1. Yeah, so I decided to skip out on trig class today. 1) Because the prof. is mainly going to be reviewing, and anything new she does cover will be recapped on Wednesday, and 2) I want to be there when this Mad King arrives. Let's see if his madness comes anywhere close to my own. And by the way, more of you guys with level 20 characters really need to start joining me on furnace runs and such. I've sort of gotten into a circle of friends that do semi-regular Orozar farming runs and we've got it down so we pretty much just never die unless someone makes a heinous error. (Like, I dunno, Savio -- the tank -- not carrying a gear to draw aggro.) We almost always go with a full group of eight and it's always nice when we don't have to try and pick up random people to fill out the party. Now, the reason for doing furnace runs? Well, besides it just being a lot of fun, I've made about 200k from selling green items that I've found. And Eddie has a Razorstone and a Tanzit's Defender that he's using, which are worth around 150k together. If you're looking for money, Sorrow's Furnace is the place to be.
 2. Wow, I completely lost this thread. I mean, literally, I couldn't find it in the forum. Had to do a search to find it. :animestun Here's my picture, then, of Meredy and Coreena from the Tales of Eternia anime: Ahh! A spider! Kill it!
 3.
I've just downloaded FF3 for the Nes. Can anyone tell me if this is the proper FF3? I do know I haven't played it before but I'm not too sure.
Yes, that would be the real FFIII if it's for the NES. FFI through FFIII were on the NES and FFIV through FFVI were on the SNES. FFII, FFIII, and FFV were never released in the US on those systems, though, and FFIII hasn't been released in the US at all yet. The DS remake will be its first release over here. Personally, I've never liked emulators. PC gamepads have gotten pretty good but I still prefer the original controllers. Especially for FFVI -- trying to do some of Sabin's blitzes on a less-than-great gamepad is a real pain. Plus, most SNES emulators don't sound quite right, or there are other little glitches with the graphics or sound. And now with GBA versions (or DS version for FFIII) on the way, I'd rather pay the money and have them be portable.
 4. Another survivor-style RPG would be great. FF Survivor was some of the most role playing fun I've had on OB, and it both lasted a long time and actually finished. Both plusses in my book. And, of course, playing Cecil was just fun in and of itself. ^_^ I have to agree with James about a general video game theme sounding the best to me. Project Gamer was a lot of fun, and I too am more a gamer than an anime fan even if I have seen a number of series. You could most likely count on me signing up (probably as Link, heh) if you styled it that way. Then again, I'd probably also sign up for an anime-styled one. (Lina Inverse would be a lot of fun to play. Hmm...) Whatever it ends up as, though, I'm sure another survivor RPG from you will be popular. I say go for it!
 5. Places that sell used NES, SNES, and PS1 games (GameStop, EB Games, etc.) might have FFI on the NES, FFIV (it'll be called FFII on the SNES), and FFVI (FFIII on the SNES). And then the PS1 collections, FF Origins (FFI and FFII), FF Chronicles (FFIV and Chrono Trigger), and FF Anthology (FFV and FFVI), but I hear those have horrible load times. Or, if you have a GBA, there's FFI & II: Dawn of Souls, which are remakes of the first two games. (You should still be able to find this one new.) FFIII is being remade for the DS, though there's no release date set for it yet. And then FFIV, FFV, and FFVI are also going to be brought to the GBA soon. If you have a GBA, getting Dawn of Souls and then waiting for the other ports would probably be your best bet. NES/SNES cartridges you find might not hold a save file very long due to the battery inside being so old, and as I said, the PS1 ports have horrible load times from everything I've heard. Myself, I'm eagerly awaiting the GBA version of FFIV since it's my favorite in the series.
 6. Nope, there's no monthly fee for Guild Wars. After you purchase the game (which is $50 most places) you can play as much as you want with no additional fees. New expansions will also cost $50, however, unlike the cheaper expansion packs of other online games, so there is a trade off. (Assuming you want to buy the expansions, anyway. Word is that they won't be required to continue playing the original version of the game.) If you're going to be playing for more than a couple months, I think it's definitely worth it though.

 8.
I have no idea what those last items do lol. But I was scared to salvage them, not sure if thats what I'm suppose to do. I've been having trouble ascending since I keep getting beat so easily. Does anyone have any tips on how I might pass the test? It's extremely hard and I know it shouldn't be since my skills are not TOO bad. Advice is appreciated. Oh and by the way if you didn't know, if you want any of these items please send a /whisper to Yazela Dubrin. Thanks.
Those last few items are enemy armor drops that have runes on them. You can tell when an armor drop has a rune on it by it being blue, purple, or gold and being unidentified. If you use an expert salvage kit on the armor, you can salvage the rune that's on it. And as Warmaster said, you can either ID them before or after salvaging. Personally, I just ID before salvaging, since there's still a good number of runes I've yet to unlock for PvP, and if it's a crappy rune that's not worth anything the armor drop itself will be worth more at the merchant. I got a gold armor with a crappy major rune on it one time which was only worth 25 gold at the rune trader, but the armor drop was worth around 500 at the merchant. You're talking about fighting the doppleganger, right? And if I remember correctly, Yazela is a primary elementalist? If so, there's a pretty easy way to beat the doppleganger. First, switch most of your attribute points into fire magic and energy storage if they aren't there already. Then take Flare, Fire Storm, Searing Heat, and Meteor Shower as your only skills for the fight. As soon as the fight starts, start casting Flare as often as you can; don't bother using the other spells. If you see him casting one of the AoE spells, start strafing just before the spell finishes, to get out of its area of effect. Once you're out, continue spamming Flare. With this strategy, he'll waste time on casting the three AoE spells that you brought, but you can just move out of them with minimal harm done. Meanwhile, you'll be hitting him with constant Flares and doing a lot of damage. I thought of this when Amelia needed to ascend and I won on my first try. Oh, and I don't really need glittering dust anymore. I decided I'm not going to bother with the 8k patterns at The Granite Citadel for Arik since his dragon patterns already look pretty good. Instead, I've set my sights higher -- yes, I'm going to try and get him some Fissure of Woe armor. That also requires 350 vellum, but it also requires 105 ectoplasm, so I'll get the dust necessary for the remaining vellum long before the ecto. So... Arik Desbreko is now accepting donations of ectoplasm. (0/105) :p
 9. I never like using guides except in extreme cases where I've been stuck on something so long (usually trying to find where to go, or what to do, etc.) that I just don't care about doing it myself anymore. But with the exception of those few cases, discovery is half the fun for me. Like the Cloister of Trials puzzles in FFX -- I think I'm the only one I've talked to who actually enjoyed those. Yeah, a few of them stumped me for a while, but it was a lot of fun to finally figure things out. They reminded me of old point-and-click adventure game puzzles.
 10. If anyone feels like being nice, Arik Desbreko is now taking any and all donations of glittering dust. I still need about 850 more to craft enough vellum for his 8k ascetic's designs, but I've got all the necessary wood and money. So now I'm just waiting till I can gather enough dust. I found I can salvage dust from all the enslavement stones I get down in Sorrow's Furnace, so that's been making things go a lot faster. But, at about 6-8 dust per stone, 850 is still a lot. So any donations would be much appreciated. ^_^
 11. It looks like either James or Justin just removed the code that calls the counter script. So yeah, it has been fixed -- or at least the problematic bit has been removed, if not gotten fixed itself.
 12. I guess I've been exposed to James' funky style long enough that it seems normal to me. I used to think the same thing, that it looked odd without a top border, but now it would probably look odd to me if it did have one. And yeah, for me the site doesn't have any margin between the top of the page and the banner when I view the site in Firefox. But it does when I view it in IE. I'd guess there's something about the site's CSS that IE isn't liking. I know the default margin between the edge of a page and its content is different between Firefox and IE, so it might be something to do with that. Edit: After tweaking a local copy of the main page for a couple hours now, I finally found the cause of the one pixel space in IE. It's the hit counter JavaScript function, the last thing in the head section of the page, that does it. If I take that out, no more white space in IE.

At the moment, however, I have no idea how to go about fixing it so that it doesn't make the space appear. It's in the head of the page, so I'd think it shouldn't appear in the body at all when you view the page. ... But if I can find a way to fix it (or maybe someone else knows how?), it should be pretty easy for me to edit the page template with the updated code.
 13. Geeze, yeah, chill out. So someone missed your thread and made a duplicate -- it's not that big a deal. And I merge duplicate threads anyway (like I've just done), so the objection is completely moot at this point.
 14. So I've been doing a good number of runs into Sorrow's Furnace lately, and I have some green items up for grabs: Malinon's Skull Crusher Blunt Dmg: 19-35 (req. 9 Hammer Mastery) Damage +15% (while in health is above 50%) Hammer Mastery +1 (20% Chance while using skills) Lengthens Weakness duration on foe Morgriff's Staff Energy +10 Cold Dmg: 11-22 (req. 9 Death Magic) Improves Casting speed (Chance 10%) Improves skill recharge (Chance 10%) Armor +5 Armor +5 The Brimstone Energy +12 (req. 9 Air Magic) Air Magic +1 (20% chance while using skills) Improves skill recharge using Air Magic skills (Chance: 20%) It's also a good time to be a mesmer. I have a few good gold/purple mesmer wands/focus items/staves that are both DOMINATION and Illusion based. The best one is probably this: Insightful Inscribed Staff of Warding Energy +10 Chaos Dmg: 11-22 (req. 10 Domination Magic) Improves skill recharge (Chance: 9%) Energy +4 Armor +6 (vs. Elemental)

 16. Well, she at least had to have been in pretty bad shape after you kick the crap out of her when she's imprisoned in the Iron Knuckle armor. You really have to lay the hurt on that thing to bring it down. But I still have fun wailing on it even now that I know Nabooru is inside. :p
 17. I think it means Iron Oxide.
 18.
Now this[/I'] is crazy: apparently not only FF IV and V are coming to GBA, but FF VI as well! 8/ And they all contain material not included in any of their previous releases.
Yeah, I just recently heard about this. In the IGN article they said the games will be "updated" along with FFIV but I'm wondering what exactly they mean by that. It sounds like new content, but I still want my hard type mode and new translation in FFIV. We need details! If anyone sees any specific info on how the games are being updated, I'd love to hear it. I'd think there'd at least be more details about FFIV soon, considering the game's supposed to be released on December 12.
A small question is what is the point of FFVI on GBA when III which is almost exactly the same (VI has added material) and is coming out on DS.
You're thinking of Final Fantasy III on the SNES, which isn't the real FFIII. In the US, FFVI was renamed FFIII since it was only the third FF game to be released there. The FFIII that's being remade for the DS is the original FFIII, which originally appeared on the Famicom (aka the NES) and hasn't ever been released outside of Japan; the DS remake will be its first appearance in the US. The FFVI that's coming to the GBA is the same game as FFIII on the SNES. Or, in other words... FFIII SNES = FFVI GBA FFIII DS ≠ FFIII SNES FFIII DS = FFIII NES (unreleased in the US)
 19. Well, see, you have to hit the button quickly when you see the flash on screen, and you can dodge the bolts. :p Seriously though, the biggest thing that will help you out with dodging lightning bolts is a weapon/armor thing with the No Encounters ability, or whatever it's called that blocks random battles. Whenever I'd walk through the Thunder Plains without that, I'd find myself getting struck immediately after coming out of a battle, before I could react and hit the button to dodge. So I made sure to use a shield on Tidus, I think it was, that had the No Encounters ability while going for the 200 consecutive dodges. Doing so makes it a lot easier, saves time spent in random battles, and just generally makes the whole thing less of a headache. As for the actual dodging, you just have to train your thumb to tap the button as soon as you see the flash. Obviously, having good reflexes to begin with helps a lot, but that'll vary person to person. Get it down so that you're not even having to think about pushing the button when you see the flash, pretty much. This came pretty fast for me, others it may take longer, but it's just a matter of honing the reflex. Another thing that helped me was hanging out by one of the towers. Every 10 or 20 dodges, I'd duck back under the tower by the save point and take a few seconds to refocus. If you try to dodge all 200 in one long stretch, it's unlikely that you'll going to make it. The little breaks let you get your attention focused again and keep your reflexes sharp. This is important because you need to have your guard up every second you're not under the tower, or else a bolt will strike and you won't be ready to dodge. And that's about all I can tell you. Following this method, I got up to about 187, I think it was, on my first attempt before getting struck. On my second attempt I passed the 200 mark and got the sigil. So there's no cheat or code (well, short of using something like a GameShark), and it's definitely not just luck; it's all in the reflexes and staying focused. Edit: About the Chocobo race, don't ask me how I did that one, because I'm not even sure myself. I think after enough tries I just sort of started to memorize the route you need to take, the pattern of the birds, when to dodge, etc. My times were ranging for really close to absolutely horrible, then suddenly, bam -- I did it.
 20.
*grins at Nomura* I do that sometimes. I also have a tendancy to whack my boyfriend in the head with my Algebra book, but that's usually only when he decides he wants to fall asleep in class. *chuckles*
Geeze, I gotta feel sorry for the guy. At least if your algebra book is anything like the one I used: A 600 page hardback volume ... with sharp corners. Ouch. :animestun Anyway, I'm a senior this year (go me?), and I can relate to this. I can keep a pretty good hold on my emotions most of the time, so I've never let anything come to a rise in public, but I still get anxiety. Usually, though, it's when I'm not doing anything that my thoughts turn depressive; when I don't have something else to keep my mind occupied with. Such as when I'm lying in bed at night. I don't fall asleep very easily unless I'm absolutely exhausted, so I usually have anywhere from a half hour to two hours of just myself, the darkness, and the hum of my PC. Too tired to want to get up and do anything, but not able to sleep, so my mind wanders where it will. Case in point: last night. I recognized the thought patterns leading up to the breaking point. It's happened often enough, though not really with much regularity, that I can tell when it's coming on. But can I stop it? Nope. And ironically, that pisses me off and only helps fuel the depressive feelings. So I lay there, my emotions figuratively beating the crap out of me, while the logical part of my mind is telling me I'm an idiot for letting these stupid, angsty feelings get to me. Needless to say, I have a lot of experience with crying myself to sleep and working on 6 or fewer hours of sleep -- around 2 in the case of last night. Yay for being a teenager.
 21.
Girl: What you say!! Guy: You have no chance to survive make your time. Guy: HA HA HA HA .... okay i'm a nerd. -ArV
I shall be sorely disappointed if this one doesn't win. You even made the exclamation points italicized. But still, I try: "Abominable shrieking horror! For the love of all that is good, decent, and above all, quiet, I smite thee!"
 22.
Ive been searching forever, and cant find the name of the ending song in episode 25.If anyone knows what it is, please let me know.
Heh, you actually were in the right place with your first post. *merges this with the Fruits Basket thread* As for your question, Anime News Network knows all. ... Okay, maybe not, but still a dang lot.
Ending Theme: #1: "小さな祈り (Chiisana Inori; Small Prayer)" by Ritsuko Okazaki (eps 1-24,26) #2: "セレナーデ [Pf Solo Ver.] (Serenade)" by Ritsuko Okazaki (ep 25)
23.
Ahh, that's right. Kakariko village was on fire, and you met up with Impa when the shadow thing flew out of the well. I guess this COULD imply she died. I can't actually remember exactly what happened in that scene, except that it was one of my favourites in the game. So cinematic, heh.
Not quite. It's Sheik that you meet there, who says this after you get smacked around by the evil spirit thingy and then wake up:
Looks like you're coming around... I believe Impa has gone to the Shadow Temple to seal it again, but...she will be in danger without any help! Link! Impa is one of the six Sages. Destroy the evil shadow spirit and save Impa! There is an entrance to the Shadow Temple beneath the graveyard behind this village. The only thing I can do for you is teach you the melody that will lead you to the Shadow Temple... This is the melody that will draw you into the infinite darkness that absorbs even time... Listen to this, the Nocturne of Shadow!!
He
*cough*she*cough*
says Impa will be in danger without your help, and to go save her. It implies that she could die if you don't defeat the spirit (aka Bongo Bongo), but obviously you do in order to advance in the game. So, then, this quote would imply that you have indeed saved her from dying by defeating Bongo Bongo. Yes, I realize I'm beating a dead horse here. I just enjoy digging into all the little nuances of the storyline. :animesmil Oh, and agreed; that's also one of my favorite cutscenes in the game. That, along with the one right after you beat the Fire Temple where the big ring of fire above Death Mountain disappears, rank at the top for me.
 24. *points to the PSP thread* We already have that thread for talking about the PSP, so can we keep this one on the subject of Final Fantasy, please? :)
 25. Hey, that's cool. I've also yet to play FFV (again, skipped out on the PS1 port), so I'll most likely get that one too. Though I haven't played FFI or FFII either and I've yet to get Dawn of Souls, even though I keep meaning to get around to buying it. Would be good to have something new to play while on the bus, instead of playing through Zelda: A Link to the Past for a 12th time. ... Today I got into Ganon's Tower, on my 11th time through. :animestun But nevertheless, I'm looking forward to FFIV the most. For a while FFVI managed to wrestle away its position as my favorite game in the series, but after my last time through FFIV, it regained the top spot. I was bored one day and sort of randomly picked the game up; my last save on the file I had started months ago was in Baron, just before you go through the Watery Passage to get into the castle. From there I got sucked in and ended up playing through the entire game again. After that I realized FFIV has more lasting appeal to me, as well as being more of a "pick up and play" sort of game that doesn't require any sort of time commitment in order to be fun. So now FFIV is on my list of personal classics. Oh, and I know what you mean. I got more than a bit of a rush when I finally beat Zelda II, which marked my having beaten every (Nintendo published) Zelda game released thus far. Gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling inside.
