, actually. For Nintendo WFC friend codes, it could serve as a temporary repository until the Nintendo GameLink site James is working on goes up. (For some info on that, check his myOtaku; he made a post about it a while back.) And then people could also post up Xbox Live gamertags and whatnot, as people mentioned. I think this was also going to be one of the uses for The Nexus forum, but I'm guessing that's not going to open till the next version of OB. So in the meantime, if James doesn't have any objections, I wouldn't mind making a sticky for this in the Play It forum.

I'm planning on picking it up whenever the GameStop here gets it in stock. Probably either tomorrow or Tuesday, like Tony said. The "Check Store Availability" thing on their site is handy for seeing when they've gotten games in, so as soon as they get some copies in, I'm there.
